Today, we will explore the enigmatic world of Amazon Pinpoint. Pinpoint boasts a wide range of capabilities that can prove advantageous for various marketing endeavors. In this intriguing episode, we will shed light on Pinpoint's core features and use cases. Additionally, we will compare it to several other marketing products, including Google Analytics, Marketo, Mailchimp, and more. However, the most startling revelation pertains to the recent changes in Pinpoint's limitations, which have left users deeply concerned. The astonishing reduction from 7,000 events per second to a mere 15 has prompted us to ponder: is AWS attempting to relegate Pinpoint to oblivion? Join us in the eerie tranquility of a snow-covered hotel as we unravel the mysteries surrounding Pinpoint's destiny. Could it be that AWS aims to discontinue Pinpoint altogether? Alternatively, are they endeavoring to revitalize it, akin to a vengeful spirit seeking redemption? Or could there be a nefarious pricing strategy at play? As the ethereal specter of Pinpoint looms large, we implore AWS to provide clarity regarding its intentions. If you are a Pinpoint user or contemplating entering this mysterious realm, tune in and share your thoughts in the comments. Will Pinpoint endure, or is it destined to become a fading memory in the annals of technology?

On The Cloud Pod this week, the team admits to using the podcast as a way to figure out what day it is. Justin also relents and includes Azure news because he couldn't handle any more Oracle mobile apps announcements. A big thanks to this week's sponsors: Foghorn Consulting, which provides full-stack cloud solutions with a focus on strategy, planning and execution for enterprises seeking to take advantage of the transformative capabilities of AWS, Google Cloud and Azure. This week's highlights Social media influencers can breathe a sigh of relief. Amazon is dangling a carrot in front of one of its partners. Azure is throwing a spanner in the works. General News: Not Cool News The FBI arrests a man for his plan to kill “70% of the internet” in an AWS bomb attack. 70% is quite a stretch but we're sure it would have caused a crappy day for a lot of people. Hashicorp has released its Boundary 0.2 release with several new features. We're really excited about this. Announcing HashiCorp Terraform 0.15 General Availability. If you believe it, this is really great news. Amazon Web Services: Good At Compromising AWS announces AQUA is now generally available. Justin should have gotten a prediction point for this one. Amazon Managed Service for Grafana now offers more support. We'll see if Grafana can actually make money out of its partnership with Amazon. Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL now integrates with AWS Lambda. This is really cool! Decrease machine learning costs with instance price reductions and savings plans for Amazon SageMaker. Some pretty significant savings here. Google Cloud Platform: Colossal Google takes a deep dive into its scalable storage solution, Colossus. Nothing new here. Google announces tracking index backfill operation progress in Cloud Spanner. This is super important. The new Google Cloud region in Warsaw is open. Nice to see Eastern Europe getting another region. Azure: Someone Out There Cares User data through Azure Instance Metadata Service is now generally available. It would be great to use this with VMWare. Microsoft announces encryption is now supported at the host level with AKS. Compliance people will be happy with this one. Microsoft announces plans to establish its first datacenter region in Malaysia. Just an announcement — don't get too excited because it's not opening yet. TCP Lightning Round Jonathan takes the cake and this week's point, leaving scores at Justin (6), Ryan (3), Jonathan (6). In this session, we demonstrate how to easily deploy an AWS solution that ingests all Tweets from any Twitter handle, uses Amazon Comprehend to generate a sentiment score, and then automatically engages customers with a personalized message. The intended audience includes developers and marketers who want to leverage AWS to create powerful user engagement scenarios. We highlight how quickly a machine-learning marketing solution can be deployed. We cover the AWS services Amazon Pinpoint, a digital user engagement service, and Amazon Comprehend, a natural language processing service that uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to find insights and relationships in text.
At Hulu, notifying our viewers when their favorite teams are playing helps us drive growth and improve viewer engagement. However, building this feature was a complex process. Managing our live TV metadata, while generating audiences in real time in high-scalability scenarios, posed unique challenges for the engineering team. In this session, we discuss the challenges in building our real-time notification platform, how Amazon Pinpoint helped us with our goals, and how we architected the solution for global scale and deliverability.

JavaScript based applications across mobile and web can be challenging to integrate with AWS services for teams that aren't familiar with infrastructure operations. AWS Mobile has just launched a comprehensive open-source library, AWS Amplify, and tooling to help frontend and mobile developer quickly add features to their applications using a declarative programming style organized by categories of Authentication, Storage, APIs and Analytics. You'll see how Serverless infrastructure for mobile and web applications can not only be launched in a couple of commands, but you can use the new tooling to iteratively add features and code to applications that under the covers interface with Amazon Cognito, Amazon S3, Amazon API Gateway, AWS Lambda, Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon Pinpoint. You'll also see some framework specific techniques such as leveraging Higher Order Components (HOCs) in a React or React Native application as well as other best practices and utilities that AWS Mobile has released.
Driving customer engagement is critical to the success of mobile and web applications. The three main components of customer engagement are customer analytics, demographic segmentation, and multi-channel messaging. This session provides a deep dive into how Amazon Pinpoint drives customer engagement. Learn about Amazon Pinpoint's integrated campaign management is used by developers and marketers to optimize messaging and communications with customers across channels, including mobile push notifications, SMS, and email.
Amazon Music is a popular music streaming service that uses Amazon Pinpoint to help drive growth of the service through effective engagement with its user base. In this session, learn the ins and outs of how the Amazon Music team uses the Amazon Pinpoint service to drive user growth and retention to achieve the desired business outcomes, achieve KPIs, and use app and user analytics for insight for further improvement projects.
With customers demanding relevant and real-time experiences across a range of devices, digital businesses are looking to gather user data at scale, understand this data, and respond to customer needs instantly. This requires tools that can record large volumes of user data in a structured fashion, and then instantly make this data available to generate insights. In this session, we demonstrate how you can use Amazon Pinpoint to capture user data in a structured yet flexible manner. Further, we demonstrate how this data can be set up for instant consumption using services like Amazon Kinesis Firehose and Amazon Redshift. We walk through example data based on real world scenarios, to illustrate how Amazon Pinpoint lets you easily organize millions of events, record them in real-time, and store them for further analysis.
Mobile app development toolchains leveraging JavaScript, such as Ionic and React Native, are growing in popularity more each day. The pace of business makes it difficult to hire multiple engineers for different platforms and duplicate efforts. In this session you'll see hands on how you can build beautiful user applications using Ionic and React Native without spending months learning how your backend architecture should be designed. Using the newly released AWS Mobile CLI and build tooling you'll understand how your mobile developers can with a set of simple commands interface with Serverless AWS infrastructure and add in features such as User Sign-In and Sign-Up with Amazon Cognito, Serverless infrastructures using Amazon API Gateway, AWS Lambda and Amazon DynamoDB, and comprehensive analytics through Amazon Pinpoint.
App developers spend incredible time, resources, and effort to grow their app audiences, but once you've acquired a user, it's easier and cheaper to retain and engage them via messaging and notifications. In this podcast we introduce AWS Pinpoint for engaging with your users and getting app and user analytics to drive your business. Amazon Pinpoint: https://aws.amazon.com/pinpoint/
