Podniners

QUEST FOR SIX, BABY! GO NINERS

Florida State Seminoles fans, here's the lineup for the three segments from today's Locked On Seminoles podcast:  Up first is Florida State running back verbal commitment Micahi Danzy. Tallahassee (Fla.) Florida State University prospect is a special young man on the field, and off of it as well. Yes, he plays at the high school directly built in conjunction with Florida State University itself. He does a great job representing himself and those around him as well. **Tremendous speed. He told me he ran a 45.99 in the 400. Seeing him move at practice, it's no wonder that Danzy had a bevy of scholarship offers. Danzy chose the Seminoles over the Gators. **He's also a great young man and one that's articulate and thoughtful. He's going to represent FSU well when he's not on the gridiron either. Second segment: FSU running back Trey Benson.  **Is he going to impact the game as a blocker, runner and receiver? If he can get going in the running game, make a few plays, that opens the passing game for Jordan Travis. **Additionally, Benson could be called upon to make some plays out of the backfield. If he gets matched up with LSU linebacker Harold Perkins, that's going to be a blast to watch! Third segment: Seminoles linebackers need to make at least one big play during the early portion of the contest. **Could be creating a fumble, a short-yardage stop, or perhaps picking off a Jayden Daniels pass. **FSU gaining a potential momentum shift from a linebacker like Tatum Bethune could be the difference in the final outcome between the Seminoles and Tigers. Is the defensive line one to watch with the return of Jared Verse, Fabien Lovett and Patrick Payton and the addition of Braden Fiske and Darrell Jackson? Could linebacker be an area of strength with Tatum Bethune and Karen DeLoach? Will the defensive backfield be stellar with the addition of Fentrell Cypress and the return of Kevin Knowles, Akeem Dent and Renardo Green? (Due to a technical error, this episode was supposed to post last week but it's coming out a week late.) Mycah Pittman will be sidelined for the Seminoles for at least the next 4 to 6 months after having hip surgery. The Florida State football team has already seen someone take the lead as a possible replacement in the slot and at punt returner. Winston Wright Jr. has been taking a lot of reps in the slot according to our sources at Spring Camp and we are encouraged that FSU's depth may allow them to not miss a beat. Mike Norvell and Jordan Travis' offense shouldn't really see any drop off through the Spring and Fall. Hopefully Pittman can return through the season and contribute to a special year that the Noles should have in 2023. We are hearing very positive things about Darrel Jackson and Joshua Farmer. They've been described as UNBLOCKABLE for the Noles. Tatum Bethune and Hykeem Williams have also made some great plays and we've got some insight on how a backup QB has looked during Spring as well. A FIVE Star Recruit has everyone surprised after he revealed something SURPRISING at Florida State University this weekend. After meeting with National Championship winning QB, Jameis Winston, he told the media something nobody expected. We also shared some insight on when we might expect a commitment from 5 Star Defensive Back Charles Lester III. 5 Star Running back Target Kam Davis sounds like he could be shutting down his recruitment soon as well. The Seminole commit is currently the highest rated player in FSU's recruiting class. Mike Norvell and FSU are building something special in this class and we're going to continue to cover all FSU Football news related to recruiting, spring practice and more. Insight on another possible injury over on our discord. Sign up for access here: https://patreon.com/dfns Support our friends over at https://thegramco.com! TJ25 for 25% off! Welcome back to another episode of Locked on Seminoles! Drake and Dave continue the way-too-early position previews: this time with the much-improved linebackers! Tatum Bethune transferred to Florida State from UCF and instantly solidified the Seminoles' linebacking corps which, for the first time in several seasons, was generally not a liability for the defense. Kalen Deloach thrust himself into household name status, and potential into a high-level NFL Draft pick, with a series of impressive performances and games in 2022, and yet has significant room to grow. DJ Lundy was, to the likely surprise of many, FSU's highest-graded linebacker on the 2022 season, flourishing under the tutelage of new linebackers coach Randy Shannon. And Brendan Gant showed great potential in his first year at linebacker after changing positions from his traditional safety spot. As a result, expectations are relatively high for the linebackers in 2023, and the solidity of their play could be a key to the Seminoles' defensive success and path to a conference title and playoff run. With that in mind, Drake and Dave assess the expectations and performance of the linebacking unit in 2022, how they expect the Seminoles' linebackers to perform in 2023, and end with a talk about scheme and how FSU's linebackers can become better than good. Welcome back to another episode of Locked on Seminoles, your favorite daily Florida State Seminoles sports podcast! Drake and Dave begin the way-too-early talk with a game-by-game mini-preview of each game, to arrive at a season win total (hint: we're talking playoffs)! With a 10-win season under their belt, a boatload of elite talent returning—including a Heisman-contender at QB with Jordan Travis, an elite RB in Trey Benson, a stable of proven playmakers at WR, an improved and still improving offensive line, a defensive line anchored by veteran leaders in Jared Verse and Fabian Lovett, a vastly improved LB corps with Tatum Bethune and Kalen Deloach, and a DB room filled with talent and now under the tutelage of coach Pat Surtain—and a bounty of additional elite talent pouring in through the transfer portal, the 2023 season appears poised to be a win-now, money-year for Florida State football.  With a real chance to regain the ACC crown and make their second appearance in the College Football Playoff in 2023, the Seminoles' season will of course come down to how well they can navigate their schedule. So that's exactly what Drake and Dave do in today's episode, briefly previewing and predicting a win or loss for each game on the schedule. While there will certainly be some tough games, tune in to find out why 2023 sets up quite well for a Florida State playoff run! Welcome back to another episode of Locked on Seminoles, your favorite daily Florida State Seminoles sports podcast! Drake and Dave discuss all the transfer news today, namely Darrell Jackson transferring in from Miami and a barrage of Florida State's core contributors announcing their return for next year. First, Drake and Dave discuss the impact of Miami interior defensive line transfer, Darrell Jackson, who started all 12 games for Miami this year, is a sure tackler and sound against the run, and will likely plug-and-play as a starter for Florida State next season. Then, the guys discuss the news and impact of a flurry of announcements from key current Seminoles, some of whom we thought might be testing their luck in the NFL Draft (and some of whom we hadn't considered whether they may be transfer candidates), including Jordan Travis, Trey Benson, Micah Pittman, Mo Smith, Robert Scott, and more on the offense, as well as Tatum Bethun, Kalen Deloach, Renardo Green, and Jarrian Jones on the defense. Welcome back to another episode of Locked on Seminoles, your favorite daily Florida State Seminoles sports podcast! Drake and Dave relish in Florida State's utter domination of a hapless and embarrassing Miami football team, and highlight the equally impressive play of the defense and the offense, as the Seminoles tie the largest margin of victory EVER in a road game in this rivalry, winning 45-3. First, Drake and Dave take a victory lap, explaining just how bad that Miami team is (and how much worse they've gotten) under $8 million head coach Mario Cristobal, as the Hurricanes not only didn't belong on the same field as Florida State, but moreover they acted like they didn't even want or care to be there. Contrast that to a Seminoles squad that understood the importance of the rivalry and making a statement therein, as all phases of FSU (including backups) kept their foot on Miami's throat for 4 full quarters. Next, the guys gush over the play of the Florida State defense, with too many incredible individual and team efforts to list off in 30 minutes, including Jammie Robinson's disrespectful TFL (the highlight of which will live on forever in this rivalry), Fabien Lovett's uplifting presence for the defensive line and the defense as a whole, Tatum Bethune's homecoming statement, Jared Verse thanking Miami for only adding to his soon-to-be NFL paycheck, youngsters such as Patrick Payton and AZ Thomas showing out, and plenty more. Finally, they highlight the play of the offense, starting with a monstrous, Dalvin Cook-like performance in which he refused to be tackled by Miami's indifferent and undisciplined defenders, as well as an impressive performance by Jordan Travis (who wasn't asked and didn't have to do much in this one), incredible catches by Pokie Wilson and Johnny Wilson, and last but certainly not least a statement game from Florida State's offensive line giving JT13 all the time he needed and opening up running lanes for the Seminoles' stable of running backs (which didn't even need Treshaun Ward in this one). Welcome back to yet another undefeated episode of Locked on Seminoles, your favorite daily Florida State Seminoles sports podcast! With a big Friday night clash against Louisville just a day away, Dave and Drake offer you some interesting statistics that will likely decide the outcome of this game (looking at you, and hopefully throwing at you, Jarvis Brownlee). Next, the guys discuss FSU's keys to victory against the Louisville Cardinals, including converting third downs and making Malik Cunningham beat you through the air. Malik's success rate steadily increases when he is on designed runs and his elite scrambling ability take center stage, maybe DC Adam Fuller relies on Tatum Bethune to help in that department?  Finally, they discuss the impact of a win and a 3-0 start on the outlook of this season and the recruiting implications, as well as whether a loss would be a setback to this team's goals. How ill this impacts recruits with early decisions to make? Will this assuage the fanbases concerns? Lastly, who would've thought this is where the team would be at this point in time.  As always, thanks for making Locked on Seminoles your first listen each and every day. Happy Monday and welcome in to Noles News Now, your podcast home for all things Florida State. I'm Brian Pellerin and I'll be guiding you through the weekend that was. And the big ticket item was the first scrimmage of fall camp. We have plenty of notes, takeaways, and full press conferences posted on TomahawkNation.com, but I'll bring you the SparkNotes version of it. The biggest overall notes — largely positive vibes from the coaching staff. Mike Norvell said he was plenty happy with his team's effort across the board. He marked the improvement he's seen in Illinois transfer wide receiver Deuce Spann and linebacker Tatum Bethune. He also mentioned his team's grit and grind heading into week two. Defensive coordinator Adam Fuller specifically mentioned his group's speed getting to the ball. Offensive coordinator Alex Atkins was thrilled with his younger guys and other new faces living up to the standard in their first go around in the scrimmage. Again, all that content and more is available now on TomahawkNation.com. Also available there and wherever you're listening to this is a new episode of the Seminole Wrap podcast, where myself and Max Escarpio talk with former FSU star and two-time Super Bowl champion Bryant McFadden about a wide range of topics, including the need for Jordan Travis to answer the bell now to take the next step, why the LSU game is the biggest game on the entire schedule, the direction, and expectations of this program, fun tales of his teammates during his time at FSU and more. If you are looking to get excited for the year, listen to that pod because Bryant will have you ready to put on a helmet and run through a wall. Really interesting stuff and he's making ventures into the NIL space to help the Seminoles in recruiting as well. Definitely worth your time. Speaking of recruiting, the Noles just hit a home run on the trail this weekend with the commitment from 4-star running back Samuel Singleton on Friday. The 5-foot-11180 running back is from Fleming Island Florida. Our Three Stars of recruiting guys looked into what the Seminoles are getting from this tough runner. You can get that information in their latest episode available now. The men's basketball team is north of the border this month for some scrimmages. They knocked off the Ottawa Gee-Gees, real name I'm told, over the weekend by 20 so it's a good sign there. For a deeper look into the trip this preseason, Tomahawk Nation's Michael Rogner dropped a podcast also available now on this feed. Football, not the only team holding their first scrimmage of the fall, as soccer was back on the pitch this weekend as they look to reload from last year's championship team in Brian Pensky's first season. For more on the team plus observations on men's and women's hoops as well as softball, take a look at Prince Akeem Jaffar'snotebook: Burning Questions Edition. Fall sports are also most here and we're doing what we can to deliver all the content you can desire. Lots of pods and articles are available for you to pick and choose how you get your content. FLORIDA STATE — Florida State Seminoles football took the field for its first scrimmage of the fall on Saturday, using the night to gauge the progress the Seminoles have made since spring camp concluded. Through the first week of practice, an elevated level of intensity, physicality, and depth was on display — leading to an increase in quality and competition across the board. Just throwing on full pads (as the Seminoles did for the first time on Tuesday) helps separate significant progress from incremental, going scrimmage speed helps give a benchmark on where the team stands and further begins the acclimation process as FSU ramps up to its season opener vs. the Duquesne Dukes on August 27. Head coach Mike Norvell, offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Alex Atkins, special teams coordinator and defense ends coach John Papuchis and defensive coordinator Adam Fuller all spoke with the media following Saturday's scrimmage, offering takeaways, thoughts, and insight on the team's performance. Norvell was pleased by effort from the team. He mentioned the improvement from guys like receiver Deuce Spann and linebacker Tatum Bethune, also the grit and grind from all the players. “I thought tonight was a good first scrimmage. We got in a little over a hundred plays...we got some live special teams to work which is something we wanted to be able to introduce more. I thought there was some really good work that was shown there.” “It was a good back and forth — I thought our first defense really flew around to the ball. Made some good plays. I thought it was a good balance.” Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

As the college football world collectively waves goodbye to the 2021-22 season, a plethora of college football players do the same to their old schools. These defectors, commonly referred to as “transfers,” are dramatically altering the landscape of the sport, and teams' rosters, at a rapid pace. The Florida State Seminoles are one of those teams in need of a rapid and dramatic change of their roster. Two coaching changes at the infancy of the Early Signing Period period have created holes in the roster that are yet to be filled but in these past couple of weeks, the ‘Noles have taken significant steps towards alleviating some of these issues. The biggest transfer commit came with defensive end Jared Verse. He has elite length and athleticism and if he could smooth out a few rough edges he could be a guy that replaces some of the production left behind by Jermaine Johnson. Another infusion of defensive talent came with linebacker Tatum Bethune from UCF. He is a rangy linebacker who at worst gives more depth to a thin position and at best gives you a linebacker you can rely on for any down and distance. On the other side of the ball, the receiver position was bolstered with the commitment of Winston Wright from West Virginia. He may be the most game-ready of the three true wide receiver transfers taken in this offseason. This particular group of transfers is an exciting one but words can only do these kids so much justice. So jump in with the guys from the Triple Option as they break these kids down to see what kind of impact they can make for FSU next season. Learn more about your ad choices.
