Welcome to bonus episode 26 of - The Stephen King Podcast - Constant and New Listeners! In this episode, Nina Munteanu is the guest. Nina is a limnologist / water ecologist and teach writing at The University of Toronto in Ontario, Canada. Her non-fiction book "Water Is..." was selected by Margaret Atwood in the NYT 'Year in Reading' as her recommended choice to read in 2016. Her fiction book, “A Diary in the Age of Water” follows the climate-induced journey of the Earth and humanity through four generations of women, each with a unique relationship to her world and to water. Water plays both metaphoric and literal roles in this allegorical tale of humanity's final journey from home—where male sterility, heat-shock proteins, horizontal gene transfer, and virgin-births rule a changing world of water securitization through ambitious environmental manipulation. The cli-fi novel begins centuries from now in the dying northern boreal forest with young KYO, a blue water nymph with multiple arms who dreams of the past and of being a normal human. She is on her way to the library to memorize a textbook on the Age of Water and there discovers a piece of her past from that age when The Water Twins destroyed the world. The central part of the story is a diary by a limnologist, whose personal account creates a terrifying realism to the geo-political tension of water securitization, plague containment, and police oppression. Check out Nina's websites for further details: Books - www.ninamunteanu.ca Teaching www.ninamunteanu.me. Welcome to the Stephen King Podcast - Constant and New Listeners! Join your host - longtime Constant Reader - writer/podcaster - Lou W. Sytsma. Welcome to Episode 110 of The Stephen King Podcast! Filmmaker Julia Marchese has just announced her new project and comes on the podcast to talk about it. Marchese will next be adapting Stephen King's short story I Know What You Need into a short film which she will also direct. The Indiegogo campaign to fund the film launches Monday, October 5th and runs until Saturday, October 24. Marchese's first film was the 2016 documentary Out of Print about the importance of revival cinema and 35mm film exhibition to culture & featured interviews with Rian Johnson, Edgar Wright, Kevin Smith, Joe Dante, Patton Oswalt, Seth Green and many more. The film played around the world, is now streaming online and the 35mm print of the film is now a part of The Academy Film Archive. Marchese acquired the film rights to the story as part of Stephen King's Dollar Baby Program, which allows the rights to certain short stories of his to be bought for one dollar (and you really do send Stephen King a dollar bill in the mail). The contract states that the rights are good for one year, and the resulting film must be 45 minutes or under, plus the film must be non-profit, non-broadcast. Another requirement of Dollar Baby contract is that all of the finished short films must be sent to him to view. That means you can be part of a project that Stephen King himself will watch. I Know What You Need is a short story that was first featured in the September 1976 issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine, and then compiled into the short story collection Night Shift in 1978. The story centers on Elizabeth, a popular college junior who is approached one night by Edward, an unkempt outcast whose first words to her are "I Know What You Need" - and she is shocked to discover that he does. The film will be set in the year the story was first published - 1976. The film will be shot on the gorgeous campus of the University of Maine, where Stephen King attended and where the story is set. That means this film will be shot in the exact same locations that Stephen King wrote about in the story. Marchese is an avid Stephen King fan and has been a loyal Constant Reader since she was a child. In addition to reading his works growing up, she has also spent the last two and a half years reading over 40 of Stephen King's books that are a part of his vast multiverse connected to The Dark Tower series. She is also a film programmer, actor and the co-host of the popular horror podcast Horror Movie Survival Guide. She is beyond thrilled at this opportunity to adapt her favorite short story by her favorite author for the screen. Her Indiegogo campaign runs from October 5 -24, and she appreciates shares just as much as donations! Julia Marchese in front of Stephen King's house in Bangor, Maine. Hope you enjoy this episode! Welcome to special bonus episode 22 of - The Stephen King Podcast - Constant and New Listeners! In this installment, American author Kathrin Hutson, author of the 2019 International Book Awards Finalist, Sleepwater Beat, a fast-paced, near-future - returns to talk about her followup book in the series - Sleepwater Static. They say home is where the heart is. Now that Sleepwater's on the run, home is just another place to hide. Wyoming's Sleepwater chapter is on the run, hunted for their ability to spin a beat. With little time to mourn the members they've lost, Bernadette Manney takes the group to the one place she swore she'd never see again: the cabin in Hollywood, South Carolina. It's remote enough to lay low and catch a break, but not for long. Their beats are condemned as mutations, radical terrorist tactics, and felonies punishable both by and outside the law. Bernadette thought Sleepwater would be safe here, but returning to her Southern roots unleashes more demons than she left behind. Her past, her love, and even her own flesh and blood won't let her move on through a venomous society intent on rooting out her people. Now, to bring a mother's first child safely into an unsafe world, Bernadette must face her own shame from before Sleepwater itself was born. But redemption and forgiveness may be too much to ask, and it may just be too late. You can find all Kathrin's books - here. Visit Kathrin's website to find out more about her - here. Welcome to bonus episode 18 of - The Stephen King Podcast - Constant and New Listeners! In this installment, US author Bruce Olav Solheim returns to discuss his latest book Bruce Olav Solheim was born on September 3, 1958, in Seattle, Washington, to hard-working Norwegian immigrant parents, Asbjørn and Olaug Solheim. Bruce was the first person in his family to go to college. He served for six years in the US Army as a jail guard and later as a helicopter pilot. He earned his PhD in history from Bowling Green State University in 1993. Bruce is currently a distinguished professor of history at Citrus College in Glendora, California. He also served as a Fulbright Professor in 2003 at the University of Tromsø in northern Norway. Bruce founded the Veterans Program at Citrus College and cofounded, with Manuel Martinez and Ginger De Villa-Rose, the Boots to Books transition course—the first college course in the United States designed specifically for recently returned veterans. He has published eight books and has written ten plays, two of which have been produced. We talk about Bruce's latest book which completes the Timeless Paranormal series: Timeless Trinity: An Extra-Terrestrial Paranormal Personal History, published by Boots to Books and distributed through Amazon which delves deeper into paranormal and supernatural experiences told through the eyes of Solheim himself. The Trinity book goes beyond the first two Timeless books as it details the authors continuing contact with Anzar, an ancient alien mystic, UFO sightings, alien abductions, animal spirits, ghosts, hauntings, demons, an encounter with the infamous original American mass murderer Dr. H.H. Holmes, and concludes that the spirit world, the alien world, and the quantum world are all the same. Dr. Solheim's Timeless Trinity is a personal glimpse into a truly paranormal life. Gary Dumm again provides the illustrations and world renowned hypnotherapist Yvonne Smith provides a foreword. Find out more at his website - Bruce Olav Solheim. Welcome to bonus episode 14 of - The Stephen King Podcast - Constant and New Listeners! As a self-proclaimed anti-author, Marc Watson's success has a lot to do with his unconventional approach; he takes his writing seriously, but he'll also be the first to tell you, sometimes, he'd rather be fishing on the river or watching his son's play hockey, and manages to balance his time because he knows the stories he wants to tell are worth writing down. Marc also pushes the boundaries of genre fiction, and captivates readers with the question-who says you can't have robots and magic in the same novel? Enter ‘Science Fantasy' and Marc's latest release, Catching Hell: Part 2 Destination released by Double Dragon Press. On the heels of the release of Catching Hell: Part One Journey (April, 2018) which is still fresh in the minds of readers, Part Two Destination (November, 2018) continues the perilous journey of two best friends, Johan and Aryu, as science fiction and fantasy, technology and magic, collide in this epic finisher like no other. Avenging the destruction of their home was their goal, but with much more at stake, the robotic Army of Old, and the mysticism behind the Power, the two brave warriors will have to do more than just fight their fears if they are ever going to bridge the gap between them and reunite. Marc, also a part-time writing student at the Athabasca University, is known for using a variety of writing styles to write effectively and believably his cross-genre fiction in order to engage readers with thought provoking world building and unforgettable characters.
