Lori Funderwhite, director of economic development with the City of Fayetteville, joins Atlanta Real Estate Forum Radio host Carol Morgan for this week's episode. Funderwhite discusses plans to attract new investment to Fayetteville in this podcast segment. The City of Fayetteville is working to revitalize its downtown district with new businesses and real estate development. By enhancing the commercial tax base, it can take some financial weight off its residents. In addition to bringing in new industry, Funderwhite explains that the City of Fayetteville invests in its existing businesses through support initiatives and community events. Two large-scale developments were recently unveiled in Town at Trilith and the U.S. Soccer National Training Center. What is the U.S. Soccer National Training Center? The United States Soccer Federation announced Fayetteville as its new headquarters and national training center. Slated to open right before Atlanta hosts the 2026 World Cup, this new facility will bring in revenue during the event and ongoing revenue as more games and practices are held at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center. The City of Fayetteville also plans to build new hotels and other lodgings to accommodate incoming soccer fans from across the globe. “With the headquarters relocation, there will be 400 new employees with that project working out of that facility, as well as, even after the World Cup, an anticipated 200,000 annual visitors a year for ongoing soccer events that they will be hosting at the National Training Center year-round,” said Funderwhite. “So, it's a great opportunity. We're very excited.” The decision to relocate U.S. Soccer headquarters to Fayetteville was influenced by the city's proximity to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and the numerous soccer-loving industry giants in Atlanta. Arthur Blank, owner of Atlanta United FC, was a major player in the decision, joined by Dan Cathy, CEO of Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A and chief visionary behind Town at Trilith and U.S. Soccer's long-time partner, Coca-Cola. These connections were instrumental in bringing soccer's vibrant energy and rich economy to the City of Fayetteville. Funderwhite said, “So, it's really a mix of several factors: a great location, great business climate in close proximity to the airport and Trilith in Fayetteville.” What does Town at Trilith offer residents? Town at Trilith is a 235-acre, mixed-use development that captivates residents with its elegance and charm. Development began just over 10 years ago, but Trilith has already brought in notable economic growth with Trilith Studios, residential offerings, a hotel and a wealth of shopping and dining. The second and third phases of the residential portion have begun and will feature 380 lots when completed. Coming soon, Trilith LIVE will offer premier live entertainment. With 1,000 audience seats and multiple sound stages, this space will be the perfect location for trade shows and performing arts showcases. Trilith provides entertainment and leisure for residents and has also driven relocation to Fayetteville and welcomed new creative professionals. As Trilith Studios and Trilith LIVE continue to establish and grow, Funderwhite says that the City of Fayetteville wants to make room for businesses that support the film and creative industries. Funderwhite said, “It's really an amazing project, and we're so excited to have this as a part of Fayetteville.” What's next for the City of Fayetteville? As more people relocate to Fayetteville, chasing jobs at the soccer training center and creative studios, the City intends to attract more medical businesses and technology companies that can work in tandem with the prospering industries. Funderwhite also hopes to bring new flavors for residents, including chef-driven restaurants and brewpubs. To promote wellness and add greenspace, the City is planning a series of walking trails connecting the area.

“Do you respect yourself when you look back on the hard times in your life?”Do you look back on your hard times and feel good about how you led yourself and others? And when you go through a perfect storm of events in your life, what are the certainty anchors and relationships that helped you stay afloat when it felt hard to keep breathing?Taking the time to honestly reflect on how we feel about ourselves and our choices during a hard time helps us stay present in how we want to lead and live when the next challenge comes our way. That's why I wanted to talk with a few people who left me in awe of the care, forethought, and leadership they displayed throughout the pandemic. Key Takeaways: Educators who work with the students often know those students real well or better than anyone else. When innovating or coming up with new ideas the mindset of "if there's a will there's a way" is essential. We need to acknowledge the teachers who continue to be positive in the face of negativity. We need to put weight on conversations instead of the numbers generated by evaluations. You become embraced by your community when you clearly embrace them. Student centered and service based learning has the biggest ripple effect through society. On Wednesday, the United States Soccer Federation reached a landmark agreement that ensures the U.S. women's and men's national soccer teams are paid equally. The first of its kind, the deal puts an exclamation point on a wildly successful run for the U.S. women's team, including four FIFA World Cup titles that date back to 1991 — and Olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012. But it only came about after a hard-fought battle led by the team's star players. Today on Front Burner, staff writer at The Athletic Stephanie Yang is here to break down how that battle played out and what the result means for women's sport around the world.
The four-time World Cup-champion U.S. Women's National Soccer team has scored a new win: equal pay with the men's team. Collective-bargaining agreements between the women's and men's national teams and the United States Soccer Federation align the teams' pay and create a unique mechanism to share prize money from their respective World Cup competitions. Discussing the re-debut of Cristiano Ronaldo for Manchester United in both Premier League action and UEFA Champions League action. How one game went so right and one went right for about 30 minutes and then horribly wrong. Also, the United States Soccer Federation has offered identical collective bargaining agreements to both the United States Men and Women's National Teams. Going the route of revenue sharing for actual pay and aiming to get the men and women to split FIFA prize money. Is this really a way to get equal pay? Is it actually viable at the moment? Are the USSF trying to find the cheapest way out? Plus, CONMEBOL now changes their mind about the biennial World Cup, while FIFPRO also weighs in on the situation too. All of this while other confederations seem to actually be ok with the idea. Plus, this also gives Sean Garmer and Erik Watkins a chance to discuss the Women's side of the equation and how this could actually benefit them. Of course, we end things with a look at our teams with the Supporters Club segment.

Hosts Stef Zeh (@IAmStefZ) and Amy Maestri (@AmyMaestri) join me for an in depth analysis of HBO Max & CNN's new documentary LFG. It's directed and produced by Andrea Nix Fine and Sean Fine, with Nix Fine also serving as a writer. It follows Megan Rapinoe, Jessica McDonald, Becky Sauerbrunn, Kelley O'Hara, Christen Press, Sam Mewis and Julie Foudy, as they sue the United States Soccer Federation for pay discrimination. Our conversation about it runs the gamut because the documentary itself raises so many pertinent issues as it relates to sports but also the larger culture. Throughout, we aim to offer solutions each of us can take to push these issues forward. One that I forgot to mention during the show is to not be afraid to talk about salaries with your coworkers. Knowledge is power to knowing one's worth and how that worth is being perceived by management. Listen to our thoughts and afterward, please share your opinions or questions. Podcast# 2: My Journey as Soccer Coach and My Approaches to handle the different situations with Kids in a Right WayIn this podcast episode, I want to share about soccer, my journey as a soccer coach, and other related experiences. I started coaching a soccer team in my early 20s and the team I got was of little young boys. I love them till now and consider them my best team. Since it's a long time ago, so they all are young men now. But I watched them grow up and even followed them up after I was done coaching them. I follow them through all their life stages including when they got other coaches, when they graduated from middle school and high school, and now when they are getting jobs and they are doing other things. It's been a real pleasure to follow them. But as they were my first coaching team and they were very nice, so I had a lot of pressure to not fail those kids. This pressure and failure things got so worst that I started having nightmares that they came back to me years later and said, "you didn't teach us this when we were little and now we can't get to where we want to be." When my dreams and the internal feeling was getting worst and worst, it was the time when I decided to have the next coaching license. So, I missed one of their tournaments. I got signed up for a coaching class with the United States Soccer Federation. This was my C license, which is a national level. Next year, I got my B license and after a couple of years, I got my A license. All these licensing struggles gave me peace of mind and helped me calm down. But I didn't stop studying. Anywhere I find something, I would study it out whether it is related to player development, the differences between boys and girls, etc.Over the past twenty years, I had the privilege of watching hundreds of parents raise their children. Some raise at high levels and are getting in the national team and playing abroad professionally while the low levels players just wanted to make their high school team. Some kids just wanted to go to college and be really awesome and amazing intramural players. It is fine, as it gave them something to do and it's a good way for them to connect and socialize. I also had the privilege of seeing how the parents would deal with the issues that would naturally come up with raising children, such as getting their first driver's license. To summarize, I had this privilege to watch parents deal with their children from their early years through their teenage years. My Approach to Handle ChildrenFast forward to 20 years later, I have my own children now. I have a 13-year old daughter who doesn't like soccer at all. I have a 10-year old son who loves soccer and I am also blessed with a 3-year old daughter who likes pink and Frozen (Disney Cartoon). Due to my blessed past experience, I have got samples of other parents and how they handle problems. This helps me choose and pick from those samples and attack the situation accordingly. For example, usually as a young soccer team and young soccer parents, the sidelines are nuts and crazy not in a good way, just detrimental to the children. When I go watch my son playing soccer, I sit in the corner and relax. It's actually a break for me as I can sit there and do absolutely nothing other than watching my son have fun. I don't have the emotional ups and downs so much because I don't care. The main reason is that I never had a national team coach ask me if one of my players won or did this amazing thing when they were playing as a team. So, the point I want to narrate is thatI remain relax and let my child enjoy the game. I also don't transfer any of my personal anxiety to my son before his event. Similarly, I try not to transfer my personal anxiety to my daughter for her swim events. I have been able to give them the space they need so that they can grow. Due to my way of handling things, I often find parents come and ask me a bunch of questions. Parents should know simple little tricks and I will share my tricks and tools further in the next episodes.I am grateful to you for joining me today. If you have any questions, let me know and I will give you the answers or get you the answers connected to who you need. I would appreciate it if you give any feedback, comment, or five-star reviews.
