The panel made the decision in upholding the April 2020 decision by U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rakoff to dismiss a lawsuit by fantasy sports contestants who claimed they were damaged by sign stealing in Major League Baseball. The five men who sued participated in fantasy contests hosted by DraftKings from 2017 to 2019. NFL – Blockbuster: Colts get QB Matt Ryan in trade with Falcons The Indianapolis Colts have acquired their new quarterback, Matt Ryan, in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons. Indy is sending a third-round pick, No. 82 overall, for the longtime Falcons star. Ryan led Atlanta to its second Super Bowl appearance following the 2016 season. That was the same season Ryan was named the league’s MVP. His arrival means the Colts will be starting a new opening-day quarterback for the sixth consecutive year. The rebuilding Falcons quickly announced the signing of Marcus Mariota, a former No. 2 overall pick. The 28-year-old Mariota played sparingly over the past two seasons as a backup to Derek Carr with the Las Vegas Raiders. NFL – QB Stafford: ‘Right time and place’ to give Rams discount Matthew Stafford realizes he almost certainly could have gotten more money in a contract extension after his outstanding debut season with the Los Angeles Rams. Stafford admitted his priority isn’t more dollars. It’s more rings, and he believes his new four-year, $160 million deal through 2026 gives him the best opportunity to win them with the defending Super Bowl champions. Stafford recognizes the absurdity of considering a deal with $135 million in guaranteed money and a reported $60 million signing bonus to be some sort of discount, yet that’s what it is for a proven veteran quarterback of Stafford’s talents. Golf – Still out of sight, Mickelson decides to sit out the Masters Phil Mickelson won’t be playing in the Masters this year. Mickelson has been out of sight since inflammatory remarks against the Saudi-funded rival league and the PGA Tour. He’s no longer listed under players expected to be compete in this year’s Masters. Instead, his name has been moved on the official website to past champions not playing. It will be the first time since 1994 that Mickelson is not at the Masters. He lost sponsorship deals after an interview in which he says he was willing to overlook human rights atrocities if it meant getting leverage over the PGA Tour. Horse Racing – Judge rejects Baffert stay but delays suspension to April 4 A Kentucky judge has denied Bob Baffert’s request to stay his 90-day suspension but delayed it until April 4 to allow his representatives to seek emergency relief through the state’s Court of Appeals. Stewards suspended and fined Baffert $7,500 last month and disqualified Medina Spirit as the Kentucky Derby winner after determining the now-deceased horse had the corticosteroid betamethasone in his system last May. Baffert is fighting that decision. Franklin Circuit Judge Thomas Wingate said Monday that the court understands the gravity of its ruling on Baffert but said that absent relief from a reviewing court, the stewards’ penalties will begin next month.
