The Simple Sophisticate - Intelligent Living Paired with Signature Style
The concluding note to readers that author, yoga and meditation instructor Deborah Adele shares in her book Yamas & Niyamas: Exploring Yoga's Ethical Practice includes the wish that they become more skilled participants in the living of their lives. And with the wisdom she shares in her book, she provides them with the tools to do just that. Having shared various insights here on the blog gained from her book, specifically in this post about the simple conscious everyday choice that leads to true fulfillment, and as we conclude the two month-long series of 'new year, new life' as you continued along the way to making the change you set to bring to be as the new year began, I wanted to explore two simple, yet powerfully crucial habits that will make the difference you seek inevitable. A skilled participant. In order to be 'skilled' we must know the skills that would be beneficial to acquire. And in order to embody being a participant in our lives, we must be engaged, we must act, we must take part. While we have covered multiple skills throughout this podcast, here on the blog and in TSLL's books (and will compile and detail them all in a linear approach to cultivating contentment in TSLL's upcoming Contentment Master Class video course), the two skills, I want to talk about today are simple to adopt and when we do, the quality of our life and everydays is amplified for the better: Choose to live instead of wait. In other words, Living vs. Waiting - choose the former. Choose to savor rather than to rush. In other words, Savoring vs. Rushing - again, choose the former. Let's dive into each of these in more detail . . . Check out the Show Notes for this epsiode on TSLL blog - https://thesimplyluxuriouslife.com/podcast375
In this engaging episode of the Unhooked podcast, host Jeremy Lipkowitz and self-leadership coach Jord Cuiper explore personal growth, self-trust, and the courage to embrace change. They examine the 'first mountain syndrome' as a metaphor for a life path lacking joy and fulfilment. The speakers highlight the role of environment on behaviours and goals and the need to align actions with core values. They discuss the significance of setting boundaries and tackling addictions as signals of dissatisfaction. A focal point is the importance of recognizing when one's on the 'wrong mountain' and the bravery required to change paths despite significant investments in the current one. The discussion underscores embracing the unknown and giving one's all to reach one's potential as integral to personal development and an authentic and satisfying life.01:08 The Discomfort in Pursuit of Personal Growth02:22 Exploring the Importance of Environment in Personal Growth04:39 The Impact of Environment on Personal and Business Growth09:02 The Fear of the Unknown and the Courage to Change10:36 The Importance of Courageous Action in Personal Growth20:36 The Impact of Protective Mechanisms on Personal Growth34:33 The Challenge of Setting Boundaries and Speaking Your Truth42:59 Exploring Masculinity: What Does It Mean to Be a Man?46:07 The Importance of Embodiment in Self-Leadership47:06 The Dangers of Spiritual Materialism47:36 The Importance of Ethical Practice in Personal Growth50:05 The Gap Between Knowing and Living Your Values52:00 Redefining Success: Living by Your Highest Values52:29 The Dangers of Pursuing the Wrong Goals01:14:11 The Importance of Personal Growth in Achieving SuccessConnect with Jord:https://www.instagram.com/jordcuiper/https://www.jordcuiper.com/--------Interested in getting 1:1 coaching support? We dig into the link between values and moral injury, and how ethics considerations need to be a central component of leaders' wellbeing and leadership strategies. And Dr. Rushton lays out a structure for how leaders can safeguard ethics and values through leadership and safety infrastructure to support expectations and accountability, practice integration, continuous improvement, and competency building.

Tomorrow Is The Problem PodcastWelcome to the ICA Miami Podcast. Each season, we'll explore familiar concepts from everyday life that we often take for granted. We'll expand these concepts to understand their critical historical and cultural underpinnings and forever change the way you view them.Sound WavesThe focus of this second season is sound as art, music, protest, and violence. An exploration of how sounds shape our experience of the world requires a study of music, but also that of the less explored sonic landscapes that exist outside of the anthropomorphic auditory register. On Listening as an Ethical PracticeFor our season finale we offer hot, crunchy, gooey sounds! We discuss the ethics of sound and how the old lexicons of sound have trained our cognitive biases to hear in racialized, gendered, and classist terms.Time Stamps + Takeaways[0:00] Hearing versus listening, passivity and intentionality. A reading of Claudia Rankine's Citizen.[3:40] Nina Eidsheim talks about the intermaterial vibrational quality of sound as well as the implicated nature of the listener — the receptor as an integral part of sound itself.[7:45] “Figures of sound” — like figures of speech — are susceptible to cognitive biases. Nina explains what this looks like, and how to challenge this in ourselves.[12:02] Hot, cold, crunchy, gooey, explosive sounds? Nina invites us to disrupt our patterns and revisit long-established lexicons.[14:35] Jana Winderen speaks to the sounds of the seas, and while they are quiet, they are by no means silent — and neither are humans — as well as how she records her work.[18:43] We weren't always this loud. Jana shares the destructive impacts of human noise pollution.[22:54] Tina Campt on quiet photographs and the inexistence of silence in the world.[26:43] Black Germans and their relationship to sounds of war was a path to a new sonic modality for Tina. She also speaks to the power of photographs as a tool for control and propaganda.[30:46] Tina reads a photograph, which leads to thoughts on how we consume media.[30:47] Season 2 closes with a quiet encouragement to be intentional in our listening practice and invites listeners to tune in for season 3.Contributors + GuestsNina Sun Eidsheim / Scholar + Professor.Jana Winderen / Artist.Tina Campt / Professor.Donna Honarpisheh / Assistant Curator and Host. This podcast was made in partnership with Podfly Productions.
