A Winter Solstice Walk in the Woods

Happy Winter Solstice to all in the northern hemisphere! For this episode, we'll be exploring all the many ways that trees and nature play a role in winter holidays - specifically, the solstice. This is the last episode of this season. We wish everyone a Merry Yuletide and holiday season filled with light, and look forward to connecting in the new year! Wassail Recipe: This traditional warming drink is perfect for sipping during a solstice celebration (and it makes the house smell incredible). Simply combine 2 quarts apple cider, 1 1/2 cups orange juice, 3/4 cup pineapple juice, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice, 2 cinnamon sticks, a dash of ground cinnamon, and a dash of ground cloves in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes. Discard the cinnamon sticks, pour into mugs, and serve. And for the grown-ups, a splash of rum or cinnamon whisky doesn't hurt. *source: mothermag.com Tree Speech's host, Dori Robinson, is a director, playwright, dramaturg, and educator who seeks and develops projects that explore social consciousness, personal heritage, and the difference one individual can have on their own community. Every day can be consumed with irregular details and hyped emotions. Just trying to get it all right creates tension. Is perfection wrecking your family? If you woke up every morning with a different spouse and different kiddos, what would you do? Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACT. http://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT Well, that's like every morning for most of us parents. You never know when your child is going to go off on a tangent, yell just because, or stay quiet with you wishing he/she was louder. That's the reality of parenting. We get the worst with the best. And call it as you may, it's life! But that doesn't make it any easier to raise a family with how fast the world is moving. Technology changes overnight and opinions of what's right changes just as fast. So how do you break the cycle of perfection so it doesn't wreck your family, yet allows you to live a life in harmony? You gotta clean out the refrigerator! The K.I.S.S. ~ Clean out the refrigerator! Think about what you use a refrigerator for. You keep foods in there so you can eat them primarily for nutrition or fuel for your body. The same goes for what we keep within ourselves and how we use it to fuel our conversations, actions, thoughts, and dreams. We have this "refrigerator" that contains what we need to get through the day. But unfortunately, we are using a LOT of stuff that is spoiled. We bring in things from how we were raised. And usually, it's not the good stuff. Parenting becomes a potluck in many ways. Now I'm all for potlucks, but you still need to have a few good dishes to share. And that is why you start by cleaning out your parenting refrigerator. Keep in mind — you may have to clean out the refrigerator more than you think. Stages and seasons change. This requires you to stay in the know. Replenish what supports the manners you desire in your child. This is a constant, but the approach may be served differently in the seasons or stages. Discard the demands that are not working. What we say to our children can come across as demands, not requests. Now I know we think we can control our kiddos, but you cannot. However, you can find a way to communicate in which they are open to receiving what is being taught or reinforced. Use the leftovers first. If was good enough the first time, it will be better the second time. Children are challenging regardless of their age. When you get tired and don't know what to do, be sure to love unconditionally. That's the best seasoning to any parenting technique. "Be present. Be incredible. ‘Tis the season to be jolly and this dessert is jolly good! A choux pastry wreath is a stunning dessert for the festive table and it is absolutely delicious.Serves 8-12Choux130g chilled butter, chopped250mls water145g plain flour4 large eggs (about 230g in the shell), lightly whisked½ teaspoon sea salt3 teaspoons sugar (optional)150g white chocolate¼ cup cream4 tablespoon fruit compote, I used Barker's cherry and vanillaFilling300ml cream200g mascarpone2 teaspoons vanilla extract2 tablespoons icing sugar + extra to dust2 cups fresh mixed berries to serve1. Preheat oven to 170C fan and line a baking tray with baking paper. Drawn a 25cm circle on it to use as a guide.2. Heat the butter and water in a saucepan over medium heat for 1-2 minutes or until the butter melts and the mixture comes to the boil. Add the flour and use a wooden spoon to beat for 1-2 minutes or until the mixture comes away from side of pan. Transfer to the bowl of a standing mixer or to another bowl that you can use an electric beater in. Allow it to cool for 4-5 minutes.3. Begin to beat and add an egg with the beaters still running. Once incorporated, add the next and so on. I beat the final egg with a fork first before drizzling it in bit by bit as you may not need all of it to get a choux pastry mixture that is thick and glossy.4. Use a tablespoon to spoon 12 even spoonfuls within the drawn circle on your tray. I start with one at 12 o-clock, then six, then 3 and 9 and then I fill in the gaps. Using a finger moistened with water, smooth out any peaks on top of the choux mounds.5. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until puffed and golden. Reduce the heat to 100 C fan and bake for a further 10 minutes. Turn the oven off. Leave the puffs in the oven for at least 1 hour to dry and crisp up. Cool.6. Carefully cut the profiterole ring in half horizontally. Discard any pieces of uncooked dough from the profiterole centres. It can now be stored in an airtight container for a few days. Crisp it in a 100 C oven before filling and decorating.7. Melt white chocolate over a gentle heat, whisking in enough cream to form a thick smooth sauce. Cool to warm. Spread each profiterole with white chocolate sauce. Chill briefly to set.8. To fill; Dab fruit compote into each profiterole, add some fresh berries too. Beat together cream, mascarpone and icing sugar until stiff peaks form – watch you don'tover beat it. Spoon this mixture into the ring base and gently place the top ring. Dust with icing sugar.9. To serve, pull apart each profiterole and serve with fresh berries.LISTEN ABOVE

Boost Your Sales Confidence

This episode is part of a 12 days of Christmas read-along of the Selling Like We're Human book, recorded in 2021. The book follows a similar concept to what you're already used to here on the Humane Marketing show with the 7Ps of Humane Marketing and the Marketing Like We're Human book: we start with the being and then go into the doing. The 3 parts of the Selling Like We're Human book are : Being, Knowing and Doing (compared to Rumble, Rise and Resonate of the Marketing Like We're Human book) Today I'm reading a small section of Part 1 on BEING, Chapter 3 called 'Boost Your Sales Confidence:'     Excerpt from Selling Like We're Human, Part 1: BEING, Chapter 3: Boost Your Sales Confidence   Overcome the Expert Fear The second most frequently asked question, after your name, is probably “what do you do for a living?” From that short answer of what we do for work, others will make assumptions about our societal level, income, ambition, etcetera. No wonder people feel defined by what they do. In the entrepreneurial world, we make up our own job titles, so there is less comparison. But there's still peer pressure, and often people get grouped into different categories based on the number of zeros in their revenue. I won't get into my rant about the six-figure and seven-figure marketing headline club. I talk about that extensively in Marketing Like We're Human. Besides the income, there's also pressure to “be an expert.” I admit, I even used it in my LinkedIn business, where my tagline was “I help you position yourself as an expert on LinkedIn.” What does that have to do with selling, you ask? Quite a lot. Picture this: your muscles tense up just a bit, you clench your jaw, you unconsciously hold your breath. If your child walked in the door right now, you'd probably shout at him, shut the door, and turn the key this time. You're on high alert because you're just about to enter an important sales call on Zoom. You're in “expert” mode! Feel familiar? Maybe it's just me, but that's what many of my sales calls felt like when I was selling big LinkedIn consulting packages. I put so much pressure on myself and was afraid to lose face in front of my bigshot client. So How Can We Overcome the Expert Fear ? According to Wikipedia, an expert is “a person who has a comprehensive and authoritative knowledge of or skill in a particular area.” Okay, that's pretty impressive. What probably scares you is the word “authoritative,” which means a) Able to be trusted as being accurate or true; reliable, clear, authoritative information”; and b) Considered to be the best of its kind and unlikely to be improved upon. Fair enough, that's pretty scary! Reframing the discussion What if we replaced the word “expert” with “specialist”? It's not as exclusive, and if you call yourself a specialist, it means that you specialize in this topic and have valuable knowledge and skills in this area. And this can be true even if it's early in your entrepreneurial adventure. Because maybe you don't have ten years of experience offering this type of service, but you have previous experience—maybe from a corporate career, maybe outside of work—that you can tap into. You may also have passions and interests which aren't on your CV or your LinkedIn profile but which make you an interesting and well-rounded person that people feel attracted to. You don't have to know absolutely everything, because of course there's always room for improvement. And there's room for that transparency in a sales call! Bring More of You to Your Sales Transparency, vulnerability, authenticity, empathy . . . All these words, at their essence, have a common denominator: truth and sincerity. What people want now more than ever is the truth. They don't want a fake version of you, they don't want a cookie-cutter template approach, they don't want to be sold to via a robotic-sounding script, and they surely don't want your phony sympathy. What they really want is more of you, the real you. “How do I bring more of me to my sales, Sarah?” I don't have all the answers, because only you can be more of you. Have you ever eaten an artichoke? Not one from the can, a real one. It's that spiky thing that looks like a flower. You cook it in the pressure cooker and then you slowly work your way to the center, pulling off the outer petals one at a time. You can dip the leaves in olive oil and balsamic vinegar and then pull them through your teeth to remove the soft, pulpy portion of the petal. Don't try to chew the petals. They are not meant to be eaten. Once you've made it to the center, you still need to remove the choke, a crown of pointy fibers that can literally make you choke, so don't eat them. Hallelujah, you've found the artichoke heart! Sounds like a laborious journey, but believe me, it's so worth it! Cut the heart into pieces, season it, and enjoy! The journey to find the real you is similar. You need to peel back the layers of outside influences, conditioning, and adopted beliefs before you find the soft center—your real, authentic you. Here are some reflections to discard some of these outer layers to bring more of you to your sales: 1. Stop comparing First and foremost, you need to stop comparing yourself to everyone else. “Hah! Easier said than done!” I know. I still catch myself mindlessly scrolling through LinkedIn, envious of other people's inspiring posts; livestreams, which I can never get myself to do; and of course, my biggest procrastination: other people's launches. But whenever I do, I catch myself much faster than I did a few years ago, and I remind myself that this person is not me. This person has a different personality, different way to recharge their energy, different definition of success, different business model, etc. Comparing yourself with other entrepreneurs is only fruitful when you classify it as research and do it for a good reason, like, for example, when you're researching prices (we'll get to that in Part Three). 2. Ditch the script There are thousands of templates and sales scripts out there. The entrepreneurs who provide them (at least most of them) have good intentions. They are trying to help you. The problem is, as we've seen in Emily's story, it's not really helping! So ditch that script right now. Discard that sales funnel template with the four cart-closing e-mails with the rest of the artichoke petals. People are sick of these predictable e-mail series that have been used for decades now. Instead, keep reading in order to give yourself the permission to bring more of you to your sales. And in the integration part, you'll find some considerations on how to structure your sales conversation, but without making it a linear script to follow. 3. Take yourself less seriously Whenever I'm asked in a podcast interview what I would tell a younger version of myself, I say “Sarah, dear, please take yourself less seriously.” #vulnerabilityalert It's true. It's maybe one of my biggest regrets looking back at thirteen years of business. I wish I'd had more fun. I wish I had felt less like I needed to prove something. I wish that I had understood earlier that I'm good enough and that showing up as I am is sometimes good enough. I think someone who can take themselves less seriously comes across as more confident, not less confident. Being more casual in marketing and sales is a sign of confidence. How can you take yourself less seriously in these situations? Maybe you share an embarrassing story that happened to you. Maybe you share with more vulnerability. Maybe you admit that you don't have it all together 4. Have your values top of mind That's it; you have arrived in the middle and discarded the choke. Now it's time to focus on you! If you haven't gone through the exercise of choosing your top five core values in a while (or never), I highly recommend revisiting it. You'll find the full list of values in the Marketing Like We're Human book or, if you prefer to do this exercise online, the Barrett Values Centre offers a free online version in exchange for your e-mail: http://bit.ly/topvalues. Knowing your actual core values has merit on both personal and professional levels. And in sales, it will really help you with decision-making. I give you an example: Joy is one of my core values. So when I listen to my body and don't experience a sensation of joy when talking to a prospect, I'd rather pass on the opportunity. It happened in 2019 when I was invited to be a LinkedIn trainer for a new offering for CEO's. I said yes. But then of course Covid happened and the whole project got delayed. Then they reached back out early 2021 and invited me to a four-hour “let's meet and brainstorm” session with the organizers and the other three trainers. At the time, I couldn't say exactly why (well, other than the fact that I wasn't excited by blocking out a whole afternoon without getting paid), but it just didn't feel right. So after some encouragement from my business besties Valérie and Laurence, I took all my courage and called the guy to tell him I'd rather leave the opportunity to someone else. And I gave them the name of one of my colleagues who I know would be a better fit for this project. Thinking about this again now, I realize that it didn't align with two of my core values: joy and curiosity. 5. Slow down the sale In order to have an authentic experience with the real you, we need to slow down—way down. “I've been on your mailing list for six months now.” I hear that all the time. Sometimes they'll say a year. Trust isn't built overnight. In order to really get to know you in this online world, you need to give people more time. It's the exception to the rule that someone hears you on a podcast and immediately wants to hire you. And it's rare that someone buys your signature program after just going through a few onboarding e-mails. That doesn't mean you shouldn't mention it, I think you should, but you shouldn't feel disappointed if they don't buy immediately. If we want people to make empowered buying decisions, then we need to allow them more time. The same goes for sales conversations. If your prospect needs time to think about it, then give them that time. Not endless amounts of time, because that wouldn't be fair to you, but for example twenty-four or forty-eight hours. There's so much more spaciousness when we don't apply the pressure of time. 6. Go woo-woo #woo-wooprompt I truly believe that any kind of grounding practice helps your confidence with sales. Just like our oak tree from the Serene Garden is more stable thanks to its deep roots, you will also feel more grounded and confident. A regular grounding practice will help your body posture and your confidence. Whether it is yoga, prayer, breath work, chakra work, visualization, or meditation doesn't matter. All of these techniques help you anchor yourself and deepen your connection with Mother Earth. So if woo-woo is your jam, I say bring more of that to your sales. Who says you can't start your sales conversation with three deep breaths in order to be in the present moment and get rid of any money-related stress? These are just a few ideas on how to bring more of you to your sales. Find what works for you. Remember the artichoke analogy to peel back the layers of conditioning. And of course, the best way to find out is to “do the work.” This excerpt is from Part One on Being, and from the third chapter called 'Boost Your Confidence'. Are you guys noticing a theme? We are totally into ingredients this season. And, we're trying to help you out with some of the more challenging ones. A suggestion here, a recipe there and then you have branched out without any pain or suffering! Sweet potatoes are one of those ingredients that you hear about a lot especially if you're into that whole healthy eating thing because let's face it, they are really good for you. But the really good thing is that they also taste really good and, you can't say that about a lot of food that's good for you, right? Sweet potatoes are also able to go savory or sweet with equal success. Now, as you listen to the episode, you'll notice that Natalia (and me too, for that matter) does not get or like the whole candied yams with marshmallows and brown sugar thing. I know, I know, lots of you absolutely love that recipe but we're pretty sure it's just nostalgia…kinda like the cheese coneys from before. You don't really think that tastes good, do you? But we're including a savory recipe for your next holiday (or just regular cold weather) dinner. These are the spicy ones that I adapted from Bobby Flay. It's super easy and you can adjust the level of spice to suit yourself. The other cool thing? You can make them ahead of time! Final cool thing…4 ingredients! So here they are: Chipotle Mashed Sweet Potatoes Serves 8 – 10 5½ lbs sweet potatoes 1 tbsp minced chipotle peppers in adobo sauce 3 tbsp unsalted butter, room temperature and cut into chunks 1 tsp kosher salt Preheat oven to 450° Lightly grease a 2-quart baking dish, and set aside. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Pierce each sweet potato several times with a fork, and place on the prepared baking sheet. Roast the sweet potatoes in preheated oven until easily pierced with a fork, 1 to 1½ hours. Remove from the oven, and cool about 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350°. When sweet potatoes are cool enough to handle, cut in half, and scoop flesh into a mixing bowl. Discard potato skins. Beat the sweet potatoes with the chipotle peppers, butter, and salt; spread evenly in the prepared baking dish. This can baked now or refrigerated until the next day. Bake until heated through, 20 to 25 minutes. Don't forget there's another (cooler) recipe over on Patreon. Remember, it's the place where you can watch fun videos, get fun recipes and become a fun member of our gang! Just click below to check it out: Become a Patron! If our podcast shows up when it's supposed to and these days, that's a big IF… You should be able to find us all over the place. Listen on your favorite podcatcher, we're probably there, even on Alexa! We're on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Play and, of course, here, AND, you can take us on the road anytime you like! We love and appreciate you guys. Keep listening, hang in there. Remember getting tripped up is a common daily experience   Read positive affirmations  Create a habit to recognize what you can do in the moment to get the outcome you want   Take some sort of positive action to counter negative emotions    Discard your emotions like a shitty first draft and let yourself reset  Be very careful about what you allow on your calendar    Question 2: "How do I get leads to roll in faster if I'm a new company and people are hesitant to use a newbie?”  Fake it ‘til you make it—you don't have to broadcast that you're new  Remember everybody was new at some point  Embrace the advantage of being new and own it Document all your projects to build your content and referrals  Love the one you're with—love that customer, don't look forward and be in the moment   Separate yourself from the older competition          Links to resources: NASHVEGAS LIVE 2021: https://thecontractorfight.com/nashvegas-2021/ To have your questions answered by Tom and Dan shoot us an email to help@thecontractorfight.com with the subject "Podcast" and we'll try and answer it on a future show. What emotions do they experience and what do they do as a result of your discard (to help you better understand a typical Narcissist mindset). Discarding someone means ending the relationship, leaving, abandoning them, rejecting them. It means you're now saying NO to being treated poorly and saying YES to a new chapter and a much better life for yourself. Bible Reading: Ephesians 4:22-32Little Robby took a bite of his drumstick. "Yum! Dis is good," he declared."Not dis, Robby. You need to say this," Benjamin told him. "Put your tongue on the edge of your upper teeth. Now say th-th-th." Robby did what his brother told him and made the sound successfully."You did it!" said Robby's sister Hannah with a smile. "Now say th-th-this."Obediently, Robby did as he was told. "Th-th-dis," he said, beaming.Hannah and Benjamin laughed along with Mom and Dad. "That's okay, Robby. You'll get it soon," Hannah assured him."You know, I think we all need to get rid of a dis or two," said Dad. "We put dis in front of a lot of words to change the meaning to the exact opposite of what the original word meant. For example, put dis before obey, and what do you have?""Disobey," replied Benjamin."Right," said Dad, "and we're all guilty of disobeying now and then.""But who do you and Mom have to obey?" Hannah asked in surprise."We have to obey the Lord," said Mom."Yes, and He tells us to obey the laws of our country," added Dad. He looked around the table. "What other dis can you think of?"Mom spoke up. "Not too long ago, someone lied about me. Ever since then, I've disliked her. But since I've been saved by Jesus, I need to obey Him, and He commands us to forgive others the way He's forgiven us. So I'm going to trust Him to help me take away that dis and forgive her.""How about being dishonest?" suggested Benjamin."Or being discontented or disagreeable?" Hannah offered.Dad nodded. "So do we all agree we should discard some of the disses in our lives?""Sure,"Ben said with a grin. "But I'm glad it's dis and not des that we need to get rid of. Because it's time for dessert, isn't it?"Dad laughed. "I think you're right. Let's enjoy it and remember that because we know Jesus, He will help us do away with the disses that keep us from showing others His love." -Vera M. HutchcroftHow About You?Is there a dis that you should discard? So many words beginning with dis are what we call negative words. They're not words that help you show God's love to others. Be on the lookout for such words that find their way into your life. Ask the Lord to help you get rid of them and let the Holy Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Discard the disses so others can see the love of Jesus in your life. Today's Key Verse:Throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of lifeInstead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Flowster Live Demo https://flowster.app/live-demo/ Episode Highlights [04:43] — Aaron introduces LIFEAID LIFEAID Beverage Co. started by making products for the CrossFit community. They aim to make beverages that are healthy and enjoyable. With 3,000 retail accounts, LifeAID earned $16 million revenue this year and continues to grow by 25-30% every year. [08:22] — Control your choices and mindset  When the real estate market crashed, Aaron had to file for bankruptcy. His finances and ego both took a hit. Our perceptions form our thoughts, words, and actions. These directly affect our choices and the results that they create. By controlling his words and actions, Aaron found that he started to progress — slowly but surely. Overcoming adversity requires that you change your language. [13:54] — Breaking free from the victim cycle  Being a victim means you are not in control. Discard the "cause and effect" mindset. Adopt the mindset that "cause plus reaction equals effect." We have the ability to choose. [17:06] — Ditching materialism When the house he had worked on for 17 years burned down, Aaron took this experience as an opportunity for growth. Don't assign permanence to material things. Words, thoughts, and actions are what last forever and hold the most weight. [19:31] — Dealing with bankruptcy  After going bankrupt, Aaron and his family lived in a 400-square foot RV. LIFEAID started as a side hustle with a fellow CrossFit enthusiast, Orion. Eventually, they decided to devote their time entirely to LIFEAID because they couldn't serve two masters if they wanted their business to succeed. Their finances were tight during this period. This experience served as a lesson in humility for Aaron. [23:36] — Choosing your target market and offering them something new Looking for tips that they can apply to their business, Aaron joined a high-level marketing group. There, Dean Jackson advised him to choose a single target market. By doing so, you can focus your time and resources on putting together a great product. Aaron emphasizes that you should bring something new to the market and not follow the usual path to compete in the market. [28:55] — How is LIFEAID different from other energy drinks?  Rather than an energy drink, LIFEAID belongs to the healthy energy or performance energy space. Their ingredients consist of moderate hits of natural caffeine with green tea, nootropics Alpha-GPC, GABA, and B complex. It's cleaner and more sustainable approach that aims to stimulate the brain and nervous system. LIFEAID costs more, but it's different and healthier than other energy drinks in the market. [31:26] — Creating their products   Because of his background in nutrition, Aaron is well-versed in the right ingredients to use. Aaron researched the best ingredients to use and worked with a food scientist to make LIFEAID's first products. [38:12] — Hiring the right people    Don't hire people out of desperation. If you do, it might cost you more in the long run. Instead, make sure that your prospects are a good cultural fit and can keep up with your company's progress. [41:35] — Increasing business capabilities    Focus on learning new things. Encourage holistic growth for the business. Pass on what you learn to the team so that you are all growing. Assess your goals. If you are not satisfied with the results, choose better. [44:41] — Developing the business process    It's better to develop your business process sooner rather than later. Do either of these challenges every day for 5 days straight this week. A finisher could be 100 burpees at the end of a workout, or a mile run to finish your workout. If you don't workout, it could be going to a gym to workout, or it could be something as simple as going for a run or going to play tennis. Not by doing something, but by discarding it. "If you are suffering the humbug that you've created within yourself, at least don't give the bug to others!" Sadhguru reminds us. "That's what love means. That you don't give your humbug to others, you give the sweetest part of yourself."

Hydrating Green Tea Face Serum

As I was looking for something to add a little oomph to my skin, I ran across this recipe by Kendle Moon of Mountain Rose Herbs that I think you will enjoy. Green-tea skin-care formulations can offer gentle yet stimulating hydration support for skin that requires a little extra nourishment and moisture.  This hydrating green tea face/skin-serum recipe infuses the benefits of green tea leaves into organic olive oil and brings in the goodness of select essential oils for a pampering and beautifully scented blend.  This particular recipe is suitable for a wide range of folks, and many find it light enough to use on the face before bed, in the morning, or both. It is also generally friendly for mature or sensitive skin, as the essential oil ratio is quite low. You'll notice that this recipe makes approximately 1 cup of serum, which is quite a bit. You can divide the batch up among friends if you plan to primarily use it on your face, or you can use it as a whole-body oil during seasons or occasions when you're bothered by overall skin dryness. The recipe is also easy to reduce if you'd like to make a smaller amount. But, the first step is to create an infused oil. Green Tea Infused Oil Makes: About 1 1/2 cups infused oil Ingredients: 1 cup organic green tea1 2/3 cups organic olive oil Directions: Pour loose green tea into a pint-sized canning or glass pantry jar with a lid.Top tea with olive oil until completely covered.Allow the mixture to infuse for 4-6 weeks, shake regularly, and make sure tea stays completely covered with oil.Push tea down with a clean spoon or add more oil if needed.Strain oil using a funnel strainer and or cheesecloth.Discard tea into compost. Green Tea Face Serum Makes: About 1 Cup Ingredients: 1/2 cup organic green-tea-infused olive oil (recipe above)1/4 cup organic avocado oil1/4 cup jojoba oil2 T organic sunflower oil12 drops organic rosemary essential oil12 drops organic lavender essential oil8 drops organic geranium essential oil4 drops organic myrtle essential oil Directions: Combine all the ingredients in a glass jar with the lid and shake well to combine.Transfer serum into a dark amber or cobalt blue bottle to protect from light and store in a cool, dark place. This serum does not need to be refrigerated and should keep for several months if properly stored.Use accordingly. Pro Tips: A little skin serum goes a long way! Use an oil dropper or a low-volume pump to add a small amount of liquid, then gently spread serum over your face.Any kind of high-quality green tea will work well in this serum. I used sencha in this particular recipe, but I've also infused spring green tea or gunpowder green tea with great success. Use this green tea face serum accordingly and enjoy the hydrating effects it has on your skin. That's it until next time. Remember to stay healthy and free. Sound the alarm! It's the second part of Evil Games Club's nefarious reign over the clubhouse. This time, Adia, Dylan and Dale take their misdeeds to new heights with an "Evil Games Jam." Can they invent a playable game and test it in a single episode? What maddening mechanics will be unleashed from these malevolent minds? Take shelter under your headphones and listen if you dare! The Interactive Fiction Competition Spring Thing Festival of Interactive Fiction Ludum Dare 48 NaNoReNO Jam OST Jam Prompt Create a game you might find in a casino, where the house always wins. Game type Card game Player count 3 Materials Standard deck of 52 playing cards Setup In this game, the Patrons and the Dealer oppose each other. In the spirit of the prompt, the idea is that the Dealer needs to win against the Patrons, but keep them interested enough to keep playing. The Dealer wants to win against the Patrons. The Patrons will work with each other to make more matches than the Dealer—while having fun! Setting up the game: Decide who will be The Dealer.  The Dealer shuffles the deck and deals each player 5 cards, face down. The Dealer deals themselves 5 cards, face down. Play starts with the person to the Dealer's left and proceeds clockwise. Rules GOAL Patrons want to create more sets of matching 4 cards than the Dealer before the deck runs out. A set = 4 cards of the same number. Heads up! Here are some important notes: The Dealer's rules are slightly different than the Players' rules. The differences are noted below in line with the regular rules. The discard pool is not the same thing as the discard pile. A discard pool is created during each round and then merged into the discard pile at the start of the Dealer's turn each round. PLAYER TURNS On each player's turn, they will take the following steps in order: Draw cards Switch cards Discard (Dealer only) Before you draw cards, move the cards in the discard pool from that round into the discard pile. 1: DRAW CARDS On their turn, each player takes one of the following actions: Draw up to 2 cards from the deck and place it face up in front of them  Draw up to 2 cards from the discard pool and place it face up in front of them  (Dealer only) If the player is the Dealer, they can pick up to 2 cards from any of the Patrons' hands and put them face up on the table OR put them directly into their hand 2: SWITCH CARDS  The player may then swap cards from their hand for cards they just drew, maintaining a hand of 5 cards. Patrons can only switch "like for like"—cards of the same color or number. Examples: Swap the Queen of Spades for the Five of Clubs Swap the Four of Diamonds for the Four of Spades The Dealer doesn't have to follow the "like for like" rule. They can switch whatever cards they want. Unfair? Yep! That's the point. 3: DISCARD The player should now have 5 cards in their hand and 2 cards leftover—either ones that were switched out, or ones that were drawn and not switched. The player must do one of the following before the end of their turn: Discard the leftover 2 cards into the discard pool. (Dealer only) Hand the leftover 2 cards to the Patron from which you drew your cards in step 1 of this turn. MAKING A SET A set is created when a single player holds 4 cards of the same number in their hand. When a player creates a set, they place all four cards on the table, then draws back up to a 5 card hand.  PLAYING TO WIN Players take turns, clockwise, until the deck is expended. If the Dealer has made the most 4-card sets by the end of the game, the Dealer wins. If the Patrons have more 4-card sets than the Dealer, the Patrons win! SHARING INFORMATION Patrons can share information about their hands with each other by placing their hands face-up on the table. If you do this, know that the Dealer will get to see what's in your hand, too! That's all the rules that we're allowed to talk about. If you try out the game, let us know what you think!
