Thunder and lightning offer one of nature's more cinematic spectacles, so it's unsurprising they would accrue a degree of folklore. The danger that lightning particularly poses sees a range of practices to ward off storms, while other traditions offer a way to predict events using storms. Thunder and lightning also work together, as the Met Office explains: "When the electrical current from a lightning strike passes through the air, it heats the surrounding air rapidly—up to 30,000°C. This sudden heating causes the air to expand explosively, creating a shockwave that we hear as thunder. [...] A sharp crack indicates a nearby strike, while a low rumble suggests the lightning occurred farther away". Many cultures also have storm deities, such as Thor, Perun, Ọya, Jupiter, Set, Susanoo-no-Mikoto, and Taranis, among others. Yet as fascinating and complex as they are, we're going to focus on the folklore around the storms, rather than those who control them.  So what does folklore tell us about storms, thunder, and lightning? Tonight's first guest, Derin Franks, had his Bigfoot sighting in the William B. Bankhead National Forest, in North Alabama, in 2017. It happened on the last day of deer hunting season. Derin had just walked to the edge of a greenfield when he decided to sit down on a log, just inside the tree line. As he sat there, taking everything in, he suddenly heard a limb snap about 12 yards over his right shoulder. When he heard it, he stood up and turned around. When he did, he couldn't believe his eyes…Tonight's second guest, Catman Hero, had his Bigfoot sighting on August 8th, 2016. It happened at a campsite in Middle Tennessee while he was participating in a nighttime field investigation. He was with Randy Hutchings, a very experienced field investigator, and another investigator named Josh.After arriving at the campsite, the three men walked about two to three miles into the woods before Randy, who was leading the investigation, told Catman and Josh to stop. Randy explained that, when he gave the word, he wanted them to turn on their lights and scan the woods for eyeshine.When Randy gave the signal, all three men turned on their lights and began scanning the woods. Almost immediately, Randy and Josh noticed something hiding behind a tree branch. Over the years, the two of them have had numerous Sasquatch encounters. They had all decided to go night swimming at Little Niagara Falls, and their group was the only one there.After spending some time swimming, a storm started to blow in, so they packed up and headed to the main parking lot, near the restrooms. After making it to the parking lot, they suddenly noticed a figure standing near the restrooms, under one of the lights. They yelled at the figure, and when they did, it ran off. As they watched it run away into the deep woods. Adam Merriott is a filmmaker who lives in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The reason Adam is here tonight is that he's working on a project called “Legacy of the Forest,” a cinematic horror story focused on the Dogman phenomenon.Adam's main goal with the project is to tell the stories behind the Dogman encounters so many eyewitnesses have had over the years, using the language of cinema. Adam isn't making the film only for people who already believe in the existence of Dogmen. He also wants people who don't know a thing about Dogmen to be able to watch the film and walk away with something from the experience.To get the project off the ground, though, he'll need help financing it. That's why he's launching a Kickstarter campaign for the project.Adam's aspirations for “Legacy of the Forest” don't end with a short film. Tonight's guests, Ray and Lisa Haley, moved to a 3-acre property in the Ozarks of Arkansas back in 2022. For the first year they lived there, nothing unusual happened, largely because they had cleared a significant portion of their property. The following year, however, after letting nature reclaim the cleared land, strange things started to happen.In the summer of 2023, Ray and Lisa were sitting on their back porch when, all of a sudden, they were hit with a very foul odor that smelled like a mixture of death, skunk, and other nasty things. Just moments after that horrible odor appeared, a very loud, guttural scream rang out.When they heard the vocalization, they looked at each other with a “What was that?” expression on their faces. A frightening collision leaves Jared Young motionless on the field, but the Fox broadcast quickly becomes part of the story. Tonight's guest, Lisa, is a California-based Sasquatch investigator who has what could only be described as a dream situation for someone interested in studying Sasquatch. She has a family of Sasquatch living behind her property.Lisa had her first experience with them in October of 2023, shortly after moving to the property, and things ramped up from there. She's been living there for almost three years now, and since moving in, she's had numerous experiences with them. In the woods surrounding Irvine, California, there's an area tonight's guest, Sean Patterson, was drawn to when he was younger. He doesn't know why, but he always enjoyed spending time there while roaming the woods.More than 10 years later, Sean made an amazing discovery about that spot. On May 20th, 2019, at 9:35 AM, tonight's guest, Matt Lankford, was driving his 18-wheeler south on Highway 84, between Abilene and Coleman, Texas. At the time, he was about two-thirds of the way to Coleman when he looked ahead, to the right side of the highway, and saw what he initially thought was a black bull.As he got closer to the “bull,” the figure moved a short distance. When it did, it moved in such a strange way that its body seemed to undulate. After seeing it move, Matt began to wonder if what he was looking at might actually be a large, black hog.As Matt drew closer, however, his perception of the figure changed again. Now, he wondered if it might be a large man wearing a black arctic suit.When Matt got within a few hundred feet of the figure, though, he realized it wasn't a man. Late one night in 2012, tonight's guest was riding home with her fiancé in Marietta, Ohio, after feeding, watering, and exercising her horse where she had been boarding him. Her fiancé was driving, and “Mandy” had her feet up on the dashboard on the passenger side of his truck.As they drove past Sacra Via Park, all of a sudden, her fiancé slammed on the brakes and stopped the truck in the road. When Mandy looked over at him, he was white-knuckled, with a death grip on the steering wheel. When she asked him what was wrong, he told her that he had seen something he initially thought was a deer—but it wasn't a deer. As he described what he had seen, he was white as a sheet.Mandy never saw what her fiancé had seen that night, but the experience lit a fire in her. Using his description, she began doing exhaustive research in an attempt to figure out what it might have been. Eventually, she came to believe that what he had seen was most likely something called a Dogman.After reaching that conclusion, Mandy became almost obsessed with Dogmen. Her fascination with them eventually led her to seek out an encounter of her own. She began walking her dog, Boston, at night in the same park where her fiancé had seen the Dogman, hoping that, sooner or later, she would have a Dogman encounter of her own.As fate would have it, on a very hot night, around 2 AM, in August of 2013, while walking Boston in that park, Mandy finally got her wish.Unfortunately, the experience didn't affect her the way she thought it would. She thought she was ready to have a Dogman encounter, but she wasn't. Since that night, she's suffered from ongoing Dogman-related nightmares and night terrors. Located along the northern edge of the Endless Mountains, Susquehanna County is home to countless forest-covered, rolling hills and the kind of terrain that would make it easy for a large cryptid to remain hidden.Late one night, in November of 2016, Ken was driving his ex-girlfriend around while she delivered newspapers on a route the two of them had been warned about. The warnings came from friends of his ex-girlfriend who had previously delivered papers on that route. They told Ken and his ex to be careful because they had seen what they described as Yetis while making deliveries.Naturally, Ken and his girlfriend didn't know what to make of those warnings. They had no reason to believe anything like that could be in the area. Their views on the existence of large, unknown cryptids changed abruptly that night, however. What they encountered didn't resemble a Yeti. In fact, Dan's first experience happened all the way back in 1971, while he was staying at a church camp in Northern Wisconsin. He was on a cliff face, on the eastern side of Williams Canyon, tossing slate rocks over the edge so he could watch them smash on the ground below. Nine years ago, tonight's guest, Dave, contacted me to tell me about a Dogman encounter he'd had not long before reaching out to me. The encounter had traumatized him, and he contacted me hoping I could help him come to terms with what he'd experienced.Dave was no stranger to the woods. This week on Generation X Paranormal, Logan and Nicole investigate Whispers Estate in Mitchell, Indiana — and this may be one of the most unsettling investigations we've ever recorded. We were invited to Whispers Estate by Chris and Ana of AC Ghosthunters, and were joined by The Mysterious Mike and Sam for an investigation that produced some truly remarkable paranormal evidence. And this episode contains one of the most compelling and frightening Estes Sessions we've ever experienced. Whispers Estate is a historic Victorian home with a dark reputation. Reports surrounding the location include disembodied voices, shadow figures, phantom smells, unexplained noises, physical sensations, slamming doors, moving recording equipment, and other unexplained activity. Our investigation begins in the former doctor's office and surgery room, where we receive intriguing responses involving patients, illness, surgery and death. Logan also experiences a strange physical sensation and an unexplained smell that seems to appear from nowhere. Upstairs, a mysterious closet produces an unusually clear EVP: "Don't mess with me." In Rachel's Room, we capture a bizarre light anomaly that appears to materialize above the bed, move rapidly across the room and disappear. Then the Red Room delivers a massive unexplained bang, strange physical sensations and responses about someone being pulled from the bed. But the investigation takes a much darker turn when our paranormal sessions begin producing responses involving Dr. John Gibbons, death, murder, babies, graves and alleged human remains. The most compelling evidence comes during our Estes Session, where the responses become increasingly specific and disturbing. What's particularly strange is that Logan entered the investigation intentionally avoiding the reported paranormal history of Whispers Estate. Some of the questions he felt compelled to ask later appeared to correspond with information provided by the estate. After the investigation, we went back through the history and discovered that some of the most famous stories surrounding Whispers Estate — including the stories of Rachel and Elizabeth — may not line up perfectly with the documented historical record. So what actually happened inside Whispers Estate? Were we communicating with spirits connected to the house? Was the Estes Session actually giving us information from someone who knew its history? Just days after five teenagers were killed in a head-on collision when their car was driven the wrong way down the M9 motorway, leaving the family in the second car – three women and a seven-year-old boy - being treated in hospital, a staff member here at Clare FM says she was left “terrified” after encountering a vehicle allegedly travelling the wrong way on an M18 slip road near Gort.  Lily Collins says she came across the vehicle shortly after 7am on Wednesday morning and was forced to reverse off the slip road as it accelerated towards her.   Alan Morrissey has been speaking with Lily about the frightening encounter and the potentially devastating consequences of dangerous driving. Tonight's guest, Travis Simmons, started having Bigfoot experiences at a very young age.Years later, after moving to Tennessee, Travis finally had his first irrefutable Bigfoot sighting. It happened in 2012, when he was about 33 years old and living in the Knoxville area. At the time, Travis lived in an apartment complex that was in somewhat of a metropolitan area that had woods around it.Strangely, while he was at work earlier that day, Travis had a bad feeling that something was going to happen when he got home that night. That feeling stayed with him, so when he arrived home after work, he parked as close to his front door as he could. As soon as he opened his car door, he hurried to his apartment and rushed inside.Once he was safely inside, Travis turned around and stood in the doorway, scanning the complex for any signs of trouble. That's when he noticed a bush that looked… odd. Tonight's guest, Nick Pool, grew up on a farm in the hills of western Kentucky. As a kid, one of the things he looked forward to most was finally being old enough to deer hunt with his father and brother. His father had promised him that when he turned 11, he'd be old enough to join them.Bright and early on the second day of deer season, shortly after Nick's 11th birthday, his father walked him out to a tree stand Nick had built in a large section of woods near the family farm. Hidden within those woods was a secluded field, making it an ideal place to hunt. Nick settled into his stand before sunrise, and not long after the sun came up, he began hearing strange sounds. Immediately on high alert, he scanned the woods, trying to figure out what was making them.It wasn't long before he found out—and what he saw left him in complete shock. Standing before him was a 9-foot-tall Sasquatch!That incredible encounter wasn't the only experience Nick had with the family of Sasquatch that lived in the woods surrounding his family's farm. Over the years, he had many more encounters with them and eventually came to enjoy seeing them. Years later, however, he had a very different kind of experience—one involving another undocumented creature he encountered on a lonely back road. Unlike his Sasquatch encounters, this one wasn't enjoyable at all. In fact, that encounter is one of the reasons why Nick refuses to be in the woods alone, after dark now.Nick will be sharing all of those experiences on tonight's show. Two summers ago, tonight's guest, James, was sitting on the bank of Fellows Lake, near Springfield, Missouri, with his girlfriend when they had an incredible Sasquatch sighting. What made the experience so remarkable wasn't just seeing the Sasquatches—it was witnessing something they never imagined they would see.As they sat talking by the water, they noticed two reddish-brown figures standing about 50 yards offshore. In July of 2018, tonight's guest, Mallory, and her boyfriend traveled to the Buffalo National River area in Arkansas to hike to a remote waterfall.
