Len thanks Paul for his earnest efforts to provide quality research to the public & JFK researchers. People tune into shows like Black Op Radio, Joe Rogan & Jimmy Dore to hear authentic research. Attorneys Burt Griffin & Leon Hubert, leads for the Warren Commission's investigation into Ruby. Paul found an 11 page memo when researching while writing "Death To Justice" Was Jack Ruby connected to Lee Harvey Oswald? Did they collaborate together? Griffin memo to J. Lee. Rankin reveals the men had many unanswered questions, desiring more answers. Griffin really latched on to DPD Sgt. Patrick Dean, feeling that he was highly suspicious. Dean was really the catalyst for the charge of premeditation for the charge of murder against Ruby. March 24, 1964 Sgt. Patrick Dean was questioned by attorney Burt Griffin for the Warren Commission. The next day, March 25th, Dean filed a complaint against Griffin, who was then ordered back to D.C.. Dean was basically the star witness for the Dallas Police Department in Jack Ruby’s trial. When a Canadian from Victoria called in to say they had footage of the assassination, Dean took the call. Dean tripped himself up when Griffin questioned Dean about the door that lead from the Annex building. Dean was in charge of the security for Dallas City Hall basement in preparation of Oswald’s transfer. Why did the DPD & the Warren Commission protect Sgt. Patrick Dean? Dean was the one who assigned two reserve officers at the entrance way that Ruby utilized. How did Dean indirectly remove these two reserve officers from the basement? Ruby's business partner, Bertha Cheek, was sister in law to Oswald's landlord at the rooming house. Why did Jack Ruby kill Oswald? Griffin & Hubert recommended that Oswald's murder should have it's own chapter in the WC Report. Railroading Griffin & Hubert's investigation basically ended the probe into Ruby & Oswald’s relationship. Dean gave another statement to the Warren Commission, but in D.C., where was he was basically apologized to. In the middle of June or July of 1964, Dean personally asked to have a polygraph test. Unbelievably, even with Dean writing his own questions, he failed his own polygraph test! The results to Dean's failed polygraph test were never given to the Warren Commission! Declared lost! These notes were unavailable for the HSCA's investigation, Dean was called before the HSCA again. Although questioned, the questioning was about how Dean was questioned by the Warren Commission in ‘64. Why did Dean say in his interviews to media on Nov. 24th that he'd seen Ruby enter down the Main St. Ramp? The lawyers wanted to look into the anti-Castro & Dallas Police Dept. connections of Ruby's. Dean took a trip to the third floor of City Hall where he got instructions to take Sorrels to question Jack Ruby. Dean himself appears to be an example compartmentalization on an individual. On the evening of November 24th, after the shooting, there was a meeting back at Jack Ruby's apartment. Attorney Tom Howard was at this meeting. Howard was also present in the basement when Ruby shot Oswald. George Senator, Ruby's roommate & business partner, did not discuss the meeting of the 24th when interviewed. When there are multiple discrepancies & things don't...

Historically Thinking: Conversations about historical knowledge and how we achieve it

On two separate trips, he traveled throughout the southeastern corner of the North American continent. He collected plants, and seeds, which he sent to interested amateur plantsmen and gardeners, as well as some of the foremost naturalists of the age. But he also collected animals and birds, and spent his time making drawings of birds. Eventually he would even read a scientific paper before the Royal Society in London that was the first to describe the migration of birds.  This pioneering naturalist was not, as some of you might have guessed, John James Audubon. Nor was it, as some of the smart kids in the front row might think, either John or William Bartram. It was Mark Catesby, whose two separate sojourns in Virginia and South Carolina–lasting together over a decade–led many years later to the publication Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands, the first ever illustrated account of American flora and fauna. And yet very few of you have ever heard his name. With me to talk about Mark Catesby and his world, both natural and cultural, is Patrick Dean, author of Nature's Messenger: Mark Catesby and his Adventures in a New World. He was last on the podcast in Episode 223 describing the first expeditions to reach the top of Denali, described in his first book A Window to Heaven. For Further Investigation A digital edition of the Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands--Patrick Dean writes, "I used it a lot, as you can imagine!" In June 1913, a group of four men ascended to the peak of Denali, the first humans known to have reached the highest point in North America. Historically Thinking: Conversations about historical knowledge and how we achieve it

Denali, the mountain formerly sometimes known (but not by Alaskans) as Mt. McKinley, is one of the most impressive mountains in the entire world. It is not only the highest mountain in North America, it is the highest northern-most mountain. That means that the weather at its summit is ferocious and ever-changing. It's height is so great that when that weather clears away, it can be seen across an enormous swathe of Alaska. It is the kind of mountain that challenged Victorians to climb it. By 1913 several attempts had already been made to summit Alaska's Denali, the highest mountain in North America. That year its peak was finally reached by four men: Harry Karstens, a prospector, hunter, and guide; Walter Harper, a native Alaskan; Robert Tatum, an Episcopalian seminary student; and the Right Reverend Hudson Stuck, missionary archdeacon of the Episcopal Church in Alaska. What that curious group was doing at such an altitude is the story of Patrick Dean's book A Window to Heaven: The Daring First Ascent of Denali: America's Wildest Peak. It's by turn a biography of Hudson Stuck, a history of religious life in late 19th century America, a history of Alaska at the moment of immense social change, and a story seemingly co-written by Jack London. For Further Investigation Hudson Stuck's books are all open domain and available through archive.org  The Alaska Native Reader: History, Culture, Politics, edited by Maria Sháa Tláa Williams Denali: Deception, Defeat, & Triumph–a history of early attempts to summit

You know the patriarchy is on it's last leg when it can't handle the decision to make highly gendered, gender-normative, heteronormative toys taking a look around themselves and deciding that potatoes probably don't need highly gendered performance when children play with them. But you know, that's what happened when Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head transitioned to just be Potato Head. You would think they would get tired at some point, or break their pearls off from clutching them for so hard...or maybe that's just our naive hope. It's not the representation we deserve, but it is a step down the right path, or as much as global capitalist organization can be counted upon to enact. From there we cover the amazing prospect of an Equality Act passing Congress sometime in the next...sometime. And why these small steps really are important to the day-to-day lives of Queer individuals in this country, and hopefully all others. Finally John and Dean talk about the new Billie Eilish documentary. They are strictly divided along artist/producer lines. Dean identified way too much with Finneas, except for the incredible difference in ability to produce number one tracks and albums. More the annoyed at the artist for being too picky and not wanting to actually record the music, for their music album. John disagrees, but he's not writing these show notes. It's a great watch that only took us three tries to get through. But it brought up major Britney vibes from the still present need of record labels and even fans to posses pop stars, sometime bodily. Go watch it!

Trigger Warning: In this episode John and Dean talk about John's battle with addiction and his journey through recovery. Please listen if you can, but if you will be triggered to use by descriptions of drug use and their effects, please keep yourself safe. John and Dean are sad to see one of their beloved Gay Bars, The Toasted Walnut, close due to the pandemic. It was one of the best spots in the Gayborhood for Dean, and a place of some really great memories, including a Karaoke night that John and Dean loved. We're sad to see it go, and we hope that after the pandemic has eased its grip on public spaces, something else will take its place as Lesbian bars are being hit the hardest. After that, John shares a very hard story, his story with addiction. It started almost too easily, but then grew into a life altering battle that nearly claimed his own life twice. Dean share his own experience with substance use, both in his family and for himself. This is an important story to tell, as it may help others who are struggling seek help, and maybe keep others from repeating some of the same, naive and sex-focused mistakes that John underwent. If you need help, it's always there, but asking is the hardest part.
