On their weekly Penn State football show, Post-Gazette and Daily Collegian insider Seth Engle joins host Adam Bittner to discuss offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich's comments with reporters Tuesday. Is the connection between quarterback Drew Allar and receivers including Dante Cephas, Malik McClain and Omari Evans really "a big concern," as Yurcich stated? Is Allar or the receiving corps the bigger issue in getting things figured out? Is transfer running back Trey Potts a thread to playing time for star running backs Kaytron Allen or Nick Singleton? And why is defensive coordinator Manny Diaz sounding confident about his unit? Our duo tackles those topics, ponders strong starts by Nittany Lion opponents West Virginia and Maryland and tries to piece together why former basketball star Ross Travis was spotted in Taylor Swift's suite for the Jets-Chiefs game this past Sunday at MetLife Stadium.

The Nittany Lions used 19 carries from Kaytron Allen and three touchdowns from Nick Singleton to power their way to a blowout victory. In a flip of last week, quarterback Drew Allar played a support role to the running game. Want to know how it all happened? The show goes live at the conclusion of the game so subscribe to the BWI YouTube channel and enable notifications so you can get notifications of all our live shows. Penn State running game leads the way Thanks to the style of play from the Delaware defense, Penn State's running game led the way on Saturday. Penn State's top two runners of Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen had 31 combined carries, 150 yards and four touchdowns to lead the offense. Overall, the Penn State offense rushed for nearly 300 yards on the day, with Trey Potts and Beau Pribula getting plenty of action in the third and fourth quarters. Allar was efficient on the day, completing 22 of 29 passes for 204 yards and one rushing touchdown from the goal line. Allar was patient on the day but didn't hit many explosive passing plays, with a long of 26 yards. Defense is almost lights out The Penn State defense dominated almost every drive, the way you'd expect with a matchup like this against an FCS opponent. The defense had five three-and-outs before the middle of the fourth quarter when the backups entered the game. An offsides on a punt extended one other drive. KJ Winston turned up the heat just after halftime when he picked up a forced fumble caused by fellow safety Keaton Ellis. Later, backup linebacker Dom DeLuca intercepted a pass for a touchdown to put a fine point on his day. DeLuca had a near interception several drives earlier in the third quarter. What's next? Penn State faces Illinois on next Saturday for its second noon kick. Illinois lost to Kansas 34-23 on Thursday night. It's the Big Ten opener for the Nittany Lions, who have opened Big Ten play on the road once again. Do you want to discuss today's game or the upcoming game? Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube: https://bit.ly/3KzEcqK Penn State football held its first open fall practice under head coach James Franklin on Saturday evening. The BWI Live crew discusses the environment and the mood on Saturday night, then breaks down what they saw and who stood out during the two-hour event. Check out the show at 10 am EST on YouTube and subscribe to Blue White Illustrated's YouTube Channel so you don't miss any breakdowns of training camp and the 2023 season. Penn State camp strikes the right mood Despite the weather, the environment for fans at Saturday night's practice was perfect. What did Penn State do to put on a good show for fans? Greg Pickel discusses what he liked about the setup and how he thinks fans should consider attending next year if the team decides to do another event like this. However, the weather was a significant factor on Saturday night, with driving rain that lasted most of the time the players were on the field. The show discusses how that impacted the event. It was also the first time that Pickel or anyone on the show had seen a full Penn State practice before. Pickel describes what the day was like and how structured head coach James Franklin's event was. He also makes a comment about what practice, outside of the scrimmage, is like for fans that didn't attend. Scrimmage takeaways Next, the BWI Live show recaps the players and units that stood out during the competition portion of practice. Penn State put on a show for fans, working with the first-team defense against the first-team offense. The defense dominated a large portion of the scrimmage, and Pickel breaks down which players stood out to him, including new transfer running back Trey Potts. But the defensive line was the night's story, with several players up front shutting down the Penn State offensive attack during the situational work. With veterans getting a rest after the first few drives, young defenders like King Mack, Tony Rojas, and others stepped up and made plenty of plays. Find out which other units and players were under the spotlight during the scrimmage. Penn State will open the doors of Lasch again this evening for players and coaches to speak with the media. Tune into the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel to hear James Franklin's comments after practice and follow along for updates from training camp as the team head wraps up its second full week. Penn Stated: Talking Penn State Football with Donnie Collins
College days have been on the mind of Penn Stated podcast host Donnie Collins lately. His are long behind him, as the seemingly monthly trips to visit campuses with his son -- who will be going away to college in the fall -- remind him. And this week's episode of the podcast is a tribute to the memories made during Collins' college days. With the help of his old college friend and current Williamsport Sun Gazette icon Chris Masse, one of the top prep sports reporters in the state, Donnie delves into what he feels is a key development in Penn State's offseason roster build: The transfer portal addition of former Williamsport running back Trey Potts this week. Nobody followed Potts' high school career better than Masse, and they discuss Potts' importance and potential impact. But, they also remember the old days at Penn State in the late 1990s, which included what in their mind could be the greatest football game ever played on campus at Penn State. (Certainly, it is in their minds.)Donnie also discusses his top College Towns in the Big Ten, based on a recent report that lists Ann Arbor, Mich., at the top and Lincoln, Neb., at the bottom of the list. Needless to say, Donnie feels that list is...a little off.To contact Donnie, drop an email at dcollins@timesshamrock.com, or send him a message on Twitter @PennStateTT.Listen and subscribe on Apple podcastsListen and subscribe on Google podcastsListen and subscribe on Spotify

The old crusty duo of Todd and Jon are together this week for an episode of the Five Heart Podcast! This episode includes a review of a great game with Michigan. The duo try not to talk too much about the officiating and feel that it took away from what was an incredible game between two pretty evenly matched teams. Todd was at the Michigan game and gives a full report what it was like at Memorial Stadium. Jon was at a wedding and gives a somewhat weird report on that. Todd and Jon give you a preview of this year's Minnesota Gopher team. The Gophers are down two running backs - Mo Ibrahim and Trey Potts. Introduction: On the first segment of Tuesday Morning Nickelback, Vikings writer Andrew Krammer joins host Michael Rand for a film review segment looking back at Sunday's 14-7 loss to the Browns. Familiar problems resurfaced quickly in that game. Namely: Any team with a stout front four that can get pressure without sending extra rushers is going to have success against most teams. But it's particularly problematic for the Vikings because of their offensive line deficiencies and Kirk Cousins' inability to improvise. 12:00: Keith Richotte joins for My Least Favorite Team is My Favorite Team, where he and Rand start talking about best possible outcomes for the 1-3 Vikings. Barring a level of consistency we haven't seen yet this year, and keeping in mind a tough remaining 13 games, it seems as though getting back into the playoff mix and maybe getting in as a low seed is the highest this team can aim. If you're a fan, you want to see victories. Intellectually, a complete teardown might make more sense. 26:00: Gophers football writer Randy Johnson joins the show to look back at Saturday's win in the rain at Purdue and to provide an update on running back Trey Potts, who stayed behind in Indiana with an unspecified ailment. 37:00: What if these Tuesday shows were called Village Idiot instead of Tuesday Morning Nickelback?
