Writer Randy Fox returns to discuss a classic science fiction film from the 1970's. A BOY AND HIS DOG (1975) was a box office flop initially but became a beloved cult movie pretty quickly. It is one of the very few adaptations of a Harlan Ellison story that got the author's 95% approval and we dig into the reasons for that in our discussion. Hugely influential, the film stands as a still relevant template for post-apocalyptic cinema all the way up to the recent TV series FALLOUT. Made for less than half a million dollars it is the rare low budget science fiction film that doesn't show its financial constraints and manages to turn some detriments into positives. Featuring a fine central performance from Don Johnson and excellent supporting work from his canine companion (voiced by actor/musician Tim McIntire) the movie brings the original story to life brilliantly. We discuss the differences from the novella and the reasons for them as well as the few smart improvements the script weaves into the tale. Randy and I share our histories with the film and our own encounters with the legendary Ellison over the years. We dig into the charges of misogyny and misanthropy that are often leveled at the movie pulling apart the details to search for defenses. We find a few. If you have any comments about A BOY AND HIS DOG or other 1970's science fiction films thebloodypit@gmail.com is the place to send them. Thank you for listening!

Whoa 11 movies today, we normally like to do around six. Do I remember any of these let's see, it's been a bit, and we watch a lot of movies. Starting off we have a possibly drunk John Houston directing the great Susan Tyrell in (Fat city 1972). Then it's on to a bit of a quirky blaxploitation classic (Melinda 1972).Starring Rosiland Cash, Calvin Lockhart, and Jim Kelly, yes Jim Kelly, the guy who bests the violent racist police and then drives away in their squad car from the hit film Enter the Dragon. Next is 1975's (Cooley High) starring Freddie boom boom Washington and, oh wait, please excuse me whilst I pour some out for our friends who can't be here…… (Cornbread Earl n me 1975) is very heavy, and it's as topical today as it was then. A must see film, also you must see the young Lawrence Fishburne, I mean cowboy Curtis as he tries to make sense of all this madness. Gawd still 7 to go. In (Sybil 1976) Sally field and her therapist with unlimited time (Joanne Woodward) also try to rise above and figure out all the damned madness. Should come with a trigger warning, the topics can get severely heavy, so take warning. Moving on to (September 30, 1955 1977) where Johnboy from the waltons is sad over the death of James Dean and should be nicer to his goth friend, Dennis Quaid and Amadeus. Next it's (American hot wax 1978) where Jay Leno is an ass to Fran Drescher and Tim McIntire plays Alan Freed who is less racist then most and is constantly followed by do wop groups. Moving onto (Sgt. peppers lonely hearts club band 1978). Just watch it folks. You got Barry Gibb gettin high, Aerosmith gettin higher, and Earth Wind and Fire taking you all the way to the top. Next up to the plate is 1978's sci-fi classic (The alpha incident) finally available for us to see and to find out that…….um it's not good. Don't leave this room or your head will explode, even that sounds cooler than it is. Would you like to know more…… Our last 2 movies this episode are both Gene Roddenberry made for tv films. (Genesis II 1973) and (Planet earth 1974). Where's the Questor tapes you ask, well we gave that one the full decade under the influence treatment. You'll find it under episode 49. These 2 go together anyway. Press play mate and we will tell you all about porn stache Dylan Hunt and John Saxon Dylan Hunt. Alright thems the reviews and we are out of here, thank you for listening.

Alana Devich is an amazing person who USED to be an amazing comedian. She's sick, so we put together a benefit at The Comedy Studio to talk about her comedy, ding benefits for so many friends who are hurting and to talk about comedians leaving comedy. Should we try to talk them out of it, or envy them for getting out?!?! One thing we agree on? Alan is amazing and needs to get better! Featuring- Kelly Macfarland, Tim McIntire, Val Kappa, and another comedy escapee, Melane Welch.

Vic and his dog Blood share a psychic link that help them survive as they rely on each others senses and instincts to find food, shelter, and women. It's episode 10, but really this is episode zero. The very first Bombing ever recorded and it was with a great comedian and great friend in comedy, Tim Mcintire. We talk Thursday Night Fights, dogs, joke stealing, the good old days and so much more. This was the talk that made me want to do more. Enjoy!
Marvel Studios’s Ant-Man opened in the United States this weekend, marking the first Marvel movie in years where non-geeks said, “Who?” So we decided to mark the occasion by bringing in comedians Tim McIntire and Benari Poulten (who guested on our Avengers: Age of Ultron episode), as well as comedian Ross Garmil, to talk about the […]
On this episode we watch the 1975 post apocalyptic buddy comedy about sexual assault, A Boy and His Dog. Artist, writer and comedian Daniel J. Hogan joins Paul and Chris to review this talking dog picture. Hogan’s Heroes references have been approved. Dolemite is a movie that is so bad it is good suggested by Chris. Dan suggests The Room because it fits in the genre of so bad it is good. He also suggests the Japanese horror film, House. Don Johnson is the star of A Boy and His Dog. Of course we all think he’s the dog. The director is L.Q. Jones, who typically played the sheriff in every TV show in the 80s. The upbeat music in this dark film was produced by the same actor that does the dog’s voice, Tim McIntire. What is the name of the character Don Johnson is playing, Vic or Albert? Paul thinks perhaps Michael Vick. The first show and we’re already talking about the Fleshlight. Oh nifty, you’ve stumbled onto a NSFW Wikipedia page. Perhaps Blood the dog is a precrime dog & Minority Report is a prequel to this film? Jason Robards plays the antagonist, an evil Committee member. Dan recommends you watch him in Once Upon a Time in the West. Does Don Johnson’s dream come true in the movie? No, instead they hook him up to a milking machine. This movie was only missing robots, oh wait. So many more references in the show, from The Brady Bunch & My Little Pony to Asimov’s Laws and the “contractually required mirror universe episode”. Enjoy the show. Catch Dan over at clattertron.com, danieljhogan.com and follow him on twitter, @danieljhogan. You can catch all 3 of them in this December 2013 episode of Montreal Sauce.
