Management is more focused on what needs to be accomplished. Both Leadership and Management skills are crucial for any Manager/Leader. Richard wrote an article entitled "Four things that good leaders do when facing obstacles that bad leaders don't" talking about leaders shedding light on people's fears and worries. A coach helps make someone makes sense of their world. Many leaders are micromanagers, but that doesn't tend to work out well. Both sides will feel frustrated. There are three levels of delegation. Assigning someone a simple task Assigning someone a project, having them come up with a plan, and discuss that plan with you before moving forward Assigning someone a project and letting them have full responsibility It's helpful to learn about each other and go through these delegation levels to gain insight into what works, what doesn't, and how we approach things. Richard believes in assuming the best and working from that perspective, rather than having someone earn that trust. If you're not giving your trust initially, you're giving them distrust. Personality tests help us give names to things, to think about the way we are, how we think, how we make decisions, how we work with others, and how we differ from others. It may not be as black and white as what's found in the test results, but it helps us have a language to understand our different approaches and how we can approach things together. In today's episode, Jason's text community asks for advice on how to step away from the pressure of running their business and focus on downtime. If you're an entrepreneur who feels almost burnt out, working 24/7 non-stop while chasing success, this episode is for you.   3 KEY POINTS: Entrepreneurship is a marathon, not a sprint. You have no control over your circumstances, but you do have control over your thoughts. Amy P. asks "How do you not feel like you need to be working in your business 24/7 so you can prioritize some downtime?" Jason was part of a mastermind group called 2CCX Mastermind with Russell Brunson. Here, Jason's mindset Coach, Lindsey, was using a framework that was really common in the therapy and coaching space: "Your circumstances influence your thoughts. Your thoughts impact how you feel emotionally. How you feel emotionally is going to have a lot of control over the actions you take." You have no control over your circumstances, but you have control over your thoughts. You have to have a really solid mindset to be doing anything that is extraordinary in life. You don't need to achieve everything in such a short window. Spread out your timeline a bit farther and give yourself more downtime in the in-betweens. If you're hitting 80-85% of what you would generally target, you're on the right trajectory and can make improvements to reach higher. A similar question from Noreen, another text community member, is "How do I get comfortable stepping away from my clinic?" People commonly think that no one can do what they do as well as they can. If you're hiring the right people, that won't happen. Hire people who can do 80-85% of what you would normally do in terms of quality and standard. Let go of the thought that only you can do it the best. Have the proper training, systems, and procedures in place to delegate responsibilities while you're away. In this episode, Jason runs us through a step-by-step calculation to determine whether or not an expensive purchase is worth it. The more information you gather, the better your decision-making.   EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: Jason features a question from his text community. The inquirer recently opened a MedSpa and is looking to purchase expensive equipment. They're wondering if now would be the right time to continue with that purchase. Purchasing the equipment will add five additional services to what they can offer, there are no consumables related to those offers, and they can buy the laser at a discount. For these cases, Jason recommends going back to the numbers. Typically, you don't want to finance anything that loses you money. However, in business, if you can buy something and pay for it over time while it makes you money, it's called Leveraging. You can look up free Amortization Calculators on Google. Don't focus so much on that big number. Instead, focus on the monthly payments and the number of patients required to execute and pay for this particular device. The first rule of business is to use Leverage to grow your business and your income. The calculations discussed throughout the episode are as follows. These are based on hypothetical numbers only. The Laser is worth $180,000 20% discount --> 144,000 10% Downpayment = 14,400 Total Remaining Balance = $129,600 10 years for the loan term 5% interest rate Estimated monthly payment = $1,400 per month Extra cost for maintenance or electricity = $300 per month Monthly cost = $1,700 Five additional services upon acquiring the equipment Each service would cost, on average = $250 7 Treatments are needed in order to break the cost of the equipment Each treatment takes 30 minutes = 3.5 Hours of Labor Multiply by $150 per hour = $525 monthly $1,700 + $525 = $2,225 monthly cost   TWEETABLE QUOTES: “If you want to get an opportunity to buy an expensive piece of equipment, try and sit on it for a day or two. Tom highlights how your business can be the best tax shelter. We also learn how to save more money while increasing your gross income, as well as tax strategies for long-term tax reduction. Tune in to learn more from Robert Kiyosaki's Tax Advisor himself!   3 KEY POINTS: The government wants and supports business owners for the sake of the economy. One beginner mistake is handling taxes yourself without having a financial partner. Instead of asking if it's deductible, the better question is “How do I make it deductible?”   EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: Tom began his career with Ernst & Young, where he spent seven years. He went on to work for a Fortune 1000 company and has spent 25 years buying and selling CPA firms. Tom was handpicked by Robert Kiyosaki to be one of his Rich Dad advisors. He serves as Robert's tax advisor as well. He's authored two chapters in “The Book of Real Estate” by Robert and contributed to four other books. Most recently, Tom has been touring with Robert providing financial education. Together, they have 50 CPA firms worldwide. Tom left big company accounting because he wanted to work with entrepreneurs. When business owners work from home, they get a tax benefit. However, employees don't so there's massive inequality. You should consider starting a side hustle. It allows you to put extra money in your pocket and offers massive tax savings that can add up. One small business tax strategy is to have a home office. Rather than take a flat deduction, itemize. Also, it's better to claim % of rooms vs % of square footage. If you set up a home office right, not only does it give you a deduction for a portion of the utilities, maintenance, and even the cost of the house, but it even gives you a bigger deduction for your car because it turns your commute into a business expense. Ultimately, you want to evolve into an LLC or S Corp for tax deductions. With an S Corp, only your wages are taxed, not the distribution. An S Corp can cut your taxes in half. Tom cautions against filing as a sole proprietor because it's risky and costly to set up. In addition, 100% of your net income is subject to social security tax. Never plan to be small. Act like a big guy and get big guy benefits! Business owners often overlook the fact that business travel and meals are tax-deductible. Don't intermingle funds. Your business isn't a hobby. You must behave like a real business to reap the best tax benefits and optimize write-offs. Not only is it okay to employ your children, but the government likes you to employ them and they'll give you tax benefits. Children can earn up to $12,000 tax-free, allowing them to save for college more effectively than a 529 Plan. As an entrepreneur, there are three tax planning principles to keep in mind: reduction of taxable income, tax credits, and tax rates. Focus on permanent tax benefits vs postponing paying taxes. Entrepreneurs have a million ideas, but great entrepreneurs know which ideas are worth exploring first.   Jason A. Duprat, Entrepreneur, Healthcare Practitioner, and Host of the Healthcare Entrepreneur Academy podcast, talks about directing your focus toward the right goals. In this episode, Jason shares a method he uses to identify essential focus areas, the criteria to consider, and actual personal examples. Learn more so you can apply this best practice to your entrepreneurial journey!   3 KEY POINTS: What are my goals? Does this help me move closer to my goal? How much would this cost?   EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: Entrepreneurs are good at identifying and solving problems but not so much at figuring out which tasks to prioritize. To figure out what you should be working on:: First, have your goal in the back of your mind. Jason has a 3-year plan, yearly goals, and quarterly goals. Their team also conducts annual meetings to discuss the goals for the year. Second, does this project help move the needle toward the goal? If it's not getting you closer to your goals, it's a shiny object that should go to the bottom of the list. If it's something that could potentially be applicable, list it in a separate sheet and revisit it during the next annual meeting. Third, determine what the cost is for the different projects or tasks. For each project, consider these three things: Time: How much time would this cost? Capital: How much capital would we need to invest? Effort: How much effort would this take? Score each of them according to their level of cost/effort. 1 for minimal, 2 for intermediate, and 3 for high cost/effort. Identifying these will help you: Eliminate those that are not in alignment with your goals Figure out the most efficient process for achieving your goal. Duprat, Entrepreneur, Healthcare Practitioner, and Host of the Healthcare Entrepreneur Academy podcast, talks about leveraging guarantees to boost your sales. In this episode, Jason explains the different types of guarantees and the scenarios where each one can be used. He also shares his personal experience about how guarantees backfired against his business.   3 KEY POINTS: Unconditional Guarantees are most advantageous for the client. Conditional Guarantees eliminate risk in the eyes of potential clients. Anti-Guarantees are for providers with high risk or cost when providing their service.   EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: Jason is attending the Level Up Summit put up by a software company and filled with online marketers and online business owners. Guarantees can be a double-edged sword because some could take advantage of them, which happened to Jason. 3 Common Types of Guarantees: Unconditional Guarantee - No questions asked, full-refund guarantee. This is most advantageous for the client. Conditional Guarantee - Comes with certain criteria to meet in order to avail of the refund. This also eliminates the perceived risk in the eyes of a potential customer. Anti-Guarantee - No refund under any circumstance. This is usually the case when the provider has a lot of risk or a high cost when providing their service. You can combine guarantees. For example: Until 24 hours, an Unconditional Guarantee is in effect, but will convert to a Conditional Guarantee beyond that point. To charge a premium rate, You need to charge premium-quality service.   Jason A. Duprat, Entrepreneur, Healthcare Practitioner, and Host of the Healthcare Entrepreneur Academy podcast, talks about increasing the value of your offer through the Value Equation. Continuing from last week's topic on Alex Hormozi's concepts, Jason discusses what the Value Equation is, how to use it, and how it can help your business be part of a category of one. Tune in to learn how to charge at a premium rate by providing premium-quality service.   3 KEY POINTS: Increase the perceived likelihood of achievement. Decrease the time delay. Decrease your client's amount of effort and sacrifice.   EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: Jason discovered this concept from Alex Hormozi. The Value Equation is an important aspect of creating an amazing offer that puts you in a category of one. The equation is written as follows: Value = (Dream Outcome x Perceived Likelihood of Achievement) / (Time Delay x Amount of Effort and Sacrifice) In the business world, this is how people perceive the value you're delivering. The goal is to increase the Dream Outcome and Perceived Likelihood of Achievement (numerator) while decreasing the Time Delay and Amount of Effort and Sacrifice (denominator). For example, the goal of the client is to lose weight. A high-value service is Liposuction, while a lower value would be a gym membership. Liposuction has a high likelihood of being achieved especially if the physician handling the process is an expert, as opposed to working out with a lower likelihood. Liposuction has a low time delay since it's an instantaneous change compared to working out which would take months. Liposuction is low effort and sacrifice since it's a procedure done by the physician, as opposed to working out which is far more difficult. In this episode, Guy shares the story of how he built his businesses from the ground up, the rationale behind each process, and how virtual care has contributed to the massive change in our healthcare system. Collect questions you don't know the answers to. Know your practice from the inside out.   EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: Guy grew up questioning things and thinking of new innovative solutions to any problem he could think of. He started venturing into start-ups around 2010, then later translated his businesses into telehealth and digital health SteadyMD was the highest version of virtual primary care you could access online in 2017. In 2020, they had an influx of other digital health companies asking to hire Guy's clinicians on their platform. This signaled the existence of a large market, so they geared the business into an on-demand 50-state clinician workforce wherein digital health companies can tap into. For Guy, taking an MBA isn't required before starting a business, but the education helped build the foundations of his business know-how. When hiring programmers, Guy recommends outsourcing from other countries for cost-effectiveness but prefers always to have at least one person from the US. Guy spent six months doing extensive research on telehealth, digital health, and identifying how the healthcare industry could be improved for all. The pandemic in 2020 was the perfect opportunity that accelerated their already growing momentum. In fundraising, resign yourself to having hundreds of meetings and repeating yourself a lot. Do your best and keep grinding. Don't get discouraged and impatient. Treat it as a rite of passage, a battle you have to get through. Be diligent when listening to questions and adjust your pitch based on those, not on what you think is the most convincing argument. There's no excuse for not knowing everything about your industry, company, and competitors. With the convenience of the internet today, there's no excuse for not keeping up with the industry happenings.
