Jess is joined by the cellist Abel Selaocoe, a member of the Manchester Collective whose performances take in everything from chamber music to beatboxing. He and share tracks including a radical interpretation of Biber's Battalia and another war-themed piece in Britten's Sinfonia da Requiem, symphonies by Mozart and Penderecki, plus music by John Adams and the Youngblood Brass Band.

Diese Band ist nach meiner persönlichen Meinung die absolut weltbeste Jazz-Hip-Hop-Pop-Brassband Die Band wurde vor 20 Jahren in den USA, in Wisconsin gegründet. Diese Band mischt in einzigartiger Weise Hip-Hop, Jazz, Funk, Pop, dazu Rap - sie hat einen eigenen Stil kreiert und damit wurde sie seit ihrer Gründung vor 20 Jahren zur weltweit führenden Band der BrassBandSzene. Überall orientieren sich Brassbands nach dieser herausragenden Band Aber diese hier ist einzigartig. Die Youngblood Brass Band hat einen herausragenden Arrangeur Nat McIntosh (er spielt Sousaphone) Und dazu weitere 9 Spitzenmusiker: 2 Trompeten, 2 Saxophone, 2 Posaunen, 3 Schlagzeuger und eben ein Sousaphon. Die Musiker aber leben mittlerweile verstreut über die gesamten Vereinigten Staaten. Für die Europatour wurde ein neues Album produziert und jetzt touren sie noch mehr als ein Monat in Europa mit Konzerten in der Schweiz, Deutschland, Belgien, England, Holland sogar nach Schottland und Frankreich. In Anbetracht der aktuellen Tour wollte ich die Band unbedingt vorstellen, damit du dir, wenn sie in deine Nähe kommt, die Band unbedingt anhörst. Und dazu habe ich gestern vor dem Konzert in Salzburg natürlich den herausragenden Saxofonisten der Band interviewt, den Amerikaner Zach Lucas. In einer Jazz- oder New-Orleans-Brass-Band zu spielen ist grundsätzlich nicht einfach: man spielt das gesamte Programm auswendig. Die Arrangements der YBB sind aber dazu noch extrem kompliziert im Ablauf und auch technisch extrem schwierig. Dazu hören sich Saxofonisten in solch großen Brassbands relativ schlecht, weil Posaunen und Trompeten meist stärker klingen.
