La Biblioteca Libro Alegre, conocida por ser un espacio especializado en literatura para las infancias, iniciará su cartelera cultural con “La melodía de los cuentos” presentando la lectura musicalizada de La leyenda de Bluebonnet del escritor e ilustrador Tomie dePaola. En esta instancia se lanzará “Koha” el nuevo sistema digital de catalogación para consultar los más de 10 mil libros disponibles y gestionar los préstamos de manera más ágil. Esta iniciativa es posible gracias al proyecto “Mejora e innovación de los servicios de biblioteca Libroalegre” financiado por el Fondo Nacional de Fomento del Libro y la Lectura, Convocatoria 2024. “La melodía de los cuentos” es una actividad que consiste en la lectura dramatizada y la musicalización de diversos cuentos presentes en el catálogo de las Bibliotecas Libroalegre de Cerro Alegre y Montedónico. La leyenda de Bluebonnet contará con la lectura de la actriz Cataliza Rivera y la musicalización en vivo de Francisca Maturana y se realizará en la Biblioteca de Cerro Alegre ubicada en San Enrique 339 A. María Antonia Carrasco, Coordinadora de Libroalegre, explicó que: “después del receso de las vacaciones, invitamos a las familias a que vengan a ver y escuchar La leyenda de Bluebonnet, un cuento de la tradición oral de los indios norteamericanos. Este relato es recontado e ilustrado por el estadounidense de origen italiano Tomie dePaola, un autor clásico de la literatura infantil contemporánea. En la historia aparece, por un lado, el tema de la naturaleza y por otro, el de la entrega y generosidad de una niña, la protagonista, para salvar a su pueblo que está enfrentando una sequía que amenaza con aniquilarlos”. “En la presentación proyectamos las imágenes del cuento mientras se lee y los espectadores ven las imágenes a la vez que están escuchando el relato acompañado de música. Con esta presentación iniciamos la cartelera cultural de Libroalegre después de las vacaciones. Este año tendremos un espectáculo mensual los días sábado, siempre vinculados a la literatura infantil y juvenil de hoy. Además, también invitaremos a funciones cerradas a grupos de escuelas y hogares de menores para darles un acceso especial a nuestra cartelera”, precisó. Este año trae para la comunidad de las bibliotecas Libroalegre la mejora de dos servicios: la implementación del sistema digital de catalogación y consulta para los más de 10 mil títulos disponibles distribuidos en las bibliotecas de Cerro Alegre y población Montedónico y mejoras técnicas en materia de amplificación e iluminación de las presentaciones de la programación artística y cultural. Con esto, se busca generar una experiencia artística de calidad para los públicos que visitan y participan de las actividades que realiza la organización a lo largo de todo el año. El nuevo sistema de catálogo y préstamo de las bibliotecas Libroalegre incorpora el software libre creado en Nueva Zelanda llamado Koha, una palabra maorí que significa “obsequio o donación”. Se trata de un sistema de actualización automática vinculado al sistema de préstamos, que permitirá obtener información inmediata acerca de los libros disponibles. Con este nuevo sistema, todos los servicios de biblioteca pasan a estar en línea y el acceso se puede realizar desde cualquier dispositivo móvil a través del sitio https://catalogo.libroalegre.cl/. “Koha fue el primer sistema integrado de gestión de código abierto, y bibliotecas de diversos tamaños y ámbitos de todo el mundo lo utilizan desde su aparición. Es un sistema vivo que continúa siendo desarrollado cada día por una comunidad de programadores y bibliotecarios de numerosos países, y algo destacable es que su diseño es ajeno a cualquier intención comercial o corporativa”, enfatiza María Antonia. Las actividades artísticas y culturales de Libroalegre son gratuitas para el público y son posibles gracias al Programa de Apoyo a las Organizaciones Culturales Colaboradoras (PAOCC) del Ministerio de las Culturas, las Artes y el Patrimonio, que impulsa a organizaciones culturales sin fines de lucro. In spring, the hills and meadows of Texas and Wyoming are ablaze with the reds, oranges, and yellows of the Indian Paintbrush. How this striking plant received its name is told in an old Indian legend. Many years ago, when the People traveled the Plains, a young Indian boy had a Dream-Vision in which it was revealed that one day he would create a painting that was as pure as the colors of the evening sky at sunset. The boy grew up to become the painter of the tribe, but although he found a pure white buckskin for a canvas and made paints from the brightest flowers and the reddest berries, he could not capture the sunset. James also performed Rabbit in Telling Stories with Tomie dePaola, various characters on the Fox sitcom Greg the Bunny and lent his voice to characters on the Disney direct-to-video film The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars and the Fox Kids series Life with Louie, starring the late Louie Anderson!

Tomie dePaola was one of the most beloved authors and illustrators of children's books of the last 50 years. When he died in 2020, readers of all ages mourned. While many knew him best for his Strega Nona stories, dePaola also wrote and illustrated many books about Catholic saints and feast days, as well as adaptations of Bible stories.   Sarah Mackenzie, author and founder of Read-Aloud Revival, got to know Tomie dePaola in the last several years of his life, visiting him in his studio and corresponding with him regularly. I miss my friend Tomie dePaola. In celebration of the US Postal Service issuing a Strega Nona stamp in his honor, I wanted to share this interview that I conducted with Tomie in the early 20-teens. Tomie's friendship is actually intertwined with the love story between me and Gina. When we started dating in 2006, she had her childhood copy of STREGA NONA with her in her Boston apartment. That book meant the world to her. About a month after dating Gina, I met Tomie at a conference. We were both out at the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators annual out in Los Angeles. Tomie and I became fast friends, and I bought the big Art of Tomie book and had it signed to both Gina and me. That was a big step -- a hardcover book signed to the both of us? But by then, I knew. And when Gina saw that i had the book signed to the both of us, well...she knew I knew.Over the years, Gina and I cherished our time with Tomie. He even dedicated a Strega Nona book to us! And it was a Christmas book as well, a holiday that both Tomie and Gina went over the top for.I hope that you enjoy this trip down memory lane. Craig Shemin is a former Jim Henson Company staff writer and currently serves as the President of The Jim Henson Legacy. Shemin began his career with Henson as a college intern during the summer of 1987. After he graduated, he was hired in the Public Relations Department, during which time he also worked with the Jim Henson Archives. By 1996, however, he had transitioned to writing, contributing to a wide array of programming, merchandising, and appearances.In TV, Shemin served as writer and consultant (and sometimes lyricist) for the first season of The Wubbulous World of Dr Seuss and received a Writer's Guild of America Award nomination for his work on the show. For the Hallmark Channel, Craig co-wrote all 26 episodes of Telling Stories with Tomie dePaola and contributed to two seasons of Donna's Day. Shemin also co-wrote a single episode of Dog City ("Comedy of Horrors").For Jim Henson's Muppet Stories book series, Shemin wrote three short stories for The Muppet Show characters as illustrated by Richard Walz: "Let Me Help!" and "Forgetful Rowlf" from Off to Storyland, and "Hot Off the Presses" from Cozy Campfire Stories.In the multi-media realm, Shemin scripted two 1996 video games, Muppets Inside and Muppet Treasure Island, as well as MuppetWorld.com's MuppeToon series and the lyrics to the "Muppets Party Cruise Rag." Jim Lewis Show Notes On this episode, The Barretta Brothers welcome Emmy Award-winning writer/producer, Jim Lewis to discuss his decades of work with The Muppets, The Jim Henson Company, and much more.   ABOUT OUR GUEST: Jim Lewis JIM LEWIS is an Emmy Award-winning writer/producer, who has been writing for frogs, pigs and other Muppets since 1985, where he worked with the late Jim Henson.   At The Jim Henson Company and later at The Walt Disney Company, Jim Lewis has written for, produced, consulted on and otherwise aided and abetted Muppet ventures in television and movies (e.g. Muppets Tonight!, A Very Merry Muppet Christmas) , theme parks (e.g. MuppetVision 3D, Great Moments In History…But Mostly America), as well as consumer products, live performances (e.g. The Muppets Take The Hollywood Bowl, The Muppets The O2) and media appearances, public relations and marketing. He has ghostwritten books for Kermit the Frog (“Look Before You Leap”), Miss Piggy (“The Diva Code”) and Pepe the King Prawn (“It's Hard Out Here For a Shrimp”). He also developed and wrote a Muppet feature script with Frank Oz, “The Cheapest Muppet Movie Ever”. He still believes this should be the next Muppet theatrical feature. Jim lives in Burbank, California with his wife, Judy, and son Danny. His daughter Mary Grace is at UC Berkeley and currently has green hair. No doubt a vestige of her living with a parent who has spent his life writing for a frog.

Inga Boudreau grew up on a farm in Westerlo, the daughter of German artisans. Her mother, a sculptress, could recreate a Chanel outfit by looking at a picture and she told stories that came from the heart. Her father heeded Will Rogers’ words — “Buy land; they’re not making it anymore — and in 1932, sight unseen, bought a 200-acre farm in Westerlo for about $300. Inga and her sister attended the grade school in Westerlo and then went on to graduate from Berne-Knox High School. Boudreau fondly remembers two of her English teachers: in eighth grade, John O’Leary taught her respect for the English language; in high school, Nancy Hayden told her, “Never stop writing because you gave me chills.” Boudreau never did stop. With master’s degrees from New York University and Columbia, she launched a career in children’s book publishing. Trouble was, all the libraries are closed and Betsy couldn't get a physical copy of this book. Happily, Overdrive offered this ebook for borrowing. The title totally threw Kate off, and Betsy couched it by saying that it is considered one of the original GLBTQIA+ books created for kids in America. It is by NO means as brave as Heather Has Two Mommies, but it has its place in the culture. I can't wait to reunite with our cast and crew for Season 2.” Discovery Season 3 Delay When is “Star Trek: Discovery” season 3 going to start? Well, it may not be as soon as we originally thought. Back in January, Heather Kadin suggested to Trekcore that Discovery Season 3 could be released as early as May 2020, but amid the Covid-19 pandemic, it looks like the series is facing delays. The holdup was first hinted at during an Instagram live-chat with Discovery Star Wilson Cruz. According to comicbook.com, fellow Co-star Anthony Rapp noted in the comment section that the post-production work was being done from home - and the process was taking a bit more time than expected. On March 18th, Cruz seconded Rapp’s sentiments, tweeting ”I didn’t see @albinokid’s comment this morning on #InstagramLive... but see for yourself in regards to #startrekdiscovery season 3. It’s coming, but it may be a little longer than we thought... It’s coming though!” You can rest assured, we’ll be keeping a close eye out for release dates, so stayed tuned! Destination Star Trek Germany Delayed Discovery season 3’s release date isn’t the only Star Trek being delayed due to Covid-19. One of Trek’s biggest conventions - Destination Star Trek Germany - is being pushed back as well. In a release, the Destination Star Trek Germany team said in part “Our main concern is the health, safety and wellbeing of our participants, guest stars and everyone who is part of the DST family. For this reason, we have decided to postpone the event until October 9th to 11th, 2020, we hope that the virus will not be a problem until then and that we can all beam into the world of Star Trek and celebrate together! :-)” The convention, which was set to take place in early May, will remain at the same location. From the release “The venue in Dortmund is the same and all tickets already purchased remain valid for the new dates. If you are unable to attend the new dates, please contact us.” Stewart and Shatner Spread Cheer In times of great stress, we look to our leaders for guidance and direction; calmness and support...Thank goodness we have our heroic Captain’s - Kirk and Picard! Captain Kirk did something very William Shatner, he TWEETED. Well, Shatner tweeted, but he tweeted in the form of a Captains log. Starting on March 18th, the logs began “Captain’s Log: Stardate 1 of self imposed isolation. After having arrived at Planet Home, I was warmly greeted by Emissaries Espresso & Macchiato. I look forward to my planned respite from my normal duties. Kirk out.”. Shatner has done a log everyday since, including a supplemental, and we hope he continues until his 14 day isolation is complete Not to be outdone, Sir Patrick Stewart ALSO took to social media in an effort to distract and entertain. On March 21st, Sir Patrick tweeted a video of himself reciting Shakespeare's Sonnet 116. It was a beautiful performance, and received its due attention - which Stewart recognized. “I was delighted by the response to yesterday's posting of Shakespeare's Sonnet 116, and it has led me to undertake what follows…” What followed was Stewart reciting Sonnets 1 - and the next day Sonnet 2 - with the hashtag “ASonnetADay”. There was no post for Tuesday March 24th at the time of this writing, but we are hopeful and confident Sonnet 3 is on the way! Picard Cast and Crew Entertain During Quarantine Heading over to Instagram, Picard showrunner and Pulitzer Prize winning author Michael Chabon appealed to audiences young and old by reciting something different - children’s books! Chabon started the Read-along with a book he authored - “The Astonishing Secret of Awesome Man”. The videos continued with “Strega Nona Meets Her Match” by Tomie dePaola and have continued every day since! The delivery is gentle and excited, and a wonderful activity to share with your children - or even to watch by yourself! Also on Instagram, fellow Picard-ian - Santiago Cabrera - posted a video in which he, and his Ukelele, perform a rendition of Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds”. Star Trek Online and Gaming News by Shane Hoover Second Summer Ship Stream This week on Twitch, Ambassador Kael hosted Christian Griffith, a Cryptic test analyst, drawing his interpretation of a Risian Science Vessel. This was the second of four weekly streams being presented by Cryptic in the design of the upcoming Summer Event prize ship. Christian worked with feedback from Lead Ship and UI Artist Thomas Marrone this week. Unlike last week’s stream featuring Nick Duguid at work on a 3-D model, Christian put pen to paper to sketch his concept. While hitting on some of the same nautically inspired ideas as Nick’s design, Christian took his drawing in a very different direction. After all four weeks of concept designs are completed, Cryptic will open up a voting contest to players. The winning design will be sent to Concept Artist Hector Ortiz for final drawing, and will then become the new Summer Event Ship for 2020. Duty Officer Pack Changes Along with a 30% off sale and a Promotion Pack weekend recently, Cryptic announced a number of changes to Duty Officer packs for PC players. For starters, a new Duty Officer Pack Bundle has been added to the C-Store for 1000 Zen. The bundle includes one of each Duty Officer Pack: Fleet, Delta, Gamma and Romulan. The Reinforcement Duty Officer Pack has been retired, though its Tuffli Freighter reward has been moved to the Gamma Pack. Each of the four remaining packs will now include an additional Uncommon officer and an additional Rare officer. The 4x Fleet Ship Modules formerly available as a chance reward from the Delta Pack have been removed, and the odds of a bonus trait reward in that pack have increased. Individually, the four Duty Officer Packs will have a regular C-Store price of 300 Zen. Purchase T1-T4 Ships with Dilithium! Duty officers weren't the only adjustments made by the STO team. Cryptic announced Tuesday that Tier I, II, III, and IV ships will be purchasable for Dilithium. Those lower tier ships currently available to purchase via the ship vendor for dilithium will have prices significantly slashed, while Tier I through IV ships in the Zen store will be offered for Dilithium. For a closer look at the numbers, the current price of a Tier I T’Liss Light Warbird is currently 4,250 dilithium from the ship vendor. The new price? 1000 Dilithium. A Tier I T’Varo light Warbird is on the Z-store for 500 Zen. Converting that at the current rate of 404 Dilithium per zen, that’s 202 THOUSAND Dilithium. After the change drops later this week on PC, the new cost will be 15 THOUSAND Dilithium. But it isn’t ALL good news. At the time of release, which is due out on console April 9th, the Tier I Prototype Light Cruiser Explorer will not be made available for dilithium - that’s the Shenzou for anyone keeping score. Also, any ship purchased via dilithium after the change will not be account unlock - it’s per character only. EVENTS Coming up for the weekend of April 9th through April 13th Star Trek Online will have a Bonus Dilithium Weekend. During that weekend, players will receive bonus 100% extra Dilithium Ore from mining and 50% extra from other content that rewards Dilithium Ore. It’s a great time to stock up on Dilithium for Phoenix boxes or the Zen Exchange. But if you’re looking to exchange Dilithium for Zen, you might want to keep an eye on the exchange rate. It’s usually not at its best return during these events. According to the article, Scopely says that they are committed to bringing people together around the world, particularly now that it’s so important to do so online. Besides Fleet Command, Scopely also develops hits like “Scrabble Go” and “Marvel: Strike Force”.

Illustrator and writer Tomie dePaola appears at the 2011 National Book Festival. Speaker Biography: More than 250 books feature the name Tomie dePaola as the illustrator, writer or both. He has been published for more than 40 years and has sold more than 15 million books worldwide. He was also the United States nominee in 1990 for the Hans Christian Andersen Award in illustration. The American Library Association has honored him with a Caldecott Honor, a Newbery Honor and the 2011 Laura Ingalls Wilder Award for his "substantial and lasting contribution to literature for children."
