Devotion on Struggles and Challenges. “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). There are few guarantees in life — few things of which we can be absolutely sure. … Jesus speaks the words of John 16:33 between the institution of the Lord's Supper and His betrayal and arrest. He promises there are two guarantees in life: tribulation and peace.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him (Psalm 103:11). YOU are priceless and precious. But maybe you don't think of yourself that way … Do not despair, my friend! There is hope! … God loves you with a perfect love.
Throughout the Bible we are reminded that amid our struggles, we persevere in prayer and rejoice in HOPE. This devotion on hope was written by Joy M. Anderson.

A short devotion about Matthew 10:28–31, exploring our perception of sparrows and emphasizing God's love and care for each of us.
Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle (Exodus 40:34). On Christmas Day, many churches will read the Christmas story from one of the Gospels as well as a section of the book of Exodus. On the surface, it sounds like an odd pairing. This devotion explores why this portion of Exodus is often chosen as the Old Testament reading for Christmas. This devotion on struggles and challenges is a hymn study on Abide With Me. Life has a perplexing way of presenting all kinds of challenges and struggles for us. Though we understand that God is with us every moment of our lives, we, as humans, tend to need support, comfort, and encouragement. The hymn, "Abide with Me," reminds us that there will be challenges and obstacles throughout our life, but Jesus has overcome them all and is always with us! Our seasons of life can be much like the seasons of the year. We may have seasons of darkness where it feels as though God is far away and unconnected from what we are going through. These hard seasons may include the loss of a loved one, health challenges, changes in a career, or other things that make life in this world hard.

Devotion on Witnessing, Titus 3:5–6, Galatians 5:22–23. 2 pages. he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, (Titus 3:5–6). But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law (Galatians 5:22–23). Although most of us probably will not be able to surf behind a boat or ride a Hawaiian wave, we can step out of the boat in faith and work in God's kingdom, creating a wondrous wake. O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds. So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, your power to all those to come (Psalm 71:17–18). Sometimes life is hard even for "more mature" Christians. Health issues and sometimes the rounds of doctor visits are never ending. Visits to hospitals and sick friends increase. Visits to the funeral home occur far more often, and even in the "golden years" Christians may suffer attacks from enemies because of their faith. It is difficult to proclaim God's wondrous deeds when we are feeling down and out, but this is just what our souls need. “Behold, I am setting a plumb line in the midst of my people Israel; I will never again pass by them” (Amos 7:8b). I do not know if my human perfectionism is a blessing or a curse, but I do know this — God's holy perfectionism leads to our salvation. He has treasured His creation since the very beginning, to the point of sending His Son to die for us on the cross. Devotion on Comfort and Hope, Winter, Colossians 3:16–17. 2 pages. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him (Colossians 3:16–17). Have you made any New Year's Resolutions? Devotion on Advent, Luke 1. 1 page. Many of us get stressed out during the weeks leading up to Christmas-so much to do, so little time. It doesn't have to be that way. Mary, the mother of Jesus, can be an example for our Christmas preparations. How did Mary prepare when she learned she would have a role in the first Christmas? First Mary humbly submitted to God's plan. Then, she rejoiced as she looked forward to the first Christmas. Devotion on Advent, Christmas, Relationships with others, Service, 1 John 4:9–11. 2 pages. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another (1 John 4:9–11 NIV). As we eagerly await the birth of the Christ Child, our days are filled with preparation. We decorate our Christmas trees and our homes; shop for gifts; send Christmas cards; bake the family-favorite cookies; attend Advent services, choir rehearsals, and program practices; entertain guests; plus a dozen other things! Growing tired and weary from the stress and busyness of the season may cause us to be less than loving. At those times our attention is often focused on getting everything done just perfectly rather than on the Christ Child, whose birth is the real reason for celebration. Devotion on Marriage, Ephesians 5:25, 28. 2 pages. Finding a life-long mate is a gift from God. A marriage is not without its long and tiresome journeys, dusty and dirty roads, and annoying circumstances that may bug or even hurt you. But a loyal husband vows companionship and care, and a peace-filled wife finds comfort in his promise. A life-long union between a husband and his wife brings each spouse comfort and joy. May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. Devotion on Relationship with God, Christian Living, Renewal, Psalm 42:1-2, Psalm 63:1. 1 page. As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God (Psalm 42:1-2). O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water (Psalm 63:1). These words shine a spotlight directly on the need we all have to have our thirst quenched by God. The general activities of our life can make us dry. The stress and anxiety we face can make us dry. Add every weight and sin which clings so closely (Hebrews 12:1) to the mix and our soul can seem pretty parched. Devotion on Leadership, John 10:17-18. 2 pages. For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father (John 10:17-18). Do you remember playing the childhood game, “Follow the Leader”? One person was chosen to lead and all others had to follow the example set by that person. The leader exerted great influence on the behavior of the group. You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother's eye” (Luke 6:41-42). Most of us need to have the Cadillacs of life removed from our eyes because they obscure that on which we should be focusing.
