It is day eight of our 12 Nightmares Before Christmas. At 5:45 a.m. on May 12, 2005, Michael Ross woke up and got out of bed as usual. It was a partly cloudy morning in Somers, Connecticut, and the day would be warm and pleasant. At 6:00 a.m., Michael had oatmeal for breakfast, then watched television and read the newspaper. After reading for a while, he received communion from a Catholic priest. The day was going well—pretty typical for him, actually. He visited with family and friends in the afternoon for a few hours. The only thing unusual about Michael's dinner of turkey a la king, rice, fruit, mixed vegetables, and white bread was that it would be his last because, a few hours later, Michael Ross was executed by the state of Connecticut. It was the first execution in the state of Connecticut since Joseph “Mad Dog” Taborsky was electrocuted in 1960. When Michael Ross Albert recently bought a condo in Toronto, he realized that the dream of homeownership is more like a nightmare. The Canadian playwright was inspired by his own and his friends' experiences of homeownership to write his new play, “The Bidding War.” The dark comedy chronicles several Torontonians trying to purchase the “last nice home” in the city. He joins Tom Power in the Q studio to discuss why our senses of hope and ambition get wrapped up into the search for a home and the current housing crisis that so many Canadians are facing.
They say that the best place to hide is in plain sight and that is just what Michael Ross did. Raised on a chicken farm by 2 abusive parents he would go on to be the guy that your mother warned you about. In this episode of “Talk About Las Vegas With Ira,” Michael talks about his love of big band music as a teenager; when he was 16, he heard Michael Bublé for the first time; why he was an anomaly within his own generation; how he sees himself as an “old soul”; why he loves to sing in retirement communities; his decision to move to Las Vegas; his adventures driving 36 hours from Buffalo to Las Vegas with his sound equipment and suits; why he had only one gig on the books but did it for free; how his band teaches him things; how he would get a chance to introduce his music to his contemporaries at wed-dings; when he performs today, he wants to be nostalgic for the older crowd so they can reminisce, and introduce the music to the younger crowd; why he doesn't like to stay with a set list; the importance of discipline; and his strategy for performing in the future. Despite promising to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the 2015 Paris Agreement, many governments maintain low gasoline taxes or even allow citizens to buy gasoline below market prices. UCLA professor Michael Ross explains why it has proven to be so hard to move away from gasoline subsidies and, more generally, why price-based fossil fuel policies are often politically unsustainable.

Everyone deserves access to basic financial services, no matter their political or religious beliefs, yet the list of de-banking victims is growing. Bank of America cancelled the account of Memphis-based Indigenous Advance Ministries, a Christian nonprofit that helps impoverished widows and children in Uganda. The Biden administration violated the First Amendment's guarantee of free speech by pressuring Facebook, Twitter, and Google into silencing dissenting voices on a wide range of hot-button issues. Michael Ross, legal counsel for the Corporate Engagement Team with ADF, addresses these high-profile cases.

How does a person's view of their past shape how they view their future? To what extent do people differ in the degree to which they feel like a single, continuous person across time? What effects does a person's perception of time have on their assessment of injustices? Why aren't there more adversarial collaborations in academia? Is academia generally politically left-leaning? How does lack of political diversity in academia compare to (e.g.) lack of gender or economic diversity? Are liberal or progressive academics openly willing to discriminate against conservative academics when, for example, the latter have opportunities for career advancement? Is anyone in the US actually calling for legal changes around free speech laws, or are they only discussing how people ought to be socially ostracized or punished for expressing certain viewpoints? And is there a meaningful difference between legal and social punishments for those who make illegal or taboo statements? Are we in the midst of an ideological war right now? In this episode of the 'Straight Friendly' podcast, host Michael Ross engaged in a deep and eye-opening conversation with Steve Wiseman, a Jewish gay man about their varying experiences with antisemitism, prejudice, and the LGBTQ+ communities. They also explore the shared experiences of immigration, adapting to new environments, and the power of community. With Steve having experienced a series of antisemitic attacks in the past, both are deeply affected by these experiences and utilize this platform to share their stories. Furthermore, they highlight the importance of kindness and allyship, stressing that allies are found in diverse groups, and not just those with similar views. They underscored their shared belief in the power of community, supporting each other and standing together in the face of discrimination, prejudice, and violence. From their personal struggles to moving global issues, the conversation serves as an important reminder of the shared human experience and the critical need for empathy, compassion, and understanding in our society.
In this episode, we delved into a heartbreaking event that unfolded in June 2023, shedding light on the life of Sarit Ahmed, a young woman whose tragic story touches the depths of the human heart. Through intimate conversations with Sarit's close friends and confidants, we gained in-depth insights into her struggles, hopes, and triumphs. As Sarit's story unfolds, we witness her journey to find acceptance and love in a society that often fails to recognize the beauty of diversity. Sarit's close friend shared their memories of her determination, strength, and unwavering spirit. Together, the guest and host provide a poignant reflection on the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in a culture where conformity can often overshadow authenticity. Michael Ross and his guest navigate the complexities of Sarit's life, exploring the depths of familial relationships, societal expectations, and the pursuit of self-acceptance. 'Straight Friendly' aims to create a safe and inclusive space for crucial conversations, fostering understanding and empathy. Through heartfelt anecdotes, thought-provoking discussions, and a commitment to change, this podcast challenges the status quo and raises awareness about the importance of embracing diversity and fostering acceptance, and honoring Sarit's memory toward a more inclusive and compassionate world.

He was a major influence in both style and tone on Steve Cropper, Reggie Young, and Chips Moman. Clarence was an African-American guitarist who worked with bandleader, Ben Branch, and from there influenced the younger players that saw him live, or watched him in the studio on early Stax, American, and Hi/Royal sessions. Nelson also toured with both James Carr and William Bell in the 60s and 70s. He should be credited as an early adopter of the Telecaster in Memphis, and how he paved the way for others with his funky low string licks, and stuttering bends. The Customer-Base Audit: The First Step on the Journey to Customer Centricity by Peter Fader, Bruce Hardie and Michael Ross About the Book: As a leader in your organization, you will be very familiar with your organization's key financial statements and monthly management reports. You may have spent countless hours discussing budgets and expenditures. But how much time have you spent reflecting on the fact that these revenues are generated by actual customers―the people who pull out their wallets and pay for your products and services? In The Customer-Base Audit: The First Step on the Journey to Customer Centricity, experts Peter Fader, Bruce Hardie, and Michael Ross start you on the path toward really getting to understand your customers' buying behavior as well as the health of your overall customer base. A customer-base audit is a systematic review of the buying behavior of a firm's customers using data captured by its transaction systems. It will help you answer questions such as: How healthy is your customer base? How realistic are your growth objectives? How do your customers differ in terms of their behavior and value? How has the quality of your customers changed over time? What changes in customer behavior lie behind period-to-period changes in firm performance? What is important to your high-value customers? Which products help you acquire and retain your best customers? Fader, Hardie, and Ross present five “lenses” through which an executive can address questions like those above. The answers are often lurking in various parts of the organization, but it is rare to find all the relevant analyses in one place, let alone performed on a regular basis (as an audit should be). Yet without such a basic, systematic understanding of the foundations of the firm's primary source of cash flow, how can executives make informed decisions? Fader, a Wharton professor, is the author of Customer Centricity and coauthor of The Customer Centricity Playbook, both of which have helped businesses radically rethink how they relate to customers. In this first step of the journey, Fader, Hardie, and Ross assist leaders in gaining a fundamental understanding of their customers' buying behavior―and thus their company as a whole. About the Author: Peter S. Fader is the Frances and Pei-Yuan Chia Professor of Marketing at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. His expertise centers around the analysis of behavioral data to understand and forecast customer shopping/purchasing activities. He works with firms from a wide range of industries, such as telecommunications, financial services, gaming/entertainment, retail, and pharmaceuticals. In addition to his various roles and responsibilities at Wharton, Professor Fader is also co-founder of Zodiac, a predictive analytics firm that was sold to Nike in 2018. He then co-founded (and continues to run) Theta to commercialize his more recent work on “customer-based corporate valuation.” Peter is the author of Customer Centricity: Focus on the Right Customers for Strategic Advantage and co-author with Sarah Toms of the book The Customer Centricity Playbook (which was featured on episode 222 of The Marketing Book Podcast in 2019). He has been quoted or featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, The Washington Post, and on NPR, among other media. And, interesting fact – he was a math major at MIT!
