Broadcom Q2 FY2026: Why a Blowout Report Still Sent the Stock Down 10%

Broadcom just delivered another strong earnings report for Q2 fiscal 2026, and the stock fell more than ten percent. CSI breaks down exactly why that happened, what it means for long-term holders, and whether anything has actually changed in the fundamental thesis for one of the most important companies in AI infrastructure.Broadcom has compounded its enterprise value at over fifty percent annually for five years. AI semiconductors now represent roughly three-quarters of the semiconductor solutions segment, which itself makes up the majority of nearly forty-eight billion in trailing twelve-month revenue. Free cash flow hit a record dollar amount this quarter at a forty-six percent margin, still climbing toward its near-fifty percent record high.So why did the stock sell off? The short answer is that Wall Street wanted a raise in 2027 guidance, specifically whether Broadcom's forecast of over one hundred billion in AI semiconductor revenue for fiscal 2027 would be revised higher toward two hundred billion. CEO Hock Tan declined to update that number, and without a concrete revision, earnings expectations stayed flat.Infrastructure software, the VMware segment, is now a cash cow with sub-ten percent growth. The growth engine going forward is AI semiconductors and networking. Chip Stock Investor's position is unchanged, continuing to hold Broadcom as a core AI data center infrastructure name. For in-depth stock research and the Semiconductor Insider membership, visit chipstockinvestor.com. Michael Walrath, Chairman and CEO of Yext, returns to break down why the market has left a profitable, $400 million mid-cap public software company trading at one times revenue, even with over $100 million in EBITDA. He joins AJ Bruno and Asad Zaman to argue that the so-called SaaS apocalypse has almost no data behind it, that most AI layoffs are really a decade of go-to-market overhiring unwinding, and that boring compounders still out-return the hypergrowth darlings. Topics include how venture capital distorts software valuations, why no one is coming to help the 2021 unicorns stuck in broken cap tables, the great GTM despecialization, and the extend-and-pretend game inside venture funds. Plus, a Quiz Pro Quo on new business creation in the US and a Bulls and Bears debate on the future of mid-cap software and the stickiness of the AI platform. Read Michael's essay, No One's Coming to Help You: https://x.com/michaelpwalrath/status/2051364181237010778 Key Takeaways: - The market has left profitable mid-cap software for dead in favor of AI-native growth stories, and Michael Walrath, Chairman and CEO at Yext, leaned into how strange that is for a business that still prints cash. As he put it, "who's writing our obituary? It's the venture capitalists who are funding high-growth ARR companies," even as those same firms can't say what that ARR really means. - The loudest voices setting software valuations are venture investors, and Michael argued their certainty is out of step with their actual hit rate. He called them "remarkably sure of themselves for guys whose whole business model is being right 5 to 10% of the time," noting that being right much more often than that would mean a VC is playing it too safe. - Michael's answer to the hypergrowth-or-die mindset is that durable value comes from compounding cash flow, not chasing the next high-growth story. Pointing to a century of market history and operators like Berkshire Hathaway and Liberty Media, he said, "if you compound effectively, you will out-return these super high growth stories, unless those super high growth stories eventually become compounders." - A lot of the layoffs being blamed on AI may be a decade of go-to-market overhiring finally unwinding. Michael framed the skeptic's question directly: "is it really AI? Or is this a choice that you're making because you overhired for 10 years." Asad Zaman, CEO at Sales Talent Agency, agreed, pointing out that even inside the most AI-native companies he visits, the fundamental way the business runs has not really changed. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Chris discussing his New Year's resolutions, which feature several USC-related ones, and Shotgun discussing the latest transfer portal additions, including former five-star quarterback Husan Longstreet jumping in and heading to join former USC head coach Lane Kiffin at LSU. The podcasting duo then discuss the topic that continues without a resolution: USC's search for a new defensive coordinator. The first half of the show continues with Chris and Shotgun discussing how the Alamo Bowl and the two weeks since the conclusion of the 2025 season have affected the outlook on the Trojans for 2026 in the "Stock Up, Stock Down" segment. Some freshmen get some love for stepping up in the bowl game that featured 12 USC starters not playing while the offensive line seems primed to step forward next season with all five opening day starters and two other reserves that started this year all returning. On the negative side stands USC's tackling efforts after 16 missed tackles as well as the Trojans' recruiting endeavors in the state of Georgia for the 2025 recruiting class  In the second half of the show, the Helium Boys look at the continuously evolving 2026 roster, discussing the latest transfer portal losses, transfer portal additions, the re-signings announced by USC and the last group of players that have not had their future endeavors revealed. The podcast duo also answer your mailbag questions discussing the transfer portal. After some 'Take It or Leave It' questions for Shotgun, the episode concludes with Chris sending the episode into overtime with some things to take or leave in the year 2025. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to look at a wide array of college football, and USC-specific, topics after the announcement of the College Football Playoff participants and bowl game destinations as well as significant roster changes incoming for the Trojans following National Signing Day and the first wave of players announcing their intentions to enter the NCAA transfer portal The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that features Shotgun and Chris both railing on Notre Dame and its insolent decision to not participate in the Pop Tarts Bowl after being left out of the College Football Playoff. After the wild rants on the intolerable disrespect shown to one of our college football national treasures, the podcasters dive into 'Stock Up, Stock Down,' which they use as a jumping off point to discuss a variety of college football topics, including USC finishing with the No. 1 recruiting class in the 2026 recruiting cycle, the evolution of the college football bowl system and some familiar faces the Trojans have/will see. They also take an early look at the matchup between USC and TCU, who will meet in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio on Dec. 30. After a break, the podcasters dive into some superlatives for the Trojans' No. 1-ranked 2026 recruiting class, including their picks for a Day 1 starter and favorite recruit as well as who will transform their body the most and who will be a star when it's all said and done. Chris and Shotgun follow with a dive into the players exiting the program, breaking down the future impact of the 11 players that have made it known they plan to enter the NCAA transfer portal when it opens on Jan. 2. The podcast duo also answer your mailbag questions discussing basketball collapses, opt outs and Notre Dame scheduling. After some 'Take It or Leave It' questions for Shotgun, the episode concludes with Chris making Shotgun choose which bowl games to revive and which to keep dead. The Helium Boys Podcast returns in history-making fashion as Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino record the first live edition of the podcast simulcast on YouTube. Shotgun and Chris are back behind the microphones to break down the Trojans' come-from-behind 29-10 victory over UCLA in the latest iteration of the Crosstown Showdown rivalry matchup. Chris gets things started with his 'Two-Minute Drill' discussing USC getting off to a flat start as it had an emotional letdown after being eliminated from any serious College Football Playoff contention with a loss at Oregon the week prior. Shotgun's 'Two-Minute Drill' focuses on the uptick of defensive pressure in the second half, the impact it had on USC's second-half shutout and why getting pressure with the defensive front is such a high priority going forward. The podcasting duo move into the 'Stock Up, Stock Down' segment, which features a glimpse into the future from the UCLA game both on the field and in the stands. Freshman defensive back Alex Graham and freshman tight end Taniela Tupou, running back King Miller, a senior sendoff with Lake McRee scoring a touchdown and much more are also featured in the segment.  The Helium Boys then dive into the second half of the show which features your questions about a myriad of topics including the worst road trip food stops this season, Ja'Kobi Lane's potential draft stock, thoughts on UCLA's new head coach hire and discussion of the transfer portal with some current players already announcing intentions to enter while some potential targets have already started to emerge. Chris then puts Shotgun through a regular-season final edition of Take It or Leave It with takes solely on whether players will be staying or leaving for a variety of reasons. During the final segment -- the Overtime period -- Shotgun is given reign over the Trevino Tech football program as a coaching carousel hot commodity program leader and must decide on a series of decisions that could determine the future successes of the program he decides to lead. Chris spends his time talking about some Oregon experiences, including a disastrous La Quinta Inn stay.   The HBs move into the 'Stock Up, Stock Down' segment, which features the Trojan special teams, freshman wide receiver Tanook Hines, safety Kennedy Urlacher, tackling on the road and much more.  The Helium Boys then dive into the second half of the show to see if the Trojans can close out the year with nine wins in the regular season against crosstown rival UCLA, one of the worst teams in the Big Ten.  Chris puts Shotgun through another edition of Take It or Leave It with takes on Lincoln Riley's hot seat for 2026, Makai Lemon's Biletnikoff race and tackles for a loss. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return for another highly anticipated episode of the Helium Boys Podcast to discuss USC's big 38-17 win over Northwestern and a big homecoming matchup with Iowa this weekend.  Shotgun spends his 'Two-Minute Drill' to set the mood for this matchup with Iowa and head coach Kirk Ferentz, who has directly taken some shots at head coach Lincoln Riley and the Trojans in recent years. Chris spends his 'Two-Minute Drill' discussing how Saturday will be a good measuring stick for USC in terms of how far the program has come since the loss to the Hawkeyes in the 2019 Holiday Bowl.  The Helium Boys then dive into Stock Up, Stock Down from the home victory over Northwestern, which includes a lengthy discussion about numerology and fake punts as well as Ja'Kobi Lane's making a number of difficult catches. King Miller, Braylon Conley, Carlon Jones, Matai Tagoa'i, Makai Lemon and Jide Abasiri are among the other players mentioned positively while the offensive line had one of their worst performances of the season. In the second half of the show, Chris and Shotgun look at the Iowa Hawkeyes, coming off a narrow 18-16 loss at home to No. 7 Oregon. The Trojans will welcome the Iowa Hawkeyes to the Coliseum for the first time since 1976, which was a 55-0 blowout win for USC. This will be their first ever meeting as Big Ten opponents. This will be a rematch of the 2019 Holiday Bowl in San Diego where Iowa dominated in the second half to a 49-24 win.  The Helium Boys take some quick questions before Chris forces Shotgun into another strange blind ranking. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return to the podcast medium to break down USC's massive win over then No. 15 Michigan at home in the Coliseum, giving Lincoln Riley his first signature win in the Big Ten era.  Shotgun spends his 'Two-Minute Drill' talking about the impressive performance by USC's offensive line, which continues to play well even without two season opening starters. Chris uses his time to talk about the electric atmosphere in the Coliseum and praise Trojan fans for their impact on the game. They then dive into Stock Up, Stock Down, which include the defensive front, Lincoln Riley, kicker Ryon Sayeri and more. The duo also discusses injuries to the running back room and the play of walk-on running back King Miller, who finished with 158 yards and a touchdown, and the dramatic second-half appearance from Bryan Jackson.  USC's top running backs Waymond Jordan Jr. and Eli Sanders were both carted off the field in the first half with injuries, leaving USC with zero healthy scholarship tailbacks. Sanders will miss the rest of the season while Jordan Jr. will be out four-to-six weeks with ankle surgery.  The Helium Boys dive into the second half of the show to preview USC's big road rivalry matchup with No. 13 Notre Dame. This could be the final game in the rivalry for the near future as the two teams do not have a deal to play in place beyond 2025. USC sent an amended offer late this summer toward a multi-year extension, which is more in line what the Fighting Irish wanted, but there has been no acceptance.  To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices.
