Tim Van Horn and Brodee Scott are joined by Memphis 901 FC Athletic Trainer Angie Ziolkowski. Angie makes her second visit to the podcast and is a true friend of the show. Catch her first visit here, where she talks about her job on the training ground, training room, and the pitch. This is her second season with the club. Like the rest of the team, the COVID-19 shutdown has changed her daily routine. Although she doesn't have practices and matches to monitor, some responsibilities remain. Angie discusses how the staff and she monitor and advise on player health and wellness during this time. Once practice can resume, Angie believes the sideline and the training room will require new habits. She shares her thoughts on what could change when sports get the green light to return. Angie's insight is proof she is a competent and a caring professional. Not only is she quick-thinking on the pitch, she is also creative in a cooking pinch. Brodee and Tim get a lesson in what to do when you're out of pancake syrup! Tim and Brodee have a bit of soccer news as well. The United States Women's National Team suffered a pair of setbacks in court last week. Tune in for a review of those decisions, part of a case set for a June trial date. One Manchester City star says if the club remain banned from the Champions League, he could simply walk away to a new team. Tim and Brodee explain who could be seeking a better shot at European glory. The Premier League seems to be weighing ALL options in an effort to complete this season. One country has offered to host those matches. Find out which one. As this episode is released on Cinco de Mayo, it's appropriate we have a bit of news out of Liga MX. The Mexican league, one of the most-watched in the United States, says it will suspend promotion and relegation for an extended period of time. Finally, we wish our friends a safe and successfully reopening of their respective businesses. It is our understanding that Don DeWeese's Gibson's Donuts is hoping to reopen around mid-May, and Seamus' The Brass Door is hoping for a reopening at the beginning of June. Both gentlemen are part of the fabric of soccer in this region, and we can't wait to visit them very soon! Thank you for listening. Huge thanks to Memphis 901 FC Athletic Trainer Angie Ziolkowski. Well into his fifth offseason in Portland, Thorns head coach Mark Parsons makes his Breaking Lines debut to talk about his offseason routine, the depth of coaching talent in the NWSL, and how his life changes with changes at the United States Women's National Team. Also, Parsons talks about the relationship between the NWSL and its main supply of talent (the college game), why the world has not tried harder to replicated the midfields Jose Mourinho used during Parsons' time at Chelsea, and the qualities and scarcities of the world's two most sought-after types of talent: elite strikers and world-class No. 10s.

Riddled with injuries and inter-state duty, the podcast roster was down to Cody and Thad this week. But the summer of soccer has given us a lot to discuss as of late. The United States Women's National Team are FIFA World Cup Champions for the fourth time and the celebrations have been so much fun to watch! The USMNT were able to make the Gold Cup final against Mexico, but still came up a bit short falling 1-0. And SKC get a much needed win that hopefully marks the beginning of their climb through the ranks of the West. With Megan Rapinoe & Rose Lavelle netting the goals, the US took down the Netherlands to become World Champs yet again. The country, especially Kansas City, were all the way behind them and the party has yet to stop. The girls are enjoying the wave, but how long will this last? Can the NWSL parlay this hype into something more for the sport? The scenes from PnL (somehow) had some wondering if fans were to blame for the demise of FCKC. Thad is a HUGE fan of the women's game and we discuss the failures of their ownership as well as problems with fans. We also spent some time on the USMNT's Gold Cup performance. While the end result may not have been what everyone wanted, there was progress made. We are witnessing a changing of the guard as Weston McKennie, Aaron Long, and Christian Pulisic take charge of the team. But there is still clearly a long way to go - on the field and off. Can Omar Gonzalez really be a part of the team going forward? The same could be asked of Michael Bradley as well. Yohan Croizet has scored in back-to-back matches and Sporting Kansas City moved out of last place in the Western Conference. The Transfer Window has opened and Peter Vermes claims to be looking at 30 players, but Cody & Thad think the most useful reinforcements will come by way of players returning from injury. Aside from Jaylin Lindsey and Rodney Wallace, everyone is training again. Roger Espinoza is on the road back for a huge boost in the midfield, and Erik Hurtado is nearing a return as well. Hurtado should light a fire under the struggling Krisztian Nemeth. There will be some choices to make for the lineup against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday. We come up with a game-plan for the lineup and substitutions to get a win. The fans are leaning towards Graham Zusi over Nico Hasler, but perhaps more surprising is Croizet leading the way over Nemeth at striker. Learn more about your ad choices. Big weekend in the college hockey world as the six conferences get set to crown a champion. I review Thursday night's action in the Big Ten, preview the conference semifinals and finals for all the conferences, talk about the ten Hobey Baker finalists and give you who I think will be the field come the NCAA Tournament selection. Our guest this week is USCHO's Candace Horgan, editor and women's hockey expert. She comes on to preview a familiar Women's Frozen Four, with all four of the same teams as last year. Despite that, we talk about how the women's field is starting to grow, if not necessarily into national championship contenders. Candace also gives us some insight into the breaking story between the United States Women's National Team and USA Hockey. The boycott announced on Wednesday isn't sudden and it isn't just about money, though the money is an issue as well. Would you be part of a four year committment for only six months of pay? Back on happier topics, we also discuss the Patty Kazmaier Award and how Ann-Renee Desbiens has been the rare goalie that could take a major honor away from the skaters. On that note, what are the odds Wisconsin doesn't go home with the hardware? Candace's latest article, also featuring USCHO writer Nicole Haase, can be found here.
