The guys finally get around to Steve's Required Viewing pick, Deep Cover, a light British spy spoof not to be confused with the 1992 thriller of the same name starring Lawrence Fishburne (which was covered back in episode 385). Then they all discuss recent things they've watched, and the show wraps up with Ron and John enthusing about James Gunn's new take on Superman.

“Every mammal on this planet, instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment. But you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply- and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area.” – The Matrix Hugo Weaving's Mr. Smith lectures Lawrence Fishburne's Morpheus in The Matrix on humanity's fatal flaw. While history may paint a negative picture of our efforts, the future looks bright. That future is sustainability, a paradigm shift that promises to reshape our relationship with the environment and the resources we consume. This vision of sustainability is not just about preserving nature; it's about creating a healthier, more resilient world for future generations. The components of sustainability in the tech world include energy efficiency, waste reduction, water conservation, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable product design, and employee engagement. Energy efficiency: companies can optimize manufacturing processes to reduce energy consumption and developing products that are more energy-efficient to cut down operational costs and reduce the impact on the environmental impact. Waste reduction: comprehensive recycling programs, reducing material usage, and improving manufacturing processes, companies can minimize the environmental footprint of their operations and products. Water conservation: Implementing measures to recycle and reuse water to a point where every drop could be recaptured and reused. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions: This is where the bulk of the efforts can yield real benefits to lower carbon footprints, and reduce/reuse/recycle with ambitious goals of net-zero by 2040. Sustainable product design: there is a fine balance between creating energy-efficient and environmentally friendly products that meet regulatory standards and customer expectations, while also generating a reasonable rate of return for stakeholders. Employee engagement: Encouraging employees to participate in sustainability programs and providing training and resources to support those practices keep the environment front of mind while also pursuing the business of business. One company that exemplifies these principles is Microchip Technology. Their commitment to sustainability is evident in their comprehensive approach, known as Microchip 360° Sustainability. This includes energy efficiency, waste reduction, water conservation, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Their products, such as the PD77728 and PD-70228 ICs, are designed with the lowest power consumption in mind, and their packaging is 100% recyclable, PVC-free, halogen-free, and compliant with ROHS and REACH standards. The GS series of midspans takes this even further with improvements in key areas. Microchip's dedication to sustainability has not gone unnoticed. Forbes recently named them a Net Zero Leader, ranking them #6 on the list. This recognition highlights their leadership in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable practices. Companies like Microchip are taking real, tangible actions to protect the environment, conserve resources, and minimize waste.   How can Microchip Technology show real leadership in driving sustainability for future generations?   Links from the episode: Microchip's Commitment to Sustainability: Operational Excellence and Innovative Customer Solutions | Microchip Technology microchip.com/poe   Guest: Alan Zwiren

We chat about his family, and what made him decide to get into show business. We trade Hollywood stories; although he has many, MANY more! We take a little detour, when Spencer tells me what he was doing between college and acting; while working in Washington D.C. Next we Talk about how and why he studied with Sanford (Sandy) Meisner, and how Spencer came to be in several of Emilio Estevez's film projects. From behind the scenes on some of the greatest films ever made, to some fun down time with Mike Nichols, and Dustin Hoffman; Spencer is full of stories. I ask Spencer about his involvement in the super popular scripted fiction podcast called America 2.0, and he hints there may be more on the horizon. That leads into an unbelievable story about a group of character actors who meet every month for dinner and have a BLAST together. The CADS, is a group of like-minded actors including: Michael McKean, Lawrence Fishburne, Steven Weber, Titus Welliver, Kevin Pollak, Richard Kind, and so many more! I want to attend this dinner just once!!. Make sure you check out Spencer in the upcoming Korean spy thriller on Disney+ called Tempest (2025), and tell him you heard him on Fascination Street Podcast!

This week we take a boat up a river as more and more crazy things happen and we descend into madness and succumb to the bliss of mindless bloodshed. JUST KIDDING - But we are reviewing Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 masterpiece Apocalypse Now. Loosely based on the novella 'Heart of Darkness' by Joseph Conrad (Which we didn't even MENTION what were we even DOING), this film follows Captain Benjamin Willard (Martin Sheen) and crew on a journey from South Vietnam into Cambodia, on a top secret mission to terminate the command of a disgruntled and presumed insane military officer, Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando). Featuring other big names such as Robert Duvall, Lawrence Fishburne and Harrison Ford, this film is a visual masterpiece and a pillar of filmmaking. But... This week DtW is going Deep Cover on the incognito tip! Dan and Raul travel back in time but stay in the state of CA for a 90s crime drama with a famous theme song. Lawrence Fishburne, going by Larry back when Deep Cover came out in 1992, plays a cop who saw his stickup thief father shot down while criming and has devoted himself to the law. However, in this exaggerated 90s Los Angeles crack game, he's been assigned to put his morality aside and lean into the crazy characters and costumes of this sordid street parable. Does this count as a legit crime classic with an early gangsta rap feel or is it a mishmash of cultural curiosities from the time? WALTER MOSLEY - CWA DIAMOND DAGGER WINNER - chats to Paul Burke about EVERY MAN A KING, his writing, his characters, personal inspiration, American politics, good thoughts for writers and hope & belief. The most prestigious Dagger of all, the Diamond Dagger is for a lifetime contribution to crime writing in the English language and is nominated by CWA members.WALTER MOSLEY was born in LA in 1952. His African-American father Leroy from Louisiana joined the great migration north. His mother Ella, of Russian Jewish descent, was politically engaged which resonates in Mosley's work.  Mosley took up writing at 34 with Gone Fishin' but it was Devil in a Blue Dress that was first published to acclaim in 1990, winning the John Creasey New Blood Dagger in 1991. Set in LA in 1948, Easy Rawlins is facing a murder charge when he takes a job searching for a white woman. Then stone-cold killer Mouse arrives from Houston, he's more terrifying than any of the chiselled giants in Mosley's novels. Devil in a Blue Dress was filmed in 1995 starring Denzil Washington as Easy and Jennifer Beal as Mosley's first femme fatale Daphne Monet, Don Cheadle chills the blood as Mouse. Yet there are too few screen incarnations of Mosley books. Lawrence Fishburne played Socrates Fortlow in 1998's Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned and The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey starring Samuel Jackson appeared on Apple TV+ in 2022. Mosley has worked as a scriptwriter on, amongst other shows, Snowfall, 2018, and Star Trek Discovery, 2019. In all Mosley has written 60+ books; crime, literary, sci-fi and erotic fiction, two graphic novels, two plays, short stories and six nonfiction titles. He has often written features for the New Yorker and The Nation.Mosley's fiction centres on irresistibly engaging antiheroes, one would be an achievement but five such is remarkable - PI Easy Rawlins (15 novels), ex-con Socrates Fortlow (3), New York bad man making amends Leonid McGill (6), Fearless Jones (3) and ex-cop Joe King Oliver (2). The novels are about race, rampant capitalism and inequality in American society. Mosley lives in LA and Brooklyn and engages with the history of both places. He chronicles America, post-WWII to the present day, the story of African-American America and the lives of the poorest people in society. Mosley has received acclaim throughout his career including the Mystery Writers of America Grand Master Award in 2016. Down the River unto the Sea, 2018, won an Edgar the following year and Mosley was the first black male recipient of the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters in 2020. There's also the PEN America Lifetime Achievement Award, the NAACP Image Award (3 times) and a Grammy and this list is by no means exhaustive. In June 2018 Mosley with Kellye Garrett and Gigi Pandian set up Crime Writers of Color, a collective for authors from underrepresented backgrounds, now with over 350 members internationally. The organisation won the prestigious Raven Award from the Mystery Writers of America at the Edgars in April. He has no intention of putting down his pen...Recommendations Killer Of Sheep - D. There's a moment in the opening sequence of JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4 where Lawrence Fishburne facilitates a ripoff of a shot in LAWRENCE OF ARABIA. Yes, THAT shot. The most iconic in the movie and one of the most iconic in film history. No spoilers, obviously. Of course, director Chad Stahelski knows he's aping one of the all-time grand epics. But that's the point. That shot points his metaphorical bat to right-center field, and such as Babe Ruth did, it signals the home run to come. I speak not in hyperbole, because this is one of the rare occasions where grandiosity is earned. Taking the legendary hitman John Wick (Keanu Reeves) through a ballet of death on an odyssey of freedom leads to a movie that simply overwhelms with how many pieces whiz and crash and break around its hero, and do so to a masterfully maximalist degree. The beauty is undeniable. The action dropped my jaw and held it there. At the end of it all, it's very simple: JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4 is one of the greatest movies ever made. --------------------------- Closing Song: "Lights Out Little Hustler" - Samiam --------------------------- Review THE MOVIES on Apple Podcasts & I'll read it on the next episode! --------------------------- Follow Daniel on: Twitter - @TheMovies_Pod Instagram - @themoviespod Letterboxd - https://letterboxd.com/Daniel_Berrios/ --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/themoviespodcast/message

In todays Too Posh Gossip Column episode we welcome Liv and Berkley and right off the bat we learn some very juicy gossip about a famous NFL Football Star that was dating Berkley.Let us know if you can figure out who she is talking about by the hints they give. He was thrown out of very prestigious hotels in Dallas and had to resort to stay at a LaQuinta instead. Berkley says it was like a crack motel and she tells us what happened there. Then the girls talk about a fun trip on a private jet from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. They checked into the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Beverly Hills and were driven around in lifted G-wagons, Rolls Royce and Maybach cars. They surely know how to live life to the fullest and have a blast while they are at it. They went to the opening night of the Nightingale nightclub and saw Odell Beckham Jr, JZ, Rihanna etc etc - all the celebrities and sports athletes - the event was sponsored by Ciroc and Ace of Spade. Liv says it is one of the best clubs she has ever been to. Lawrence Fishburne who played Morpheus in the Matrix was there sitting in a black trench coat, sunglasses on.Then they talk about the yellow ball hosted by the Sadie Keller Foundation in Dallas and that they raise a lot of money for childhood cancer. Berkley gets very passionate about "crybaby men" that expect more from her after going out for a date. She doesn't always feel a spark. The last one that did that had to learn the hard way as she posted his whiny conversation on social media for everyone to see. Then she tells us about a recent Las Vegas trip where the guy she was with won a jackpot on a slot machine for $ 100.000 with her lucky crystal. We learn about a guy that wanted to take Berkley to a funeral as his date and she went and how awkward that was. To end the show it gets super juicy as Marcella talks about a guy that flew her to California and then ghosted her at the airport. This then leads to Berkley telling us about a guy (SAME GUY who Marcella talked about ) that took her on a first date and she fell and cracked her head open and had to go to the ER - she couldn't get pain medicine because she had been drinking. This all started when they were at The Gin Bar in Prosper Texas and the whole bar was invited back to the guys house for a huge after party. She needed an MRI and staples in her head and the bill was $ 4000 that the guy did not pay. The collection agencies still come after her for this. IMPORTANT SIDENOTE: Stay tuned to the continuation of this story as Berkley will come on as a guest and tell the entire story of her relationship with this guy who happened to be Marcella's boyfriend at the time. A whole saga of betrayal, lies, manipulation, cheating and more ..............

Lawrence Fishburne stars in this urban crime thriller as an undercover cover working his way up the drug trade around Los Angeles before he eventually goes TOO deep….hence the title.  Jeff Goldblum also co-stars as a local drug lawyer who he becomes partnered with – both actors give among the best performances of their respective careers in a film which just turned 30 but still holds up as of the best mob/gangster movies of the 1990's.  It was directed by Bill Duke and also features one of the most popular hip hop soundtracks of its era….including the title track which showcases the studio debut of Snoop Dogg.
