Minuit, 2024

In this episode of the Epigenetics Podcast, we talked with Karine Le Roch from the University of California at Riverside about her work on malaria chromatin structure and its transcriptional regulation. In this Interview Dr. Le Roch discusses her investigation of post-transcriptional controls and nucleosome positioning in Plasmodium falciparum, employing next-generation sequencing and chromatin profiling methods. Karin emphasizes how these methodologies contribute to a comprehensive understanding of gene regulation beyond mere transcription initiation, emphasizing the significance of mRNA binding proteins and their role in stabilizing gene transcripts for translation. This exploration of the interaction between chromatin structure, transcriptional dynamics, and post-transcriptional regulation reveals a multidimensional perspective of gene expression. Transitioning to her lab's focus on high-throughput genomic technologies, we discuss how Karin and her team are uncovering conserved and species-specific genomic organization principles within various Plasmodium species. By generating 3D genomic models through Hi-C experiments, she describes how they have identified patterns that underline the parasite's immune evasion strategies. In particular, we learn how genes involved in antigenic variation are controlled through intricate epigenetic mechanisms, illuminating the pathways that allow these parasites to elude host immune responses.   References Le Roch, K. Josh was saved in prison and devoted his life to Christ, but after his release, found himself navigating disappointment in church institutions. Joshua shares wisdom that everyone can learn from.  He has faced loss and hardship, yet found hope in the midst of the wild ride. His music shares about the transformation and calling he has found in Christ, and also the familial community he has found in HOG MOB Ministries.   Neighbor's Table Podcast aims to facilitate restorative conversation around the realities of criminal justice and mass incarceration. Our prayer is that the church in America would know how to enter into these conversations, and that movement would start with listening to our neighbors. Something powerful happens when people listen to one another. We hope that love of neighbor leads to advocacy for those that society overlooks.   We offer a full day Liminal Learning experience that walks through the history of the criminal justice system, juxtaposed to the restorative justice model of Jesus. On Sunday, the Tour de France will return to Le Puy de Dôme for the first time in 35 years. The volcano in the Massif Central was first visited by the race in 1952. Fausto Coppi, who had won the Tour's first-ever summit finish at Alpe d'Huez a couple of weeks earlier, took the stage. In 1964, it was the scene of a famous duel between Jacques Anquetil and Raymond Poulidor as the two brushed shoulders in their battle for the yellow jersey. Eleven years later, in 1975, a spectator punched Eddy Merckx which effectively ended the Belgian's long reign as the undisputed best rider in the world. The final visit, in 1988, saw a win by Denmark's Johnny Weltz but after the stage there was chaos with tens of thousands of fans trying to get off the mountain. A funicular railway was installed, narrowing the road and the climb was closed even to amateur cyclists making it very difficult for the Tour to return. But race director, Christian Prudhomme has long harboured a dream to take the Tour back. Even though the climb will be closed to spectators, it promises to be a special day. In this episode we hear from Prudhomme, local rider Remi Cavagna of Soudal-Quick Step, climber Dan Martin and the last man to win on the volcano, Johnny Weltz.

After a brief discussion of Corbucci's life and cinematic influence, they'll get into what makes Corbucci's villains unique, the skill of his camera operators, and Telly Savalas' role in the film. This movie is the reason the West was called wild! Next, in Fernando di Leo's Mister Scarface, a mob loan collector hatches a plan to steal millions from Video Archives favorite Jack Palance. This is revenge, Italian style! Roger & Quentin talk sans spoilers about the movie, discussing the elaborate, strange and goofy action sequences. Don Prudhomme When you meet Don ‘The Snake' Prudhomme in person, he exudes a calm, composed and warm vibe with no indication of what he did for a living. The reality is he is one of the fastest men alive, with four NHRA FC Championships to his name, as well as being the first Funny Car driver to exceed 250mph!Global recognition came not just to Don, but to Drag racing in general, when he and Hot Wheels team-mate Tom McEwen became the Snake and Mongoose rivals. The toy versions of their race cars were equally as coveted by a whole generation of young fans, and no doubt propelled everyone involved to fame and fortune.I arranged to meet Don at our mutual friend Bruce Meyers garage in Beverly Hills, as Bruce owns one of the significant cars from his career, and we thought it would be a great backdrop for the portrait. As it happens, Bruce joined in the conversation which made it only better!Admittedly I know little about this form of motorsport, but my respect for people that push the limits of speed is immense and to have lived life on that fine line makes Don a real hero to me.Now I want to have a go….!JB

He can play a trumpet call well enough to fool 90% of the hunters in the woods into thinking he is a real hen. Mark is a great turkey call maker in addition to a champion turkey caller.
