The Fair Chase podcast is back, and we're diving into our wild bison hunt with Jordan Parham, our ace videographer. Fresh off releasing Frozen Arrow, we unpack the chaos of bowhunting bison in brutal -30°F South Dakota winds. Jordan talks about filming in frostbite conditions, juggling cameras, and capturing a rare pass-through shot that stunned our guide. We break down the hunt's highs, lows, and why bison are tougher than nails.   As we plan a grizzly hunt, Jordan shares how we balance epic adventures with creative storytelling for brands like Kifaru. If you love behind-the-scenes banter and gear talk, this one's a must-listen.   We also cover:  - The bison that shrugged off heart shots like it was nothing  - Freezing cameras, numb fingers, and fighting mental fog  - Packing smarter for grizzly hunts (zip-off pants, anyone?)  - The art of filming hunts without spooking the quarry   Follow us here: https://www.instagram.com/thefairchase/ https://www.facebook.com/fairchaseofficial/ https://www.linkedin.com/company/thefairchase/ https://x.com/TheFairChase1    SAVE 30% on TUO Gear! Houndsmen have had their futures and breeding programs altered, changed the way they hunt, changed areas they hunt, even moved their families to new areas of the country hundreds of miles away all because of the wolf. The Foundation For Wildlife Management (f4wm) is a group that is taking on the weaponized, politicized and mischaracterized issue of the invasion and impact of the Canadian Grey Wolf in the Northern Rocky Mountain Region. Justin Webb is the CEO for the f4wm. Justin saw the impact the wolf was making on native wildlife populations, how it was affecting recreation opportunities and destroying hunting opportunities in areas that were once teeming with wildlife. He was not willing accept that. He recognized that the wolf is a project that is weaponized by the anti hunting community, a political hot potato and was being forced down the throat of every hunter. His efforts have created an organization that has taken the issue straight on. The f4wm has worked with many sporting organizations and wildlife managers to put aggressive management plans in place that has reduced wolf numbers by over 1600 wolves and paid out over $1 million in reimbursement to hunters and trappers taking wolves. This is a must listen podcast for every Houndsman that is serious about preserving our lifestyle. In this Episode I talk to Thomas Baumeister of "Access WILD" and "Orion - The hunters Institute" about the question of hunting and the way in which hunters can develop an ethical framework. We begin our conversation with a brief reminder of the four ways  in which society generally values wildlife  (Traditionalist, Mutualist, Pluralist, and Distanced). We then outline the ways in which hunters and anti-hunters can be be classified. We then turn our attention to "ethics" and the ways in which ethical philosophy can be applied to the question of hunting. Thomas then explains whether killing an animal can be ethically justified, and we discuss the concept of "moral residue".We then turn our attention to "Fair Chase", first by defining it, and then by examining its origins. I then ask Thomas about "optimizing advantage" - the idea that hunting can be neither too easy, nor too difficult. We then discuss the importance of the hunting experience, and the way in which moral residue is an important part of the hunting experience. Thanks for listening to the Fat Bird, Ugly Dog Podcast. I hope you enjoy this episode.

Smart as he may have been, nearly everything ol' Grandad taught about fair chase hunting ethics originated in the late-1800s when yesteryear hunters formed the venerable Boone and Crockett Club. Their forever vision didn't stop there. Backbone of the North America Model of Wildlife Conservation, Boone and Crockett helped set aside millions of acres in perpetuity, brought hunters-as-conservationists into mainstream American conciousness, worked to establish the world's most enviable collection of wildlife-minded legislation, and formed other wildlife conservation organizations to include Ducks Unlimited. Tony Schoonen and Luke Coccoli colorfully describe 137 years of roll-up-your-sleeves-and-get-'er-done milestones that transformed America into an amazing place to hunt wild animals. Beyond coonskin caps and record books, our ancestors realized we were "borrowing from future generations," and did something about it. Do we have what it takes to continue what they started?
