IT'S LETTER DAY! It's 2 PM before the soirée! Anne and Harville discuss women's vs. men's constancy, Wentworth writes Anne a kicker of a letter, and they FINALLY talk about their feelings for each other.Topics discussed include internal panic, Wentworth's attempts to attach himself to Louisa, whether Anne was right to be persuaded by Lady Russell, Wentworth's pride, and whether hazelnuts poop Nutella.Glossary of Terms and Phrases:innoxious (adj.): having no adverse effect. innocuous. not injurious to physical or mental health.Glossary of People, Places, and Things: The Notebook, Amanda Fagan - Half Agony, Half Hope, Veronica Mars, The Good Place, How I Met Your Mother, Spongebob, Kacey Musgraves - Happy & Sad, BeyoncePatron Study Questions:Adrianna: How does the conversation between Anne and Harville resemble the hazelnut conversation from earlier in the novel, and does this parallel show the development of Anne, Wentworth, and their relationship?Avi: In this chapter, there is a discussion between Anne and Captain Harville about the feelings of men versus women. From this discussion, and from the other books you have read, what do you think Jane Austen is saying about the perception of women in her society?Ghenet: OH BABY THIS CHAPTER! 1. What does Mrs. Croft and Mrs. Musgrove's conversation about engagements show us about society and about Anne and Wentworth, their feelings and their own engagement? Why does this conversation get them so in their feels? 2. Where does the ‘half agony half hope' proposal rank for you in other main character proposals from the books you've read so far (ie Edward, Darcy, Knightley etc)!Anna: If Mrs. Croft represents the best case scenario for what Anne's life would have been if she'd married Wentworth all those years ago, Mrs. Smith in many ways represents the worst-case scenario (widowed with no income, cut off from helpful connections, etc.). Does seeing both outcomes affect your opinion on Anne's original decision all those years ago? How do you think that affect's Anne's ultimate opinion on her actions? Becca's Study Questions: Topics discussed include Austen's beliefs on constancy and moving on, the letter's role in the story, Wentworth's heartbreak playlist and his journey through the book.Quote: "I am half agony, half hope."Questions Moving Forward: What will Anne's family say? What will happen with Elliot and Mrs. Smith?Who wins the chapters? 17 Days: A Widower's Story of Loss, Resilience, and Parenting Through Grief with Shane Musgrove In this episode, you'll hear: Insights into the unique challenges of being a widower, both as a man and a father Tips on finding the right support group Practical and compassionate approaches to guiding children through grief Shane Musgrove is the creator of 17 Days, a public speaking platform dedicated to helping others navigate grief, loss, adversity, addiction, and more. Growing up, Shane experienced a challenging home environment marked by abuse and addiction. His father struggled with alcoholism and addictions to crack cocaine and pills, ultimately passing away from an overdose when Shane was in his early twenties. Later in life, Shane's mother also overdosed but has since recovered, and his younger brother, a recovering meth addict, recently served six years in prison. At age 42, Shane faced another profound loss when his wife of 22 years, and the mother of their three children, passed away from metastatic breast cancer after a brief 17-day battle. Today, Shane devotes his energy to making a positive impact in the world, guiding others through life's darkest moments. In this episode, Mathew, Dr. Dave, and Shane delve into Shane's journey as a widower, exploring the unique challenges of being a man and a widow and how the demographics of support groups can play a significant role in finding the right fit for healing. Shane reflects on how his difficult past shaped the way he coped with the devastating loss of his wife, including the heartbreaking 17-day period from diagnosis to her passing and the atmosphere at home during that time. He shares what it was like to say goodbye and the emotional shift from fighting her cancer to accepting her impending loss. Shane also discusses the delicate balance he had to find between managing his own grief and being present for his children, offering insight into his approach to helping them process their own loss. He opens up about how his relationship with his children has evolved through this shared experience and the practical and emotional challenges that came with it. Finally, Shane reflects on the profound ways this journey has changed him, sharing the lessons he's learned, and how they've reshaped him as a person. “There are no bad days, there's only bad moments." “There is a brighter tomorrow.” Follow the podcast: Listen on Apple Podcasts (link: https://apple.co/3s1YH7h) Listen on iHeart (link: https://ihr.fm/3MEY7FM) Listen on Spotify (Link: https://spoti.fi/3yMmQCE) Resources: 17 Days Website Dr. Dave Leicken HealthspanMD Connect with Mathew Blades: Twitter - twitter.com/MathewBlades Instagram - instagram.com/MathewBladesmedia/ Facebook - facebook.com/mathewbladesmedia/ Website - learnfrompeoplewholivedit.com/ Additional Credits: LFPWLI is managed by IMS LLC

Topics discussed include the ranks of British nobility, our high school math classes, internal panic, Wentworth's band of misfit boys, and Wentworth's intentions to marry.Glossary of Terms and Phrases:Gadding (v): go around from one place to another, in the pursuit of pleasure or entertainment.Glossary of People, Places, and Things: Kesha, Am I Okay?, Dakota Johnson, The Notebook, happier, Arrested Development, Schitt's Creek, Jojo SiwaPatron Study Questions:Emily: Anne has very few confidantes in the book so far - how does that change how we learn about her and her hopes?Kat: This book is often described as Austen's more deep or perhaps more serious work, but it is also incredibly funny! What do you think about the balance between the intense pining and heartache and humour in these chapters? We don't have many sassy/witty lines like the ones in P&P, instead we have Jane Austen in her rocking chair painting a hilarious picture for us and I love it!Ghenet: First impressions of Captain Wentworth?Becca's Study Questions: Topics discussed include how Jane teaches us about Anne, the role of the Crofts, the last eight years, what Wentworth wants, and whether Anne is of feeble character.Funniest Quote: One of the least agreeable circumstances of her residence there was her being treated with too much confidence by all parties, and being too much in the secret of the complaints of each house. Known to have some influence with her sister, she was continually requested, or at least receiving hints to exert it, beyond what was practicable. “I wish you could persuade Mary not to be always fancying herself ill,” was Charles's language; and, in an unhappy mood, thus spoke Mary: “I do believe if Charles were to see me dying, he would not think there was anything the matter with me. I am sure, Anne, if you would, you might persuade him that I really am very ill—a great deal worse than I ever own.”Questions Moving Forward: Does Captain Wentworth want to marry a Musgrove daughter?Who wins the chapters? Ben & Woods kick off the 9am hour with The Reindl Report and Paulie's top headlines of the morning, including one of the strangest, best HR calls we've ever heard from a minor league game! Then at the bottom of the hour we hear some audio from Xander Bogaerts talking about the Padres acquisition of Jason Adam, and we hear from Joe Musgrove about the latest on his rehab as he looks to possibly be back on the mound for the Padres sooner rather than later! Listen here!
Tonight, we shall read the next part to “Persuasion”, the last novel fully completed by Jane Austen, and published in 1817. The story concerns Anne Elliot, a twenty-seven year old Englishwoman, whose family moves in order to lower their expenses and reduce their debt, by renting their home to an Admiral and his wife. In the last episode, Anne hears from her sister Mary that Captain Wentworth remarked that he felt Anne was so changed he would not have recognized her. This deeply mortifies Anne, though she admits it to be true. Captain Wentworth, still bitter over their past, shows no desire to renew their acquaintance despite frequent social interactions. His focus is now on finding a suitable marriage, excluding Anne from his considerations, though he still has some lingering unresolved feelings. We pick up in the middle of a conversation between Captain Wentworth, his sister and her husband, Mrs. and Admiral Croft and the Musgrove family regarding the Captain's naval experiences. — read by 'V' — Sign up for Snoozecast+ to get expanded, ad-free access by going to snoozecast.com/plus! The story concerns Anne Elliot, a twenty-seven year old Englishwoman, whose family moves in order to lower their expenses and reduce their debt, by renting their home to an Admiral and his wife. In the last episode, Anne Elliott is distressed by the frequent mention of Captain Wentworth, whom she realizes is the same man she once knew years ago. She steels herself for his arrival in the area, aware that she must learn to cope with his presence. The Musgroves, grateful for the care Captain Wentworth showed to their deceased son, are eager to meet him. Anne faces an emotional trial when Captain Wentworth arrives and quickly earns the admiration of the Musgrove family. However, Anne narrowly avoids meeting him due to a child's accident, which consumes her attention. Despite the child's recovery, Anne remains tense about seeing Wentworth. The Musgroves' praise of him deepens her turmoil, as she navigates her complex feelings and memories. When Anne finally sees Captain Wentworth briefly, she struggles with the realization that their long separation has not lessened her emotional response to him, despite her attempts at rationalizing the passage of time and the changes it brings. — read by 'V' — Sign up for Snoozecast+ to get expanded, ad-free access by going to snoozecast.com/plus!
