He is now writing epic fantasy with the Immortals' Blood Trilogy, for Gollancz; the first book, Smoke in the Glass, was published in 2019. Since 1997, PHAZE II has been providing Smooth and Funky Jazz sounds on the local music scene in the Washington, DC area, by honing its craft of delivering quality music to their listeners. PHAZE II has embarked on a journey to show the world the many talents that this jazz band has to offer. In 2001, PHAZE II released its first CD entitled, Options, which Smooth Jazz 105.9 radio personality, Al Santos, described as a very credible debut CD. The Options CD embraced creativity, powerful producing, collaboration, and above all, the musical gift that each band member offers. Backtalk, the sophomore CD released in 2004, has a unique style and versatile sounds that range from Latin Jazz to R&B. A stirring rendition of R&B artist, Musiq Soulchild’s Half Crazy, will surely put you in a mellow mood. Determined to broaden their vision, PHAZE II entered the 13th Annual Capital Jazz Festival2005 Capital Jazz Challenge Competition. This competition was sponsored by Washington DC’s Smooth Jazz 105.9 and Baltimore, Maryland’s Smooth Jazz 104.3. The final competition consisted of 6 bands chosen from 600 competition entries. Phaze II was chosen the winners of the competition received a monetary contribution and had the opportunity to open the next day on the Capital Jazz Festival’s main stage. PHAZE II has since performed at the Capital Jazz Festival for the past seven years with other national acts at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. This jazz ensemble has also been fortunate to back up various national artists such as; Jackiem Joyner, Marcus Anderson, Ken Navarro, Jimmy Sommers, Althea Renee, Paul Taylor, Jeff Golub, BK Jackson, Cindy Bradley, Bob Baldwin, Shelby Brown, Tony Exum Jr, Frank McComb, Lynn Fiddmont, Kevin Whalum and Lin Roundtree just to name a few. Phaze II has now become a very sought after band for artists when they come to perform in the Washington, DC area.

Bassist/Composer/Artist Darryl Williams is a first call bassist for many artists in the genre of Contemporary/Smooth Jazz, touring with artists like Euge Groove, Peter White, Michael Lington, Marc Antoine, Jackiem Joyner, Alex Bugnon, Gerald Albright and many more as well as being one of the main stage bassists for the Dave Koz and Friends at Sea Smooth Jazz cruise.  Darryl is also a member of the very successful, L.A. Collective band, along with guitarist Adam Hawley, keyboardist Greg Manning, and drummer Tony Moore.  The L.A. Collective originally came together as a backup band for different artists on the 2014 Dave Koz Cruise to Alaska. However, the band’s success catapulted them into deciding they would be a permanent fixture in the Southern California contemporary jazz music scene. Darryl is back to talk about his new release, Here to Stay, featuring Euge Groove, Ronnie Foster, drummer Tony Moore, guitarist Michael Simms, and more. Juxtaposing invigorating otherworldly sonicscapes under tender sax melodies, “Evolve” is a dynamic, highly-rhythmic session that is unpredictable laced with traces of the familiar. Listening will take you to a different place while defining Joyner as a musician and a writer beyond what we have already heard from the chart-topping rhythm and groove guy. The imaginative new set has a greater purpose with the introductory single, “Generation Next,” serving as “a declaration that the next generation of jazz musicians is here to stay. Music evolves, including jazz. All types of sound evolve. So do people and our imaginations. That is what I tried to put on tape. ‘Evolve' captures the changes in my musical mind and how I have evolved as an artist. Rather than fitting in with the traditional, I'm bringing the audience along with songs that unfold over different and interesting soundscapes even as I move towards a live organic sound,” explains Joyner. In addition to playing alto and soprano sax on the record, Joyner is a multi-instrumentalist who played many of the instruments heard on the collection along with a couple of high-profile assists from Grammy-nominated sax player Gerald Albright and internationally-renowned keyboardist Keiko Matsui. The collaborations are noteworthy for different reasons. When Joyner was in high school, Albright was his idol thus dueting with him on “Big Step” was a thrill. Joyner tours in Matsui's band when not performing his own dates and wrote “Europa” with her mind. On a few tracks, he was joined by his touring band – guitarist Kayta Matsuno, bassist Tim Bailey, keyboardist Bill Steinway and drummer Raymond Johnson – to record live in the studio.

Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia's southside, Bee Boisseau is a man of music.  He expanded upon his gospel music upbringing and jazz influences while studying at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, VA.
