This is a fun conversation to share, not only because it involves chatting with three very smart grad students from my alma mater, Auburn University, but also because the topic tackles an issue that is outside of what we might consider the "mainstream" of Applied Behavior Analysis. A few months ago, Ashley Anderson, Daniel Sheridan, and Anna Kate Edgemon reached out to me, and informed me of the great work they're doing supporting justice-involved youth in a juvenile detention setting. As I learned, there is some history of behavior analysts practicing in this area, and these grad students, led by Dr. John Rapp and colleagues, have been developing effective interventions in these settings. And when I say effective, I'm talking about incredibly low recidivism rates... But I'm getting ahead of myself. If this is unfamiliar territory for you, don't worry. We go over enough introductory terms and definitions to get you up to speed straight away. Also, there are some great meta-lessons embedded in this conversation about rapport building, staff training, cultural competence, teaching real-life skills, and more. So even if this specific topic is not your thing, there are parts of this interview that I think will apply to your practice. I left this conversation really inspired by the somewhat untapped potential for our field, and I hope the intervention strategies these guests and their colleagues are publishing become adopted at a much wider scale! We approach the business end of the decade and there are some absolute belters here . Matt and Jamie get their Zombie On with "Cell", discuss the nature of grief with king's personal fave " Lisey's Story". From one King fave , to the fave of a King, Jamie talks about why "Duma Key" is his standout novel. And via some short stories and discovered Bachman beauties , we end up with Big Ol Jim Rennie in Springfield, sorry, Chester's Mill in "Under The Dome". The boys argue the case for this decade rivalling the heavy hitters of the 70s.
So that plan to do the 80s in one episode proved to be as ambitious as trying to remember the cast list of "Under The Dome" without a cheat sheet. Just full of meaty goodness - King is having a wild ride in the 80s and we would love you to join us as we get lost in the blizzards of that decade. We talk Thinner, Talisman, It , Skeleton Crew and The Drawing Of The Three..
One day you might find yourself on a lonely stretch of road in the state of Maine, with a destination that doesn't show on any map. You do not listen to the friendly gas station attendant who tells that you'll find nothing there, but trouble. Even the waitress at the cozy diner asks why anyone would want to visit such a place. But, you've never been one to turn down an adventure, be it fool-hardy or not. However, upon arrival, you realize your grave mistake, a second too late of course. Welcome to a world created by Bangor's favorite author, for everyone knows, all roads lead to Stephen King. In this episode, Jon and RJ will take you through the dark and twisted literary universe of Stephen King. Now, not all of his work is strictly horror as you will see in our selected picks from his 60+ novels and short stories. It's actually quite difficult to focus on our individual 'Top 5' to culminate in a selected list of 10 pieces of work that give readers new and old, something to enjoy: Salem's Lot [1975] The Shining [1977] The Stand [1978] Dark Tower: The Gunslinger [1982] Desperation [1996] Under The Dome [2009] 11/22/63 [2011] Joyland [2013] Doctor Sleep [2013] Revival [2014] To round out this episode Jon and RJ took time examined the highs and lows of King's film adaptations, and there were some tremendous works of art, and absolute piles of shit to be found. Albeit, some of this can be attributed to some of King's extraneous drug and alcohol use, but neither Jon nor RJ can excuse the creation and follow through of Dreamcatcher. Dan and Jake make it to Maine before dealing with a killer clown from outer-space in part III of GateSlashers: I Want to Believe. If you enjoyed this episode and want to continue on our GateSlashers journey please enjoy our X-Files episode or our Devilman Crybaby episode! Host Geri Cole is joined by PACHINKO showrunner, writer, and producer Soo Hugh to talk about how the writers adapted the acclaimed novel to keep it focused on family over colonialism; the process of crafting a complex, authentic story that couldn't have been told the same way a decade ago; and the power inherent in telling extraordinary stories of ordinary people. Soo Hugh is a writer and producer whose past credits include sci-fi and horror drama series like CBS sci-fi mystery UNDER THE DOME, ABC sci-fi drama THE WHISPERS (which she created) and AMC horror anthology THE TERROR (for which she was co-showrunner), among others. She is currently serving as creator, writer, showrunner, and producer of the Apple TV period drama PACHINKO. Based on the acclaimed novel by author Min Jin Lee, PACHINKO chronicles the hopes and dreams of four generations of a Korean immigrant family. The story begins with a forbidden love, and crescendos into a sweeping saga that journeys between Korea, Japan, and America to tell an unforgettable story of war, peace, love and loss, triumph and reckoning. The series' first three episodes premiered in March 2022, and new episodes are streaming weekly on AppleTV+. --- Before it was a podcast, OnWriting was a print publication. The Good Wife Marathon Diarist Kim is back to discuss the un-Moored return of Project Greenlight, and whether a fourth season a decade in the making is off to a first-rate start. Tara shared a You're The Worst Tiny Triumph that is kind of the best before Liv weighed in on two weeks of Face Off and we all bid Under The Dome its overdue (but still dumb) farewell. We went around the dial with Playing House, Colbert's first week, a true-crime show that's actually decent, a pilot that isn't, another Star Wars ad, and the lameness of Good Wife S06 before Tara oppo-researched the hell out of Buntsy's sitcom preferences as she tried to get a Veep episode into the Canon. Ugly cars won, Johnny Depp lost, and Game Time fell into a K-hole. Don't put this episode of Extra Hot Great in turnaround: listen now! GUESTS

Now that Playing House's second season is well underway, we've invited Nick Rheinwald-Jones, one of its staunchest fans, to join us for a discussion of how things are going so far. Tara shares a Playing House-based Tiny Triumph, after which it's time for Liv to report on the latest Face Off, and for Tara to share the latest insanity from Under The Dome. Around The Dial stops at Regular Show, Show Me A Hero, Drunk History, Project Greenlight, Hannibal, and the apparently infinite galaxy of Star Wars toy ads from the '80s. Nick makes a case for the induction of the Veronica Mars episode "Spit And Eggs" into the Canon, and then after naming the week's Winner and Loser, we dive into Rob Hartmann's latest diabolical Game Time. Load up some gingi and new-news and enjoy! GUESTS

As Humans (heard of 'em) wraps its first season, John Ramos joins us to talk about the titular humans and their synth friends...and foes! Liv tells us all about a wedding-themed episode of Face Off, and Tara takes us through the latest idiocy making us all Domer on Under The Dome. Around The Dial stops at Last Week Tonight, Show Me A Hero, Rectify, Mr. Robot, and another confounding Star Wars toy ad. Dave makes a singular case for the submission to The Canon of the G.I. Joe episode "The Viper Is Coming," and no, that is not a very long typo. Then, after naming the week's Winner and Loser, we close up with a Game Time that takes us through all of life's biggest events! Top up your synth fluid and join us! GUESTS
Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan joined the gang this week to take a closer look at Project Runway as it returns for a fourteenth season. Liv trolled us in her Face Off report, Tara recharged the amethysts Under The Dome with rage, and we went around the dial with Jon Stewart, Cait Jenner, Becoming Us, Nic Pizzicato Five, the resurgence of Big Brother, and the lies Saturday-morning ads tell -- before Heather wigged us out with a Melrose Place Canon submission. We declared a winner and loser, then scaled a traditional Egyptian burial structure for 25 Dave points in this week's Game Time. Work wives, dead wives, crying and cutting: we've got it all (plus a ton of TV Republicans for some reason?) on an all-new Extra Hot Great. GUESTS
Since summer TV is no longer dumber TV, we've invited Mark Blankenship back to the Blankenship Chair to join us for a discussion of our most winning series picks! Niece Liv -- now seven years old -- returns to bring us the scoop on Face Off's Season 9 premiere, and then Tara tells us the latest ways Under The Dome has made us Domer. Mark makes a case for the induction of Downton Abbey's S05E03 to the Nonac -- the reverse Canon -- and then after identifying the Winner & Loser Of The Week, we finish up with a very critical Game Time. Turn up the AC and enjoy! GUESTS
Eve Batey makes it a threequel when she returns to discuss -- and diagnose -- Scream with the rest of the gang. We met the newest EHG-themed shirts, despaired of Under The Dome, and recommended Bosch, UnREAL, and British reality-show sleep aids, and Dave was hopeful about Daredevil's second season. Tara and Melanie explained (at normal volumes) why they are NOT Crackpots before we congratulated Lester Holt and shunned Jared Fogle. And I don't want to alarm you guys but Game Time is COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE. (Unless it was only the cat.) GUESTS
Our esteemed colleague Nick willingly trapped himself Under The Dome as CBS's summer "hit" returns for another season of crappy acting, bad CGI, and inexplicable character beats. After Sarah ripped off a rant about jeans and we compared jazz unfavorable with a certain True Detective's anti-bullying regime, we went around the dial with Key & Peele, A History of Radness, European shows of Dave enjoyment, and the excellent wardrobe in a bad ad. The Panel considered The Alias for The Inclusion in The Canon and we cringed at Messrs. Trump and Lecter before a Game Time on finales. If you can jump the chasm of killer butterflies, join us at the Zenith of fun on an all-new Extra Hot Great. GUESTS
Have a/some Coke and a smile as our esteemed colleague John Ramos returns to discuss whether Mad Men and Don Draper got a proper sendoff -- and Buntsy finally stops torturing Dave with the DB Cooper thing. (Probably.) We discuss Nashville, vintage ads, crappy Washingtons, and Under The Dome trolling Tara before Sarah proposes another Weiner-related finale, The Sopranos's "Made In America," for its Canon button. Mindy won, Gossip Girl lost, and the panel put on ears for a Game Time about signature sounds. Pack your "The Suitcase" and take a hobo trip with these friends of ours on an all-new Extra Hot Great. GUESTS
Our long, long three-week hiatus comes to an end with the return of John Ramos, and a discussion of new fall series -- the ones each of us are into; the ones we should be into but aren't; and the ones we feel no one should be into. After Olivia's latest Face Off report (warning: contains Beauty And The Beast and Frozen spoilers), we go around the dial to touch on Couples Therapy, The Chair, Iyanla, Fix My Life, and an insane rant from Dave about marketing The Blacklist. The episode also features Tiny Triumphs, the Domest thing about the latest Under The Dome, John's submission of the Enlisted series finale to the Canon, and finally the week's Winner and Loser and a Game Time that is fought...navally. GUESTS
Alan Sepinwall joins us for his first-ever full episode of the podcast for a discussion of The Knick! After Face Off correspondent Olivia Kwan updates us on Episode 3, we go around the dial with Outlander, Dirk Gently, Amy Pascale's new Joss Whedon biography, and Extreme Guide To Parenting. Sarah shares a couple of recent Tiny Triumphs, Tara tells us why We Are All Domer for knowing anything at all about Under The Dome, Alan presents the Cheers episode "Endless Slumper" for submission into The Canon. Then it's on to the week's Winner and Loser and a musical Game Time. Dip your beard in some water and scrub in! GUESTS
The return of SyFy's Face Off brings series expert/first-time guest Monty Ashley (plus six-year-old fan Olivia Kwan) to the podcast to talk locked molds, co-operation, and why taking one class with your son might not be adequate preparation for a prospective contestant on the show. Then Sarah's network craps out and we're forced to carry on without her to talk Ancient Aliens, the original Batman TV series, and Married At First Sight. Tara inaugurates a new Under The Dome segment and Dave shares a Batman Day Tiny Triumph, and then it's on to Monty's Canon submission: the "Scott Tenorman Must Die" episode of South Park. Tara names the week's Winner and Loser, and then it's on to a very educational Game Time. Without giving anything away...trust when we say this episode is more suspenseful than most. GUESTS
If we were going to be talking about the greatest TV bad-asses in a variety of sub-categories, it seemed obvious that we would need to bring bad-ass Omar Gallaga into the mix to join us and share his picks. We then move on to an Around The Dial segment that takes us through Restaurant Start-Up, Under The Dome, the World Cup, and The Strain. The pre-cancellation of Hieroglyph and Dave's timely discovery of a pilot script online inspired a very special Is This Worse Than Jazz?. Omar presents the "Rick Potion #9" episode of Rick And Morty for submission into The Canon, and then after naming the week's Winner and Loser, we all place our bids in a Price Is Right-y Game Time. Put on your toughest leather jacket and enjoy! GUESTS
