(This podcast was previously published on May 22, 2021)   Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney  ...   The shepherd watches over the flock of sheep.  He sees the sheep eating away at the grass of the pasture and the shepherd knows they will consume the pasture in a short time and the shepherd begins to look for new grasslands where there will be plenty of food and water for the sheep.   God watches over us this way and makes provision for us.   God provided for Elisha the prophet.   2 Kings 4:8-11 And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread.   9 And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually.   10 Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.   11 And it fell on a day, that he came thither, and he turned into the chamber, and lay there.   Everything was provided for him.   In 2018, my heart changed on several things.  I had a big house in Texas and I no longer wanted a big house.  I wanted one room with all my stuff around me.   (God was preparing me for a change that was coming very soon.)   Also I realized I was not going to be able to live alone as I had done before.  (I was 81.)   On December 6, 2018, I fell at my house in Texas.  As the ambulance workers rolled me past my front door to take me to hospital, I heard from God:  "You'll never see this house again."   God had prepared everything for me to move to another pasture where I would be cared for.   All I had to do is to go through each door as it opened for me!   God cares for us as that good shepherd cares for his own sheep.

Pastor Jordan Kologe explores Psalm 23 as a guide for navigating the spiritual cycles of consolation and desolation. While green pastures represent periods of ease and spiritual refreshment, the darkest valley signifies times when God feels absent and prayer feels empty. Rather than viewing these difficult seasons as a sign of failure, the text suggests they are opportunities for God to retrain our loves and foster a deeper, more resilient trust. Ultimately, the Good Shepherd remains present in every environment, offering a table of nourishment even in the midst of wilderness and suffering. Through this perspective, believers are encouraged to abide in God's presence regardless of their shifting emotional states.

In a world obsessed with self-discovery, many people cycle through different phases trying to figure out who they really are. The answer isn't found in fashion trends or self-help mantras, but in understanding one fundamental question: Who is your shepherd? Christianity isn't just a part of us—it IS us, as we are made in the image of God. When we truly make the Lord our shepherd, as described in Psalm 23, we surrender control and receive His complete provision, soul restoration, and guidance through life's valleys. This requires dying to ourselves daily and trusting God's leadership in every area of our lives. Our true identity is found not in worldly pursuits, but in Christ, who has carved our authentic name on a white stone that represents who we were created to be before any lies or trauma touched our lives.Prayers from sermon | The Path to Green Pastures:·       The Lord Is My Shepherd…Declaration #1: The Lord is MY Shepherd. I give him all control and authority over my life. Forgive me for trying to take the lead when I should be following. Amen·       I Have All That I Need – He let's me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams…Declaration #2: God, I thank you that your word says that you will supply all of my need according to your riches in glory. I have all that I need in Your care. Since you have been faithful to a thousand generations and because you are the same yesterday, today, and forever I can trust that you will be faithful to me and will never leave me or forsake me. Amen·       He Restores My Soul/Leads in Paths of Righteousness…Declaration #3: God, I pray You restore my soul. Give me rest that only You can give. Lead me in pursuit of being more like You. I want more of You in my life.·       Though I Walk Through the Valley of the Shadow of Death I will fear no evil. Your rod and staff comfort me…Declaration #4: God, I know I am your child. I need You in my valley moments. I know these times will shape me. I know this is not meaningless. I trust You, even when I don't understand it. I know that I can't be separated from Your love. Amen·       You Anoint My Head with Oil, My Cup Overflows, Surely Goodness & Mercy Shall Follow Me, I Shall Dwell in the House of the Lord Forever…Declaration #5: Dear Jesus. Forgive me of my sins. Come into my life and help me follow You. I believe that you died, and you were raised from the dead. I surrender myself to you. Lead me now, and into eternity. Amen.

There is DEFINITELY a mental health crisis in the U.S. right now. But it's not about a lack of access to treatment or meds. Nearly one in four adults is on psychiatric meds, and nearly one in ten children is, as well. The crisis has to do with med-induced harm, according to Laura Delano, the author of "Unshrunk". And Laura speaks from her own first-hand experience with the American mental health industry. Since her early teen years, she has been on countless meds, including Seroquel, Prozac, Effexor, Provigil, Ambien, and Klonopin, all without any improvement in her worsening symptoms.   Today, she describes her own mental health journey, offers insights about what sparked her questioning of the system, and why she's concluded that we would do well to question the nature of the crisis and to get curious about how to promote wellbeing with alternatives to psychiatric drugs.   Visit Laura's website at lauradelano.com Sign up for the Weston A. An Inspiring 31-Day Devotional In The Secret of a Happy Day, J. Wilbur Chapman offers a heartfelt exploration of the timeless comfort found in Psalm 23. This 31-day devotional illuminates the profound truths and enduring promises within David's ancient song, revealing its relevance and power to uplift souls regardless of life's circumstances. Chapman, with the wisdom of a seasoned pastor, invites readers on a daily journey through "The Shepherd's Song," to a place where every need is met, fear is dispelled, and eternal goodness and mercy are assured. Through an intimate introduction and thoughtful breakdown, Chapman delves into the six divisions of the psalm — Possession, Position, Promise, Progress, Provision, and Prospects — each representing a facet of the Christian's walk with the Good Shepherd. Readers are encouraged to reflect on the Lord's shepherding presence that guides through green pastures, restores the soul, and offers comfort even in the darkest valleys. The readings of The Secret of a Happy Day are an invitation to experience the deep and personal love of God anew. As you journey through each day with Chapman, let the truths of Psalm 23 transform your understanding of God's presence in your life and lead you into a deeper, more joyous relationship with Him. Whether standing beside the grave of buried hopes or basking in the sunshine of God's love, this book promises to be a source of comfort, strength, and inspiration, helping you to live out the serene trust and unshakeable peace that David himself experienced. About the Author J. Wilbur Chapman (1859-1918) was an American evangelist, pastor, and author known for his dynamic preaching style and evangelistic campaigns. He began his pastoral ministry in 1882, serving in several churches before becoming the pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia in 1890. Chapman's ministry gained widespread attention for his emphasis on personal salvation and the power of prayer. He resigned from his pastoral position in 1903 to devote himself full-time to evangelistic work, teaming up with gospel singer Charles Alexander to conduct successful campaigns across the United States and abroad. Chapman's legacy lives on through his writing and the numerous pastors and evangelists he influenced.

Today it's my pleasure to introduce you to my writing friend Patricia Johns. She has written more than 20 novels, so it is well past time to have her on Book Talk. Her best-selling Amish novels have been delighting readers, but I can't wait for y'all to dive into Green Pastures. It's a twist on the genre because the heroine is returning after leaving to get married and attend vet school, only now she's divorced and has to find a way to be true to who she is while also returning to her Amish family and roots. I would call Green Pastures a blend of romance and women's fiction and one that pulls you into a story of family and sisters.I really enjoyed talking with Patricia about her writing journey and her encouragement that we should never give up. As she says, we haven't lost until we quit. We never know how close we are to a breakthrough. There's a readership for the book as long as we try. This was such a fun conversation. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!Connect with Patricia JohnsFacebook | Instagram | X

I mean, I get clouds and blue skies as symbols of ascension from earthly plains. And it wasn't just in church — heaven was everywhere, in museums and in movies, too. But those early images, lodged into my subconscious, weren't inclusive or realistic, except for the 1936 Hollywood classic Green Pastures.”Celebrate the power of poems with a gift to The Slowdown today.
