Today's message explores how our marriages can bear witness to Christ. Even singles can benefit from the principles shared, but marriage uniquely reveals how we respond to challenges and conflict.Text: 2 Corinthians 5:14-21Exposition:The Stages of Marriage: Marriage is a journey with various stages, each with unique challenges and opportunities for growth. It's easy to focus on our spouse as the source of challenges, but our greatest challenge often lies within ourselves.Dying to Self: Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians that we are no longer to live for ourselves, but for Christ. This involves letting go of our rights and preferences. Sin makes us self-focused and self-important, but marriage calls us to die to those tendencies.Three Ways Marriages Can Witness to Christ:Develop a Kingdom Perspective: We need to reorient our marriages around a kingdom perspective, sowing small seeds of kindness, prayer, gratitude, and humility.Practice Reconciliation: We must first be reconciled to Christ, then extend that reconciliation to our spouses. This involves confession, repentance, and forgiveness.See Marriage as a Partnership for the Gospel: Our spouses are our partners in ministry, and together we can advance the Gospel through raising our children, serving others, and demonstrating Christ's love in our daily lives. Conclusion:The Lord's Table: We respond by coming to the Lord's Table, remembering Christ's sacrifice that reconciles us to God and empowers us to live in a way that reflects His love.A Word of Encouragement: Even in the midst of trials and suffering, we can remember God's faithfulness and the hope of His return.Call to Action:Take the "Confession, Repentance, and Forgiveness" handout from the Connect Table.Consider how you can partner with your spouse to advance the Gospel. If you need prayer, don't hesitate to come forward.*Summaries are generated using AI. radiantvisalia.comWord & Deed: We are Witnesses: 4 Things to Remember When Suffering with Travis AicklenScripture: James 1:1-12Intro: This sermon continues "We Are Witnesses," focusing on how our lives testify to Jesus. Our lives constantly speak. Last week: testifying through suffering. This week: deeper dive. Passion involves suffering. C.S. Lewis: God whispers in pleasure, speaks in conscience, shouts in pain. Christian success whispers, suffering shouts. The world watches how we endure. Hopeful suffering is powerful. James, Jesus' half-brother, writes just after the crucifixion. He calls himself a "slave" of Jesus. Consider worshipping your brother as God – it speaks to Jesus' divinity.Text: James 1:1-12Exposition:James is direct, like a "mouthy" brother. He immediately addresses trials. No preamble, just stark reality."Count it all joy": Seems irrational. James says rejoice because we know trials' purpose. We forget in suffering. James reminds us of truths we possess.Four Reminders: Life is brutal: The Bible doesn't shy away. James: when you face trials, not if. "Various trials" means many kinds. God works in good & bad times. We're God's scattered, not sheltered, people. Jesus said we will face trouble. Need a "theology of suffering"—a plan. Suffering comes in waves. The "left hook" is questioning God, losing trust, becoming isolated.Everything's tested: Testing proves authenticity. We learn through failure. Tests reveal weaknesses. "Teacher is quiet." God's silence is hard. We test what we value. Tests show God's love. They're for us. Peter: Jesus said he was handed to Satan, but Jesus prayed for Peter's faith not to fail. It's our faith, refined by trials. We rejoice in the promise of God's work.Pray for wisdom: In trials, pray for wisdom to avoid foolish choices. Pain isn't worst; what we do in pain is. Addiction, bitterness are dangers. "Steadfastness" means "remaining under." Don't cheat trials. C.S. Lewis: “God whispers in pleasures, speaks in conscience, shouts in pains: His megaphone.” Testing builds trust.Cross before crown: Universal truth. Jesus endured the cross. No one's exempt. We see the "crown" but not the "cross." The gospel lifts the lowly, humbles the proud. Conclusion:The table: Jesus suffered for us. He's our model and Savior. The table's for all.Prayer: Thank God for His suffering. His silence doesn't mean inaction. We trust Him in trials.Call to Action: Don't suffer alone. Seek support.Prayer: For those in trials, for the church's support, for understanding suffering's power. Support the show

March 26, 2024 Daily Devotion: "We Are Witnesses" Luke 24:42-45 The Passion Translation They handed him a piece of broiled fish and some honeycomb. And they watched him eat. Then he said to them, “Don't you remember the words that I spoke to you when I was still with you? I told you that I would fulfill everything written about me, including all the prophecies from the law of Moses through the Psalms and the writings of the prophets.” He supernaturally unlocked their understanding to receive the revelation of the Scriptures. Jesus is who He says He is. He is reliable and trustworthy, and so is His Word. We have the privilege of being able to read the accounts of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection, as well as being witnesses ourselves of what He has done in our own lives. Like Luke shared with Theophilus, we can—and must—tell others who Jesus is and what He has done. We are witnesses of these things. Let's proclaim the gospel to all the nations. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/gerzon-etino/message

We Are Witnesses12/9/66Neville Goddard “We are Witnesses.” Everyone is a witness to God's Promise. We're told in the 44th chapter of Isaiah…in fact, it starts with a question, “Who has announced from of old the things to come? Let them tell us what is yet to be. Fear not, nor be afraid; have I not told you from of old? And you are my witnesses! Is there a God besides me? There is no Rock, I know not any” (Is.44:7). So he tells every one of us, you and I were all in God in the beginning. This is not an accident—we're all contained within him—it's a purpose, it's a plan. We saw exactly what God's purpose was, every one of us, no one left out. Now, what is a witness? A witness is one who has first-hand information of a fact or an event. We're told in scripture that the evidence of two or three, if they should agree, it is conclusive. If two or three witnesses agree in testimony, it is conclusive, but you cannot on the testimony of one man. There must be two or more. Now we are told that scripture is God's testimony. This is what man must testify to. And he testifies to it by telling the story not as hearsay but of his own personal experience. Here we find the words, “That which was from the beginning, that which we have heard, that which we have seen with our eyes, that which we have actually seen and touched with our hand, of the word of life, that declare we unto you” (1 John 1:1). There now are the witnesses. Sermon #500 Today we wrap up our series titled "We Are Witnesses" by looking at waht by all appearances seemed to be a catastrophic failure in Philippi. Paul and Silas are arrested on false charges, beaten and imprisoned. Yet in the middle of the night they were found singing praises to God. The end result was a converted jailer and his entire family. So what can we learn? We learn that we as Christians are always being watched by non-believers, and that God can and often does uses us right where we are, despite our circumstances. Society may never understand how we live but we are to live as ambassadors of Christ because we are always witnessing to others, either by words or actions. SERMON | Acts 5:27-32 - "We Are Witnesses" by Rev. Joseph Sanford at Sellersburg United Methodist Church in Sellersburg, IN We continue the Easter Season as we build up to Pentecost on June 5th. We tell the story of the Spirit-empowered Apostles to prepare ourselves as Spirit-empowered disciples. We begin with the simplicity of our calling to be witnesses. The word witness can be understood in a variety of ways (some good, others not-so-good). Let's walk through the idea of witness so we can understand the foundational calling we each have in our world today. Let's focus on what we have seen and heard. What have you seen and heard? Once you know that much, you are ready to be a witness.

What does it mean to be a witness? That is the question asked in today's sermon. This second Sunday of Easter typically brings up “doubting Thomas.” But was Thomas truly a doubter? He was the first to declare that Jesus was God and he is credited with taking the Good News to the Indian sub continent. The post We Are Witnesses appeared first on McFarland UMC.
Sermon #494 For the season of Easter we are starting a new series called "We Are Witnesses" based on Acts 10:39, in which Peter tells the Cornelius and his family, "[W]e are witnesses of all that [Jesus] did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem." From Luke's account of the resurrection, we see how the women are witnesses to the disciples that Christ has been raised from the dead. We find that witnesses first of all see, hear, or experience something that others do not, and they also tell others what they know. A witness tells the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, as per our legal parlance. So what is it that we know that others do not? What can we witness about Jesus and His love? Her mother-in-law is country music icon Dottie West, who was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2018.With roots that are firmly planted in gospel music, Kenna's career began in 1983 as a vocalist. In time, however, God began to open a new facet of ministry for the singer.“I had been writing songs for years,” she recalls, “but it was more like journaling with rhyme. Yet there was a season of time around 1997 or 1998, when we were losing my grandmother to dementia and my mom was diagnosed with a tumor near her brain, that I began to see life intersecting with Scripture. The verses that God was using to bring me peace and comfort suddenly began to take on a melody, and I'd write it down. Then one night at church, a friend encouraged me to record some of the songs, so I did; then another friend who worked for a record company gave the songs to the publisher at thelabel, and within a week, the trajectory of my life had completely changed.”Kenna got her first cut shortly thereafter (“A Taste of Grace”), followed by her first radio single (“We're Not Gonna Bow”), which reached #1 on the national charts as well as earning the new songwriter her first of eleven Dove Award nominations.Twenty years later, Kenna has penned over a thousand songs and has garnered over 100 “Song of the Year” nominations, along with 25 “Song of the Year” winsand 8 BMI Awards. As a staff writer for Curb|Word Music Publishing in Nashville, her songs have appeared on GRAMMY® Award-winning projects by both JasonCrabb and Hillary Scott (of Lady A), as well as eight GRAMMY® nominated recordings. You can also find her work on projects by artists such as The Martins, The Isaacs, Michael English, The Crabb Family, Finding Favour, Charles Billingsley, Take 6, The Oak Ridge Boys, The Booth Brothers, Wes Hampton and AdamCrabb of the Gaither Vocal Band, Triumphant Quartet, Travis Cottrell, Jimmy Fortune (of The Statler Brothers), The Collingsworth Family, Brian Free & Assurance,Marty Raybon (of Shenandoah), Joseph Habedank, Karen Peck & New River, Jeff & Sheri Easter, The Nelons, Selah, The Blackwood Brothers, Mac Powell (of ThirdDay), and many more.Additionally, Kenna has created six musicals for the church, including Word Music's best-selling “We Are Witnesses,” along with the Dove Award-nominated projects, “Love Won” and “Christmas Is in The Heart.”In 2020, Kenna signed as an artist with Crossroads Music Group and released her long-awaited project, “A Reason for Hope,” in the summer of 2021.“I am so excited about this new chapter of life,” she shares. “It is as if everything that the Lord has allowed me to do for Him over the last 38 years has ledto this moment.”Kenna's career in gospel music has indeed come full circle. The author and board-certified Biblical counselor—who is currently pursuing a master's degreein theology—continues to blend music, devotional teaching, and humor into a ministry that reaches across the nation and around the world with the goodnews of the Gospel. Whether she is writing songs on Music Row or ministering alongside noted Christian leaders at venues ranging from The Pentagon to NASCARchapels to the local church, Kenna's life has a singular call: to creatively communicate the Living Hope found in Jesus Christ.“It's all I have wanted to do since I became a Believer,” she confesses, “and I feel so incredibly blessed that God is still allowing me to do just that.”For more information about Kenna's music and ministry, or to book her for an event, contact her office at kenna@kennaturnerwest.comYou can now catch The Gospel Jubilee Thursday afternoons at 4:00 PM and Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM EST on Southern Branch Bluegrass RadioGo to www.sbbradio.orgYou can also catch The Gospel Jubilee Saturday evenings at 7:00 and Wednesday afternoons at 4:00 CST on Radio For Life.Go to: www.RadioForLife.orgPlaylist: Artists | Song Title | Album01. It's not too blunt to say that Ed Gavagan is a big reason why I'm fascinated with personal storytelling as a craft. I first heard him telling stories on The Moth years ago and, when he and I were introduced and he indicated that he'd be willing to do a story for the show, I literally bounced up the stairs of my house yelling to my wife "I'm going to do a show with the guy who told Drowning on Sullivan Street." When your story is as big and life-changing as Ed's is, you can tell it in many different ways. I think the version he told The Moth is a love letter of sorts to New York. I'm very proud that the version of the story he told here on TVK was a reflection on good fortune and privilege, and on forgiveness. I really can't thank him enough for sharing it with me, and with you.If you haven't had enough of Ed's fantastic pacing and compelling voice you can check out his Ted Talk and the version of his story he told The New Yorker for its We Are Witnesses portrait of crime and punishment in America. As for the music, this week's playlist is called Fairytale of New York and it features not only Elton John (our first ever "two-time-story-inspiring" artist here on the show) but also Tom Waits, LCD Soundsystem, The xx and Johnny Cash. The longest government shutdown in U.S. history was triggered by an impasse over border security. In this hour, Politics host Amy Walter asks, is comprehensive immigration reform impossible? From the summer of 2001 when a bipartisan agreement looked hopeful through today, a look at why compromise remains out of reach. Shari Robertson is a documentary filmmaker. Back in the early 2000s, she and her filmmaking partner Michael Camerini embedded themselves within this reform effort, driven by President George W. Bush. But how did we end up here, where we are now, where an immigration bill with bipartisan support seems almost unimaginable? To make sense of this Amy checked in with Chuck Hagel. He’s a former Republican senator from Nebraska and was one of the co-sponsors of the 2006 immigration bill. Cecilia Muñoz was considered President Obama’s conscience on immigration. She was deeply involved in the reform effort that took place during his administration and gives us the insider view on why that failed. In 2011, Jose Antonio Vargas officially came out of the closet as an undocumented immigrant. This was years before millions of others would join him. And he did it in the most public way a person could - he wrote a cover story in The New York Times Magazine called, “My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant.” He is now the founder of Define American, and is the author of “Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizen.” He joins the program to share his analysis of the current impasse over immigration. Amy's Final Take: We had an ambitious idea this week. Try to explain - in an hour - why Congress has failed in its last two attempts to pass comprehensive immigration reform. The goal was not to leave you with the answer - but for you to appreciate all the cross-currents and challenges that face policymakers. But, I was struck by two things over the course of putting this show together. First, it is actually not that hard to pass an immigration reform bill. The biggest impediment to success is the lack of political will and the lack of willingness to sacrifice and compromise. That includes lots of people - activists, organizations, people on the frontlines of the issue - not just the politicians. The second is that whenever we talk about immigration reform we hear a lot from the political figures involved, but not as much from real people.
