We'd love to hear from you about this episode. The written word has always been a distinct part of the human experience, capturing our history and creating beautiful stories to escape into. Some of the earliest discovered writings were poetry, with many celebrating the natural world as its muse.Humans have a complex and symbiotic relationship with nature, although the modern understanding of nature can often oversimplify our relationship with our environment. Poetry is a beautiful way to bolster mental and emotional wellness by providing comfort and boosting mood during periods of stress and trauma. The powerful combination of meter, metaphor, and imagery helps us make sense of the world around us and how we fit into it. Different studies have found that poetry can be therapeutic for patients dealing with various types of adversity.Welcome to Episode Forty of The Nature of Wellness Podcast. On this episode, we sat down with nature poet and wellness advocate Jennifer Gordon. Jennifer is a yoga instructor, meditation guide, fitness instructor, avid hiker, and runner. Born out of "writing to process personal trauma," Jennifer has published three poetry collections since 2021, mainly covering themes of love, loss, and the natural world. Her third project, "Blue-Colored Muse," collaborates with different Michigan visual artists to celebrate the natural world. Join us as we talk to Jennifer about her connections to nature and wellness, how advice from a mental health provider prompted multiple published works, and how nature inspires her to quiet her mind and "just keep going." She shares the importance of finding joy in self-care, how learning to process emotions can lead to a beautiful life trajectory, the power of communities, and her advice for anyone who wants to begin writing…she even reads a couple of her nature poems. This conversation was a beautiful start for soothing our souls and filling our hearts. Please subscribe, rate, and leave a review anywhere you listen to this podcast. We appreciate you all. In episode 24, Jennifer Gordon, a professional ballroom dancer, choreographer, actor, and a writer of Gothic fiction, talks about how two of her novels were inspired by past-life memories:The characters in her novels have a core group of songs in their headHer books “Daylight Into Madness” and “When The Sleeping Dead Still Talk” were influenced by past life memoriesWhile under hypnosis during past life regression sessions, she saw scenes that would eventually take form in her novelsShe had been told by several psychics that the veil between her memories and her past lives were very thinSome of her past life memories were recorded during hypnosis sessions that she otherwise could not have recalledHow she is able to distinguish past life memories from dreams One of her hypnosis sessions recordings captures her speaking in a voice that did not sound like hers- when she thought she had fallen asleepIt is possible that many writers unknowingly draw on past life memories for their work, especially when they say ” I didn't write this story, the characters did.”How we are older beings than we think we areFor more info: www.jenniferannegordon.com

She graduated from the New Hampshire Institute of Art, where she studied Acting. She also studied at the University of New Hampshire with a concentration in Art History and English. She has made her living as an actress, a magician's assistant, a "gallerina", a comic book dealer, a painter, and burlesque performer and for the past 10 years as an award-winning professional ballroom dancer, performer, instructor, and choreographer. The latest book from the critically acclaimed author of Beautiful, Frightening, and Silent; Jennifer Anne Gordon. On an almost uninhabitable rocky island off the coast of Maine, a Hotel looms over the shore, an ever-present gray lady that stands strong like a guard, keeping watch. For many who come here, this island is a sanctuary and a betrayal. This is a place where memories linger like ghosts, and the ephemeral nature of time begins to peel away …like the sanity of all who have been unlucky enough to step foot on its shore. In the late spring of 1873, Isabelle gave birth to her son Oscar, he cried for three startling minutes, and then went silent. During the months that follow, Isabelle is drugged and lulled into an almost hallucinatory world of grief and fear. Her life begins to feel as though it exists in a terrifying new reality separated from those around her …When her grieving begins to make her husband, Henry, uncomfortable, he and his mother conspire to send Isabelle away to a Summer Hotel on Dagger Island, where she can rest and heal. While they are adamant that the hotel is not an asylum and that Isabelle will be able to return eventually to her home, Isabelle understands in her heart that it is all a lie. That perhaps, everything about being a woman in this time, may have always been a lie.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. Disgraced wastrel and former history Professor R.B. Ol' Matty discovers and begrudgingly introduces the first ever Delicious Word Sandwich frozen tape! Here, Ol' Matty had the absolute honour of discussing Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting of Hill House" and Jennifer Gordon's debut novel "Beautiful, Frightening and Silent" with none other than the author herself, Jennifer Gordon. Sharing their writing dreams, triumphs, trials and literary tattoo ideas, Ol' Matty and Jennifer Gordon delve into wonderful psychological journeys and grapple soul-curdling horror to masterfully conjure not one, but two Delicious Word Sandwiches of the most unique, experimental, delectable and appropriately terrifying nature. Dr Jekyll wishes he could do horror and madcap concoctions this good.Jennifer Gordon's Beautiful, Frightening and Silent is available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited.EPISODE NOTES:As we know, your ol' pal Ol' Matty is lost in time. According to some misprinted history textbooks, he has spent/is spending much time in Paris trying to defeat Jim Pawsby, the immortal demon bear that has declared itself the dark monarch of the city of lights. While he is doing that, the disgraced wastrel and former history Professor R.B. Ol'Matty reluctantly introduces a prized relic of Delicious Word Sandwich history: the frozen tapes. Why Ol' Matty recorded dynamite interviews onto tape, then put those tapes into the freezer, is anyone's guess. Then again, no one should be surprised. The tape, however, is surprising. Ol' Matty blows nothing up, doesn't destroy any prized monuments or summon any kind of scourge of the world. Instead, what follows is a fun and in-depth chat with author Jennifer Gordon about her favourite works by Shirley Jackson, what sandwiches they would make, how to properly support and gently stalk your favourite author, and her own debut novel, "Beautiful, Frightening and Silent", the tale of an alcoholic man tortured by survivor's guilt who journeys to a haunted island for the chance to see the ghost of his four-year old son, only to find a crumbling old boarding house and himself becoming involved with a beautiful and manipulative ghost who has spent 60 years tormenting the now elderly man who was her lover, and ultimately her murderer.Beautiful, Frightening, and Silent is a poetic fever dream of grief, love, and the terrifying ways that obsession can change who we are.Love stories? Love hearing about the tales of old with Ol' Matty but want to know them yourself? Want to join the Book Club Sandwich but don't have the time or desire to sit down and read? Well, you dolt, check out Audible, where you can drive to your destination and faraway lands all at once. P.S.
