We had our first team advance to the Conference Final as the Edmonton Oilers eliminated the Vegas Golden Knights in five games. That's where Jason and Frank started today on a new episode of The DFO Rundown. It's the third Western Conference Final in four years for Connor McDavid and company, and this one seems like the most unexpected of the bunch. The guys broke down the decisive series win and the Oilers' chances going forward before getting to the other series.Out East, the Maple Leafs got steamrolled by the Florida Panthers in Game 5 of their series. It was another pivotal moment in the history of this Leafs core and Frank explained why this loss tells us a lot about Toronto's stars. They then pivoted and talked about the two new coaching hires in the NHL as the Philadelphia Flyers landed their guy in Rick Tocchet and the Vancouver Canucks filled their vacancy and elevated Adam Foote to the Head Coaching position. Gregor asked the question of which new coach is in a better position going forward.Frank also gave an update on some other coaching vacancies and the candidates to fill them.Tyler then popped in with a new edition of Fill in the Blank, where he asked the guys about Frank's Top 50 free agent list, Ken Holland's shopping list in Los Angeles and the other two series going on in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. To wrap, they talked a little bit more about Frank's list and gave their takes on the two elimination games that are going on tonight with the Canes having the Caps on the ropes and the Jets fighting for their lives against the Stars.1:40 - Oilers eliminate the Golden Knights12:10 - Panthers push Leafs to the brink26:25 - Foote takes over in Vancouver & Flyers land Tocchet34:00 - Other coaching vacancies35:40 - Buy or Sell45:40 - Top 50 Free AgentsWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Welcome to Daily Faceoff Live hosted by Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli!Today on the show we start with the two games last night in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and kicking it off is the disappointing loss for the Toronto Maple Leafs. A clear lack of effort has the Leafs down 3-2 to the defending champions. Is this it for Toronto and what does this mean for the franchise? On the flip side, the Edmonton Oilers have eliminated the Vegas Golden Knights with a 1-0 win in Overtime in Game 5. Kasperi Kapanen is the hero for Edmonton as they advance to the Western Conference Finals. We then look to tonights games as both the Winnipeg Jets and Washington Capitals find themselves in desperation mode as they are both down 3-1 in their series. Will they be eliminated tonight or live to force a Game 6?Away from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Frank and Tyler break down the upcoming offseason for the Chicago Blackhawks. What they need to add and what the future of their young stars looks like.Stiar Shah will then join for the All 32 to talk Vancouver Canucks and their new head coach Adam Foote. TSN Hockey Analyst Darren Dreger joins the show to discuss Adam Foote being named the head coach of the Canucks. Dreger shares his thoughts on GM and head coaching candidates from around the league and the Leafs heading into Game 5.
In an update to today's earlier episode, Ray and Dregs update the official announcements of Adam Foote to the Canucks and Rick Tocchet to the Flyers.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The Stars look like a complete team, with deadline pickups Granlund, Ceci (and Rantanen, of course) making big impacts as they took a 3-1 series lead over Winnipeg, who have now lost 9 straight road playoff games. Edmonton will try to close out Vegas on Wednesday. They have a 3 games to 1 advantage after a dominant shutout win on Monday, with Stu Skinner stepping up and the Oilers continuing their trend of peaking in games 4-7 of playoff series. Florida vs. Toronto might look like a coin flip on paper, but Game 5 feels like a must-win for the Leafs. Marner and Matthews need to step up offensively, and Craig Berube might consider a Morgan Rielly return to the PP unit. Ken Holland is set to become GM of the LA Kings, opting to stay involved and in the West. Rick Tocchet is a hot coaching name, Seattle and Boston have interest, but Philly seems the most likely fit. Meanwhile, Vancouver is zeroing in on their next coach, with Manny Malhotra, Adam Foote, and Washington assistant Mitch Love in the mix.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This franchise for whatever reason, has an elite staff. Think about it, if there was moment where NHL team's where forced to use their coaches as players, we'd be golden and steady. Speaking of which, Gonchar and Adam Foote have literally done the most with this Canucks D-Core, which is still so-so surprising. On today's episode we talk about all this + tee up the game in Las Vegas against those Golden Knights. This week I have the pleasure of speaking with Mark Fitzgerald on the podcast. A fellow Bishop's University graduate, Mark is the owner of Elite Training Systems which is now a franchise of four locations. He has also spent time working in the professional sport working with the Toronto Marlies and the Anaheim Ducks in the NHL. Coming from a humble beginning in strength and conditioning where the field was very young and jobs were scarce, Mark was able to create his own opportunities working with Adam Foote and David Branch, creating further opportunities down the road. We had a great discussion about creating a career in strength and conditioning. A lot of young coaches want to rise the ranks of the industry and hit the world of professional sport. Mark goes into great detail about the work that has to go into the early years of building your strength & conditioning career. Developing as a coach, learning more about the science behind training and understanding what your role really means before jumping in with the elite of the elite.Mark also got into details of how to progress in a career in strength and conditioning. How he framed his goal setting strategy and reframing strategy really got me thinking and I hope it got you thinking as well. Keeping yourself on track is as simple as deliberate practice. Set your goals and set reminders to keep yourself moving forwards and ensure that you are accomplishing those goals and progressing in your life & career. When I asked Mark what allows athletes to succeed at the top level it was to not be a passenger of your own success. Be aware in every situation. Show up to training, to seminars, to anything available and TRULY try to learn. If you develop good habits & knowledge and continue to grow as a person and as an athlete right from day one, you will continue to push forward in your career past anyone and everyone that gets in your way.Thank YOU for tuning in to another episode of The Elite Development Podcast! Wait til you hear about our NFL ring ceremony concept...Jonah is back in from his Fresh year of college and contributes in a big way. Maria can best be described as mildly bemused and tolerant as the guys propose the following:1) What would you do if you had the Stanley Cup for a day?2) A total reimagining of the NFL Super Bowl ring ceremony. What if NFL Super Bowl rings were turned over every year like the Stanley Cup? 50 yard line, previous winners line up across from new winners and (Benny Hill theme starts playing) each player has to find another one to wear his ring.Would there be Red Carpet event fan overlap for the Super Bowl if there was a week long leadup with players discussing the rings, their potential outfits for the ceremony and who their potential targets might be?If this sounds to you like it might be a terrible idea, maybe you need to ask yourself this question: “If Elvis Grbac, 1994 Michigan Wolverines starting QB, thinks its a great idea...is it possible that maybe I’m the one missing the point?”*If you are an NFL athlete or know an NFL athlete, please explain to us why or how you think this will be successful and who to contact to make it work.*To date, Elvis Grbac is definitely unaware of this idea and may or may not think it’s a good idea. Please visit us at https://thetragedyacademy.com On social media, you can find us at @thetragedyacademypodcast on Instagram, The Tragedy Academy Podcast on Facebook, and @tragedy_academy on Twitter. Today marks a special day for the Glass and Out Podcast. We’ve arrived at episode 100! We want to send a special thanks to everyone who’s tuned in over the past few years. Here’s to a 100 more! We are certainly in bizarre times around the world. When it comes to hockey, you’d be hard pressed to find a coach who had a stranger season than Kelowna Rockets bench boss Kris Mallette. The Rockets were struggling under head coach Adam Foote with a record of just 24-26-2-2 in late February. With the 2020 Memorial Cup taking place in Kelowna and things not going according to plan, GM Bruce Hamilton decided to shake things up by replacing Foote with Mallette, who had worked as an assistant for five seasons. Mallette was handed the reigns of a struggling Memorial Cup-bound team with only 14 games remaining in the regular season, all while replacing a well-respected former NHL star, whose son also happened to be the captain of the team and a first-round NHL draft pick. Then, just when the Rockets appeared to be responding to the change with a 3-0-1 record in the first four games, the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It truly was a season like no other. In today’s podcast, Mallette discusses his unusual season, climbing the coaching ladder in the Okanagan, and how he is planning to spend his off-season preparing for his first full year as a WHL head coach.
Falko and Crowe sit down with sports editor, Perry Bergson of the Brandon Sun. They talk about the Kelowna Rockets firing coach head coach Adam Foote and going with Kris Mallette. Busy 3 game weekend recap, highlights and post-game reaction from Friday and Saturday. Discussion on the current playoff picture and scenarios leading up to the Memorial Cup. Prospect of the Week, Zach Turner.

Adam Foote confronts the problem of obtaining sea urchins in land-locked Pittsburgh...during a polar vortex. Adam recently graduated with a Master's degree in Biology from Carnegie Mellon University, and he is very grateful to his sea urchin friends for getting him there.
