Last week, my daughter graduated from Loyola University Chicago. After years of watching her build a life—on the field, on the sidelines, in the center of the action—she's stepping into the real world. And like so many graduates right now, she's walking in with drive, uncertainty, and a digital footprint that started long before her first job offer. This episode is a message to her—and to every graduate who needs a little direction that's not sugarcoated. It's a life list. The same one I've given my own kids (sometimes more than once). The same one I use with clients in crisis. In this episode:The top three questions students (and parents) ask me after every keynoteWhy your degree matters less than how well you can read a roomThe habits and mindsets that actually keep reputations intactWhat to say in your first “I don't know what to do” moment at workAnd the one thing every Gen Z grad needs to hear—especially those shaped by the pandemic yearsThis is not motivational filler. It's a real list for the real world. Send it to your grad. Save it for your kid. Or come back to it when your own clarity runs low.Read the entire list here on my PR Breakdown Substack: What No One Tells New Grads About Crisis Communication (And Life) Want More Behind the Breakdown? I'm thrilled to share this episode I recorded with Chris and Lori for their podcast, The Chris Harder Show. Their exciting “Just Like You” series features women who've taken the leap into their dream lives and careers—real, relatable women who are just a few steps ahead on their journey. I'm in such good company in this series!Chris and Lori had me on to share my origin story and how it informs my approach to teaching women how to lose weight for the last time, especially when they're in the thick of self-doubt, body image struggles, and trying to find a way to finally make lasting changes. You'll hear about the defining moment I had just six weeks postpartum, where I found myself in the bathroom, fresh from a NICU experience with my daughter Luna. In that powerful moment, I decided to break free from the cycle of self-criticism and truly heal her relationship with my body and food. That decision wasn't just for myself, but for my daughter—and for all of us struggling with the same inner battles.Chris and Lori did a deep dive into my process for teaching women weight loss, and I hope you find it eye-opening! Joy is a huge part of losing weight for the last time. You'll get insight on cracking the code to balance your hunger hormones, stop emotional eating, and most importantly, shift your mindset to foster lasting habit change. Listen to hear the full breakdown, but spoiler alert: it's not about a perfect diet or crazy workouts! It's more about:How making your personal growth journey fun is not just important, it's essentialThe huge impact of community on women's successful weight lossWhy traditional dieting does not workAnd mama, if this episode speaks to you, let's have a chat. As a Type-A overachiever and recovering perfectionist, I will come clean about something:I often override my body's signals to get one more thing done. How does this look in real life? • It may be squeezing in another hour of work when I am tired and know I should go to bed.• It may be me being consistently late for appointments which causes my heart to race.• It may be me crashing into the couch on Friday evenings because I didn't take enough breaks for rest and play during the week. Does this resonate? When we wear the badge of busy, we can often neglect our health and well-being. My guest today, Dr. Susan Lovelle, explains why it is time for us to invest in our health and well-being as much as we do in our careers. During our conversation, Dr. Susan and I chatted about:The building blocks for optimized health and well-beingThe signs and symptoms that may pop up when your well-being is out of whackWhat benefits are for us and our companies when we are in a balanced state of performanceWhat the LeanHormone Metabolic Reset is and how it worksWhat the Hormones in Heels Masterclass is and how it leads deeper into Dr. Susan's workAnd we touched on Dr. Susan's book, Thrive: The Five-Week Guide to Mastering Your Energy at Any AgeThere's a lot of powerful information that we packed into this interview, so listen in!
Send us a Text Message. It's so easy when you're invited to deliver a presentation to forget to check in advance the venue that you are going to be speaking at in terms of the size of the room, the equipment available and the seating for the audience.I witnessed this firsthand recently at a business event. It was a big breakfast style event with 180 people squeezed into a rectangular space. There were a few sponsor type speakers who in return for sponsoring the event had been offered a 5 to 10 minute slot.I suspect none of them prior to the event checked the equipment that was going to be available to them, particularly in terms of the screen and the microphone. The screen was a big TV on wheels which was fine if you were sitting close to the where the speaker was standing but for the rest of audience (about 80%) the screen wasn't within their line of view.So when the speakers used either slides or videos the vast majority of their audience could not see what they were showing and for the videos the audio was just coming out through the screen. So check:Screen size, positioning, video audio and clickerMicrophoneSpeaking position in relation to audience. I'm in the Business Vision Workshop right now and I want to talk about something real quick. My dad was a janitor growing up but he had this incredible entrepreneurial streak – obviously, I took after him. He owned his own janitorial services business and whenever he would hire people, he has this 2-step formula for training people.—Step 1: They would just watch him do the work—Step 2: He would watch them do the workAnd then they would be on their own. But they would learn the tricks to being more efficient to do the work. I love that analogy of watching somebody do it and have them watch you do it. And in terms of real estate, I teach and coach people how to do deals and the most effective way I've found is have people watch me go into a market, do the research of a county, pull up a list of sellers, put a marketing plan in place, do some cold calling and make offers.I have this program called the Inner Circle. There's nothing like this program out there and here, it's all about me watching YOU do all the stuff. You will be getting my support, coaching, resources, software, lead – and even MY MONEY! You will get my workshop bundle that includes all of my previous life marketing masterclass recordings, my brand-new land fast start masterclass, my coaching and funding on your deals if you JOIN THE INNER CIRCLE. It's only $1 for the 7-day membership trial but you get the workshop bundle and so much more!Got to JoeMcCall.com/freeworkshops to see all the inclusions and to sign up!What's Inside:—2-step formula for effectively training new people—My Inner Circle program—Sneak peak into the workshop bundle

Turns out “Work Hard, Play Hard” may be way more scientifically sound than any of us thought. As a responsible adult, chances are your struggle is likely in the playing part. You've got all caught up with work, chores, maybe raising kids, and the seriousness of life's various obstacles. And the last thing you want to hear is that you should be adding more to your list and generally be more positive. Why? Why does it even matter beyond the obvious feel-good mushy stuff?Elaine O'Brien, renowned fitness and positive psychology leader, is on the show today to walk us through the impact that play has on our lives and even our work. There are huge benefits you're missing out on if you're not playing. Particularly, you're missing out on a tool that actually helps you deal with the really hard things in life.Elaine's inspiring work in advancing mental health and physical fitness has transformed the lives of thousands. It has shown that play has the power to provide us with a mental and emotional cushion when dealing with life's crises. This episode is a re-release from earlier in the season whilst I take a break over summer. ADHD is an invisible disorder that is often misdiagnosed, undiagnosed or sometimes masked from boss's and peers. This episode is in the top 3 of most downloaded episodes which suggests the latent hunger for a better understanding about this condition. Brooke Schnittman joins me on this episode to tell us about her journey to becoming an ADHD Coach. Brooke started out as a special education teacher working with students with ADHD disability and the whole time didn't know that she herself had ADHD. In an effort to make a bigger impact, she found ADHD coaching and now works with a team of coaches currently on a path to help 10 million individuals with ADHD over the next 5 years. We cover:The negative messaging about ADHD from various sourcesHow many women with ADHD go undiagnosed and whyPeople with invisible conditions like ADHD face unique challenges at workAnd how boss's can retain staff with ADHDAs Brooke says, "People with an invisible disorder very often do that because they're afraid to show their true colours and be themselves." Welcome to foHRsight – a podcast about making work better brought to you by future foHRward.Bossware, workplace spyware or tattleware is another one of those trends we've seen emerge in recent years. We share background to a Canadian case in January where an employee was ordered to pay a fine for time theft that was picked up through monitoring software.https://decisions.civilresolutionbc.ca/crt/crtd/en/item/523029/index.doWhile there are elements of monitoring that can be helpful when it comes to individual productivity, we express our concern about the evasiveness of this sort of technology and how it can be abused by companies. Our view is that the bigger challenge is around measuring productivity and we point to the research from Microsoft report and their term productivity paranoia (see below), but we do challenge ourselves to explore any benefits it can provide. Spoiler alert … there aren't many and we're fans of macromanagement! Here is a link to the Microsoft report on Productivity Paranoiahttps://www.microsoft.com/en-us/worklab/work-trend-index/hybrid-work-is-just-workAnd to the idea of micromanagementhttps://www.fastcompany.com/90832818/how-to-be-a-macromanager-and-why-you-need-toQuick reminderDon't forget to sign up for our weekly newsletter foHRsight at www.futurefoHRward.com/foHRsight.Follow us on LinkedIn:Mark - www.linkedin.com/in/markedgarhr/Naomi - www.linkedin.com/in/naomititlemancolla/future foHRward - www.linkedin.com/company/future-fohrward/And on Instagram - www.instagram.com/futurefohrward/And finally big shout out to our Producer Emily Milling at The Ultimate Creative for making us sound great! And while I hope that comes across, I recognize this episode is meant to challenge people's ideals about spirituality and to help you find your own connection to spirit. Whatever that means for you. GEORGE: So just for a recap, way back, this goes a couple of years back, so the first episode was 20 – 100 New Martial Arts Students in 5 Weeks Without Sleazy Selling. We got back together on 115 – The Strategic Mindset Behind Running 23 Successful Martial Arts Schools. And then, 129 – Success By Design – Foundations Required To Setup Your Next Profitable Location. So today, we're getting back together and it's a bit of a follow-up from the process of talking about The Next Profitable location. And we were discussing The Next Profitable Location Blueprint. Today, we're going to do a bit of a deep dive. And one question that comes up a lot is, what are the things to look for when you set up your new location? And so, in the course that we created, The Next Profitable Location Blueprint, we've got a worksheet that you can download at this episode. So, depending where you're watching or listening, it's at martialartsmedia.com/131, the numbers 131. And it's called The Location Analyzer Checklist. We're not going to dive deep into Kevin's story. You're going to have to go through all those podcasts I just mentioned. So, we're going to dive straight into the good stuff. Are you happy with that, Kevin? KEVIN: That'd be great, George. GEORGE: All right, perfect. So, we've got The Location Analyzer Checklist in front of us, and these are 13 steps altogether, things that you should be checking out for when setting up your next location. And we're just got to go top to bottom. We'll probably have time for about the first 10. And we're just going to discuss them and jump straight in. All right. So, Kevin, so Location Analyzer Checklist, if we start from the top. Number one, think with my head and not with my heart...
If you're working on weekends, answering emails at 3am, and taking work calls while in bed, this episode is for you. It's great to be ambitious, motivated, and hard-working. The problem is that our society takes it too far. We let our value and sense of self-worth be determined by how much money we make and how much time we spend at the office. The more hours we spend working, the better we feel about ourselves… but it's actually not good for us. We end up working ourselves into the ground until we can't work anymore. Work addiction keeps us from experiencing passion and joy in what we have to offer for this world. Being busy, hustling, and making sure that we're always working as hard as possible is detrimental to our mental health and overall, how we experience this journey called life.In this week's episode, I sit down with my FIRST-EVER returning guest, Jess Takimoto, to discuss this topic. Jess is a fitness entrepreneur and strong body confidence advocate. She started her company, SHINE, 2 years ago to change the narrative around fitness, body image, and health. To date, SHINE has changed over 1,000 lives. Jess is also a Queen's Commerce graduate, Chancellor's Scholarship recipient, and CanFitPro certified fitness professional. To find out more or connect with Jess, connect with her on Instagram at @jesstakimotofitness.Both Jess and I have experienced severe issues with work addiction. In fact, I still am! But both of us are working on how NOT to work so hard and want to share our where we are at in our journeys. In more detail, we discuss: The reasons why people are addicted to workCyclical burnoutThe consequences of being addicted to workHow one can break their addiction to workAnd more!Connect with me:Email: hailey.rodgers@hotmail.comPersonal Instagram: @haileyrodddgersPodcast Instagram: @seemeshowpodI'm always looking for guests so please reach out to me through any of these channels and I'd be happy to discuss a potential episode :)

Psalm 104-106 New King James Version Praise to the Sovereign Lord for His Creation and Providence 104 Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, You are very great:You are clothed with honor and majesty,2 Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment,Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain. 3 He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters,Who makes the clouds His chariot,Who walks on the wings of the wind,4 Who makes His angels spirits,His [a]ministers a flame of fire. 5 You who [b]laid the foundations of the earth,So that it should not be moved forever,6 You covered it with the deep as with a garment; The waters stood above the mountains.7 At Your rebuke they fled;At the voice of Your thunder they hastened away.8 [c]They went up over the mountains; They went down into the valleys,To the place which You founded for them.9 You have set a boundary that they may not pass over,That they may not return to cover the earth. 10 He sends the springs into the valleys; They flow among the hills.11 They give drink to every beast of the field; The wild donkeys quench their thirst.12 By them the birds of the heavens have their home; They sing among the branches.13 He waters the hills from His upper chambers; The earth is satisfied with the fruit of Your works. 14 He causes the grass to grow for the cattle,And vegetation for the service of man,That he may bring forth food from the earth,15 And wine that makes glad the heart of man,Oil to make his face shine,And bread which strengthens man’s heart.16 The trees of the Lord are full of sap,The cedars of Lebanon which He planted,17 Where the birds make their nests; The stork has her home in the fir trees.18 The high hills are for the wild goats; The cliffs are a refuge for the rock[d] badgers. 19 He appointed the moon for seasons; The sun knows its going down.20 You make darkness, and it is night,In which all the beasts of the forest creep about.21 The young lions roar after their prey,And seek their food from God.22 When the sun rises, they gather togetherAnd lie down in their dens.23 Man goes out to his workAnd to his labor until the evening. 24 O Lord, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all.The earth is full of Your possessions—25 This great and wide sea,In which are innumerable teeming things,Living things both small and great.26 There the ships sail about; There is that Leviathan[e]Which You have [f]made to play there. 27 These all wait for You,That You may give them their food in due season.28 What You give them they gather in;You open Your hand, they are filled with good.29 You hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.30 You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; And You renew the face of the earth. 31 May the glory of the Lord endure forever;May the Lord rejoice in His works.32 He looks on the earth, and it trembles; He touches the hills, and they smoke. 33 I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.34 May my meditation be sweet to Him;I will be glad in the Lord.35 May sinners be consumed from the earth,And the wicked be no more. Bless the Lord, O my soul![g]Praise the Lord! The Eternal Faithfulness of the Lord 105 Oh, give thanks to the Lord!Call upon His name;Make known His deeds among the peoples!2 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;Talk of all His wondrous works!3 Glory in His holy name;Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!4 Seek the Lord and His strength;Seek His face evermore!5 Remember His marvelous works which He has done,His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,6 O seed of Abraham His servant,You children of Jacob, His chosen ones! 7 He is the Lord our God;His judgments are in all the earth.8 He remembers His covenant forever,The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,9 The covenant which He made with Abraham,And His oath to Isaac,10 And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,To Israel as an everlasting covenant,11 Saying, “To you I will give the land of CanaanAs the allotment of your inheritance,”12 When they were few in number,Indeed very few, and strangers in it. 13 When they went from one nation to another,From one kingdom to another people,14 He permitted no one to do them wrong;Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes,15 Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones,And do My prophets no harm.” 16 Moreover He called for a famine in the land;He destroyed all the provision of bread.17 He sent a man before them—Joseph—who was sold as a slave.18 They hurt his feet with fetters,[h]He was laid in irons.19 Until the time that his word came to pass,The word of the Lord tested him.20 The king sent and released him,The ruler of the people let him go free.21 He made him lord of his house,And ruler of all his possessions,22 To [i]bind his princes at his pleasure,And teach his elders wisdom. 23 Israel also came into Egypt,And Jacob dwelt in the land of Ham.24 He increased His people greatly,And made them stronger than their enemies.25 He turned their heart to hate His people,To deal craftily with His servants. 26 He sent Moses His servant,And Aaron whom He had chosen.27 They performed His signs among them,And wonders in the land of Ham.28 He sent darkness, and made it dark; And they did not rebel against His word.29 He turned their waters into blood,And killed their fish.30 Their land abounded with frogs,Even in the chambers of their kings.31 He spoke, and there came swarms of flies,And lice in all their territory.32 He gave them hail for rain,And flaming fire in their land.33 He struck their vines also, and their fig trees,And splintered the trees of their territory.34 He spoke, and locusts came,Young locusts without number,35 And ate up all the vegetation in their land,And devoured the fruit of their ground.36 He also [j]destroyed all the firstborn in their land,The first of all their strength. 37 He also brought them out with silver and gold,And there was none feeble among His tribes.38 Egypt was glad when they departed,For the fear of them had fallen upon them.39 He spread a cloud for a covering,And fire to give light in the night.40 The people asked, and He brought quail,And satisfied them with the bread of heaven.41 He opened the rock, and water gushed out;It ran in the dry places like a river. 42 For He remembered His holy promise,And Abraham His servant.43 He brought out His people with joy,His chosen ones with [k]gladness.44 He gave them the lands of the [l]Gentiles,And they inherited the labor of the nations,45 That they might observe His statutesAnd keep His laws. [m]Praise the Lord! Joy in Forgiveness of Israel’s Sins 106 Praise[n] the Lord! Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. 2 Who can [o]utter the mighty acts of the Lord?Who can declare all His praise?3 Blessed are those who keep justice,And [p]he who does righteousness at all times! 4 Remember me, O Lord, with the favor You have toward Your people.Oh, visit me with Your salvation,5 That I may see the benefit of Your chosen ones,That I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation,That I may glory with [q]Your inheritance. 6 We have sinned with our fathers,We have committed iniquity,We have done wickedly.7 Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your wonders; They did not remember the multitude of Your mercies,But rebelled by the sea—the Red Sea. 8 Nevertheless He saved them for His name’s sake,That He might make His mighty power known.9 He rebuked the Red Sea also, and it dried up;So He led them through the depths,As through the wilderness.10 He saved them from the hand of him who hated them,And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.11 The waters covered their enemies; There was not one of them left.12 Then they believed His words; They sang His praise. 13 They soon forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel,14 But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness,And tested God in the desert.15 And He gave them their request,But sent leanness into their soul. 16 When they envied Moses in the camp,And Aaron the saint of the Lord,17 The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan,And covered the faction of Abiram.18 A fire was kindled in their company; The flame burned up the wicked. 19 They made a calf in Horeb,And worshiped the molded image.20 Thus they changed their gloryInto the image of an ox that eats grass.21 They forgot God their Savior,Who had done great things in Egypt,22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham,Awesome things by the Red Sea.23 Therefore He said that He would destroy them,Had not Moses His chosen one stood before Him in the breach,To turn away His wrath, lest He destroy them. 24 Then they despised the pleasant land; They did not believe His word,25 But complained in their tents,And did not heed the voice of the Lord.26 Therefore He raised His hand in an oath against them,To [r]overthrow them in the wilderness,27 To [s]overthrow their descendants among the [t]nations,And to scatter them in the lands. 28 They joined themselves also to Baal of Peor,And ate sacrifices [u]made to the dead.29 Thus they provoked Him to anger with their deeds,And the plague broke out among them.30 Then Phinehas stood up and intervened,And the plague was stopped.31 And that was accounted to him for righteousnessTo all generations forevermore. 32 They angered Him also at the waters of [v]strife,So that it went ill with Moses on account of them;33 Because they rebelled against His Spirit,So that he spoke rashly with his lips. 34 They did not destroy the peoples,Concerning whom the Lord had commanded them,35 But they mingled with the GentilesAnd learned their works;36 They served their idols,Which became a snare to them.37 They even sacrificed their sonsAnd their daughters to demons,38 And shed innocent blood,The blood of their sons and daughters,Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with blood.39 Thus they [w]were defiled by their own works,And played[x] the harlot by their own deeds. 40 Therefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against His people,So that He abhorred His own inheritance.41 And He gave them into the hand of the Gentiles,And those who hated them ruled over them.42 Their enemies also oppressed them,And they were brought into subjection under their hand.43 Many times He delivered them; But they rebelled in their counsel,And were brought low for their iniquity. 44 Nevertheless He regarded their affliction,When He heard their cry;45 And for their sake He remembered His covenant,And relented according to the multitude of His mercies.46 He also made them to be pitiedBy all those who carried them away captive. 47 Save us, O Lord our God,And gather us from among the Gentiles,To give thanks to Your holy name,To triumph in Your praise. 48 Blessed be the Lord God of IsraelFrom everlasting to everlasting! And let all the people say, “Amen!”

We are smack dab in the middle of a series on the 5 undesirable attributes of leadership that any leader can struggle with regardless of position, age, or experience. This is part 3 of 5, so I’d encourage you to listen to episodes 12 and 13 where we discuss the first two attributes that cause busyness - not just for you - but for your team. Regardless if you’re a small business owner with a few employees, or you oversee a lot of people in a large organization, your behaviors will create a ripple effect. And you have to decide if you want that ripple effect to limiting and hurried, Or do you want to create an environment that is positive and empowering? I think you know which way you have to go.Busyness is a tell. It’s a sign that there’s something not right within your organization… more specifically, is there something not right with the way you’re leading your team? Are there some behaviors that you're doing – consciously or unsconsciously – that are creating bottlenecks with communication or decision making? This content is based on coaching from my Unbusy Leader workshops as well as 1:1 coaching with my clientsIn those instances, I’m working closely with them to take a deep dive into the reasons that we feel overly busy, hurried and rushed. It’s frustrating when your team is constantly adjusting to Changing deadlinesFeeling that they have to rush through their workAnd things get overlooked leading to mistakes and re-dosNot being able to give it their best or having to cut cornersThose are examples of how costly busyness an be and why I spend so much time teaching leaders to become less busy and more trusting of teams. That’s a great intro into our topic for the day, the Rescuing leader. So today we’re going to talk about the 3rd type of negative leadership trait that I’m calling the Rescuer. and like before, we’ll look at it from 2 angles:How to identify a RescuerHow the Rescuer contributes to a culture of busyness and the negative impact it creates

It's a good thing Jeff Rossen and I don't share an office. I'd probably talk his ear off all day long. Jeff is the newly named chief national consumer correspondent for Hearst Television. He joined Hearst after a decade at NBC News and "The Today Show," where his franchise, "Rossen Reports," exposed scams, tested products and cost big companies big money when it turned out they weren't delivering on their promises. He's as impossible to ignore in real life as he is on TV. It's an energy that fuels his creative side that even he admits can be exhausting to be around! (I might relate to that.)On this Dying to Ask:How Jeff knew it was the right time to make the leap from NBC to Hearst Television and his advice to anyone thinking about pivoting from an established careerThe role a chimpanzee played in his rise to getting noticed at a network and, ultimately, created his niche as a consumer reporter and his award-winning franchise, "Rossen Reports"What Jeff does in his free time that he says creates the only space in his life where he's not thinking about workAnd proof Hearst's new chief national consumer correspondent might have a solid second career as a relationship expert!

Hey everyone and welcome to the Photo Forward podcast, where we dive in deep each week on the art of visual storytelling, exploring the stories behind some of the greatest photographers in the world. From their origin stories to finding balance as creative professionals, to how to actually make a living as a photographer, videographer, or multimedia creator – I’m your host, Ben BrewerSo, this is a special little in-betweenisode, introducing a new ongoing series on this show. Now, one of the biggest reasons I’m undertaking this show was...well...thinking about my own work. Let me explain. When I started out in the field of photography and photojournalism, interning at whatever newspaper would take me, whatever freelance outlet I could get my grubby little photographer hands on… I was so fuckin’ lost. (Not to say that feeling has subsided over the years to where I’m at today, but it’s certainly evolved in different ways)I say “fuckin’ lost” because, as a photographer just starting out, I was missing FOUR big things:Exposure to the world of professional photographers (This was 2008, after all)Foresight about what pitfalls and mistakes to avoidCritique of my workAnd a true, honest-to-god coach and mentorSo, part of what Photo Forward sets out to do, and what I think the format has excelled at is really the first two – sharing the visual storytelling community and enlightening the photographic world… in the words of Otto Von Bismarck “Only a fool learns from his own mistakes. The wise man learns from the mistakes of others.”But where we really haven’t gone yet are those critical last two points, critique and coaching. Arguable the most impactful way I’ve grown as a photojournalist. That’s why I’m so excited to share a new feature on Photo Forward, a segment I’m calling “Push|Pull” (All you film buffs out there will appreciate that reference)"Push|Pull" is a periodic Q/A or AMA (ask me anything) style segment where I’m going to do real, unscripted critique and coaching taped podcast episodes with YOU Photo forward listeners.Want an honest critique of your portfolio or recent photo project you’ve been workshopping? Or maybe you’ve got questions about your photography career and where you want to grow as a visual creator? Or maybe you’re a freelancer feeling a bit isolated from the photo community and just want to shoot the shit with a fellow visual storyteller and talk shop for a bit. Wherever you the audience want to take "Push|Pull", Let’s go there. So here’s how this is going to work in real life: Because I want to give everyone a fair shot at getting featured on "Push|Pull" and to have their questions answered, we’re going to run this through Instagram. Start by following my Instagram page at BBrewerPhoto. And, when I go live (instagram story?) on Instagram Stories and start talking about "Push|Pull", just send me a Direct Message with your Skype ID or email. The first THREE people who send me their deets on each IG story will get to be the lucky few for that Month’s "Push|Pull" episode (as long as you agree to have us record our conversation. Duh.)And that’s really all there is to it! It’s kind of an experiment for this show, but I know it’s got the potential to help out a lot of photographers who might be feeling a similar kind of “fucking lost” that I’ve been through over the years. So, to recap, make sure you’re following @BBrewerPhoto on Instagram and keep your eyes peeled for IG stories on "Push|Pull", and when they come up, hit me up with a DM to get coaching!Anyways, that is all for today my Photo Forward people. I hope you are as excited about this expansion to the show as I am creating it. We’re gonna do some awesome shit, I know it. So, as always: Keep seeing, keep shooting, and keep putting your Best Photo Forward. See you all soon.
“When we’re in struggle, that’s when our shadow and demons show up and dance.” What happens when you experience a huge failure in business? For many entrepreneurs, failure brings dark times. We’re so used to wrapping our identity around what we do that when things don’t work out, our self-worth plummets. This episode’s guest found herself in this exact situation - putting herself in $5 million of personal debt. In fact, her situation was so challenging, she found herself in a place where she felt she was worth more dead than she was alive. This is the dark side of entrepreneurship - a side that’s not often spoken about in public, but it’s a time when business owners need the most support. So after coming out of the other side of failure, Kelly wrote Lost in Startuplandia: Wayfinding for the Weary Entrepreneur - a book written to share her own experiences and insights about the start-up journey. So if you’re struggling with failure and you need a boost to help you navigate this all-too-common phase of entrepreneurship, this episode is for you. Tune in now to discover the possibilities that arise when you embrace what failure has to teach you - and how you can survive and thrive, even when you feel knocked down. “Failure itself is not the problem, it’s our relationship with failure. It’s how we hold it, it’s how we define it, or how we let it define us.” When it comes to business success and failure, Kelly has experienced both sides of the spectrum. Kelly is a serial tech entrepreneur, artist, angel investor, and mother of two. She’s the co-founder of Custom Reality Services, a virtual reality (VR) production company whose first two projects, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. She’s also the recipient of the Silvertip PwC Entrepreneurship Award and Speech Technology’s Luminary Award.Check out this episode and discover: The predictable traps for failure - and how to navigate themThe reason YOU get to define what failure meansWhy we’re all liars and how honesty can set you freeHow a brain injury transformed Kelly’s mindset for life [and inspired her to write her book]What to watch for when sharing your truth with othersThe dangers of basing your self-worth on your workAnd more…Kelly experienced spectacular failure, but survived to tell the tale! In fact, she’s emerged stronger and more courageous as a result of her experiences. Kelly’s story is a reminder that failure in business doesn’t mean the end of the road. Instead, it can be the catalyst for a rebirth and a life lived in more alignment with who you are. Don’t miss this one. “We can succeed in the cultural definition of success with money and fail as a human being. Visit http://preeminence.tv to download your free Guide to become known as the Preeminent Expert in your industry. So many people I have met and even many I have coached have had challenges charging 1,000, 5,000, 10,000 or 25,000 for their services. As a matter of fact, many of them are giving their magic away for $47, $197 or actually giving it away for free. That was me. I thought - I love doing this and I get paid in the connection and the satisfaction from seeing people transform, get relief and move on and move up in their life. These weren’t just close friends, these were people whom I had never met, they just messaged me on facebook or were introduced to me by a mutual friend. They asked me for help and I would take the next hour or more helping them over the phone or making screen capture - walkthrough videos to show them how to work a piece of software or other technical things I would make a video for them. And, I wouldn’t charge anything for it. I sold my programs for $47 - $97. I made $24,000 with my online work back in 2011 - barely surviving. I had to work side jobs to make it workAnd guess how many people completed my programs? Hardly any. Why?They were not invested in themselves. You see, most of what we are given in life for free, we don’t value. They don’t value it because we don’t put a value on it. We give away our gift, our magic. But, what if a stranger came up to you and asked you to pack up and move their four-bedroom house for the next few hours, or clean out a cow barn in 100-degree heat or to peel 300 potatoes - would you do that for free? Why not?Aren’t you helping people? Aren’t you using the gift of your strength, maybe your care or organization? Why would you now demand to be paid for THAT kind of work? It wasn’t until my coach had me consider that when I am giving my time away, I’m actually stealing from my family. I was away from them, doing work, but then valuing the time of a stranger for free over the time I could be with my family… Hmmm. So, giving away time now equaled, “stealing from my family” - this was a game-changer for meI want you to do something for me.Start charging more for the things you enjoy the most. Do this because you will give the most of you when you are in fulfillment, when you are on-mission, when you are in a space of joy of service. And when you begin valuing your time, others will too. Those who want your genius for free are taking advantage of your unwillingness to charge. If you are ready to move to the next level and work yourself out of another job, like producing your podcast, shooting and editing your videos, creating your landing pages, or publishing your book, reach out to me and save yourself days of your life so you can get back to focusing on your area of mastery. Welcome to a slightly different PRmoment podcast. This week we're going to be doing a year in review of 2018. The show will be divided up into three parts. First up, we have Alice Weightman, founder and CEO of Hanson Search, who's going to talk to us about the PR talent market in 2018. Then we have PRCA director general Francis Ingham, who’ll be giving us a wider perspective about the health of the sector over the past 12 months. Finally, we have Taylor Herring co-founder James Herring guving us his perspective on the most interesting pieces of work over the past year. Here’s a summary of what Alice and I talked about:The “busyness” barometer of the UK PR sector in the last 12 monthsThe impact of Brexit on PR recruitmentHow the shift from retainer work to project work has affected the recruitment market How 2018 started with a lot of focus on senior hires in PR, but this then fell away over the summerThe trend of talent going client-side in 2018How the continuing divergence of PR practice is splitting the talent market in twoTo what extent management consultants are hiring in great PR talentThe trend of PR firms hiring business consultants in 2018Alice reveals the types of positions that are in most demand in 2018Alice discusses the potential negative impact of a bad hire at a senior levelWhy independent firms are hiring different people from the larger groupsWhy hiring trends in PR are in a period of change and evolutionWhy the rise of freelancers is disrupting the business model for PR markets such as healthcareWhy a lack of flexible working is driving people towards freelance workAnd here is a summary of what Francis Ingham and I discuss: A perspective on the financial state of the global PR sectorHow UK PR is powering ahead financiallyWhat have been the biggest challenges for PR in 2019How talent and evaluation have again been PR's greatest challenges in 2018Why the large, mid-size and small agencies have all had different types of problems in 2018Why mid-size generalist PR firms are having a tough timeThe advantages that independent agencies have over the holding companiesWhether Francis thinks that PR is winning market share from the advertising sectorFrancis questions whether PR has overemphasised its over-servicing problemWhy Francis believes there is an intrinsic link between PR's evaluation problem, its inability to charge more and its growth-limiting talent problem. And lastly, James Herring co-founder of Taylor Herring, gives us his top five campaigns of 2018.

It's too early in the morning and I am podcasting after finishing an episode of the Renaissance Festival podcast dedicated to pirates. Songs: "Irish Rover" by Sligo Rags from The Night Before the Morning After "Patriot Game" by Brobdingnagian Bards from Songs of Ireland Notes: Pirate Music and Pirates of the Caribbean Coming back off the road What's with Cats who lie on top of you? Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Black Jack Murphy Live recording from a house concert Irish Roverwords and music traditional In the year of our Lord, eighteen hundred and sixWe set sail from the cold Cobh of Cork.We were sailing away with a cargo of bricksFor the grand city hall of New York.In an elegant craft, she was rigged fore-and-aftAnd oh, how the trade winds drove her.She had twenty-three masts and withstood several blastsAnd they called her the Irish Rover. There was Barney McGee from the banks of the Lee,There was Hogan from County Tyrone. There was Johnny McGurk who was scared stiff of workAnd a chap from West Meade called Mallone. There was Slugger O'Toole who was drunk as a ruleAnd fighting Bill Casey from Dover. And a man Mick McCann from the banks of the BannWas the skipper in the Irish Rover. We had one million bags of the best Sligo ragsWe had two million barrels of bones. We had three million bales of old nanny goats' tails,We had four million barrels of stones. We had five million hogs, we had six million dogs,We had six million barrels of porter. We had eight million sides of old blind horses hides,In the hold of the Irish Rover. We had sailed seven years when the measles broke outAnd the ship lost her way in a fog. (big fog)And the whole of the crew was reduced down to two,Myself and the captain's old dog. (small dog woof)Then the ship struck a rock. Lord, what a shock! Then she heeled right over,She spun nine times around, and the poor old dog was drownedI'm the last of the Irish Rover. Patriot Gamewords and music by Dominic Behan Come all ye young rebels, and list while I sing,For the love of one's country is a terrible thing. It banishes fear with the speed of a flame,And it makes us all part of the patriot game. My name is O'Hanlon, and I've just turned sixteen. My home is in Monaghan, and where I was weanedI learned all my life cruel England's to blame,So now I am part of the patriot game. This Ireland of ours has too long been half free.Six counties lie under John Bull's tyranny. But still De Valera is greatly to blameFor shirking his part in the Patriot game. They told me how Connolly was shot in his chair,His wounds from the fighting all bloody and bare. His fine body twisted, all battered and lameThey soon made me part of the patriot game. It's nearly two years since I wandered awayWith the local battalion of the bold IRA,For I read of our heroes, and wanted the sameTo play out my part in the patriot game. [extra verse I found]I don't mind a bit if I shoot down policeThey are lackeys for war never guardians of peaceAnd yet at deserters I'm never let aimThe rebels who sold out the patriot game And now as I lie here, my body all holesI think of those traitors who bargained in soulsAnd I wish that my rifle had given the sameTo those Quislings who sold out the patriot game.
