We are studying the lives of common everyday people in the Bible. They were people like us, yet the Holy Spirit included their stories in the Bible for our benefit. One such man was Simeon, and his story is told in Luke 2. Luke 2:25 And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him. Vs 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. Vs 27 And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to carry out for Him the custom of the Law, Vs 28 then he took Him into His arms, and blessed God, and said, Vs 29 “Now Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace According to Your word; Vs 30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation, Vs 31 Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples, Vs 32 A light of revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel.” There are a number of things that make Simeon uncommon. He was righteous which means he lived in conformity with the character and conduct of God. He thought like God thought, and so he acted like God acted. He was a devout man; he lived in reverence and awe of God’s holiness. It says three times in three verses that he was filled with the Spirit, intimate with the Spirit, and directed by the Spirit. He was a man in whom and through whom the Holy Spirit lived and worked. The Holy Spirit had told him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord’s Christ. The name Lord means master, or supreme ruler, and refers to God. The Greek name Christ and the Hebrew name Messiah both mean ‘the anointed one.’ This official title, Christ or Messiah, occurs 514 times in the New Testament. It denotes His role as the One chosen and sent by God save His people from their sins. The name Jesus means, ‘the Lord is salvation’ or ‘Savior’, which means to rescue, to deliver or to save. Simeon was looking for the consolation of Israel which was Jesus the promised Messiah. He was seeking the One who would bring comfort to Israel through salvation. He obviously knew the Old Testament prophecies about the coming Messiah, and he longed to see God’s promise fulfilled. Here was a man who made God his supreme priority. Now the Holy Spirit arranged a divine appointment between Simeon and Jesus. 33 days after His circumcision, Joseph and Mary brought Jesus into the temple to present their first born Son to the Lord, and to offer a sacrifice as commanded by the Mosaic Law. When Simeon saw Jesus, he took him in his arms and blessed God. Simeon praised God for keeping His promise and allowing him to see God’s salvation. Now that he had seen the Messiah, he was ready to die. This is a profound truth. No one is ready to die, until they have placed their faith in Jesus’ payment for their sins. God only has one solution for human sin and His name is Jesus. Jesus came to earth on Christmas to pay the penalty for our sins by dying in our place, so that all who believe in Him by faith will be forgiven by God. And Christ’s salvation is offered to all, Jew and Gentile alike. The greatest gift anyone could receive is the gift of salvation and forgiveness of their sins. This Christmas, as we give presents to each other, let’s not forget the greatest gift of all; God’s gift of His Son Jesus. This was not a cheap gift. For us to inherit eternal life, Jesus, the most perfect being who ever lived, had to die in our place. Simeon didn’t take God’s gift for granted. He believed God’s promise, He pursued God’s promise, and He gave thanks for the fulfillment of God’s promise. Let’s do the same. Remember, God designed us to ‘do life together!’ Love and prayers, Brad ••• For more information, visit mannapodcast.com. ©2018, 2019, & 2020 - Brad Hannink - All Rights Reserved

Psalm 104-106 New King James Version   Praise to the Sovereign Lord for His Creation and Providence 104 Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, You are very great:You are clothed with honor and majesty,2 Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment,Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain. 3 He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters,Who makes the clouds His chariot,Who walks on the wings of the wind,4 Who makes His angels spirits,His [a]ministers a flame of fire. 5 You who [b]laid the foundations of the earth,So that it should not be moved forever,6 You covered it with the deep as with a garment; The waters stood above the mountains.7 At Your rebuke they fled;At the voice of Your thunder they hastened away.8 [c]They went up over the mountains; They went down into the valleys,To the place which You founded for them.9 You have set a boundary that they may not pass over,That they may not return to cover the earth. 10 He sends the springs into the valleys; They flow among the hills.11 They give drink to every beast of the field; The wild donkeys quench their thirst.12 By them the birds of the heavens have their home; They sing among the branches.13 He waters the hills from His upper chambers; The earth is satisfied with the fruit of Your works. 14 He causes the grass to grow for the cattle,And vegetation for the service of man,That he may bring forth food from the earth,15 And wine that makes glad the heart of man,Oil to make his face shine,And bread which strengthens man’s heart.16 The trees of the Lord are full of sap,The cedars of Lebanon which He planted,17 Where the birds make their nests; The stork has her home in the fir trees.18 The high hills are for the wild goats; The cliffs are a refuge for the rock[d] badgers. 19 He appointed the moon for seasons; The sun knows its going down.20 You make darkness, and it is night,In which all the beasts of the forest creep about.21 The young lions roar after their prey,And seek their food from God.22 When the sun rises, they gather togetherAnd lie down in their dens.23 Man goes out to his workAnd to his labor until the evening. 24 O Lord, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all.The earth is full of Your possessions—25 This great and wide sea,In which are innumerable teeming things,Living things both small and great.26 There the ships sail about; There is that Leviathan[e]Which You have [f]made to play there. 27 These all wait for You,That You may give them their food in due season.28 What You give them they gather in;You open Your hand, they are filled with good.29 You hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.30 You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; And You renew the face of the earth. 31 May the glory of the Lord endure forever;May the Lord rejoice in His works.32 He looks on the earth, and it trembles; He touches the hills, and they smoke. 33 I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.34 May my meditation be sweet to Him;I will be glad in the Lord.35 May sinners be consumed from the earth,And the wicked be no more. Bless the Lord, O my soul![g]Praise the Lord! The Eternal Faithfulness of the Lord 105 Oh, give thanks to the Lord!Call upon His name;Make known His deeds among the peoples!2 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;Talk of all His wondrous works!3 Glory in His holy name;Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!4 Seek the Lord and His strength;Seek His face evermore!5 Remember His marvelous works which He has done,His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,6 O seed of Abraham His servant,You children of Jacob, His chosen ones! 7 He is the Lord our God;His judgments are in all the earth.8 He remembers His covenant forever,The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,9 The covenant which He made with Abraham,And His oath to Isaac,10 And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,To Israel as an everlasting covenant,11 Saying, “To you I will give the land of CanaanAs the allotment of your inheritance,”12 When they were few in number,Indeed very few, and strangers in it. 13 When they went from one nation to another,From one kingdom to another people,14 He permitted no one to do them wrong;Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes,15 Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones,And do My prophets no harm.” 16 Moreover He called for a famine in the land;He destroyed all the provision of bread.17 He sent a man before them—Joseph—who was sold as a slave.18 They hurt his feet with fetters,[h]He was laid in irons.19 Until the time that his word came to pass,The word of the Lord tested him.20 The king sent and released him,The ruler of the people let him go free.21 He made him lord of his house,And ruler of all his possessions,22 To [i]bind his princes at his pleasure,And teach his elders wisdom. 23 Israel also came into Egypt,And Jacob dwelt in the land of Ham.24 He increased His people greatly,And made them stronger than their enemies.25 He turned their heart to hate His people,To deal craftily with His servants. 26 He sent Moses His servant,And Aaron whom He had chosen.27 They performed His signs among them,And wonders in the land of Ham.28 He sent darkness, and made it dark; And they did not rebel against His word.29 He turned their waters into blood,And killed their fish.30 Their land abounded with frogs,Even in the chambers of their kings.31 He spoke, and there came swarms of flies,And lice in all their territory.32 He gave them hail for rain,And flaming fire in their land.33 He struck their vines also, and their fig trees,And splintered the trees of their territory.34 He spoke, and locusts came,Young locusts without number,35 And ate up all the vegetation in their land,And devoured the fruit of their ground.36 He also [j]destroyed all the firstborn in their land,The first of all their strength. 37 He also brought them out with silver and gold,And there was none feeble among His tribes.38 Egypt was glad when they departed,For the fear of them had fallen upon them.39 He spread a cloud for a covering,And fire to give light in the night.40 The people asked, and He brought quail,And satisfied them with the bread of heaven.41 He opened the rock, and water gushed out;It ran in the dry places like a river. 42 For He remembered His holy promise,And Abraham His servant.43 He brought out His people with joy,His chosen ones with [k]gladness.44 He gave them the lands of the [l]Gentiles,And they inherited the labor of the nations,45 That they might observe His statutesAnd keep His laws. [m]Praise the Lord! Joy in Forgiveness of Israel’s Sins 106 Praise[n] the Lord! Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. 2 Who can [o]utter the mighty acts of the Lord?Who can declare all His praise?3 Blessed are those who keep justice,And [p]he who does righteousness at all times! 4 Remember me, O Lord, with the favor You have toward Your people.Oh, visit me with Your salvation,5 That I may see the benefit of Your chosen ones,That I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation,That I may glory with [q]Your inheritance. 6 We have sinned with our fathers,We have committed iniquity,We have done wickedly.7 Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your wonders; They did not remember the multitude of Your mercies,But rebelled by the sea—the Red Sea. 8 Nevertheless He saved them for His name’s sake,That He might make His mighty power known.9 He rebuked the Red Sea also, and it dried up;So He led them through the depths,As through the wilderness.10 He saved them from the hand of him who hated them,And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.11 The waters covered their enemies; There was not one of them left.12 Then they believed His words; They sang His praise. 13 They soon forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel,14 But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness,And tested God in the desert.15 And He gave them their request,But sent leanness into their soul. 16 When they envied Moses in the camp,And Aaron the saint of the Lord,17 The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan,And covered the faction of Abiram.18 A fire was kindled in their company; The flame burned up the wicked. 19 They made a calf in Horeb,And worshiped the molded image.20 Thus they changed their gloryInto the image of an ox that eats grass.21 They forgot God their Savior,Who had done great things in Egypt,22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham,Awesome things by the Red Sea.23 Therefore He said that He would destroy them,Had not Moses His chosen one stood before Him in the breach,To turn away His wrath, lest He destroy them. 24 Then they despised the pleasant land; They did not believe His word,25 But complained in their tents,And did not heed the voice of the Lord.26 Therefore He raised His hand in an oath against them,To [r]overthrow them in the wilderness,27 To [s]overthrow their descendants among the [t]nations,And to scatter them in the lands. 28 They joined themselves also to Baal of Peor,And ate sacrifices [u]made to the dead.29 Thus they provoked Him to anger with their deeds,And the plague broke out among them.30 Then Phinehas stood up and intervened,And the plague was stopped.31 And that was accounted to him for righteousnessTo all generations forevermore. 32 They angered Him also at the waters of [v]strife,So that it went ill with Moses on account of them;33 Because they rebelled against His Spirit,So that he spoke rashly with his lips. 34 They did not destroy the peoples,Concerning whom the Lord had commanded them,35 But they mingled with the GentilesAnd learned their works;36 They served their idols,Which became a snare to them.37 They even sacrificed their sonsAnd their daughters to demons,38 And shed innocent blood,The blood of their sons and daughters,Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with blood.39 Thus they [w]were defiled by their own works,And played[x] the harlot by their own deeds. 40 Therefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against His people,So that He abhorred His own inheritance.41 And He gave them into the hand of the Gentiles,And those who hated them ruled over them.42 Their enemies also oppressed them,And they were brought into subjection under their hand.43 Many times He delivered them; But they rebelled in their counsel,And were brought low for their iniquity. 44 Nevertheless He regarded their affliction,When He heard their cry;45 And for their sake He remembered His covenant,And relented according to the multitude of His mercies.46 He also made them to be pitiedBy all those who carried them away captive. 47 Save us, O Lord our God,And gather us from among the Gentiles,To give thanks to Your holy name,To triumph in Your praise. 48 Blessed be the Lord God of IsraelFrom everlasting to everlasting! And let all the people say, “Amen!”

The Blessedness of Answered Prayer A Psalm. A Song at the dedication of the house of David. 30 I will extol You, O Lord, for You have lifted me up,And have not let my foes rejoice over me.2 O Lord my God, I cried out to You,And You healed me.3 O Lord, You brought my soul up from the grave; You have kept me alive, [f]that I should not go down to the pit. 4 Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His,And give thanks at the remembrance of [g]His holy name.5 For His anger is but for a moment,His favor is for life;Weeping may endure for a night,But [h]joy comes in the morning. 6 Now in my prosperity I said,“I shall never be [i]moved.”7 Lord, by Your favor You have made my mountain stand strong; You hid Your face, and I was troubled. 8 I cried out to You, O Lord; And to the Lord I made supplication:9 “What profit is there in my blood,When I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise You?Will it declare Your truth?10 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on me;Lord, be my helper!” 11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off [j]my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness,12 To the end that my [k]glory may sing praise to You and not be silent.O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever. The Lord a Fortress in Adversity To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. 31 In You, O Lord, I [l]put my trust;Let me never be ashamed;Deliver me in Your righteousness.2 Bow down Your ear to me,Deliver me speedily;Be my rock of [m]refuge,A [n]fortress of defense to save me. 3 For You are my rock and my fortress; Therefore, for Your name’s sake,Lead me and guide me.4 Pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me,For You are my strength.5 Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth. 6 I have hated those who regard useless idols; But I trust in the Lord.7 I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy,For You have considered my trouble; You have known my soul in [o]adversities,8 And have not shut[p] me up into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a wide place. 9 Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am in trouble; My eye wastes away with grief,Yes, my soul and my [q]body!10 For my life is spent with grief,And my years with sighing; My strength fails because of my iniquity,And my bones waste away.11 I am a [r]reproach among all my enemies,But especially among my neighbors,And am repulsive to my acquaintances; Those who see me outside flee from me.12 I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind;I am like a [s]broken vessel.13 For I hear the slander of many;Fear is on every side; While they take counsel together against me,They scheme to take away my life. 14 But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord;I say, “You are my God.”15 My times are in Your hand;Deliver me from the hand of my enemies,And from those who persecute me.16 Make Your face shine upon Your servant;Save me for Your mercies’ sake.17 Do not let me be ashamed, O Lord, for I have called upon You;Let the wicked be ashamed;Let them be silent in the grave.18 Let the lying lips be put to silence,Which speak insolent things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous. 19 Oh, how great is Your goodness,Which You have laid up for those who fear You,Which You have prepared for those who trust in YouIn the presence of the sons of men!20 You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presenceFrom the plots of man;You shall keep them secretly in a [t]pavilionFrom the strife of tongues. 21 Blessed be the Lord,For He has shown me His marvelous kindness in a [u]strong city!22 For I said in my haste,“I am cut off from before Your eyes”;Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplicationsWhen I cried out to You. 23 Oh, love the Lord, all you His saints! For the Lord preserves the faithful,And fully repays the proud person.24 Be of good courage,And He shall strengthen your heart,All you who hope in the Lord.

God Wants To Open Your Heart! John 1:1-5 (NASB) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life [g2222 Zoe; God's life], and the life was the Light [g5457 phos; daylight] of men. John 1:14, 17 (NASB) And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. 17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. Luke 2:21-32 (NASB) When eight days had passed, before His circumcision, His name was then called Jesus, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. 22 And when the days for their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "Every firstborn male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord"), 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what was said in the Law of the Lord, "A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons." 25 And there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon [one who hears - obeys and is heard]; and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation [comfort] of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26 And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27 And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to carry out for Him the custom of the Law, 28 then he took Him into his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29 "Now Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace, According to Your word; 30 For my eyes have seen Your salvation, 31 Which You have prepared in the presence of all peoples, 32 A Light of revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel." An Open Heart Gets Filled! Luke 2:33-35 (NASB) And His father and mother were amazed at the things which were being said about Him. 34 And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, "Behold, this Child is appointed for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign to be opposed - 35 and a sword will pierce even your own soul - to the end that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed." An Open Heart Is Valuable & Useful! Luke 2:36-38 (NASB) And there was a prophetess, Anna [gracious, grace] the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years and had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, 37 and then as a widow to the age of eighty-four. She never left the temple, serving night and day with fastings and prayers. 38 At that very moment, she came up and began giving thanks to God, and continued to speak of Him [picking up where Simeon left off] to all those who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. An Open Heart Is A Satisfied Heart! Every day God is longing to open your heart So He can Fill you, Use you, and Satisfy you. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/spiritlifechurch/message

Psalms 31: 1 In You, O Lord, I put my trust; Let me never be ashamed; Deliver me in Your righteousness. 2 Bow down Your ear to me, Deliver me speedily; Be my rock of refuge, A fortress of defense to save me. 3 For You are my rock and my fortress; Therefore, for Your name’s sake, Lead me and guide me. 4 Pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me, For You are my strength. 5 Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth. 6 I have hated those who regard useless idols; But I trust in the Lord. 7 I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy, For You have considered my trouble; You have known my soul in adversities, 8 And have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a wide place. 9 Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am in trouble; My eye wastes away with grief, Yes, my soul and my body! 10 For my life is spent with grief, And my years with sighing; My strength fails because of my iniquity, And my bones waste away. 11 I am a reproach among all my enemies, But especially among my neighbors, And am repulsive to my acquaintances; Those who see me outside flee from me. 12 I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind; I am like a broken vessel. 13 For I hear the slander of many; Fear is on every side; While they take counsel together against me, They scheme to take away my life. 14 But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” 15 My times are in Your hand; Deliver me from the hand of my enemies, And from those who persecute me. 16 Make Your face shine upon Your servant; Save me for Your mercies’ sake. 17 Do not let me be ashamed, O Lord, for I have called upon You; Let the wicked be ashamed; Let them be silent in the grave. 18 Let the lying lips be put to silence, Which speak insolent things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous. 19 Oh, how great is Your goodness, Which You have laid up for those who fear You, Which You have prepared for those who trust in You In the presence of the sons of men! 20 You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence From the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion From the strife of tongues. 21 Blessed be the Lord, For He has shown me His marvelous kindness in a strong city! 22 For I said in my haste, “I am cut off from before Your eyes”; Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications When I cried out to You. 23 Oh, love the Lord, all you His saints! For the Lord preserves the faithful, And fully repays the proud person. 24 Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the Lord.

Lesson of the episode: Choose your present!   Jan and Monika Zands introduce this month’s topic, which is: You are here now! That  brings the question of Who are you? Which “You” is the one here today? We usually get comfortable being whoever we have been being, and as everybody knows us, but we can get to create whoever we want to be every single time. What if everytime you start and do something you have the choice to decide who you want to be?             The main source of human suffering is wishing things were different than what they actually are. Right now there is nothing you can do to change it, you can either chose it or suffer.  But how can you chose it? Often the reality we get is not what we are expecting, the upset comes when we suppose our reality should be different.             Practice with Jan and Monika: Write down 10 things that you wish were different in your life. Pick the one that impacts you the most. Close your eyes and look at your life. Imagine the movie theater of your life. You are in the movie, your feelings, your circumstances. Now roll the movie back, and go to a time before you felt that way. How was your life then? Now imagine yourself before this upset existed, how do you feel? Now give yourself a little care to prepare yourself for what was going to happen, and play it forward and get back, but tapping into the love you have given to yourself. Create a new ending, chose a different end for the future, free yourself and perceive how do you feel when things turn out the exact way you wanted. Ask yourself: How did this transform you?   Be present, be first, and then invite the world to who you are. The expectations have been made up by us, but things are already the way they should be. Own your present! Choose it! This way we remove suffering and add love!   Key Insights and Ahas: Ask the Universe what you are looking for, so it can be provided to you. The biggest source of human suffering is wishing that something was different than the way that it is. Most of the time upsets are the results of misunderstandings.   Resources: MonikaZands.com
