Letter to Greg Mercer of Jungle Scout Hi Greg and Jungle Crew,   I'm writing to let you know that you may be saving the tiger, and other beautiful creatures of the jungle...and I know how much you love the jungle. By saving the wild cats of our planet's jungles it saves the entire eco-system for all wildlife there.  Those jungles, in turn, provide the oxygen we all need to survive; so maybe I should start by saying you saved my life ;-)   Here's how you are doing it:   Through the amazing tools, like Jungle Scout and the Chrome extensions, Jump Send, and others that I want to use, like Splitly and Fetcher you are providing tools that will make it easier for me to raise funds to protect, and awareness about, the plight of tigers (who have seen a decline in wild populations of 96.8% in just the last 20 years).   I've hungrily devoured every podcast, google hangout, or line of text I could find about your products and am up to episode 15 in the #MillionDollarCaseStudy Your excellent content, delivery and guests have made it possible for me to navigate areas of SellerCentral that I didn't even know existed even after watching every one of the Amazon University videos.   Big Cat Rescue is the leading 501c3 non profit sanctuary in the efforts to end the trade in exotic cats as pets, props and parts.  There are only a handful of accredited sanctuaries that rescue lions, tigers and other wild cats; mostly from the pet trade.  Those cats end up in the pet trade when they hit 12 weeks of age and are no longer cute and cuddly photo props.  We are home to about 70 such cats, but we can't rescue our way out of this crisis.   Ending the captive trade is critical to saving the cats in the wild, because the legal (yes, it's actually legal in most places to pay $40 for a USDA exhibiter permit and have a tiger) trade provides a smokescreen for illegal poaching.  In the U.S. if someone is caught with tiger teeth, or skins all they have to do is say it was their pet.  End of investigation.   What sets Big Cat Rescue apart is that we are part of a Big Cat Coalition that is leading the efforts to ban the private possession of big cats via the Big Cat Public Safety Act HR 1818.  See BigCatAct.com   So, what are YOU doing to protect tigers?   You are helping me create another revenue stream, and a way to reach people on Amazon who might not have any idea how dire the situation is for big cats.  We have to raise almost 4 million dollars a year to take care of our 70+ cats and fund our efforts in education and advocacy.  We've done that for the past 25 years through a combination of donations, visitor revenue and sales from our onsite and online gift shop at BigCatRescue.biz  There is no government funding for this work.   My goal is to build the Amazon business, using all of your grrrreat (could not help myself) advice.  I just had my first shipment from China to FBA initiated and am working on my second.  A bit a of hiccup on the second one as Amazon decided that Tiger's Eye bracelets are fine jewelry, so they are requiring a $5000 application fee.   I think they will waive it though as we are one of the 13 charities they are featuring on Prime Day tomorrow in their Smile.Amazon push.  We get about $3500 a month from a large number of our 2.2 million FB fans using Smile.Amazon.com on our behalf.   If I can grow the Amazon FBA business large enough, then I intend to duplicate the efforts for my other business at CatRescue.biz  It is a for profit business so that I can take all of my after tax profits there to donate to the politicians who can push our federal bill through and into law.  The bill will end 99% of the abuse in this country and hopefully in time to save the last remaining tigers in the wild. Non profits can donate to advocacy, and we spend the limit allowed by the IRS each year, but non profits cannot donate directly to politicians, so that's why I started up CatRescue.biz this year.   I've owned a multimillion dollar real estate investment business for 37 years, but I'm 56 and getting too old to deal with tenants and all the ways they can destroy my homes, so I'm excited at the prospects of gradually converting that intensive management business into one that I can run from a laptop in my own beach view jungle hut. Costa Rica is next on my list of places to "fix" when it comes to wildcat issues, and thanks to you and your team, I may get there while I'm still young enough to do it.   So again; a huge virtual hug of thanks for helping save the big cats.   I think I'll go post this on a social site and tag you and a friend, just in case this email address isn't monitored.   For the cats,   Carole Baskin, CEO of Big Cat Rescue   Hi, I'm Carole Baskin and I've been writing my story since I was able to write, but when the media goes to share it, they only choose the parts that fit their idea of what will generate views.  If I'm going to share my story, it should be the whole story.  The titles are the dates things happened. If you have any interest in who I really am please start at the beginning of this playlist: http://savethecats.org/   I know there will be people who take things out of context and try to use them to validate their own misconception, but you have access to the whole story.  My hope is that others will recognize themselves in my words and have the strength to do what is right for themselves and our shared planet.     You can help feed the cats at no cost to you using Amazon Smile! Visit BigCatRescue.org/Amazon-smile   You can see photos, videos and more, updated daily at BigCatRescue.org   Check out our main channel at YouTube.com/BigCatRescue   Music (if any) from Epidemic Sound (http://www.epidemicsound.com) This video is for entertainment purposes only and is my opinion.  Closing graphic with permission from https://youtu.be/F_AtgWMfwrk

Ecommerce conferences are really a great way to meet people. Sometimes these new acquaintances spark great partnerships as well. I met John Li at lunch during this year's Sellers Summit event in Miami. I got to learn more about PickFu, the polling platform he co-founded.  A few weeks after we met, he sent me an email with a poll he created on the old homepage of one of our brands, Wild Baby. The results were so interesting that I had to get him on the podcast. At the beginning of this interview, he talks in detail about the following: How PickFu started (3:53) Use cases for the tool (6:00) That initial poll was great data to have at the time because we were in the process of changing the Wild Baby homepage. So, each of those 50 comments we got was helpful. When the new homepage was ready, we ran a series of other polls that revolved around the redesigned homepage. Find the timestamps for those below. That first poll John did on our old Wild Baby homepage (7:47) Poll on the redesigned homepage (10:46)  Splitly test (13:22) We also ran a PickFu poll to assess the effectiveness of our sign up page for EcomCrew Premium. Listen to the results at the 25:06 mark. More recently, we ran a poll against a competitor for one of our products. I'm happy to note that 29 out of the 50 people polled opted to buy our product instead of the competitor. Take a look at the results here. I hope you find all of these poll results interesting and useful. If you want to get feedback on your own website images or Amazon listings, you can use our affiliate link at pickfu.com/ecomcrew and get 50% off on your first poll. Welcome To Episode #132 of the Amazon FBA Private Label Show Podcast! In this episode we share simple and actionable Amazon pricing strategies that you can implement today to make more money!  Listen to this Amazon FBA Podcast! [powerpress] Pricing Strategies Every Amazon Seller Should be Using Right Now w/Paulina Masson Are you using the correct Amazon pricing strategies to maximize sales and profit? I have found that most sellers tend to guess how to price their products. If you are guessing and don't have a strategy then you could be leaving a lot of money on the table. Sometimes small tweaks can have dramatic effects on how shoppers view your products which could lead to increased sales and profit.  On this episode I am joined by Paulina Masson of Shopkeeper.com where she breaks down some effective Amazon pricing strategies that every seller needs to be using. Paulina is an Amazon seller herself and has lots of knowledge around the psychology of pricing and how it effects buying behaviors.  EPISODE BREAKDOWN   Have A Clear Plan Before you even have your product made you should determine what type of buyer you are going to price and market your product to. You should have already evaluated the current market on Amazon to determine your potential pricing strategy. As an example if you notice that there are no "luxury" offers available on the market for a product then you could fill that void by creating a higher quality product in which you can charge higher prices.  You also should be studying the historical pricing of all the top competitors to get a feel for what the other sellers have been charging. You can use a tool like Jungle Scout to see this information.  Determine Your Buyer There are essentially 3 different main buckets of customers on Amazon. You have budget shoppers, value shoppers and luxury seekers. You should be evaluating the current marketplace to see where your competition fits in. If everyone is competing on having the lowest price then you may have opportunities to raise your prices to appeal to value or luxury shoppers.   Budget Shoppers - they are mainly looking for the lowest priced products and aren't to concerned with quality.  Value Shoppers - They are seeking a mix of value and quality. They won't just seek to find the cheapest option available.  Luxury Shoppers - They want a premium product with all the "bells and whistles" and they will be willing to spend a lot to get it.  Price Endings Matter Most products you see in retail end with the price of $0.99. We know that buying something for $12.99 looks like a much better deal than charging $13.00. Even though it's only a $0.01 difference. While using a price ending is ok you may want to consider using other odd number endings such as $0.97 or $0.95. Those price endings will get the customers attention as they are quickly scanning the sales page. Try to avoid even endings such as $0.92 or $0.94. Also if you are a selling luxury item then consider using a $0.00 ending. So instead of charging $34.99 simply charge $35.00. As with anything you should split test these price endings to determine which gets the most clicks and conversions.  Use odd price endings such as .99, .97, .95 Avoid even price endings such as .92, .94 Use .00 endings for luxury items  Split test to determine what sells the best for your items Amazon Coupons To drive clicks and more sales consider running coupons on your listings. The green banner will stand out as customers are scanning Amazon and it will catch their attention. A lot of sellers are not using coupons currently so you can really stand out. You can then experiment with using "percentage off" or "dollar off" coupons. Make sure to keep your coupons simple and easy for the customer to calculate. If you make the customer think too much they will get confused and move on to the next product.    What About Bundling? Once you have been selling a product for a while you should look at your sales reports to determine if bundling makes sense. If you notice that customer are often buying 2 or more of that product then you can create a variation and offer the customer more quantity options. You can then give the customer a better deal per unit if they buy more however you will usually save money in FBA fees when you ship out the bundled option.  Free Shipping? While a huge amount of Amazon customers are Prime members who automatically get free shipping there still are millions of shoppers that are non-prime. For them to receive free shipping they currently need to spend $25 or more. This is important to know when selling a product in that price range. If you are priced in the $20-$24.99 range then simple increase your price to something like $25.97 so that purchase no qualifies for free shipping. You will convert more non-prime customer with this type of pricing.  Business Pricing? If you aren't enrolled into Amazon Business yet then you should do that immediately. It should be free to enroll into and by doing so you can have access to business pricing for your products. You can set different quantity discount options right inside of your seller central dashboard. By doing so you will attract lots of business buyers and start generating extra sales by default. You will then be able to see your sales generated from business customers. Don't worry if you don't have business related products. It doesn't matter.  SPECIAL OFFER FOR YOU GET A 6 MONTHS FREE TRIAL OF SHOPKEEPER!  Simply visit Shopkeeper.com and open the chat bubble and enter code "STINGRAY180" to get 6 months FREE!  Track your sales Track your inventory  Know your profit breakdown Use data to make business decisions      Not a member of the Facebook Mastermind group yet? E201: Amazon Update - Black Friday, Review Throttling, PPC

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 29, 2018 34:34

Q4 is already in full swing with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but before it could swallow us alive, Dave and I decided to sit down and talk about new things happening up on Amazon land. In this episode we discuss things we discovered with Amazon recently, from good updates like new PPC changes to the frustrating alleged review throttling. We also talk about other things in between. Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals: are they effective? The short answer? It depends. Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals are profitable depending on the niche. For example, Dave sells offroading products which are seasonal and not really hot items during the holiday season. He does experience a bump up in sales during Black Friday, but it's not substantial. On the other hand, my products (coloring books, gel pens, markers) are very giftable. In fact, a huge chunk of ColorIt's yearly revenue is generated in Q4 during which we run lots of deals, Cyber Week included. Should you lower prices to fight competition during the holidays? Our answer? Don't. In fact, we raise our prices a little bit. A common thinking among sellers this time of the year is that they need to lower prices to get more holiday sales and therefore, more profit. While that's not wrong, there's a better way to do it. Increasing your prices will reduce sales, BUT will increase profit per widget. So you can potentially get the same amount of profit but fulfill less items, answer less customer emails and in general, have less headaches. We found this out last year when we increased prices for some ColorIt products because we were in danger of selling out before the holidays were over. To our surprise, our net profit dramatically increased. Some buyer psychology plays out here. People are frantically looking for gifts around the holidays and are probably more inclined to finish buying gifts than saving a couple bucks. Also, the more expensive the item, the more valuable the gift is perceived to be. Pro tip: Make sure to A/B test this. We use Profit Peak, a feature of Splitly. Is Amazon throttling reviews? A very frustrating Amazon rumor has been going around seller groups recently. Amazon could either be: a. not allowing new reviews to be posted and limits reviews to a certain number over a period of time b. manually reviewing all new reviews posted and puts them in a "limbo" for a few days while being checked There's no official word for this yet but we do have some experience hinting that this is really happening. We'll see what happens in the future. New PPC changes With sponsored products, you can now target by categories and competitors' products, not just keywords. We'll test this out in 2019. In effect, we will have 3 types of campaigns: automatic, manual, and competitor targeting campaigns. Pro tip: Go to your automated campaigns and look at the ASINs that are converting. These ASINs are perfect for this new update. Other Amazon updates Listing hijacking seems to be a lot more rampant these days. It mostly has to do with the holidays coming up. Wherever there's money to be made, unscrupulous people show up. This is one of those things that keep us up at night. On a jollier note, we found that if you send a full truckload of products into Amazon, it gets received in 1-2 days. Talk about an Amazon fastlane for larger sellers! This episode covers when to use split testing, which products benefit most from split testing and why split testing improves your sales. What is split testing? Website traffic is split 50/50 with half seeing one version of your page and the other half seeing the another page You then analyse the data to see which page performed better How to use split testing in the Amazon platform Amazon does split testing all the time – you see changes Splitly – changes the listing in Seller Central back and forth over a 24 hour period Why Split Test? Most of us in FBA want the ‘best’ images and copy If you can reliable improve your conversion rate by a couple of percent it translates to sales Optimising your listing can be cheaper than spending on advertising to get sales Only through split-testing can you tell if your change has brought more sales You can test hypothesis to see if it improves sales The 80/20 Rule You have title, main image and price – plus the 5th bullet How to use split testing for the biggest benefit? Price is a key influencer on sales – which price is more profitable? At my lower or higher price point am I more profitable? Get Started with Splitly (Andrew Browne 2 of 2)

British Amazon Seller

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 16, 2017 18:59

Get Started with Splitly The first thing to do when you get started with Splitly is to sync your Amazon account with Splitly. Splitly will then organize your products based on the best selling products. It also provides a hint as to what product you should start with. It will offer suggestions for each listing before you even start testing. For instance, if you are only using 5 of your 9 images, it will alert you. Images and Pricing The best place to start, when you’re ready to test, is with images and pricing. These are the easiest tests to run without much effort, and give very good results. Bear in mind that these are general suggestions and it will vary person to person. Even if you’re not willing or able to get new images of your products, you can still test you main image. Simply test one of your other images as your main. Pricing is another great test to run as long as you’re changing the price significantly. If you’re only adjusting is by $1, you’re not likely to see much improvement. However, if you alter it by $5, you’re probably going to see a large difference. The best technique is to start wide, and narrow down through testing. Let’s say you're testing $19.99 against $21.99, and you find that you get better results with $21.99. The next thing is to try $20.99 against $22.99 and see what performs better. Splitly Features One thing to keep in mind is how Amazon does it’s search results. Google isn’t going to boost a page in its results because it’s selling well. Amazon does. This is probably the single greatest factor in search ranking. So if you’re testing different price points, you will want to go with the one that has higher sales. Since this can complicate the test results, they released a new feature called Profit Beak. With this feature, you set the minimum and maximum price for the product. The software will then update your listing every hour, and try a different price point. This allows Splitly to gather data much faster and they can determine the best price based on profit and sales. You can adjust it so it focuses on one or the other. It can also test multiple other factors including keyword ranking and conversion. Keyword rank tracking is a standard piece of software that most people are familiar with. Now, you can tie it into Profit Beak. You can then tell the software that you don’t want to fall below number 10 on a keyword, and that become a new floor. So during testing, Splitly will monitor that and keep it ranked high enough. What You Can Test At its core, Splitly is a testing suite. When you get started with Splitly , the possibilities are endless. Unlike other tools, the software create more work for you because now you have to think of different ideas of how to tweak your listing. However, in the end, it will make you more money. You can test a title that is packed with keywords against one that isn’t. This is really useful because the effects happen quickly. You can see your ranking change within 10 or 20 minutes. It’s very useful if you’re testing your keywords. Your bullet points are another great test because it’s never easy to figure out the best way to go about it. It’s best not to stuff keywords in your bullet points. It’s best used for selling to potential buyers. You can look at the negative reviews of your competitors, and address those concerns in the bullets. Then you can split test them to figure out the best way to do it. Split Test Your Amazon Listing (Andrew Browne 1 of 2)

Split testing is a technique you can use to test which variation performs better. It’s very common in web design. An online store may want to find which color checkout button converts the best. They would then show half their audience one colour, and the rest another and track conversion rates. It’s very important to split test your Amazon listing to help optimise it. Split Test your Amazon Listing Andrew Browne co-founded Splitly as a way to use this technique with Amazon listings. This way you are able to test different aspects of your listing, to fine-tune every feature so it converts as good as it can. You can test different main images and title to find out which gets better traction. This uses objective data rather than your subjected intuition. Best Place when Getting Started Main Image It is the first thing your customers see therefore has a major impact on getting potential buyers’ attention. If you split test your Amazon listing image, you can determine the best picture that will get people to click on your product. One success story that Andrew shared was one he did on his own product. He wasn’t looking for results, he was merely testing the software. In doing so, he found that by changing the main image, to one he thought were do poorly, he improved his conversion rate by 50%. Price Another great place to start is your price. It’s easy to test and is incredibly impactful on your conversion and you can get your results quickly. Other places to test are your title, bullets, and product description. Split Test Your Amazon Listing with Splitly Splitly is an amazing tool that does the split testing for you. When your start you test, your listing updates at midnight, Amazon time, which is GMT-8. The reason for that is Amazon does your reports based on that time. Then every night at midnight, you listing updates with the other version of your listing. While it’s not true AB testing, it’s the best you can do with Amazon’s limitations, and it’s better than using your own intuition. Which Products to Split Test It’s important to understand that split testing isn’t for saving products. If you have a failing product, it won’t help to split test to try and save it. You need to have enough traffic in order to get enough data to make improvements. You want to split test products that are already doing well in order to improve them and boost them a few percent. You’re looking to improve upon products that are already getting traffic and sales. Timeline for Testing How long it takes to split test a listing depends on a few factors. The more sales your product gets, the quicker you’ll get your results. If you’re selling 5 units a day, Splitly will be able to collect enough data much quicker than if you’re selling 1 unit a day. The significance of the difference places a large factor. If you’re testing a price difference of 5 cents, it might not affect the sales enough to determine a winner. Whereas if you’re testing a $5 difference, it will have a larger effect and the software will be able to determine which is better. There is no specific number, it just depends on how long it takes Splitly to gather enough data to give you an answer. It may determine that there isn’t enough difference to go one way or another. Best Products to Sell On Amazon (Greg Mercer 1 of 5)

We have Greg Mercer on the show again. You can listen to our previous interview on product research, as well as one on supplier negotiations. Greg studied civil engineering at university and had a corporate job that he hated. He began selling on Amazon as a break from his day job. He managed to quit his day job and just do FBA full-time. He did that for about two years when he was frustrated by trying to find products to add. The best way to scale your Amazon business is by adding more products. Greg didn’t have a lot of capital to throw around so he wanted to find ones. Out of this need, Jungle Scout was born. Now he joins us to help us find the best products to sell on Amazon. Today, Greg is still selling on Amazon. He has released a few products in the last few months. He’s been working on Jungle Scout, and that has expanded into a quite a tool for Amazon sellers. There is Jungle Scout, which a research tool. Jump Send is a deal site to get you additional sales, as well as a follow-up sequence. Splitly is an AB testing tool for Amazon sellers. Fetcher, which is profit analytics. It calculates what you’re really making after refunds, promos, etc. All the numbers Amazon likes to hide from you. Let’s start with the one thing that every struggles with: finding something to sell. What is your first step to finding the best products to sell on Amazon? That’s a common issue. Everyone knows how good of an opportunity Amazon is, but it’s finding products to sell that is a struggle. The best products to sell on Amazon are ones that have existing demand, that means Amazon customers are already searching for it. You want products that have low competition and that have good margins. Those are the main things. Other things you may want to consider are whether they may infringe on any patents, and they don’t need to be licensed. Think of liability; if a person can hurt themselves with it, you may want to steer clear. Lighter, smaller items are generally less complicated. They are easy to ship and you don’t have to worry about oversize storage limits. Jungle Scout was created to solve that issue, but you can look on the Amazon’s best sellers page. You can get ideas from Pinterest, look at what people pin a lot. You can hang out in big cities where trends start first. Once you do that, make a list of product ideas and go to Amazon. There is actually a free way to find out how well a product sells. You can click on a listing, then look at the best sellers rank under the product description. Then you can go to junglescout.com/estimator. It’s a totally free tool, you don’t even have to put in your email. You put in that sales rank and it will give you an estimated amount of units that product sells on a monthly basis and see what the demand is. You say you want high demand and low competition, can you define that in some way, and how do you find that out? For demand, you want to look for products that are already selling on Amazon. A beginner mistake is that people “know” that a product will do well if it gets on Amazon. A small percentage of the time, that might be true, but more often than not people are wrong. It’s much safer and less risky to go with something that is already selling. I want to see 2000 units a month, being sold on Amazon. Let’s use a coffee cup as an example. If you search “coffee cup” on Amazon. Then take the top 10 listings, or however many are relevant. Let’s say 8 are selling coffee cups. Then click on each of the listings, get the best sellers rank. This is helpful because it tell us how well this product is selling. This number, by itself, is very difficult to interpret. However, at Jungle Scout, they have come up with an algorithm that can estimate how many units are sold based on that number. It changes on a daily basis and they have a full-time data scientist that is always updating this. So, get that number for each listing, find the units sold on Jungle Scout and add them up.

The second TAS Breakthrough LIVE event just wrapped up and the amazing conversations and ideas that happened are hard to describe after the fact. But on this episode, Scott and Chris are going to give it a shot! So take some time to listen in to find out if events like this are something that could move your online business forward in the future. These two guys are sold on the value of these events and even read powerful testimonials about how this event served to move the businesses of other people forward. So sit back, listen to what these two guys learned, and how you can get involved in a similar group or event in the future. The important role that personal connections make in the advancement of your business. Everyone knows what it feels like to be discouraged. And conversely, everyone knows how good it feels to be encouraged by someone who is like-minded and gets where you are headed. There’s nothing like it. Chris and Scott have learned that events like TAS Breakthrough LIVE are a wonderful place for people who are working in a specific niche to gather, learn from each other’s experiences (successes and failures), brainstorm ideas for making each other more successful, and much more. But none of it will happen if you aren’t in a situation where you can be encouraged in those ways. Find out how you can connect with these events yourself, on this episode. Once you’ve got a private label product on Amazon should you go wide or go deep? Once you start to experience a bit of success selling private label products on Amazon you have a decision to make. Are you going to sit back and be satisfied with your current level of success or are you going to press forward to grow your success? If you’re going to press forward you have another decision to make. Are you going to go wide by finding building new brands that are unrelated to your current product? Or are you going to go deep by adding adjacent products that make your current products even more effective? On this episode, Scott and Chris talk about a scenario they discussed with the group who attended the TAS Breakthrough LIVE event where a current successful Amazon seller was asking this question. Should you use Kickstarter to launch your products? It’s possible, but not easy. If you are looking to launch a private label product on Amazon there are many ways you can go about it. But every one of them is going to require hard work and effective marketing. At the latest TAS Breakthrough LIVE event, one of the hot seat sessions focused on a successful Amazon seller (he’s making $25K per month presently) who has used Kickstarter to launch every one of his current products. In every case, he’s had a successful campaign that fully funded his product launch, but he wants to do even more. The guys had a great time helping him think through his Kickstarter strategy, why he’s doing things in that way, and what his end goal is for his Amazon business efforts. You’ve got to hear this part of the conversation, it’s a fresh look at the product launch approach that you’ll enjoy hearing. There’s often potential to grow your brand even if you’re already successful. At the recent TAS Breakthrough LIVE event, one of the people on the hot seat was trying to decide how she could grow her brand even more, even though she was already selling $80K per month. What? Isn’t that successful enough? Maybe, but it depends on your end goals. This seller wanted to build her brand even more and was unaware of some very obvious things she could do to make what she’s currently doing even more successful and the hot seat session helped her get clarity on a game plan for moving forward and reaching even higher levels of success. You’ve got to hear her amazing story. OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE OF THE AMAZING SELLER [0:03] Scott’s introduction to this episode of the podcast! Scott is back with another “Ask Scott” session of the podcast. Be sure you listen to these real answers to real listener questions, submitted by Amazon private label sellers. On this episode, Scott answers questions about product photos, what to do to increase your ranking once you’ve run out of product inventory, how to modify your products to be a feasible offer in a different country, and how to build an email list as an ongoing asset to your business. As usual, you’re going to get a truckload of value from this episode, so be sure you listen. Should I switch my product into a different market? Imagine that you sell an electrical adapter. As you probably know, it would have to be a different model adapter if it was going to be used in Europe than if it was to be used in the United States. Today's episode features a question from a private label seller who has a product that has similar unique qualities that vary from country to country. He's got questions about what he should do to generate more sales when his product details don't exactly match the country he's selling in. It's an interesting conundrum that Scott answers, on this episode. My product ranked well before I ran out of inventory. Now I can’t get it selling again. Help! There are times when your products on Amazon sell faster than you expected (a good problem to have). But it causes issues because you run out of product, which in turn causes your sales rank and organic search ranking to go down for as long as you are out of inventory. When the product is back in stock, it’s sometimes hard to get the product ranking and selling again. On this episode, Scott answers a listener question about how to get a restocked product selling again. It’s a problem you’re bound to run into eventually so be sure you listen to find out how to handle the situation. Should you put a watermark on your product photos to keep them from being stolen? Many Amazon sellers know about the possibility of someone hijacking their products. It’s something we are all vulnerable to but there are things you can do to protect yourself. A listener of the podcast called in to ask if one thing that could be done is to watermark his photos. That would make it easier for him to prove that the photos belonged to him. But Scott’s not so sure it’s a good idea and says that he will probably never do it himself. Find out why Scott is not too keen on the idea of watermarks on product photos, on this episode of the podcast. I need to start building an email list. What’s the best way to do it? It seems like every episode Chris Shaffer is on lately he harps on the fact that an email list is your single most valuable asset as an Amazon private label seller. The reason he believes it so strongly is because it’s the only way you can contact your customers and prompt sales of your products anytime you want to do so. Today’s episode features a question from a listener to wants some tips about how to go about building his first email list. Scott’s covered the issue before but thinks the issue is so important he was willing to address it again. You can hear how he suggests you get started building your own email list, on this episode. OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE OF THE AMAZING SELLER [0:03] Scott’s introduction to the podcast! [0:46] Thoughts on the big changes to the review policies on Amazon. [8:35] QUESTION TWO: I sold out of my first product in a month and had no inventory for 2 weeks. Now I’m not gaining traction with new inventory. How can I improve sales? [15:53] QUESTION THREE: I’m ranking with my product but my product doesn’t apply well to the U.S. market. Should I move my product to another market? When dealing with a huge platform like Amazon you've got to expect that there will be places where confusion sets in. This episode is an example of that very thing. Karon Thackston is with us today to help us understand the new items within the Amazon terms of service. Not everything is coordinated and not everything makes sense but if you learn how to operate within the Amazon guidelines your products were ranked better and your sales will increase. Karon Is here to help us navigate the changes and make sense out of all of it. Amazon says you should make sure your title is less than 200 characters. Period. The rules have changed many times over the years but now Amazon has a new guideline when it comes to the length of your product title. 200 words is the new limit and you have to be careful because the back end will not stop you from putting in more characters. But if you do you could be subject to a suppressed listing or even worse, Amazon could change the title for you and not allow you to change it back to something of your choosing. You've got to hear this one to believe it, and you can hear it on this episode of The Amazing seller. Be sure to watch the Amazon style guide for what is allowed. Nothing else. You can take a few minutes to click around the Amazon website and find conflicting guidelines for how you should list your products on their platform. But today's guest, Karen Paxton believes that you should only pay attention to the Amazon style guide when you are trying to conform your listing to the Amazon standards. The things Karon shares on this episode are from the Amazon style guide and as you will see, are not all that simple. But Karon is a pro and can help you navigate it more simply, so be sure you listen. Why you should contact seller support over and over when you have issues. If you run into issues with any of your product listings and need to contact Seller Support it is likely that you will run into a support agent who doesn't know the facts of how Amazon runs. Why would we say that? Because it's absolutely true. You can call Seller Support and talked to two or three different agents and get two or three different answers to your questions. That's why our guest today, Karon Thackston,  recommend that you continue to call Seller Support until you get help with the things that you need. Eventually you will be able to talk to supervisor and get things straightened out. You should be careful with those search term fields from now on.   It wasn't too long ago that Amazon increased the number of Search terms you could enter in the search type fields in your product back end feels. But now they have come out saying that the search term fields don't really need to be used at all as long as your keywords are included in your description and bullet points. But Karon Thackston doesn't believe you will be penalized if you leave words in the search term fields, and is not recommending that any more experienced sellers go through their listings to remove them. You can hear the entire fiasco on this episode of The Amazing Seller. OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE OF THE AMAZING SELLER [0:03] Scott’s introduction to this episode with Karon. [5:00] Karon’s summary of what she’s covering for you today. [8:15] Another reason to build a platform of your own off Amazon. [9:56] The issue of title suppression (titles over 200 characters). [13:45] Why you should contact seller support if your backend doesn’t reflect the 200 character limit. [20:40] The new guidelines for search terms to optimize your listings. [25:40] Is any aspect of the product listing weighted more than anything else? [27:33] Scott’s recent keyword test. [29:04] Amazon’s latest guidelines for keywords (to kill keyword spam?). [34:34] And Amazon still says you should not use commas in keyword fields. [38:02] What Karon recommends to sellers who have been around a while. Greg dives in about the pros and cons of developing products vs reselling on the Amazon platform. He also provides an in-depth review of the tools he uses to conduct market research, which helps him to identify products that are in demand. Subscribe:  iTunes | Stitcher (With your host Andrew Youderian of eCommerceFuel.com and Greg Mercer of Jungle Scout.) Andrew: Hey guys, it's Andrew here and welcome to the eCommerceFuel podcast. Thanks so much for tuning in today. And today we're continuing on with our podcast series about Amazon. Specifically, we're gonna be talking about niche research today in 2016. A lot has changed over the last couple of years, but we wanna find out what's working, what you should be thinking about if you're gonna be launching a product or products on the platform today. And joining me to talk about this is Greg Mercer who is the founder of Jungle Scout which is extremely popular market analysis and research tool for Amazon. It lets you go in and you can see, you know, really it gives you like a sense how much revenue certain products are making on Amazon as well as a slew of other information. And Greg's got a lot of experience working with Amazon, running his own Amazon business, and understands the analytics and the market research side extremely well. So hope you enjoy it. I had a lot of fun chatting with Greg about this as I'm a bit of a Amazon newbie myself, and hope you find it useful as well. We'll get right into it. Greg, great to have you on. Thanks for coming. Greg: Absolutely, I appreciate you having me on, Andrew. What is Jungle Scout? Andrew: For those that may not be familiar with you, can you give us a quick overview of what Jungle Scout, which is kind of your primary product, what it is and how it works? Greg: Yeah, absolutely. So it's before that you know, like just a few years ago, I used to work in a corporate job. I wasn't really happy with it. I escaped that by starting to sell on Amazon. That kind of led into Jungle Scout which is a product research tool for Amazon sellers, so it's a software product. And what we've done with this, we've gathered a whole bunch of data, analyzed different data points, and so forth to help sellers make educated purchasing decisions, and I help them find good products to sell on Amazon. Andrew: And the data, so you can actually go to a product, press the button and then it will give you a bunch of data, but included in that is the number that are sold per month as a well as the revenue generated by that product for the seller, correct? Greg: Yes, that's correct. So that's a little bit of like our secret sauce is the sales estimate. And a lot of your listeners probably know Amazon doesn't personally release that data. What they do release is something they call a Best Sellers Rank, and from that we've developed algorithms by tracking a few hundred thousand different products on how that Best Sellers Rank correlates to the unit sales on a monthly basis, We've developed those algorithms, we update them each month, and from there, you can get pretty darn accurate estimates of how much any product sells on Amazon. Using Spitly and Review Kick Andrew: And you also have a couple of other things as well, Splitly and Review Kick. Can you just touch briefly on what both of those are? Greg: Yeah. Sure thing. So Review Kick is a review acquisition management platform. So if you're looking to get reviews on your Amazon produc...

It’s time for you to get your Amazon private label questions answered from Scott Voelker, an experienced private label sales professional who is actively building his business both on and off Amazon every single day. You can submit your questions and hear others ask their real life PL questions and Scott will give his best suggestions, answers, and tips for how to resolve the problems that are presented. If you want to ask your own private label questions, listen to this episode to find out how you can! Is it “legal” with Amazon to put my website URL on my product packaging? One of the main ways you can build your Amazon private label business is to capture the email addresses of the people who purchase your products so that you can then remarket to them with discount offers, other product possibilities, and more. But how do you get the email addresses of your customers? One Amazon seller has the idea to put his website URL on his actual product packaging. But is that legal according to Amazon’s terms of service? On this episode Scott is going to answer the question from his own perspective. His take is interesting because the answer is not very clear in the Amazon terms of service. I’ve ordered my first private label product but am starting to feel like the market is too crowded. Help! If you’ve already got your products or they are on the way to you, that’s great. Way to take action! But sometimes you might start to second guess yourself while you’re waiting to receive your products. It’s not unusual for people in that situation to continue to check their niche and begin to feel that they chose the wrong product because the market is too crowded. If that’s you, what should you do? On this episode Scott fields that question and gives some hopeful answers to make the most of the products you already have. You won’t want to miss this one. I’m considering the purchase of Jungle Scout Pro… can you help me understand the options? Two of the best tools out there to help Amazon private label sellers make the most of their product research and listings is Jungle Scout - but it comes in two versions - the basic and PRO. What is the difference and how do they work together? Scott is personal friends with the creator of Jungle Scout and he has used both versions of the product. That means he’s got a very solid experience and opinion about the software and on this episode he shares the differences, similarities, and which you should get if you’re looking to get into Amazon sales. Should I include multiple words in my search field to get exact match keywords set up? There’s been mixed advice over the years about how to use the “search terms” field in the backend of your Amazon product listing. Some people have said that you should not repeat words in those fields while others say that it’s OK to repeat words to maximize the possibility of being found for long tail keywords. Which is right?
