The NFC North is exactly the same as it is last year. Green Bay is coming off a NFC Championship Game run, you gotta be faster than that, without any major team improvement while facing regression in 2021. Luckily for them, the rest of the division ranges from a Jared Goff Jigsaw death trap in Detroit, to Andy Dalton in Chicago, to Minnesota's own struggle to get past pretty alright. Regardless, we'll still have fun with it, like we always do. Maybe an Aaron Rodgers injury opens the door for the Vikings, but probably, probably not. On this episode of Battle Red Radio, Matt Weston and his good friend Taylor preview the NFC North. Topics include: how long Andy Dalton will be able to hold the rocket pad hostage for, the bald visor look, Jared Goff's new favorite band, seven seconds to go five yards; Dan Campbell beating me for not taking out the trash, Green Bay facing the specter of regression once again, Jordan Love doesn't exist, Kirk Cousins (?) underrated, and Minnesota nepotism. Award-winning journalist and NFL Media colleague Mike Silver joins Michael Robinson on today's episode to break down all things Packers and Aaron Rodgers. But first Silver shares how he scored locker room cred early in his career (1:44). Then MRob dives in asking Silver why Rodgers is so upset after going 26 – 6 with two trips to the NFC Championship Game over the last three seasons (3:45). Silver explains it's partly due to the unique situation of Green Bay not having an owner. Silver breaks down how the Packers moves in the draft and free agency since 2019, combined with mismanagement, set the stage for the current rift (5:50). What could the Packers have done to prevent this? Silver has three suggestions (8:35). Where do the coaches stand? Surprise, they'd like Aaron to stay (9:30). Is this about money? Silver thinks it's more about respect and giving him the offensive weapons he needs… but that it's unlikely Aaron would take a team-friendly deal even if the Packers loaded the roster with talent (10:30). MRob wonders if this is Rodgers trying to change the way the Packers do business (12:22), Silver says maybe, but it's unlikely they will…and that's just more mismanagement (13:15). Does elite talent trump a team sticking to its principles? Silver says yes (14:54). Can fans relate? Silver says no (16:47). MRob makes a smooth transition to Silver's current piece published on NFL.com about spending last Thursday night in the Broncos Draft Room (18:45), could Rodgers really end up in Denver? Finally, Mike Silver tells us about the “Pass it Down” podcast he hosts with his daughter (21:15). NFL Total Access: The Locker Room is part of the NFL Podcasts Network.

The 49ers gave the blueprint to beat the Chiefs in last year's Super Bowl: You have to be able to rush the passer using just the front-four, and between Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul, the Bucs seem to have the guys to do that. However, the Chiefs clearly have the edge in the head coach (Andy Reid over Bruce Arians), quarterback (Patrick Mahomes over Tom Brady) and defensive coordinator departments. What's more, you can argue that the the Bucs run to the Super Bowl was a little bit of fool's gold given how fluky some of the games were. Super Bowl LV is set. Tom Brady will be back on the big stage, but this time leading a different team from a different conference. Meanwhile, the defending champs will look to defend their crown. The Bucs beat the Packers and the Chiefs beat the Bills to get to our matchup in Tampa in two weeks. On this episode, Will Brinson is joined by Ryan Wilson and John Breech to break down the conference championship games and look ahead to the Super Bowl. First, the guys have to discuss Matt LaFleur's decision making at the end of the NFC Championship Game (3:00). Why kick in that situation? Aaron Rodgers distanced himself from the decision and our crew tends to do the same. They also break down defensive lapses from the Packers and Kevin King, a somewhat controversial late pass interference call and much more. Rodgers outplayed Brady, but that didn't lead to the result you'd think. Then, the Pick Six Superfriends analyze Kansas City's dominant defeat of Buffalo and ability to flip the switch in the AFC Championship Game (34:00). Andy Reid could be the best coach on the planet right now and his team is clicking headed back to another Super Bowl. Brinson, Wilson and Breech begin to set the scene for Tampa with much more to come on the Pick Six podcast. Finally, they finish with winners & losers from championship Sunday (55:30). Championship weekend routinely brings together at least three of the four best teams in the league, if not all four, and this season is no exception. Start your Championship Weekend prep with Michael Beller and Vic Tafur on The Athletic Football Show. We discuss why this game will likely be different from Green Bay's 38-10 loss to Tampa in October, why there's no stopping Davante Adams, and what makes the Green Bay backfield a challenge for DFS purposes. Meanwhile, with questions surrounding Patrick Mahomes (concussion, toe) ahead of the AFC title game, we consider whether we're headed for a Mahomes-Josh Allen shootout despite some recent turbulence for both offenses.
