First off, please forgive the first few minutes of Chris' audio, we adjusted the levels during the podcast and fixed it. You won't have to bear with it all the way through. We sat down to talk about SAVING DEMOCRACY FROM TRUMPIST FASCISM, or rather, how the left has fallen into the trap of letting the Democratic Party off the hook for its crimes against humanity and its constant kowtowing to the GOP. Fascism has earned an ugly name over the last century, no question about it. Some religions lean into it, some look forward to a day when it can be openly celebrated, especially in monotheistic traditions. This week, we're exploring what it really means to be inside, to see fascism differently than what history has shown us. Straight out of the mouths of Benito Mussolini and Francisco Franco, we examine the difficulty in defining fascism, and why some Christians are taking advantage of that obscurity. We get a little help from Umberto Eco and Stanley Payne in our efforts to delineate the nature of the beast, but few organizations hit all the landmarks--watch out for the ones that do. Ultimately, when it comes to religious groups throwing their hats in with the fascists, as we see all around the world today, it's up to every good person to stand against these fundamentalist authoritarian parties while it's still safe to do so. Francisco Franco ruled Spain as dictator for almost 40 years from 1939-1975. He is thus one of modern European history's most important, and most controversial, figures, and his long life spanned periods of colonial conflict, civil war, world war and post-war economic growth. Prof. Stanley Payne joins the podcast to discuss some of the insights he offers on Franco's life and times in his recent biography of the dictator. Drawing on sources from Franco's personal archive and interviews with family members, Payne weighs in on some of the debates surrounding the dictator such as how good of a general he was, how close he came to joining World War II and how much of a role he had in the rapid changes that took place in Spanish society late in his life.
In this special episode, Dinesh devotes the full hour to an in-depth discussion on fascism and civil war with one of America's preeminent historians, Stanley Payne. An emeritus professor of history at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Payne is the author of "A Short History of Fascism" and "The Spanish Civil War." Dinesh engages Payne in a wide-ranging discussion of such questions as, what is the core meaning of fascism? Is fascism on the Right or on the Left? Are there fascist strains in America today? What are the factors that led up to the Spanish civil war, and are there parallels between Spain then and America now? Is America headed toward civil strife? What lessons can we learn from history on how to resist fascism and avoid civil war? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In 2015, Vox spoke to five world-renowned fascism experts on the subject of "Is Donald Trump a Fascist?" They all said no. To start our look at the right wing in America today, Logan and Myles spoke to as many as would respond to our emails (More than half of them!) to see if anything had changed in the last five years. Short answer? No. Nothing had changed. But world-renowned Fascism experts Stanley Payne, Roger Griffin, Matthew Feldman, and David Renton offered a crash course in fascism studies. Part one covers the basics and "interwar" fascism, fascism from the 1910s to the end of WWII. Part two (coming soon) covers neofascism, from the French New Right to Bronze Age Pervert, and dives into what fascism studies can teach us about current moment in American politics. The Generalissimo Francisco Franco ruled Spain for the better part of four decades and had a profound impact on the country over that time. He also had a tremendous impact on the Camino de Santiago. Indeed, his time in power coincides with the acceleration of the Camino's rebirth, which kicked off in earnest in 1879 and culminated in the Jubilee year of 1993. Dr. Stanley Payne is one of Franco's biographers and in this episode he shares his expertise on Franco's rise to power and relationship with the Church, with some specific consideration of Franco's impact on several places relevant to the Camino: El Ferrol, Guernica, and the region of Galicia. He's followed by Dr. Sasha Pack, who focuses more specifically on Franco's role in the reemergence of the Camino de Santiago, and his very tangible impact on the pilgrimage that we see--and walk--today.
Introducing Jordan Stanley Payne, a young, energetic investor who refuses to accept being forced to live a life stuck in the rat race. Jordan is the type of guy that will not settle for the “status quo” and when he discovers opportunity, he seizes it. Beginning as a wholesaler, Jordan quickly realized that True Wealth was found in the buy and hold investing model. Jordan then immersed himself in training videos that he found on youtube. Being a self taught investor he made lots of mistakes, however he also learned from those mistakes and has built a multi million dollar portfolio before the age of 30!! Jordan’s success comes from knowing his investor identity, and his buying criteria and then sticking to that criteria. By focusing on the needs of both the seller and his team, he has found great success in sourcing capital and opportunities. By surrounding himself with people who know more than him, and are more successful than him, Jordan has learned faster and achieved success much faster than his peers. Building a team is a necessary part of any investor’s plan, however team building is also an evolving process that can be built as the need arises. Perhaps beginning with a CPA, Lawyer, Mentor, ect to get started. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses is critical to the team building process, begin with bringing on the team members that are good at what you are not good at. Jordan says “Action trumps Fear” which Tyler Sheff totally agrees with. If there is no action, there cannot be any success. To join Jordan’s Facebook group go to CashFlowGuys.com/Jordan
The Spanish Civil War is one of those events that I have always felt I should know more about. Thanks to Stanley Payne‘s concise, lucid new work on the subject, I feel less that way. I do not exaggerate when I say that Payne, a Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin, is the nation's foremost expert on Spanish history and on historical fascism in general. That expertise shines in this book and really comes to the fore in this interview. Published by Cambridge University Press as part of its Essential Histories series, Payne's work synthesizes a lifetime of study in Spain, laying out the origins of the civil war in Spain's deeply fractured political culture, and tracing the international and military developments that led to Francisco Franco's eventual triumph in 1939. As Payne points out, the Spanish Civil War has been mythologized for political purposes since the day it began, much to the detriment of our understanding of the real story. The details of how and why the war began, how it was fought, and what was at stake have too-often been lost in a public effort to assign blame or capture the war's legacy for political purposes. Payne revels in debunking some of these myths while carefully balancing conflicting arguments and accounts. Enjoy.
