The use of video-recorded consultations in general practice training is a highly valuable educational tool. By reviewing their real-life consultations, registrars can engage in reflective practice and genuinely self-assess their consultation, communication and reasoning skills. Furthermore, video-recorded consultations enable supervisors and educators to assess registrar performance with a level of detail that is not possible through traditional observation. This can result in more focused feedback and a deeper understanding of areas needing improvement. This podcast discusses the medico-legal considerations, including patient consent, data protection, and confidentiality.
Investigations play a critical role in the diagnosis, monitoring and screening for disease in general practice. And the use of such tests is increasing both in Australia and internationally. Supervisors can play a key role is supporting this critical aspect of practice. A number of strategies have been described for the most effective and appropriate use of tests in the general practice setting.
