Join the Catalyst Mastermind ! If you've ever been told you're too much—too sensitive, too intense, too ambitious—this message is for you. Maybe you've left a room feeling like you should've shrunk yourself to fit in and played it safe. Smiled and nodded instead of speaking up. And somewhere along the way, you started to wonder if the problem was you. But hear me loud and clear: You are not the problem. You're not too much. You're just in the wrong rooms. Let's talk about the right ones—the rooms where your energy isn't drained, it's doubled, where your “unrealistic” dreams spark something in others. Where your passion is seen as purpose, and your depth doesn't make people uncomfortable—it makes them come alive. Because the right people? They don't ask you to tone it down. They look at you and say, “More of that, please.” So if you've ever second-guessed your voice, your ideas, or the way God wired you, lean in. This conversation might be the permission slip you've been waiting for. Because the right room doesn't just accept your fullness—it celebrates it. And, it's time you walked boldly into that space. The only thing certain in life is our death. We do not know when it will be or the circumstances, but it is inevitable. Yet we believed that through the virtues of the Blessed Virgin Mary that we may have a good death, one that allows us to repose in the grace of God.
Three Kinds of People: Wise, Foolish, and Evil | Proverbs Message by Mark Driscoll | Generation Church, Mesa AZAre all relationships equal? Pastor Mark Driscoll visits Generation Church and unpacks Proverbs to reveal the three kinds of people you'll meet: wise, foolish, and evil and how to relate to each with biblical clarity. Learn when to set boundaries, when to extend grace, and when to walk away like Jesus did with Judas. You'll see how Peter was redeemed through repentance and how to surround yourself with wise counsel that strengthens your marriage, family, business, and walk with God.What You'll Learn • The Bible's relational framework: wolves evil, sheep foolish, shepherds wise • How evil people use control and fear and why engaging them only brings chaos • Practical ways to set healthy boundaries that honor God • Why foolish people need accountability and spiritual growth more than sympathy • Marks of the wise: humility, repentance, teachability, Spirit sensitivity • How to build wise counsel across key areas of your life • Six types of relationships and how to handle each one • How Jesus transforms broken hearts and makes relationships new
Let me be honest with you: what worked in marketing a couple of years ago really isn't working anymore. And if you're someone who's still trying to crack that algorithm, who believes your success is entirely governed by the quality of your content, this probably isn't what you want to hear. But it's true. I'm seeing genuinely brilliant coaches burning themselves out creating endless content. Posting multiple times a day. Creating daily reels. Sophisticated carousel posts. Graphics. Jumping on every trend. And they're just not seeing a return on that massive amount of effort. Here's what's really happening: the coaching industry has created this closed shop of engagement. Your amazing content is mostly being seen by other coaches who are also stuck on the same hamster wheel. Not your actual ideal clients. Content Marketing Still Matters (But It's Only One Piece) I'm not saying content doesn't matter. Of course it does. But it's ONE piece of a marketing ecosystem. Your overall marketing strategy needs to be bigger than just a content strategy if you want to build a business that's sustainable for the long haul. Think of it like this: content marketing is the lighthouse - shining out, hoping to attract your ideal clients. But there's another side to that coin, and it's the one thing that's never stopped working. The thing that cannot be hacked, gamified, or outsourced. Relationship marketing. The searchlight piece where you go out and actively build relationships that lead to clients, collaborators, and introducers. Why Everything Changed Just a few years ago, you could post consistently, use the right hashtags, jump on trending audios, and the algorithm would reward you with visibility. More reach meant more engagement, which led to new followers, discovery calls, and sales. I'm not saying it was easy then, but it was more straightforward. More predictable. There was less noise and a hell of a lot less AI-generated crap clogging up everyone's feeds. Now? Complete opposite. The algorithms change every other week. No one knows what's getting prioritised anymore. Platforms are oversaturated. Our attention spans are tiny. And people are absolutely exhausted from posting constantly without seeing results that match their effort. The uncomfortable truth: If your entire marketing strategy is built on content creation and visibility determined by an algorithm, you're building your business on quicksand. What Actually Works: The 80/20 Flip Here's what I want you to think about: how are you spending your marketing energy right now? If you're spending 80% of your time creating content and 20% building relationships, I want you to flip it completely. Spend 20% of your time creating really good content that genuinely reflects who you are and what you believe. Then spend 80% of your time having actual conversations with people. This looks like: Showing up in DMs When someone sends a genuine connection message, reply with substance. Have an actual conversation. Don't automatically dismiss everyone as a pitch-slapper. Leaving thoughtful comments Not just a thumbs up or heart emoji. Actually show you were interested in what they shared. Ask questions. Be curious about them. Following up with people If someone told you a month ago they were working on something, check back in. Ask how it's going. Show them you remember. Show them you actually give a crap. Remembering what matters When you build real relationships, you remember what each other says. You're not just talking about business, you're connecting as humans. The Three Kinds of Relationships to Build As you're building these connections, think about three types of relationships: Potential clients - people who could work with you Potential collaborators - people you could create with or partner with Potential introducers - people who could refer clients to you Not everyone needs to be a direct client. Build a genuine network across all three categories. But Can This Scale? I hear you. You're thinking, "Gill, this sounds lovely, but I can't have individual conversations with everyone. I need something that works at scale." Here's the thing: as a coach selling high-ticket programs, you absolutely need to be having individual conversations with the right people. If you're in scaling mode with more leveraged offers, then yes, use paid advertising to drive enough traffic to override the algorithm. But for mid to high-ticket coaching? Conversations are non-negotiable. It might not be the magic bullet everyone wants, but I'm telling you the truth. Quality Over Quantity. Always. I'd rather have a smaller, deeply engaged audience than a massive following of people who couldn't give a crap about what I do. If you prioritise relationships over algorithms, your business will grow. Maybe not overnight. Not in a viral explosion. But steadily. Sustainably. In a way that feels good to you. That's what we're all after, isn't it? A business that actually works for us. That feels aligned. That doesn't need us to be someone we're not or do things that drain the life out of us. The answer isn't more content. It's more connection. Trust Is Built Through Connection, Not Clever Content This has always been true. It's just that now it's becoming undeniable. Marketing is a long game. Stop trying to shortcut relationships. Ready to Go Deeper? If this resonated with you, I'm running a workshop on exactly this topic: Relationships Over Algorithms. This is a small group session where we go deep into the foundations of how to build relationships that actually matter and how to bring the whole of who you are to those connections. We then spend seven days together in a WhatsApp group afterwards continuing the conversation, practicing, and you can keep asking me questions. God doesn't see humanity the way we do—divided by race, culture, or background. He looks at our hearts, our spirit, and our relationship with Him. In this message, Pastor John Carter invites you to see yourself and others through heaven's eyes and grow beyond surface-level divisions into true spiritual maturity.
After our discussion on the Three Kinds of Madness | Kālī vs. Laxmī vs Sarasvatī on Laxmī Purnimā earlier this week, we launched into a very beautiful, rich and universally helpful Q&A discussion on difficult emotions and how to transform them into ecstasy! We discuss the importance of setting boundaries and not spiritually bypassing our feelings but we also present that state beyond all boundaries in which everything is seen, accepted, and celebrated as God's will! We argue against "healing", "growth" and "transformation" as valid goals in spiritual life in favor of unconditional love, Bhakti for the Infinite Reality, God. We argue that there is no such thing as a true atheist! We present a few metrics for gauging our own spiritual growth. And most importantly, we discuss what happens after you see God!Here is a playlist of our all our Q&A discussions over the years! On this very auspicious Laxmī Pūrnimā (Autumn full moon) I want to discuss the topic we've been meaning to discuss for sometime now: “Kundalinī emergency” or “spiritual crisis" & how to say safe.First, we distinguish between three different kinds of “lunacy”with an emphasis on the destabilizing, “not so fun” kind that can sometimes induced by intense spiritual practice! I argue that the kind of divine madness we see in great realized souls like Sri Ramakrishna is fundamentally different in nature and flavor than the kinds of mental illness that we sometimes fetishize in the name of spirituality but is really a destabilizing and painful experience for ourselves and others. Although outwardly, the "spiritual" kind of madness might resemble the "not so fun" kind, they are not the same and in this lecture we carefully explain why. We also make a reference to a politicized use of "madness" to disenfranchise groups or ideologies that don't fit into the norm as defined by the powers that be, just so that we can be nuanced in our use of the word "madness" or "lunacy" or "craziness", which are all themes that are very central not just to mysticism and spiritual as a whole but specifically to Mother Kālī & her cremation ground retinue! You'll notice much of this talk is expanding on ideas that you might have first encountered here in the Why is Kālī Crazy? talk. And since it was Laxmī Pūrnimā we made sure to have plenty of asides on Mā Laxmī as the embodiment of abundance in every sense of the word. We tell a few Purānic stories to show the secrets of calling in abundance & also, I make a case against understanding "money" (which we point out as a rather superficial conceptual structure) to be the only symbol for wealth! Naturally, this took us into a discussion of the Goddess in all her aspects as Kālī, Laxmī & Sarasvatī (as encountered in the Devī Māhātmyam) and as per the next three big moon celebrations (Laxmī Pūrnimā followed by Śyāma Kālī Pūjā followed by Sarasvatī Pūjā) that come after Navarātri, the 9 Nights of the Goddess. We make a few arguments as to why the cremation ground/cemetery is so important for spiritual life as representing that realm beyond the conscious, "civilized" mind of concepts which we are attempting to venture into as part of spiritual quest, in our journey from the finite to the Infinite! It was a rather rich talk, if I may so myself.May it be an offering to the Divine Mother! Jai Mā!Support the showLectures happen live every Monday at 7pm PST and Friday 10am PST and again Friday at 6pm PST.Use this link and I will see you there:https://www.zoom.us/j/7028380815For more videos, guided meditations and instruction and for access to our lecture library, visit me at:https://www.patreon.com/yogawithnishTo get in on the discussion and access various spiritual materials, join our Discord here: https://discord.gg/U8zKP8yMrM
THREE KINDS OF RESPONSES TO THE MIRACLES OF JESUS
Stop and ponder for a moment. Is it possible that everything you thought was keeping you “safe” was actually keeping you small? We often look to resolve our issues through self-help books, seminars, and courses. But if they really worked, we'd all be perfectly fit, deliriously happy, worry-free millionaires! No, we need to dig deeper.Angie Tumlinson's story is a roadmap on how to find that higher level of fulfullment. She grew up with the values of hard work, perfectionism, and fear-driven faith—beliefs that shaped, then nearly broke, her life. From running a booming church to walking away from it all, from building businesses out of sheer grit (and $27 in her pocket) to discovering the power of belief and imagination, Angie's story is one of resilience, reinvention, and radical self-discovery.Then came the devastating losses of both parents, the identity crisis that followed, and the unexpected mentor (a name you might know!) who appeared just when she needed him most. Along the way, Angie learned the difference between “need” and “want,” how to let go of old paradigms, and why most of us are terrified to admit what we truly desire. When Angie finally allowed herself to envision the life she really wanted, something extraordinary happened—her income multiplied tenfold, her relationships transformed, and her voice grew stronger than ever.So how did she go from exhausted pastor's wife and overworked business owner to creating abundance, freedom, and authenticity on her own terms? And what powerful lesson did she learn about love, control, and partnership that changed her marriage forever?Tune in and find out…Angie's hype song is “Can't Stop The Feeling” by Justin Timberlake.Resources:Angie Tumlinson's website: https://www.elevateyouinstitute.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/angietumlinsoncoach Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/angietumlinsonWatch Angie's webinar, “Go For It”, and discover priceless insights that help you start living the life you dream about at https://www.elevateyouinstitute.com/go-for-it Invitation from Lori: This episode is sponsored by Zen Rabbit. Smart business leaders know trust is the foundation of every great workplace. And in today's hybrid and fast-moving work culture, trust isn't built in quarterly town halls or the occasional Slack message. It's built through consistent, clear, and HUMAN communication. Companies and leaders TALK about the importance of connection and community. And it's easy to believe your organization is doing a great job of maintaining an awesome corporate culture. Because you've got annual all-hands meeting and open door policies, and “fun" team-building events. But let's be real. Leaders who are serious about building real trust are finding better ways to strengthen culture, create connection, and foster community. That's where I come in. Forward thinking companies are hiring me to produce internal podcasts. To bring leadership and employees together through authentic stories, real conversations, and meaningful connections. Think of it as your old-school printed company newsletter - reinvented for the modern workforce. I KNOW, what a cool idea, right?! If you run, work for, or know of a company that wants to upgrade communication,...
This episode begins with a description of the youngest sisters and youngest brothers in fairy tales. They seem out of place and behind everyone else, yet they are the only ones able to break the collective spells of materialism, resentment and despair. They represent the genuine dreamer inside all of us and they are deeply connected to the dream of life and the wisdom of mythology. As agents of myth they have exactly what this troubled world most needs. However, it is the attitudes of the older brothers and sisters that prevail in the daily world. Only after all else has failed will people turn to the youngest sister or brother within who has been holding onto the true dream of life all along. Michael Meade then lays out the old idea of the Three Kinds of Thinking: the logical, the psychological and the mythological. Following the trail of the youngest aspects of the psyche, he shows how when all else makes no sense, mythic imagination makes the most sense. Myth is the deepest layer of life where grace and wisdom and even redemption can be found. Thank you for listening to and supporting Living Myth. What if there were another way to focus that is not stressful or exhausting? And what if this other way of effortless focus and flow gave us more energy and tapped us into an inherent sense of clarity, compassion, and wholeness? Three Kinds of Effortless FlowIn this episode of the Effortless Mindfulness podcast, Loch Kelly introduces us to different types of awareness and uncovers a remarkable and innate human capacity called Effortless Focus. In conventional mindfulness and daily life we try to "pay attention” and “concentrate" by using narrow attention like a flashlight. With effortless focus we learn a unique Indo-Tibetan approach to open awareness and then upgrade to a connected flow that most of us know. Loch introduces three types of flow that we can learn to access any time of the day. They're called absorbed flow, panoramic flow, and awake loving flow. Each of these has its own unique qualities to help you transcend chronic attentional issues like burnout, ADHD, workaholism, overthinking, OCD, hyper stress, low energy, and an inability to concentrate. And most importantly, these levels of flow are not just peak experiences but a new way of relating and creating. They're stable dimensions of your own Self that can become your new normal. In this episode, you'll learn what it means to shift out of your limited chattering mind and live from the zone of Effortless Focus.Effortless Focus Mindful Glimpse The episode features Loch offering a guided practice called “Effortless Focus.” These mindful glimpses serve as invaluable tools for experiencing ways to access the awake consciousness that is already here within all of usYou can now explore all of Loch Kelly's practices and teachings on the new Mindful Glimpses app, found at https://lochkelly.org/mindful-glimpses. Join us as we discuss Fulton Sheen's reflection on those at the Cross. On Good Friday, the world was divided into three groups: the indifferent, the hateful, and the loving. Archbishop Fulton Sheen identified these as the three responses to Christ's sacrifice-and the truth is, we all fall into one of them. But there's another set of three at the Cross: Mary, Mary Magdalene, and John-representing innocence, penitence, and priesthood. Discover practical tips for deepening empathy, cultivating empathetic concern, and applying these insights both personally and professionally to make meaningful connections. This episode calls us to consciously choose empathy, fostering trust and compassion in our interactions. Prepare for our final chapter on the Neuroscience of Presence in the upcoming episodes as we continue to enhance our understanding and application of neuroscience in our daily lives. Welcome back to SEASON 13 of The Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning Podcast, where we connect the science-based evidence behind social and emotional learning and emotional intelligence training for improved well-being, achievement, productivity and results—using what I saw as the missing link (since we weren't taught this when we were growing up in school), the application of practical neuroscience. I'm Andrea Samadi, an author, and an educator with a passion for learning and launched this podcast 6 years ago with the goal of bringing ALL the leading experts together (in one place) to help us to APPLY this research in our daily lives. On today's episode #353 we continue with the second last topic of our 18-Week Self-Leadership Series based on Grant Bosnick's “Tailored Approaches to Self-Leadership: A Bite Size Approach Using Psychology and Neuroscience” that we first dove into with our interview on EP #321[i] the end of January 2024. The goal was that each week, we focused on learning something new, (from Grant's book) tied to the most current neuroscience research, that builds off the prior week, to help take us to greater heights this year. It honestly shocked me that this series took the entire year. Our final topic will be the neuroscience of presence, and then stay tuned for a review of the entire series to help us to move forward in 2025 with a new lens. Now we have not yet covered empathy as an entire topic on this podcast, (yet) but we did mention it on EP 340[ii] with mediation expert John Ford on “Navigating Workplace Conflicts” with his “The Empathy Set”[iii] Card Program. I also included the topic of Empathy within the Character Education program I created for schools, so I know why Grant would think this topic to be important enough to include on his “roadmap” for success. When I looked back to what I had written over 15 years ago on empathy, I found an image that said “empathy is seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another, and feeling with the heart of another” which is right in line with how Grant Bosnick opens up Chapter 18 of his book. Grant reminds us that “empathy is the capacity to understand or feel what another person is experiencing from their frame of reference, the capacity to place ourselves in another person's position, to put ourselves in their shoes, see it from their eyes, their perspective, their way of thinking and feeling.”. ((On today's EPISODE #353 “The Neuroscience of Empathy” we will cover)): ✔ A review of previous episodes where we covered empathy. ✔ The Neuroscience of Empathy ✔ Three Kinds of Empathy (Cognitive, Emotional and Empathetic Concern). ✔ Tips for becoming more empathetic in our daily life to deepen our relationships and improve our outcomes personally and professionally. If you've taken the leadership self-assessment[iv], look to see if Empathy (in Pathway 6, our final pathway in this book study) along with biases, relationships/authenticity and trust is of a low, medium or high priority for you to focus on this year. I was not surprised to see this pathway is a high area of focus for me. I often think “I wonder what this person is thinking and feeling” and try to see a situation from their viewpoint. Do you do this? Think and feel from another person's point of view? That's the first step at putting empathy into action in our daily life. Now let's take this deeper with Grant's book. In Chapter 18 of Bosnick's Tailored Approaches to Self-Leadership, he asks us to remember a time we felt conflict or tension with another person, and asks us to look at the problem from the other person's perspective. I remember Dr. Maiysha Clairborne from EP 289[v] talking about the “3 Positions of Listening” where she informs us we can look at the conflict through our own eyes first, and then step out of our shoes, and into someone else's (she calls this position 2 to see what they see, hear what they hear, and feel the feelings they might be feeling. And finally, the third position, which she says is the most valuable, is the observer position where you can go above and look down at the conflict, outside of each person involved, to see the entire dynamic, or bigger picture. Grant talks about the importance of stepping into another person's shoes, the minute we sense tension or frustration coming up with another person. Feeling empathy for others is an important leadership tool Grant reminds us, as it will help us to “build trust, develop relationship(s) and achieve better outcomes” but he cautions us against making assumptions that can influence our decisions and actions. (Chapter 18, Bosnick, Tailored Approaches to Self-Leadership, Page 235) REFLECTION QUESTION: Grant asks us to reflect on when we might have been wrong about the thoughts or motivations of another person, and what behavior did you take, intentionally, or unintentionally? I always go back to an example that I would share in the classrooms, working with teens on this topic, as this has happened to all of us in some capacity. I'm going back now to when I was in high school, (Don Mills Collegiate in Toronto, Canada) and I was walking along a pathway, outside of my school, and saw my good friend Yolanda (real name). I waved at Yolanda, and looked forward to catching up with her on our way to our classes, but Yolanda didn't wave back to me. I went straight in my head to “hmmm…I wonder why Yolanda is angry with me” and I went another route, so we would miss each other and didn't end up walking together. I had made the assumption that Yolanda was angry with me, and the action I took, was that I avoided her. I can think of countless other times in my life where I've made assumptions like this, and missed opportunities with friends. At a later date, Yolanda asked me why I was avoiding her, ( I was surprised she noticed) and I told her about how I had waved and that she hadn't waved back, and it was then that she told me she wasn't wearing her glasses that day, and never saw me. In fact, she didn't see anything at all that day (the chalkboards included)! I was disappointed that I had made this assumption, and it was a valuable lesson to see through Yolanda's eyes, with how incorrect I was when I made this assumption. The Neuroscience of Empathy So how does empathy work in our brain? Grant reminds us of “the activation of mirror neurons in our brain which help to explain the process of empathy.” In our brain, “empathy is a spontaneous sharing of a person's feelings or thoughts by witnessing and being affected by their emotional state” (Chapter 18, Bosnick, Tailored Approaches to Self-Leadership, Page 236) and that “we mirror or mimic the emotional response that we would expect to feel ourselves if we were in that same context.” I always think of those emotional Hallmark Card commercials that get me every time, or movies where I relate to the character, and wipe away tears, reminding myself “it's just a movie.” The movie Ghost with Whoopi Goldberg, comes to mind, with a memory I'll never forget, from many years ago. As the movie ended, one of my friends wasn't ready to leave the theater, and I remember him not wanting to talk about it, as he wiped tear away from his eyes, hoping none of us would notice. The movie had triggered his mirror neurons and like Grant Bosnick mentioned in his book, movies can do this to us! Grant gives us the origin of these mirror neurons by sharing that “they evolved in the human brain to facilitate and understand the actions we need to take in response to others as, at least in human history (he says) our survival would depend on it.” (Chapter 18, Bosnick, Tailored Approaches to Self-Leadership, Page 237). My friend didn't want to “feel” what Patrick Swayze was feeling in the movie, Ghost, but his mirror neurons wouldn't give him much choice. I remember reading in National Geographic, about the origin of our “mirror neurons” and learned that “humans communicate through facial gestures. Control of these expressions lies in the brain stem and amygdala, beyond consciousness.”[vi] This makes sense to me, since when you try to control it, or not feel these emotions, (like my friend in the movie theater) it's very difficult, and almost impossible. Do you relate to mirror neurons, and feeling empathy for others in this way? Three Kinds of Empathy Bosnick goes on to share that there are three kinds of empathy: cognitive empathy, emotional empathy and empathetic concern. Cognitive Empathy is “taking another person's perspective and understanding the situation as they see it” (Chapter 18, Bosnick, Tailored Approaches to Self-Leadership, Page 237) like we learned from Maiysha Clairborne with the three positions of listening. “Through their words and body language, we process it logically, taking their perspective, without experiencing it.” The mirror neurons do not fire here. Emotional Empathy is “feeling someone's pain or emotion by seeing it in them and simulating/sensing it in ourselves.” (Chapter 18, Bosnick, Tailored Approaches to Self-Leadership, Page 237). In this case, mirror neurons fire as we experience the situation like it were our own, like my friend in the movie theater. Grant points out that “different parts of the brain are activated during emotional empathy and cognitive empathy. As a result, we process it differently within our brain. It has also shown (that we just mentioned from the quote from National Geographic) that we can control cognitive empathy much more than emotional empathy because it uses a logical part of our brain rather than an emotional center.” (Chapter 18, Bosnick, Tailored Approaches to Self-Leadership, Page 238). He does urge us to work on using both at the same time “to understand the other person's perspective AND experience their emotions” to come at the most accurate conclusion to how they are thinking and feeling. Grant pointed out that in the workplace, he usually defaults to using more cognitive empathy, and just by adding more emotional empathy, he is able to truly understand those he works with, and empathize with them on a deeper level. Empathetic Concern is “the feeling that if I can do something that can help you, I will…when I see you are in trouble, I want to help you out…It is being genuinely concerned with others and experiencing other-oriented emotions to help them.” (Chapter 18, Bosnick, Tailored Approaches to Self-Leadership, Page 240). This is “when we express care, tenderness, compassion…about another person, supporting them, showing trust, allowing them space.” Bosnick says empathetic concern takes “emotional empathy” to a deeper level. REFLECTION QUESTION: When have you experienced empathetic concern? Think of one personal and one business example where you have genuinely felt concern for another person and wanted to help them. Reflect on what how empathetic concern deepened the levels of trust, helped to develop a better relationship, with improved outcomes. Bosnick warns us that “although empathy is a natural biological process within our brains, it is not automatic” and shares that “feeling empathy is a choice we make.” (Chapter 18, Bosnick, Tailored Approaches to Self-Leadership, Page 241). His book does dive deeper into situations where people may consciously, or unconsciously choose not to be empathetic with tips on how to develop habits for effective empathy that include listening to others, standing up for others, reading more books, and even how to raise empathetic children. You can dive deeper into the topic of empathy in chapter 18 of Grant's book. REVIEW AND CONCLUSION To review and conclude this week's episode #353 on “The Neuroscience of Empathy” we covered: ✔ A review of previous episodes where we covered empathy (John Ford's episode and also with Dr. Maiysha Clairborne) that are excellent to review. ✔ The Neuroscience of Empathy, our mirror neurons, and a warning to watch making assumptions in this process. ✔ Three Kinds of Empathy (Cognitive, Emotional and Empathetic Concern). ✔ Tips for becoming more empathetic in our daily life, and practice Empathetic Concern where we can, to deepen our relationships and improve our outcomes personally and professionally. I hope this episode has provided you with a deeper understanding of ways to practice being more empathetic in your personal and work life. I know that the world can be a better place if we all can learn to think and feel from another person's point of view, and finally, if we have solutions that can genuinely help others, to lean in and offer some ideas to support those that are close to you. It can only work to bring you closer. With that thought, we will close out this episode, and we will see you next time with our final chapter, The Neuroscience of Presence, before reviewing the entire book. Have a great week. All of us know that leadership is a demanding thing. Physically, psychologically, emotionally, and spiritually. Anyone who stands in front of the crowd and points the right direction will take a beating. And yet strangely this is exactly what God asks us to do. Maybe it's for this reason that our Lord himself took times to rest. In this second part of our series on Leadership Lessons From the Summa, St. Thomas Aquinas teaches us the three different ways that Jesus rested.

This episode of Living Myth begins with the meaning of the verb to think. Ever since Descartes declared, “I think therefore I am,” thinking has come to mean to form in the mind, to consider, to reflect upon. Yet, the Indo-European roots of the verb “to think” can also mean “to feel” and even “to imagine.” The sense of thinking having more than one meaning leads back to the ancient idea that there are three realms of life and three ways of thinking about the world. The first and most evident realm of life appears as what most now refer to as the “real world.” At this level, things tend to be seen as concrete and measurable and thinking tends to be objective, logical, even logistical. The second realm of life involves a greater capacity for psychological thinking as there is a kind of doubling of reality. How we feel is added to the factual details of what we experience. Our inner life expands, a deeper self becomes more present and relationships become more complex and more important. On the third level of life, we find that behind the logical and beyond the psychological, there exists the realm of the mythological. Seen this old way, myth has its own logic as imagination is added to the powers of thinking and feeling. It has become a common mistake to think that myths are about the past, the deeper truth is that myth is about what happens all the time. It isn't that literal things aren't real, but that they have never been the whole story. Mythic imagination can reveal the hidden patterns and universal truths that make events meaningful and that can also make life renewable. For, myth has always performed a redeeming function as it can open new ways to envision the world and new paths to follow in life. Myths are vehicles of imagination that are not intended to be believed in, but that exist in order to be learned from. The deep and abiding truths that nourish the roots of life can never be proven through scientific methods, but must be grasped intuitively. The point is to allow the immediate powers of myth and imagination to give us a poetic grasp of our own lives and the events in the world. Whereas history is said to simply repeat itself, myth connects us to the origins of life where creation constantly renews itself. When life seems to make no sense at all, it is the mythic sense of life that we are lacking. Mythic imagination makes the most sense when the common sense of things has been lost and the familiar ways of thinking and seeing no longer work. This is part 8 of the Read the Bible For Yourself. The Book of Psalms is an eclectic collection of poetry that you can use to connect to God. In today's episode you'll learn about the different kinds of psalms, who wrote them, and how Hebrew poetry works. The goal, as always, is to equip you to read and understand on your own. Whether you've been reading the Psalms for years or are brand new to them, this episode should empower you to get more out of them than ever before. Also, I conclude by recommending a method of reading, called Lectio Divina, which you can use to meditate on the Psalms. It is sometimes described as covenant love, though in the OT it rarely appears in the company of the word ‘covenant.' It is used in two connections: when someone makes an act of commitment for which there is no reason in terms of prior relationship, and when someone keeps their commitment when they might be expected to abandon it (e.g., because the other person has done so). It is the Hebrew equivalent to the Greek agape.”[1] Walter Brueggemann's Three Kinds of Psalms Orientation: celebrate order in creation and in morality (Psalm 8) Disorientation: complaints about injustice and God's inactivity (Psalm 88) Reorientation: renewed sense of trust; thanksgiving for deliverance (Psalm 30) The psalms nicely compliment the various types of wisdom literature we covered last time. 14 Types of Psalms Praise Psalms Historical Psalms Torah Psalms Creation Psalms Royal Psalms Enthronement Psalms Wisdom Psalms Prophecy Psalms Trust Psalms Petition Psalms Complaint Psalms Repentance Psalms Imprecatory Psalms Thanksgiving Psalms Hebrew Poetry Word play Acrostic psalms Thought rhyming instead of word rhyming Synonymous parallelism Antithetical parallelism Synthetic parallelism Transliterated Terms Selah (71x) may mean a pause (perhaps for a musical interlude). Look for a verse or phrase that sticks out to you. Pause and reflect on that phrase turning it over in your mind Third reading Read text once. Ask God what he wants you to do in relation to the phrase you have been contemplating. Listen for a response. Review The book of Psalms contains 150 poems, songs, and prayers written by several different authors, divided into five books. More psalms are associated with David than anyone else (73). He was responsible for tasking the Levites with praising God through music. A key reason to praise God in the Psalms is because his chesed (steadfast love) endures forever. Psalms of orientation celebrate the orderliness of creation and the moral universe. Psalms of disorientation cry out for help amidst times of injustice, persecution, and suffering. Psalms of reorientation thank God for his deliverance in a situation. The many kinds of psalms are for you to use when you go through similar blessings, trials, doubts, and deliverances. But we also don't want to be idealist dreamers, planning for so much more than is actually possible.Have a purpose for everything you assign. Avoid busy work. Will having done this work make a difference in the child's education? Will both of you be happy in ten years that you did it. You will be when it comes to reading good books, having meaningful discussions, learning important skills.Mystie Winckler encourages moms to organize their attitudes and get traction at home so we are no longer overwhelmed or frustrated with homemaking. We are a community of Christian women striving to be competent, cheerful homemakers so we are fruitful, faithful, and hospitable. Subscribe for regular encouragement!
Unlike religious narratives or scientific theories, folk myths don't require that we believe in them. They simply prefer that we continue to learn from them. Sometimes, the ancient wisdom needed for surviving and transforming our lives comes in the form of animals. This episode of Living Myth centers upon an old teaching tale about how a wise fish, a half-wise fish and one who is simply unwise deal with the nets intended to entrap them. Amidst a consideration of all the current crises that can entrap and incapacitate us, a bird appears with three pieces of wisdom about avoiding being trapped by the past as well as being caught in present fears and dangers.
