Raheem Mostert followed Mike McDaniel to Miami and the decision paid off in a major way. Mostert led the league with 18 rushing touchdowns while rookie third-round pick De'Von Achane averaged more than seven yards per carry on the ground. That said, Miami's rushing attack disappeared with its Super Bowl aspirations late in the season. Considering that Jeff Wilson Jr., Chris Brooks, and potentially Salvon Ahmed are all in the mix, we explain why it doesn't make sense for Miami to swing big for King Henry. While "thunder and lightning" seems to make sense for a running back duo, the Dolphins have struggled with it in recent years. Miami's offense did enough to win on Sunday but struggled in the red zone, converting a touchdown on just one of four trips down the field. The Dolphins have leaned on kicker Jason Sanders more of late, but it's important to keep in mind that Miami has continued to find the end zone — in most games. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa found Raheem Mostert for a touchdown, but the Dolphins won the game by running the football. Jeff Wilson Jr. stamped this game with an early third-down reception and did most of the heavy lifting during the game-sealing drive. Miami entered the year with Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. expected to be the team's top two running backs entering the 2023 season. That said, it didn't take long for De'Von Achane to run through and steal the show, despite limited playing time. the former Texas A&M running back aeverages 9.5 yards on 56 carries through six games for 534 yards and seven touchdowns. Achane was targetted four times against the Commanders and it could be argued that yards we left on the field. Miami as one of the league's top receivers in Tyreek Hill — could coach Mike McDaniel be molding Achane to follow in his footsteps? It was apparent that Miami had top-end talent entering the season, but unexpected stars are pushing this team toward the top of the playoff race. Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel met with the media Friday and provided injury updates for a handful of players. We run through injury updates for De'Von Achane, Isaiah Wynn, and Jevon Holland ahead of Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders. Friday's practice will be Holland's test as it'll be his first time on the field this week after injuring both (BOTH!?) knees against the New York Jets on Black Friday. With De'Von Achane ready to return to the line, what can we expect from a rotation also featuring Jeff Wilson Jr. and Raheem Mostert? Only the Baltimore Ravens average more rushing yards per game than the Miami Dolphins but recent injuries could jeopardize the team's ground assault. The Dolphins announced on Tuesday that Salvon Ahmed would be placed on injured reserve. Raheem Mostert played 55/70 snaps last Sunday but Miami will need another answer at the position. De'Von Achane "should" play Friday and Jeff Wilson Jr., despite being a healthy scratch last week, is another option the Dolphins could lean on down the stretch — will it be enough to reach the finish line? This clip originally aired on the podcast: Dolphins at Jets Week 12 Preview: Tim Boyle Time, Miami's Mismatch, and Avoiding Turnovers Another Dolphins Podcast is hosted by Joshua Houtz (@Houtz) and Jake Mendel (@JMendel94) with Marek Brave (@MBrave13) joining as a guest host. The Miami Dolphins trail just the Baltimore Ravens in rushing yards per game but are suddenly dealing with a handful of injuries at the position. After playing 20 snaps and scoring a touchdown Sunday, the Dolphins announced that running back Salvon Ahmed would be placed on injured reserve with a foot injury. On top of that, rookie De'Von Achane played just four snaps before leaving the game with a knee injury. It sounds like coach Mike McDaniel decided to play it safe with Achane, but we'll have to wait and see how safe. Jeff Wilson Jr. was a healthy scratch last week but will likely have a large role in the coming weeks. Another Dolphins Podcast is hosted by Joshua Houtz (@Houtz) and Jake Mendel (@JMendel94). The Miami Dolphins dominated the Week 10 bye as the Buffalo Bills, New York Jets, and New England Patriots all lost impressively. The Bills fired their offensive coordinator after Buffalo lost due to a 12-men on-the-field penalty, the Jets continue to start Zach Wilson, and the Patriots benched Mac Jones in Germany — a great weekend for fans of the Miami Dolphins. De'Von Achane's practice window opened late last week as he inches his return to the field after suffering an early-season knee injury. Miami's backfield will soon feature Achane, Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., and Salvon Ahmed — how will coach Mike McDaniel split snaps throughout the final eight games? Miami also signed wide receiver Anthony Schwartz and the premiere of Hard Knocks was announced. Another Dolphins Podcast is hosted by Joshua Houtz (@Houtz) and Jake Mendel (@JMendel94). A pivotal matchup between the Miami Dolphins and the Philadelphia Eagles is quickly approaching on Sunday night football. With the Dolphins boasting an impressive 5-1 record, questions loom about their ability to prove themselves against more formidable opponents. We dive into Miami's journey thus far and the challenges presented by a tough Eagles team, examining whether the Dolphins have what it takes to assert their position as a true contender in the league. We begin the show with a quick look at the injury report before exploring how the Dolphins can avoid disaster against Philadelphia's disruptive defensive front — could we see Chase Claypool make an appearance? The Dolphins are without rookie running back De'Von Achane, but it sounds like Jeff Wilson Jr. will be activated from injured reserve for the game. Miami's defense is one of the best at getting to the quarterback, why hasn't it felt that way through six games? Can Miami's pass rush contain quarterback Jalen Hurts, or will they take the cheese while he runs wild in the secondary? Wednesday marks the first injury report of the week — a chance to get a hint about someone's availability heading into Sunday's game against the New York Giants. Injury updates for Connor Williams, Jaelan Phillips, and DeShon Elliot are provided. Additionally, the Dolphins active the 21-day practice window for cornerback Nik Needham and guard Robert Hunt. Meanwhile, the same can't be said for Jeff Wilson Jr. Looking at the Giants, over half of New York's starting offensive line missed practice on Wednesday. That could be a good sign for a Dolphins' defense that features just one player with more than one sack. This clip originally aired on the podcast: Midweek with Marek: De'Von Achane is HIM + Injury Updates for Connor Williams, Jaelan Phillips Another Dolphins Podcast is hosted by Joshua Houtz (@Houtz) and Jake Mendel (@JMendel94) with Marek Brave (@MBrave13) joining as a guest host. We've discussed Sunday's 48-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills enough — WE'RE ON TO NEW YORK! The Miami Dolphins return home for just the second time this season and look to get back on track following a three-game winning streak to begin the season. New York, coming off a performance where quarterback Daniel Jones was sacked 11 times, should be a chance to build the confidence back up following Week 4's loss. Injury updates for Connor Williams, Jaelan Phillips, DeShon Elliot, and Jeff Wilson Jr. while more than half of New York's starting offensive line missed practice on Wednesday. Following the news, we discuss if it's time for the Dolphins to shuffle the running back depth chart and let De'Von Achane run wild. Coach Mike McDaniel and the Miami Dolphins are determined to run the football more in 2023 — who thought it would go this well? The Dolphins ran for 350 yards on eight yards per carry and scored five rushing touchdowns against the Denver Broncos, so why was this team chasing other running backs throughout the offseason? Will Raheem Mostert end the season as RB1? Can De'Von Achane have an impact for each of the next 14 games? We doubted Miami's group of running backs once, will we make the same mistake again? Keep in mind, Chris Brooks ran the ball nine times for 66 yards and Jeff Wilson Jr. may be activated off injured reserve after one more game. From 'Another Dolphins Podcast' (subscribe here): Raheem Mostert leads the NFL with three rushing touchdowns, is seventh with 158 yards on the ground, and averages 5.6 yards per game through two games. Re-signing Mostert made plenty of sense for coach Mike McDaniel and the Miami Dolphins, but could the team need more to make it through a 17-game season?Jeff Wilson Jr. is on injured reserve for at least two more games and Salvon Ahmed suffered an injury against the Patriots, leaving Mostert and two rookies on the active roster. Can the Dolphins lean on De'Von Achane and Chris Brooks, or would it be wise to scan available running backs?Mostert dominated against the Patriots, but should Miami still be in the market for another running back? We heard the rumors surrounding Dalvin Cook and Jonathan Taylor throughout the offseason. Does general manager Chris Grier believe this group can hold for a 17-game season? This clip originally aired on the podcast: 3 Things We're Not Ready To Admit About The Miami DolphinsAnother Dolphins Podcast is hosted by Joshua Houtz (@Houtz) and Jake Mendel (@JMendel94) with Marek Brave (@MBrave13) joining as a guest host. Thursday was a busy day for the Miami Dolphins as three players landed on injured reserve, three players re-signed with the team, and the full practice squad was announced. But wait — there's more! The NFL announced that wide receiver Tyreek Hill won't be suspended for the slap heard around the world over the summer at a Miami marina. Lastly, the Dolphins signed Alec Ingold to a three-year extension. Stick around for the 2023 season superlatives at the end! Reacting to the Dolphins placing Jeff Wilson Jr on the IR to start the season and what it means for Miami's running back room going into the season.
In hour one, Jeff Wilson Jr is headed to the IR - but Hoch and Crowder are still confident in the Dolphins running backs. Solana's WQAM fantasy football draft last night got weird. Plus, Danny Kanell joins the show for a college football preview and had good things to say about all three Florida programs ahead of their openers this weekend.
The Miami Dolphins flirted with running backs throughout the offseason but decided to stick with Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., and Salvon Ahmed after re-signing them when free agency began. General manager Chris Grier didn't stop there — drafting De'Von Achane in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. On top of that, undrafted rookie Chris Brooks earned a spot on the active roster — but do the Dolphins have enough at the position? The Miami Dolphins entered free agency with no running backs under contract but re-signed Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson Jr., Myles Gaskin, and Salvon Ahmed — last year's entire running back room — to new contracts during the offseason. The Dolphins also added rookie De'Von Achane in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Ignoring a possible Jonathan Taylor trade — who will join Mostert, Wilson, and Achane on Miami's 53-man roster? Ahmed shined with a handful of big runs throughout the preseason but Gaskin showcased a level of consistency any play-caller would like in the backfield. What about the hard-hitting undrafted rookie Chris Brooks? Another Dolphins Podcast is hosted by Joshua Houtz (@Houtz) and Jake Mendel (@JMendel94). Jonathan Taylor rushed for 1,811 yards in 2021 and Miami Dolphins' general manager Chris Grier believes he could be the missing piece of the team's offense. The Dolphins flirted with four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook throughout the offseason and have now set sights on the former All-Pro out of Wisconsin. How would acquiring Taylor impact Miami's depth chart? Would either Raheem Mostert or Jeff Wilson Jr. be headed back to the Colts in the trade? On top of that, is it possible that the Dolphins could open up cap space with the move? The campaign to sign Dalvin Cook came to a close on Monday. The New York Jets added Dalvin Cook on a one-year $8 million deal to pair with Breece Hall in the backfield — what does that mean for the Miami Dolphins? Miami will lean on Jeff Wilson Jr. and Raheem Mostert throughout the 2023 season, but where does De'Von Achane come into play? How can Salvon Ahmed and Myles Gaskin get into the mix? De'Von Achane played 50 percent of Miami's offensive snaps against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night but fifth-year tailback Myles Gaskin stole the spotlight with 57 rushing yards on seven carries. It's clear that coach Mike McDaniel and Miami's offensive staff is working to carve out a role for Achane in his rookie season. That said, can a successful preseason from Gaskin shake up Miami's plans at the running back position — considering Salvon Ahmed played just five snaps? Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. will carry the workload in Miami's backfield but Gaskin looked like the perfect "flex seal" running back to help the team overcome the injuries that occur while playing a 17-game season.
