On this episode, Joe Exotic calls into the podcast from the federal prison where he's currently serving his 21-year sentence to share a big update on his latest appeal. The ex-Zookeeper who starred in Netflix's infamous docuseries “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness” exclusively tells us about new evidence recently approved in his plea for exoneration, his thoughts on the 2024 election and if he can expect a presidential pardon, what allegedly happened behind the scenes in the “bogus” murder for hire "set-up" with rivals Carole Baskin and Jeff Lowe, what his plans are after release, and the abuse he's suffered behind bars. Send us a Text Message.Joe Exotic, the flamboyant and controversial figure known as the Tiger King, captivated the world's attention with his larger-than-life personality, eccentric lifestyle, and entanglement in a web of legal troubles. Born Joseph Maldonado-Passage on March 5, 1963, Exotic rose to fame as the owner of the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park in Wynnewood, Oklahoma.Exotic's life story reads like a script from a reality TV show, filled with drama, intrigue, and unexpected twists. With his signature bleach-blond mullet, flashy attire, and penchant for self-promotion, he became a cult figure in the world of exotic animal enthusiasts and gained notoriety through the Netflix docuseries "Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness."At the heart of the series is Exotic's bitter rivalry with Carole Baskin, the CEO of Big Cat Rescue, an animal sanctuary in Florida. Their feud, fueled by allegations of animal cruelty, exploitation, and a battle over the ethics of breeding big cats in captivity, escalated into a legal saga that would ultimately culminate in Exotic's downfall. One of the most compelling aspects of Exotic's story is his unconventional lifestyle and relationships. He was openly gay at a time when acceptance of LGBTQ+ individuals in rural America was limited, and his multiple marriages to younger men added another layer of intrigue to his persona. Exotic's unconventional personal life, combined with his unapologetic defiance of societal norms, endeared him to some while alienating others. However, behind the facade of charisma and showmanship, Exotic's life was fraught with turmoil and legal troubles. In 2019, he was convicted on 17 federal charges of animal abuse and two counts of murder for hire, stemming from a plot to kill Carole Baskin. He was sentenced to 22 years in federal prison, effectively ending his reign as the Tiger King.Despite his incarceration, Exotic's legacy continues to fascinate and polarize audiences around the world. The "Tiger King" phenomenon sparked debates about the ethics of exotic animal ownership, the treatment of animals in captivity, and the sensationalism of true crime entertainment. While some view Exotic as a symbol of rebellion against authority and societal norms, others condemn him as a symbol of exploitation and cruelty. Regardless of one's opinion, there's no denying that Joe Exotic's journey from roadside zookeeper to international sensation is a testament to the power of fame, the allure of the exotic, and the complexities of the human psyche. As the world awaits further developments in Exotic's legal saga, his story serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of unchecked ambition and the dangers of blurring the line between reality and fantasy. Whether he is remembered as a tragic figure or a villainous mastermind, Joe Exotic will forever remain an enigmatic and unforgettable character in the annals of pop culture history.www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn www.BetterHelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.

Tiger King (subtitled in marketing as Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness for its first season, Tiger King 2 for its second season and Tiger King: The Doc Antle Story for its third season) is an American true crime documentary streaming television series about the life of former zookeeper and convicted felon Joe Exotic. The first season was released on Netflix on March 20, 2020. A second season, Tiger King 2, was announced in September 2021 and was released on November 17, 2021, while a third season, Tiger King: The Doc Antle Story, was announced on December 3, 2021 and released one week later on December 10. The series focuses on the small but deeply interconnected society of big cat conservationists such as Carole Baskin, owner of Big Cat Rescue, and collectors such as Exotic, whom Baskin accuses of abusing and exploiting wild animals.Season 1 received positive reviews from critics, and according to Nielsen ratings, was watched by 34.3 million people over its first ten days of release, ranking as one of Netflix's most successful releases to date, partly due to its release amid the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, and also inspired several memes online. Despite its success and popularity, the season received criticism from conservation and animal rights groups for its framing and inaccuracies related to private breeding and wildlife conservation issues. A special after show hosted by Joel McHale was released on April 12, 2020, with McHale interviewing several of its subjects about Exotic and the series itself. The second and third seasons in contrast received mostly negative reviews from fans and critics, and the former was subject of a lawsuit by Carole and Howard Baskin over footage used in the series.
Tiger King Season 2 is here, and we are still wondering...what happened to Don Lewis? According to Joe Exotic, Don Lewis' wife Carole Baskin is suspect number one. However, are we sure it was really her? Join us as MJ lays out all the evidence, and possibilities on what happened to Don Lewis? Using the M.O.E. system, we attempt to solve the biggest murder mystery from Netflix's hit series Tiger King. Carole Baskin is an animal rights activist who runs the Big Cat Rescue animal sanctuary. Her appearance in the docuseries 'Tiger King' brought new attention to her advocacy but also spotlighted her rivalry with Joe Exotic. Carole Baskin made a name for herself by running Big Cat Rescue, a respected animal sanctuary for big cats that also lobbies for more regulation of the private ownership of these animals. However, it was the popular docuseries Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness (2020) that transformed Baskin into a public figure. The program showcased tensions between Baskin and Joe Exotic, a private zoo owner who Baskin believed was mistreating his animals. Tiger King also brought new attention to the 1997 disappearance of Baskin's second husband, which remains an open case. Thanks to her post-Tiger King celebrity, Baskin joined the lineup of Dancing with the Stars in September 2020; her cat-themed performances were not a hit and she became the second contestant to be eliminated.
Before Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem & Madness would be ranked as the No. 1 Most Watched Television show in the world with a 98% Fresh review on Rotten Tomatoes. Before Joe Exotic would become immortalized as a meme, a costume, a face filter, and would have his face printed on t-shirts. Before Joe Exotic would be arrested and convicted of two counts of murder-for-hire, eight violations of the Lacey Act, and nine of the Endangered Species Act and would be sentenced to 22 years in federal prison. Joe Exotic has become such a big deal people are already placing bets for who should play him in his own Hollywood movie. Popular picks include Danny McBride, David Spade, Billy Bob Thornton, and both Dax Shepard and Edward Norton have already thrown their hats in the ring. If you were to ask me, I think Michael Keaton would be perfect. Since our last video on Joe Exotic the fandom, intrigue, and memes have only gotten more and more outta control so we decided to dig a whole bunch deeper to found out more. I got some juicy info about what he was like in high school, his ex-girlfriend Kim and a ton of footage that was just too wild to be featured in the Netflix docu-series.
Before Carole Baskin would become a focal point of the new Netflix documentary series “Tiger King”. Before Carole Baskin would be accused of murdering her husband, disposing of his remains with a meat grinder, and feeding him to the large jungle cats that populate her Big Cat Rescue facility. Before Kate McKinnon would sign on to portray her in a scripted version of her life and decade-long feud with Joe Exotic. Up until about two weeks ago, the only people who knew the name Carole Baskin were those heavily invested in the Exotic Cat community or the 75K people subscribed to Joe Exotic's YouTube channel where he would obsessively mention her in nearly every video. As can be seen on the Netflix series, that didn't work out so well for the guy and now Carol's nemesis is behind bars for at least 22-years. But just who really is Carol Baskin? Where did this animal rights activist come from and how did she wind up in the crosshairs of a Zoo Operator? I've dug up lots for you guys in today's video.
After Joe Exotic would open up the G. W. Animal Park home to more than one thousand animals of all different species... we are talking Lions, Tigers, Baboons, Alligators, Puma's Ligers, and Tigons. After Joe Exotic would drop tracks including 'Here Kitty Kitty', 'I Saw A Tiger', & 'My First Love”. After Joe Exotic would be arrested and convicted of two counts of murder-for-hire, eight violations of the Lacey Act, and nine of the Endangered Species Act and would be sentenced to 22 years in federal prison. He called himself the Tiger King and plastered his face on highway billboards in Texas and Oklahoma, the dude even ran for President of the United States and when that didn't work he ran for Governor. Always the showman Joe had a bigger-than-life personality but even more impressive was his private zoo. A lifelong animal lover the dude was living the dream, he had a staff of friends and lovers working alongside him, a profitable business, and was a local celebrity. He was even making moves to become an online star through his constant production of music and talk show content uploaded daily to YouTube. More in this video...
This week we revisit Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness for the one year anniversary. Listen to us discuss who would have sex with Doc Antle, what we think Joe Exotic smells like in the Florida summer, and how we would plot a murder like Carole Baskin.

Well, I caved. I decided to talk abut the Netflix hit documentary Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness in this episode. I'm a little late to this party considering the documentary has been out for quite a while now but, I'm gonna talk about it anyway. Being someone who has worked with animals in the past and who has a fair amount of knowledge of animal husbandry, I have some very strong opinions on this documentary. Just a heads up, it gets pretty intense. But, these are just my personal opinions so, take that with a grain of salt. I'm sure I left some things that I wanted to say out and probably didn't explain certain things exactly how I wanted but, such is the nature of a podcast. Feel free to comment your own opinions and thought on this crazy sh*t show of a documentary. Listen and enjoy! :)

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness claims to be a True Crime Documentary Series. But is it? Is it at all? What crime did we explore? Did it take a position? Or is it just a reality show ingratiating itself into a widely popular genre for trend-ability? Do the filmmakers have a responsibility? This week, Drewby and Yergy discuss the case of Joe Exotic, recently thrust back into the spotlight as the subject of the new Netflix docuseries "Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness." Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage, (né Schreibvogel; born March 5, 1963), popularly known as Joe Exotic, is an American former zoo operator. He previously owned and ran the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park in Oklahoma. He claimed to be the most prolific breeder of tigers in the United States. He ran as a candidate for President of the United States as well as for Governor of Oklahoma, but neither campaign garnered significant public support. In 2019 he was convicted on 17 federal charges of animal abuse (eight violations of the Lacey Act and nine of the Endangered Species Act) and two counts of murder-for-hire, for a plot to kill Carole Baskin, the chief executive officer of Big Cat Rescue, an animal rescue organization for exotic cats. He is currently serving 22 years in federal prison.
