Logo theme by: Gail NoblesArt by: Gail NoblesAaliyah lived to make two movies. They were Queen of the Damned & Romeo Must Die. My favorite movie was Romeo Must Die starring Jet Li and Aaliyah. The movie led me to think Aaliyah would eventually star in martial art movies if she had lived. I can see her in my mind now. She might would have made a Blaxploitation film in the 2000's in Kung Fu action after Romeo Must Die. Blaxploitation films were made in the early 1970s. Some of the Blaxploitation female Kung Fu action movies that were made are Cleopatra Jones & TNT Jackson. In modern times like we live in, I believe Aaliyah could have been an even better Kung Fu action lady in films. I believe she could have made some big smash hit movies along with her music if she had been alive today. In Romeo Must Die, I saw some great strength in Aaliyah working on her fight scene with Jet Li. She made me think of Foxy Brown when I saw her shooting a gun near the end of the movie. Aaliyah had her hair covering one eye. That was a good idea. It has been said that it was Aaliyah's mother's idea and thought it would be a signature style that would set Aaliyah apart from other artists. And I think it did. Aaliyah had her own style in clothing. She probably would have had her own Kung Fu outfits if she had made Kung Fu movies. I saw a clip of Aaliyah trying on a robe in Japan back in 1996. If you knew Aaliyah, she believed in adding what she called Flava (flavor). There's one more thing I saw in Aaliyah. If she had lived, she might - might would have became a director or producer in film & in music after some years. It has been said that she had a 4.0 G.P.A. in school. It looked as if Aaliyah could have been her own dance choreographer too. After all, she knew how to dance anyway. She was around all of the things she could have became, & I know she was probably learning it all. It's sad that Aaliyah's life was cut short. God didn't give all that talent & ability to Aaliyah for nothing. I do not believe it was intended for her to go. But I guess we can say she paved the way for others.I'm Gail Nobles. Today's topic: My Picturization of Aaliyah.

It's time for Django Nudo and the Smut Peddler to head to the celluloid ghetto, as they unearth some sweet, sweet Blaxploitation classics. Included here is every type of genre: gangster, women-in-prison, war, thriller, western, motorcycle films and more. "Black Rebels" (1960/1965) - Delinquents! Drugs! Interracial Violence! And - yipes! - Topless Sex Scenes! Yes, kiddies, here's another excellent ·but forgotten B-movie, full of racial tension and a couple of big name stars, turned into Sixties Sexploitation via nudie-movie inserts. "Black Brigade" (1970) - Made-for-television war drama with an impressive African-American film cast: Richard Pryor, Rosey Grier, Robert Hooks, Moses Gunn and Billy Dee Williams. A redneck officer is put in charge of a squad of all black troops charged with the mission of securing an important hydro dam in Nazi Germany. "Black Angels" (1970) - This loopy yet cynical biker flick about a white motorcycle gang vs. a black motorcycle gang that's jam packed with absurdities, semi-authenticities, and even some ass-kickin' action."The Black Alley Cats" (1972) - An interracial bevy of beautiesbecome the Black Alley Cats - an ebony and ivory female vigilante group that robs from the rich and gives to the poor. They even force Uschi Digard and two other white chicks to have sex with the token black guy at the party: "You want to integrate? You're gonna integrate!" These Cats have political claws in their sexual paws!"The Spook Who Sat by the Door" (1973) - A secret black nationalist is trained by the CIA and later trains and leads black freedom fighters in an uprising against the U.S. government. 70s spy thriller meets Blaxploitation!"Black Mama White Mama" (1973) - This women-in-prison film unites Pam Grier and Margaret Markov in a feminist/blaxploitation version of "The Defiant Ones" (1958). Cemented Grier's status as female action icon and Queen of Blaxploitation cinema. "TNT Jackson" (1974) - Jean Bell was only the second-ever African-American centrefold when she appeared in the October 1969 Playboy issue. Here she kicks kung-fu ass in yet another Blaxploition hybrid as the eponymous T.N.T. IMDB review: “This is so '70s bad Far Eastern martial arts meets black power that it hurts, but boy it hurts so good! I am ashamed to admit that I almost enjoyed it.”"The Black Godfather" (1974) - Typical gangster/guns/ghetto theme for a blaxploitation movie, where the black hero/thug/anti-hero takes on the bad white mob/drug dealers/cops! Rod Perry just one of many Black sports stars who crossed over to acting. "Joshua (Black Rider)" (1976) - Western Blaxploitation is which Fred Williamson is Union soldier turned bounty hunter, who hunts down the thugs that killed his family. Fun fact, in 1973 Williamson posed nude for Playgirl magazine and was known as The Hammer form NFL."Mean Johnny Barrows" (1976) - Produced, directed by and staring Fred Williamson this pre-Rambo films sees a Mafia war between the Da Vinci and Racconi family. Time for Johnny to step in. Don't miss our cool Spotify Blaxploitation playlist.

Whitney could have played many female characters. She had personality. Whitney Houston was heading more for movies in her singing career. Her first movie was the Bodyguard in 1992. It was a box office hit. Whitney always looked like an action film kind of woman to me. I think it would have been exciting to see Whitney in a Kung Fu kind of film. She probably would have had to take some Kung Fu lessons which I believe would have been good to learn because Kung Fu isn't just about fighting. It teaches self discipline. And maybe Whitney could have done a remake of the TNT Jackson movie starring Jeanne Bell. The film is about Diana Jackson (aka TNT) who learns her brother is missing. She suspects a powerful gangster and his friends are behind the disappearance. Determined to get at the truth, she goes to Hong Kong, and along with a friend named Joe, wages was on the criminal gang she's out to nail.In real life, it is said that Whitney Houston knew how to fight. If she had played the role of TNT Jackson, she would have known what it was like to have a brother because she had two. And she would have known something about fighting. In real life, Whitney Houston knew about business, and she knew how dirty it could be. In the film TNT Jackson, she probably wouldn't have had any problems acting out some of the parts. Like TNT, Whitney would let you know what she was about. And sometimes very frank. The character TNT Jackson was angry and went after the smooth talking bad guy that you just heard in the clip.Whitney Houston knew all about men too. The bad guy in film is actor Stan Shaw playing as Charlie. Whitney would have gotten a lot of exercise if she had played in a Kung Fu film. T and Charlie fought up and down a staircase. There was blood and lots of kicking and rolling on the floor. TNT Jackson is a1974 Blaxploitation.Well, T fought Charlie and killed him. He fell to the floor and laid still and his vision became blurred. TNT Jackson stood over him starring and that was the end of the movie. (Singing I Learned From the Best)“ Baby I learned the way to break a heart .I learned from the best.I learned …I learned from you.”If Whitney Houston would have done the remake of TNT Jackson, I'm sure there would have been a more up to date version. Who knows, it might would have been a bigger hit if Whitney had remade the film. On top of that, Whitney was already a star. She was every woman with the big hair do's and the small ones. I loved her big Afro in her video “I Learned From the Best”. I Learned From the Best is a song that might would have played at the end of a film like TNT Jackson. I'm Gail Nobles, and you're listening to the Whitney Soul Podcast. Today's topic: WH and the Character TNT Jackson
Billed as "the screen's first erotic kung-fu classic", FIRECRACKER stars RAW FORCE's Jillian Kesner as a butt-kicking karate expert who travels to Hong Kong (actually the Philippines) to track down her journalist sister who recently vanished. Featuring topless fight scenes, stick fighting and, of course, Vic Diaz as "Grip". Essentially a remake of TNT JACKSON (which director Cirio H. Santiago would remake again in 1992 as ANGELFIST), FIRECRACKER is extremely silly, but is it any fun? Listen to the latest episode of WHATEVER HAPPENED TO VIC DIAZ and find out! If you follow the podcast, this movie might seem a little familiar to you as its absolutely the same movie as Firecracker. The primary difference? A Playboy Playmate who has absolutely no business doing karate. You'll probably realize very quickly upon view is that this might be the worst kung fu you've ever seen. It has to be. There can't be worse. Jeannie Bell is mind-boggling. She moves like a wet towel. And she's not alone. Filipino comedian, Chiquito (whom I guess is worthy of a singular name?) is in a race to be declared worst. It's really up for debate who is less athletic. If you can find us a movie with worse martial arts in it, we'd love to see it. While Jeannie Bell's athleticism is abhorrable it's absolutely a blast to watch. Buckle up for some belly laughs but also expect her to do a very bad job of replicating Pam Grier, all while looking super hot. Without Bell, this movie goes in the bin. She's a bad movie star, baby! Sadly, her career didn't work out for us. And yes, it's exactly the same movie as Firecracker and Angelfist. But really, this is worthy of a view in it's own right. There's enough difference to make it palatable and showing up just for the terrible martial arts is enough right there. It's a do from us.
A young karate expert searches for her brother's killer in Hong Kong.
Well even though it had a thin plot, terrible acting, even worse fight scenes, and an amateur attempt at blacksploitation. TNT Jackson turned out to be a movie where it was so bad and awkward that it was almost endearing. Call it so bad that it's entertaining. Listen to the full review to see what we really thought of this dynamite movie. This has been Alex and Will and we will talk to you soon!
We're back with a LOST EPISODE!!! It's Firecracker! Originally billed as the world's first "erotic martial arts classic." Listen in as our intrepid hosts discover it's neither erotic nor a classic. It's actually a loose remake of TNT Jackson. It does star the fantastic Jillian Kesner and features a score from an entirely different movie (that got the producers in some trouble later on). It's nothing but high kickin', gut punchin', eye gougin' non-stop action with Firecracker!!!
This week Lee and Daniel take a look at two blaxploitation films with a female lead that don't star Pam Grier (don't worry, they'll eventually get to her as well). Up for review first is the Bondish "Cleopatra Jones" (1973), and then the cheap, chopsocky cash-in "TNT Jackson" (1974). Listener comments are also covered. This one is a bit more of a casual episode again -- short and sweet and hard to defeat. Take a hard line and you'll have a bad time. Turn that frown upside down or you'll enter demolition town. It has kicks to the head that will leave you dead. Okay, we'll stop now. "Cleopatra Jones" IMDB "TNT Jackson" IMDB Featured Music: "The Wrecking Yard" and "The Theme from Cleopatra Jones" by J. J. Johnson.
On this episode of the Really Awful Movies Podcast, we look at the fantastic Death Force. It's by Cirio Santiago, the extremely prolific Filipino director. It's put out by Vinegar Syndrome, known for 70s Blaxploitation and horror. We had the pleasure of hanging with the VS guys at London's Shock Stock horror festival. Death Force combines Blaxsploitation and vetsploitation with the Samurai and mafia genres, successfully at times, unsuccessfully at others. Hilariously goofy fun as only a 70s film could be. We talk about the movie and our love for cheap films shot in the Philippines. We've previously looked at Firecracker and TNT Jackson.
