We need to “simplifying things, but also focus on the individual and the player in terms of development” - especially with elite players as well.  We talk with Glenn Crooks, known broadcaster, journalist, podcast host, and soccer coach about how we can approach changes in the soccer landscape and what coaches might do. He expresses the need for coaches to develop passion in players and make it fun, whether they are at the grassroots or professional. About Glenn Crooks Glenn has called NYCFC's matches since their inaugural MLS season in 2015 and also covers the team as a soccer writer for Pro Soccer USA. In collaboration with Pro Soccer USA, he hosts On Frame, a soccer podcast where I do everything from dissecting playing tactics and systems to chatting with players, coaches, and executives in American soccer. He has hosted the likes of 2019 National Soccer Hall of Fame inductees Sunil Gulati and Abby Wambach, New England Revolution head coach Bruce Arena, MLSPA executive board member Eric Miller, and many more on the podcast. His involvement in the sport spans nearly 50 years, ranging from the youth and college levels all the way to the pros. Today, the soccer world knows Glenn as the national radio voice for Major League Soccer's New York City FC, analyst for the Big Ten Network, host of The Coaching Academy on SiriusXM FC, the On Frame and Soccer in the City weekly podcasts, and a contributor for Pro Soccer USA. Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub Podcast! In this episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time to chat all things Canadian Women's National Team, Canada Soccer and Vancouver Whitecaps. To do that, they're joined by a special guest, Harjeet Johal of the Equalizer, Daily Hive and ProSoccerUSA, who returns to the show to help break down Canada's performance at She Believes Cup, the Whitecaps offseason and some other important news. First, they dive into the CanWNT talk, as Johal shares her thoughts on Canada's performance at She Believes Cup, which gave us a first look at Bev Priestman as the Canadian head coach. Despite a lengthy absences list, Canada battled hard in their 3 games, leaving an overall positive impression of Priestman's work. After, they chat about reasonable expectations for Canada at this summer's Olympics, in which they're looking to earn a medal for the third consecutive tournament. They also finish off with some roster talk, including an interesting debate about the formation that Canada should consider using going forward. Once through that, they take a quick look at the Voyageurs Cup drama that has dominated the conversation in Canadian Soccer circles this past week, as Canada Soccer announced that the final of the 2020 tournament would be postponed once again, while also automatically gifting Toronto FC a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League after holding discussions with Forge. After missing a chance to play this final back in the fall, this outcome always felt like it was a looming possibility, so they look at how things got to this point. Lastly, they dive into some 'Caps talk, as Johal shares her outlook on the team's work this offseason, including their work in the transfer window, in which they've made a few good moves, but have a still few important holes still to fill, such as a DP #10. They also break down the hire of Ricardo Clark as an assistant coach, news that broke while they were recording, as they give kudos to the 'Caps for the hire, which filled an area of need in their coaching staff. You can find Johal on Twitter @HarJournalist, and her work at Equalizer Soccer, Daily Hive and ProSoccerUSA. If you have Twitter, make sure to check out The Third Sub Podcast @thirdsubpod!

Welcome back to the latest episode of the Third Sub Podcast! In their 42nd episode, Alex and Sam are back, as usual, this time joined by Tristan D'Amours of ProSoccerUSA, as they chat some Montreal Impact, Canadian Premier League, Canadian rivalries and much more in an in-depth chat. To start things off, they talk about the Montreal Impact, as the Impact find themselves reeling after a heartbreaking loss at home to Toronto FC earlier this week. What does that loss mean for the Impact? They take a look at that, and other subjects from that game, as TFC stunned the Impact in their own ground for the 2nd time in 2 weeks. After that, they chat about the Impact vs TFC rivalry, as well as the historic nature of the rivalry between Montreal and Vancouver, which used to be among the fiercest in North America, before MLS's scheduling for matches between Eastern and Western teams helped tame things between the two sides. The talk then shifts to the current project in Montreal, as they chat about some of the faces of the Thierry Henry rebuild so far, before talking about the man himself, Henry, who has so far had a pretty good start to his MLS coaching career for the Impact. They then look at the upcoming matchup(s) between Montreal and the Vancouver Whitecaps, as the Impact look to rescue their Canadian Championship hopes, while the 'Caps look to revive their MLS season, with their Canadian Championship dreams already dashed due to the recent TFC win over Montreal. Once the MLS chat is done and dusted, they then shift the topic to the Canadian Premier League, which Tristan has been following quite closely, as he shares some of his impressions on the teams and players that have stood out on P.E.I. over the past few weeks at the 'Island Games'. He also states the importance of a Quebec-based CPL team capitalizing on this wave of talented Quebecois players making an impact all over the league, before the talk shifts to the PLSQ and how players are falling through the cracks there, as evidenced by the standout play of PLSQ graduates such as Mo Farsi and Diyaeddine Abzi for Cavalry FC and York 9, respectively. You can find Tristan on Twitter @tristandamours, and in writing for many outlets, including ProSoccerUSA, MLSSoccer, CanPL.ca and whatahowler.com, as well as in audio form on the Scrum Podcast and IMFCRadio, among others.

The Revolution had a chance to punch their ticket to the MLS is Back knockout round in their Friday match again DC United, but an unforced error by typically solid Toni Delamea and a somewhat uninspired letdown in play from the rest of the eleven forced them to settle for a disappointing draw that likely left ESPN wondering why they gave these teams a Friday spot in primetime. Welcome back to another episode of the Third Sub! In this special episode, Alex and Sam are back, this time joined by Harjeet Johal, A.K.A Har Journalist, a local Vancouver journalist who covers the Whitecaps, the Canada Women's national team and more, with bylines in ProSoccerUSA, The Equalizer, Daily Hive and more! To kick things off, they take a look at the departure of CEO Mark Pannes from the Vancouver Whitecaps, and the shockwaves that move has sent throughout the club. Har shares what she's heard from the inside, with this move blindsiding many, both inside and outside of the team. After years of frustration, this appears to have been the straw that broke many people's backs, and we take a look at why that is the case. Can the 'Caps come back from this? Is it time to sell? Is that even possible? Can new dual CEO and Sporting Director, Axel Schuster, handle the responsibility of his new job? They look at these questions, and many more, in the first part of the show. After, talk shifts to MLS, where the plans for the 'Return to Play' tournament continues to ramp up down in Orlando, with the official draw for the competition having been completed last week. They take a look at the draw itself, and why it's ridiculous to call it "a random draw", before voicing their concerns with the safety of players considering Florida's handling of COVID-19 recently. Lastly, the talk shifts over to Canada's Women's National Team, who made a big move last week by parting ways with head coach Kenneth Heiner-Moller, coach of over 2 years now. Har shares her thoughts on the move, and what she is looking for from a next head coach, who will have a busy next couple of years of preparation, with the 2021 Olympics and 2023 World Cup coming up. As Canada's quest for their first major trophy continues, whoever is hired will have to find a way to push this team over a hump that they've never quite been able to get over. As is customary, the episode rounds off with Alex's and Sam's 'Around the World' segment, where they catch up on all things global soccer, including the Bundesliga, the Premier League and the K-League.

Six States One Podcast - A Show About The New England Revolution

The Revs dropped their season finale at Atlanta United FC on Sunday, 3-1, to conclude a turnaround regular season in which they only lost three times since May under new head coach and sporting director Bruce Arena. Arena called the game a “dress rehearsal” for the forthcoming one-game season as New England prepares to return to the playoffs for the first time in three years. Undecidedly the underdogs, they’ll head back to the Big Peach and face the Five Stripes in less than two weeks. Can this team pull off the upset? We talk it up with Julian Cardillo, of Pro Soccer USA, and Felipe Cardenas, of The Athletic. Six States One Podcast - A Show About The New England Revolution

If the Revs do make a return to the playoffs in 2019, Gustavo Bou’s blistering, left-footed strike in the 86th minute Saturday against the Chicago Fire may be seen as a pivotal impetus. New England went up early in the 17th minute when Brandon Bye found a streaking, untouched Wilfried Zahibo in the box to put the Revs up, 1-0. Chicago battled back in the 41st minute off a set piece that lead to a questionable goal from Francisco Calvo, who looked offside, but beat keeper Matt Turner with header near the left post. The 2-1 win was enough to keep the Revs above the red line and in sixth place, and created some much-needed space between chasing Orlando SC, but it felt almost as if the Boys in Blue may have stolen three points at home. We talk about it with Julian Cardillo, of Pro Soccer USA. The Huot 8k predicts an uphill ride for the Revs from here on out and it continues this weekend when New England hosts Toronto FC, who remain just one point behind them on the Eastern Conference Table. We welcome back Tej Sahota, of Waking the Red, to see what the Revs are up against when they face a Reds side that has only lost once in its last five matches.   Show Guests: Julian Cardillo - @JulianCardillo - ProSoccerUSA.com Tej Sahota - @boatical - Waking the Red   Links mentioned in the show:   Show Hosts:   Ray Sullivan - @RaySullivan Jon Huot - @jonisgreat Eric Spence - @espence79   Find Us On Social: Twitter - @SixStatesOnePod Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/SixStatesOnePod/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/sixstatesonepod/

New York City FC will try to rebound from their 2-1 defeat at Atlanta United last weekend when they visit the bottom-dwellers in Major League Soccer, FC Cincinnati, on Saturday. D.J. Switzer, who covers FCC for Pro Soccer USA, will join Glenn Crooks for a preview of the match. New York City FC had a strong need for depth at right back and a trade with Minnesota brought Eric Miller to the Bronx. Glenn has a one-on-one interview with the newest member of NYCFC.  “If you’ve every driven I-71 between Cincinnati and Columbus you will have undoubtedly seen a road side bill board that says, “Hell is Real.” Cincinnati and Columbus fall within a bible belt and it’s not unusual to see the 10 Commandments posted on bill boards. This is amongst a series of religious billboards.” - D.J. Switzer describing the origins of Ohio derby name. “I certainly think there is a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none aspect of that. The other side of the coin is if I couldn’t play left back or center back I probably wouldn’t have played in half the games I’ve played in MLS.” – Eric Miller on the possibility of being a victim of his versatility in trying to acquire a full-time position.

Six States One Podcast - A Show About The New England Revolution

The Revs earned their third-straight road win at FC Cincinnati on Sunday, extending their unbeaten streak to 10 and moving into the seventh and final MLS playoff spot.  Matt Turner picked up his second-straight clean sheet, while goals from Carles Gil in the 9th minute and Antonio Delamea in the 55th were all New England needed to avenge a loss to Cincinnati back in March. This week, we break it down with Julian Cardillo, of Pro Soccer USA, and Sean Sweeney, with the Boston Sports Journal. The Huot 8000 locks in some predictions and we welcome Julia Poe, of the Orlando Sentinel, to help preview The Purple Lion’s upcoming visit to Foxborough.   Show Guests: Julian Cardillo - @JulianCardillo - ProSoccerUSA.com Sean Sweeney - @MrSeanMSweeney - Boston Sports Journal Julia Poe - @jpoe24601 - Orlando Sentinel Links mentioned on the show: Midnight Rider's Charity Golf Tournament: https://www.midnightriders.com/events-awards/golf/ Show Hosts: Ray Sullivan - @RaySullivan Jon Huot - @jonisgreat Alex Almeida - @footyjedi   Find Us On Social: Twitter - @SixStatesOnePod Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/SixStatesOnePod/

Six States One Podcast - A Show About The New England Revolution

The Revs went up two goals against DC United at Audi Field on Friday, but had to settle for a 2-2 draw after giving up an equalizing goal in the 86th minute. In the 4th minute, Teal Bunbury picked up his fourth goal in five league matches to remain hot. Carles Gil doubled the Revs lead in the 32nd minute, he now leads the club with five goals on the season.  The Revolution played the final 27 minutes down a man after Wilfried Zahibo was ejected on a second yellow card The road result extends New England’s unbeaten streak to eight games and leaves the Revs just two points outside the final playoff spot. We break it down with Julian Cardillo, from Pro Soccer USA.  New England plays its first of two games this week on Wednesday, against a struggling Vancouver side, currently sitting at the bottom of the MLS Western Conference table. Ray, Jon and Eric Spence welcome back Mark Dailey, from the Back Line Podcast, and see if the Revs can capitalize the Whitecaps woes.  And, finally, the Huot 8000 rides again! The most important result in Dome Torrent’s brief tenure as head coach of the New York City Football Club came on April 24 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. It was week eight of Major League Soccer and the boys in blue had yet to record a victory and Torrent’s job security was in question. City won that match in convincing style, 2-0 – part of what is currently an 11-game unbeaten streak in all competitions. Audi Field will be the venue for New York City’s Round of 16 match in the 106-year old U.S. Open Cup – the Pigeons recording their first win in the competition last week against North Carolina FC. Because of injuries and international call-ups, Anton Tinnerholm, normally an outside back, played at center back for the first time since he was 15 years old in that match. Torrent and Tinnerholm spoke to Pro Soccer USA’s Glenn Crooks about the run in the U.S. Open Cup and the earlier success against D.C. United. “There were a couple of times he (center back Sebastian Ibeagha) had to scream at me – I really wanted to go forward. That was the biggest challenge for me.” – Anton Tinnerholm on his adjustment from wing back to center back. “When I want to change the system or move some players, normally I will speak to the players when I have any doubt. I respect their opinion.” – Dome Torrent on the necessity of change in the midst of injuries and international call-ups.
