Samen nemen ze je in deze aflevering mee langs de meest memorabele momenten van de dag.Wat doe je als je al bij kilometer 16 schrikt van je hartslag? Hoe ga je om met kramp die maar niet wegtrekt? Toch besloot ze te starten — goed voorbereid, maar met aangepaste verwachtingen. Haar verhaal laat zien dat slim plannen en loslaten soms belangrijker is dan blind vasthouden aan een schema.Hoe voelt het om je allereerste marathon te lopen?Ella (18) liep samen met haar vader haar eerste 42,2. Ze vertelt hoe spannend het was, hoeveel ze aan hem had onderweg, en hoe euforisch het voelde om samen over de finish te gaan. Ook Anne Jet en Bas delen hun ‘eerste keren' en de lessen die daarbij horen.Wat is een slimme strategie als je in de buurt van een pacergroep loopt?Gerrit en Margot lieten zien dat je niet klakkeloos achter een pacer aan hoeft te lopen. Gerrit koos ervoor om een paar seconden per kilometer sneller te starten, zodat ze de pacergroep konden inhalen en wat marge hadden. Margot gebruikte juist het “inlopen op de pacers” als mentale trigger. Kies dus bewust of je meeloopt, inhaalt of juist erachter blijft — afhankelijk van je gevoel en het verloop van de race.Hoe ga je om met onverwachte signalen van je lichaam tijdens de race?Ella schrok van haar hoge hartslag bij kilometer 16, maar dankzij een rustige uitleg van haar vader bleef ze kalm. Ze wist: “Dit is mijn drempel, ik kan dit aan.” Paniek leidt vaak tot onnodige energieverspilling. Vertrouw op je voorbereiding, herken het verschil tussen ‘nieuw' en ‘gevaarlijk', en blijf rationeel.Wat als je al vroeg kramp of spierpijn krijgt?Leonie kreeg rond kilometer 18 last van haar bovenbenen, maar bleef haar race opdelen in blokjes van vijf kilometer. “Vijf kilometer kan ik altijd nog,” hield ze zichzelf voor. Die mentale aanpak hielp haar toch binnen de vier uur te finishen. Door je race op te knippen, maak je zware momenten mentaal behapbaar.Heeft het nut om je raceplan af te stemmen op het parcours?Zeker. Daley deelde hoe hij in Enschede te vroeg een groep inhaalde, net voor een open stuk met veel tegenwind. Daardoor liep hij de finale alleen en werd het onnodig zwaar. Zijn les: kijk niet alleen naar je tempo, maar ook naar het parcours en de omstandigheden.Wat als je pas laat beslist om mee te doen aan een marathon?Gerrit besloot pas kort van tevoren om in Rotterdam te lopen en kon via de community nog makkelijk aan een startbewijs komen. Zijn verhaal laat zien: je hoeft niet altijd een jaar van tevoren in te schrijven. Plyometrie zoals bounds of squat jumps verbetert je loopefficiëntie, zegt Jeroen. Je leert sneller kracht zetten en beter afzetten. Begin laagdrempelig en met goede techniek, en bouw het rustig op.Hoe kun je thuis effectief aan krachttraining doen?Je hebt echt geen gym nodig, benadrukt Jeroen. Met je lichaamsgewicht en een trap of rugzak kom je al ver. Denk aan split squats, excentrische lunges of eenpootsprongen. Belangrijkste is dat je het serieus neemt: goede vorm, progressieve belasting, en rust.Is krachttraining ook belangrijk voor oudere sporters?Juist dan, zegt Jeroen. Na je dertigste verlies je spiermassa als je niets doet. Met gerichte krachttraining houd je je botten, pezen en spieren sterk. Take a trip to the summer of 2025, since Gerrit Barnard is in Cape Town South Africa (Where it is now summertime). He is the Director of Sales for EMEA (Europe Middle East Africa) for C&D Technologies / Trojan Battery Company. In this episode, we answer a litner's question about a story they heard about Joseph Smith raising someone from the dead in Nauvoo. Many may not be aware of this, but apparently, the flood plains of the Mississippi River may have an above-average number of mosquitos and there is a breakout of malaria that leaves many Saints nigh unto death. Gerrit shares several miraculous experiences performed in Nauvoo during this malaria breakout. Gerrit also shares a story told by Levi Curtis about William Huntington being raised from the dead.
