Tonight's guest, Monty, has had two cryptid encounters. He's only going to share the first one on tonight's show, because that was his only Sasquatch encounter. The second encounter was with a Dogman. When Monty had his Sasquatch encounter, he was only 16 years old. He had his little brother Robbie and a good friend, John, with him when it happened. The Reluctant Prophet: The Frightening Greatness of Mercy This conference focuses on the meaning of repentance and God's mercy during Lent, . . . . . . using the Book of Jonah as a mirror for the human heart. When God calls Jonah to preach repentance to the wicked city of Nineveh, Jonah flees because he suspects that God might forgive them. His flight symbolizes how people often resist God's will, cling to resentment, and struggle with the idea that mercy might extend even to their enemies. Through humorous and ironic events . . . Jonah fleeing by ship, being thrown into the sea, swallowed by a great fish, and finally preaching reluctantly . . . scripture reveals both the stubbornness of the human heart and the persistence of God's grace. Jonah's preaching leads the people of Nineveh to sincere repentance, and God spares the city, which angers Jonah because he prefers justice without mercy. Why? The conference further explains. The book of Jonah concludes with God challenging Jonah's narrowness of heart. If Jonah can care about a small plant that gives him comfort, should not God care for the thousands of people in Nineveh who do not yet understand right from wrong? Jesus himself says, this generation will only receive the sign of Jonah. What Does That Mean? The conference then turns to Jesus Christ, who contrasts with Jonah. While Jonah runs from his mission and resents mercy, Christ willingly comes into the world and gives His life for sinners. Jesus fulfills the “sign of Jonah”: just as Jonah spent three days in the fish, Christ spends three days in the tomb, but unlike Jonah, He enters death to rescue humanity. Tonight's guest, Stan, had his first Bigfoot sighting a year ago, almost to the day. You see, on March 1st, 2025, one of Stan's friends, Ed, who is a member of the B.F.R.O, called Stan and asked him if he'd like to go out looking for Bigfoot. Stan said, “sure,” so his friend took him out to a reservoir close to Stan's home, in Oregon, that has Bureau of Land Management land around it. After they made it to the reservoir, they drove the mountain roads in that area. The two men were drinking iced tea as they drove up and down the roads, so eventually, Stan wound up needing to relieve himself, so he asked his friend to pull over. The decision to get out for that nature call was the genesis of what became an obsession for Stan when it comes to investigating Sasquatch. Here we are, one year later, and he's had 5 sightings and numerous other experiences with them. When the COVID lockdowns happened, to help pass the time, Heather decided to look into the Sasquatch phenomenon. Tonight's guest, Doug Messer, had his first and only Bigfoot sighting in 1980. He had his sighting while he was in his bedroom, but his encounter started in the woods, behind his house, in Greenup County, Kentucky. You see, he had been camping in the woods behind his house with 3 friends of his. After the he and his 3 friends had turned in for the night, it started to rain pretty heavily and the rain washed out their camp. That caused them to decide to pack up their camp and head back to Doug's house. After they had everything packed up, they had just started walking down an old timber road, to leave, when they noticed heavy footsteps pacing them to their right. When the boys would stop walking, the footsteps would stop too. They tested that several times and every time they'd stop walking the heavy footsteps would stop too. That frightened them, so they all took off running. Whatever it was that the boys were running from kept pace with them. Finally, after the boys made it to Tommy's house, Tommy thought the experience was over. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom – Theology Thursday – Top 10 Logical Fallacies That Lead to Bad Theology and Misguided Evangelism. Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2796 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2796 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Our current series of Theology Thursday lessons is written by theologian and teacher John Daniels. I have found that his lessons are short, easy to understand, doctrinally sound, and applicable to all who desire to learn more of God's Word. John's lessons can be found on his website theologyinfive.com. Today's lesson is titled Top 10 Logical Fallacies That Lead to Bad Theology and Misguided Evangelism. Theology and evangelism must be grounded in truth. Scripture calls us to worship God with all our heart, soul, and mind. When Christians lean on faulty reasoning, they twist the Word of God and open the door to error. Logical fallacies are not harmless; they often lead to heresy, false conversions, and a compromised witness. The gospel is too precious to be diluted by sloppy thinking. Here are ten common logical fallacies that regularly poison Christian teaching and outreach, along with why they are so dangerous. 1. Appeal to Emotion God created us with emotions, and they can be powerful tools in responding to His truth. But when emotions become the foundation of a theological claim or evangelistic appeal, the message becomes distorted. Frightening people with hellfire or guilt-tripping them into “saying a prayer” is not preaching the gospel. It is manipulating feelings. This may produce outward responses, but it rarely produces genuine repentance. The Holy Spirit uses the truth of the gospel to convict and transform, not emotional spectacle. 2. Straw Man We are called to represent the truth faithfully, and that includes how we handle opposing views. Creating a caricature of someone else's beliefs just to knock it down is not discernment; it is dishonesty. Saying, “Calvinists believe God delights in sending people to hell,” or “Arminians think they save themselves,” misrepresents those views and violates the command to bear true witness. If we cannot refute what someone actually believes, we have no business opposing it at all. 3. Slippery Slope There is a difference between wise caution and irrational fear. When someone says, “If we allow this doctrinal disagreement, we'll abandon the gospel next,” or “If women teach children, we'll soon have drag queens in the pulpit,” they are not contending for the faith. They are avoiding honest discussion. Scripture warns against compromise, but it also warns against making false accusations. We must examine each issue on its own merit, not use fear tactics to shut down thought. 4. Circular Reasoning The Bible is self-authenticating, but it should not be defended with circular logic. Saying, “The Bible is true because it says it is,” may sound spiritual, but it avoids meaningful engagement with the reliability of God's Word. Scripture invites examination. On Episode 528, he told us about the night his white American bulldog, named Dallas, gave his life to protect Cam from a Dogman that attacked him. For me the most illuminating insight into what these laws are actually designed to do came up in an ABC interview with Attorney-General Michelle Rowland on Tuesday. Over and over again throughout the interview Rowland was asked by ABC's David Speers to clarify whether the new laws could see activist groups banned for criticizing Israel and opposing its genocidal atrocities in a way that causes Jewish Australians to feel upset feelings, and she refused to rule out the possibility every single time. When tonight's guest, April, was younger, she found what she thought was an injured, jet-black dog in the woods, one day. Being the kind soul she was and is, she decided to take him home with her, so she could nurse him back to good health. Due to his jet-black coat, she named him Shadow. As time went by, she came to realize that there was something special about Shadow. He had qualities normal dogs don't have, like piercing, amber-colored eyes that seemed as if they could look right through you. Also, normal dogs don't raise up onto their back legs and walk from the living room window to the front door, so they can look out. Tonight's guest, Super Dave, had his first encounter when he was in the 5th grade, in the Saginaw Eddy Bottoms, in Arkansas. The day he had it, he had walked back to his favorite fishing hole. As he got close to the fishing hole, he heard some whoops, followed by footsteps that were following him. That unnerved him, but what happened to him when he reached his fishing hole, the intensity of his situation went through the roof. When he was approaching the fishing hole, he saw a Sasquatch standing knee-deep in the water. What happened to him that day traumatized Dave so much, he was terrified of the dark for years afterwards. Tonight's guest, Marshall, is an experienced Ohio Dogman investigator who was featured on Episode 626, most recently. Originally, he came on Episode 445, to talk about Dogman encounters he'd had in his main research area. Back when he came on Episode 445 to do that, he viewed the Dogmen in his research to be relatively docile. On Episode 626, however, he came back to tell us about the change in demeanor he's noticed from the Dogmen in that area. He now describes them as being dangerous. On Episode 626, he told us about several unnerving discoveries he'd made in his main research area that lead him to conclude that the Dogmen there are dangerous now. After he had shared all of those recent experiences and his opinions on them with us, there wasn't time for me to ask him the plethora of questions I had for him, so I asked Marshall if he'd come back, so I could do that and he agreed to do so.
