Klippen i programmet är hämtade från: ABC News, NPR, CNBC, Red Table Talk, Ljudboksversionen av Moores självbiografi Inside Out, Touchstone Pictures, The Late Shows Youtubekanal, Mubi, AP, Entertainment Tonight, Movieclips

Tough Guys was a Phelps family household favourite in the late 1980's and this week we take a look back at a movie long since forgotten. Tough Guys brought together two Hollywood legends, Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster, marking their seventh on-screen collaboration and injecting star power into this comedy crime caper. Directed by Jeff Kanew, who had worked with Douglas on Eddie Macon's Run, the film aimed to blend comedy and nostalgia with action. Set against the backdrop of the rapidly changing 1980s, the production team leaned into the contrast between the golden age of Hollywood and the modern era, using this as a thematic anchor. Filming primarily took place in Los Angeles, utilizing both urban settings and iconic locations to underscore the characters' struggle to adapt to contemporary life. The film was produced by Touchstone Pictures, a subsidiary of Disney, which aimed to target a slightly more mature audience with its blend of lighthearted humor and action. Douglas and Lancaster, already familiar with each other's rhythms and dynamics, brought a natural chemistry to their roles, making their performances one of the film's standout elements. Composer James Newton Howard provided a score that balanced upbeat, jazzy tunes with more sentimental pieces to reflect the characters' journey. This movie was a fond farewell to the screen partnership of Douglas and Lancaster, celebrating their enduring legacy in cinema. Struggling to adjust to the modern world of the 1980s, the duo quickly realise that society has moved on without them, and their old-school ways no longer fit in. Despite their attempts to go straight, the allure of one final heist proves irresistible as they plot to steal the same train they hijacked decades ago. Meanwhile, a relentless parole officer and their old nemesis, now a retired police officer, are hot on their trail. thevhsstrikesback@gmail.com https://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback

In a departure from martial arts or buddy cop movies, Chris has gone for the heart warming comedy from 1987, Three Men and a Baby. Three Men and a Baby was an American adaptation of the 1985 French film "Trois Hommes et un Couffin" (Three Men and a Cradle), produced by Touchstone Pictures. The casting was crucial to the film's success, bringing together Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg, and Ted Danson, three popular actors whose chemistry and comedic timing were essential to the story. The film follows three bachelors who suddenly find themselves responsible for an infant left on their doorstep, leading to a series of humorous and heartwarming situations. Filming took place primarily in New York City, with a large portion of the movie set in a stylish Manhattan apartment designed to reflect the characters' bachelor lifestyles. The production team faced challenges in working with a baby on set, requiring careful coordination and patience to ensure smooth shooting schedules. Nimoy's direction focused on balancing the comedic elements with genuine moments of character development and warmth. The film's lighthearted script, combined with the engaging performances of the leads, contributed to its wide appeal. Upon its release, "Three Men and a Baby" became a box office hit, earning praise for its charming storyline and the chemistry among its stars, ultimately becoming one of the highest-grossing films of the year and solidifying its place in 1980s pop culture. It's another “No Dumb Questions!” You email us to ask, we sit down to answer. There are no dumb questions, but there might be some dumb answers. Today's focus is . . . Formula 1 drivers! What makes one better than another? Mistakes, for one thing. No room for error in the big leagues. Unless you're Lance Stroll, in which case, well . . . his pops owns the team, so . . . UGH, DAD, I TOLD YOU, I CLEANED MY ROOM ALREADY BUT THEN DANNY RIC CAME IN AND MESSED IT UP IT'S ALL HIS FAULT. This show's format rotates weekly, because squirrel. For this episode, we're borrowing the No Dumb Questions framework from Ross's old “Speed Secrets” podcast. Related Trivia: This is our 25th episode! NDQ normally lives on this show's Patreon (link below), but we felt like celebrating.  This episode was produced by Mike Perlman. Jeff, Ross, and Sam are not his dads; that would be nepotism. Or the 1987 Touchstone Pictures film “Three Men and a Baby,” which starred Tom Selleck, Ted Danson, and Steve Guttenberg. Jeff would definitely be the Danson character in that scenario. Or maybe that's Ross? Sam is probably Selleck, but only because he's dreaming now, Selleck had a rad mustache in that flick and Sam has never been able to grow a proper lip rug. The one time he tried, he ended up looking like a cross between Pablo Escobar and a child hobo. We tell racing stories and leave out the boring parts. Ross Bentley is a former IndyCar driver and a world-renowned performance coach and author. Jeff Braun is a champion race engineer. Sam Smith is an award-winning journalist and a former executive editor of Road & Track magazine. Together, we explore the emotion at the heart of the machine. We don't love racing for the nuts and bolts—we love it for what it asks of the bag of meat at the wheel. New episodes every Tuesday.

What is it about 80s-era cop movies?  Is it the wisecracks? The great villains who seem to always use fish markets as a front for their wrongdoing?  The neverending fight against corruption?  Perhaps it's as simple as appreciation for a sultry sax part.  These are the questions we aim to tackle in this week's episode, where we watch the 1989 Touchstone Pictures vehicle Turner & Hooch, directed by Roger Spottiswoodle and starring funnyman Tom Hanks,  Mare Winningham, and Coach Craig T. Nelson.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year is Splash, the first release from Touchstone Pictures, the late film label from Disney as it aimed to create a space for more adult fare. Splash was an immediate hit for the studio, one that defined romantic comedies and fantasies for the 80s, and features an unforgettable score from the legendary Lee Holdridge. Lee is the winner of two Primetime Emmy Awards, two Daytime Emmy Awards, and garnered 18 Emmy Award nominations total, plus two Grammy Award nominations. Lee's work for television and film has spanned more than fifty years for productions including East of Eden, the Beauty and the Beast series from the 1980s, and Moonlighting. In fact, one of his most enduring pieces of music was for ABC's long-running One Life to Live, the late soap opera, for which he won two Daytime Emmys. A spec script sitting in development hell at Touchstone Pictures, called There's Something About Mary, wouldn't be the raunchy r-rated comedy it ended up becoming.Originally written more straight, with Ted as a creepy stalker hiring a PI to track down the girl he crushed on at high school, once the Farrelly Brothers got involved, it became more of a comedy (with traces of those stalker tendencies still included) and 20th Century Fox wanted in.R-rated comedies were big business in the '80s, but by the '90s romcoms were sincere, sweet and told us that love conquered all. There's Something About Mary would not only change the formula for what a romantic comedy could be, it also ushered in the new age of R-rated raunchy, gross-out humour that would make producer/directors like Judd Apatow huge in the future. There's Something About Mary was, in essence, a trendsetter. In this episode celebrating listener Stephanie Q's birthday, the Shat Crew praises one of the few '80s slow-motion scenes that works, applauds surprisingly well-developed characters, and worries about how long Tom Hanks would survive under the sea.  "Splash" was Touchstone Pictures' first release, allowing Disney to flex some of its adult muscles, and we're grateful. It gave us the chance to talk about The King Bee ghosting Gene on their movie date, Eugene Levy typifying the incels of the '80s, and "The Boys" venturing into utterly unwatchable territory. That's A CrimeEpisode 45: Movie Stunt Leads To Real-Life Deadly Game (1993)Jason Connell and Sal Rodriguez break down the true crime story of the Movie Stunt Leads To Real-Life Deadly Game in 1993. The original version of the Disney movie, The Program, contained a scene where several football players lay on a busy local road as a test of their courage. Soon after the film's release on September 24, 1993, several real-life teenagers began copying the stunt, which in itself is a crime, Obstruction Of Traffic. The results of those mimicking the scene were tragic and included 18-year-old Michael Shingledecker, of Polk, PA who was killed almost instantly when he and a friend were struck by a pickup truck. His friend, 17-year-old Dean Bartlett was critically injured. In another case, 17-year-old Michael Macias, of Syosset, N.Y., was put in intensive care after being hit by a car. Buena Vista & Touchstone Pictures, divisions of Walt Disney Studios, were not liable but did remove the scene from the movie.Recorded: 01-25-23Studio: Just Curious Mediahttps://www.JustCuriousMedia.com/Listen: https://ThatsACrime.buzzsprout.com/Watch:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbw014MVA3wQM8INVVe0Obw/Follow:https://www.facebook.com/ThatsACrimePodcast/https://www.instagram.com/ThatsACrimePodcast/Hosts:https://www.instagram.com/MrJasonConnell/https://www.instagram.com/SalvadorLosAngeles/#justcuriousmedia #thatsacrime #mrjasonconnell #salvadorlosangeles #truecrime #misdemeanor #murder #mystery #suspense #thriller #horror #criminal #serialkiller #thief #suspect #victim #guilty #jail #prison #moviestunt #deadlygame #theprogrammovie
