In their podcast conversation, John Pinna and Elliot Toman discuss the evolution of religious freedom within the context of the Trump administrations. They examine how Trump 1.0 championed international religious freedom, while Trump 2.0 has shifted towards a focus on "religious liberty," specifically targeting anti-Christian bias, which prompts concerns about potential oppression. They analyze the shift in terminology noting the approval of a military battle plan by Trump's administration that targeted Muslims during prayer. Pinna and Toman debate whether this shift is due to Trump's personal convictions which they doubt, or the influence of certain constituencies wanting to promote religious liberty as it is framed. The conversation also explores political maneuvering and how this relates to current events regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

In this interview, John Pinna and Jack Jewell discuss the complex and often contentious issues surrounding queer theory, LGBTQ+ identity, and the politicization of sexuality. Jewell, a gay man, critiques what he sees as the ideological capture of LGBTQ+ activism by queer theory and gender identity politics. He argues that these movements have strayed from earlier goals of equality and acceptance, instead promoting divisive ideas that alienate many gay people. The conversation touches on the parallels between queer theory and religious ideologies, the medicalization of transgender identities, and the challenges faced by those who dissent from mainstream LGBTQ+ narratives. Jewell expresses concern about the impact of these ideologies on children and the erosion of women's spaces. Throughout, Pinna draws comparisons to his experiences with religious extremism and identity politics in Islam, highlighting the similarities in how ideologies can co-opt and divide communities. Jack Jewell is an Irish man living in London and an independent political commentator on YouTube. He details his past advocacy work with the American Islamic Congress, including engaging in interfaith dialogue, advocating for prisoners of conscience, and helping to organize early IRF conferences. Pinna explains his more recent work founding an initiative to engage Muslim communities globally and participating in early planning efforts to establish the annual IRF Ministerial at the State Department. He expresses concerns over global trends showing increases in religious persecution and restrictions on religious freedom, questioning the efficacy of policies meant to combat these issues. In this discussion, Pinna continues sharing his perspective on issues with the international religious freedom (IRF) movement. He argues that IRF advocacy has become an "industry" dominated by a small group of organizations and leaders who control narratives and funding. Pinna questions the impact of high-profile IRF events like the annual Ministerial and Summit, critiquing them as superficial with little measurable outcomes. He calls for greater accountability, prioritizing evidence-based persecution data over anecdotal stories, developing contextualized metrics, and directing more funding towards field operations. Pinna expresses concerns over IRF being co-opted for political agendas and domestic religious issues rather than its legally-intended focus on international issues. He emphasizes the need to strengthen government IRF institutions mandated by legislation versus relying on private groups and citizens. Overall, Pinna argues the IRF movement risks becoming an echo chamber disconnected from effectively addressing rising global religious persecution.

They were disciples of Saint Andrew the Apostle, the first missionary to the lands north of the Black Sea. They witnessed to Christ around the Danube River and converted many to the Faith. They were arrested and condemned, and died immersed to their necks in icy water.   In the Prologue, St Nikolai Velimirovich describes them as the “first Slavic martyrs mentioned in history.” In ancient martyrologies they are referred to as Scythians, a term applied to the peoples living around the Black Sea in the early Christian era. It is doubtful that they were members of the Slavic people as we understand them today, though it seems that they were the first martyrs in the lands that are now inhabited by the Slavic people.
