Welcome to the Today is the Day Changemakers Podcast, episode 22, 'The Power of Music' with Jason Spiewak, Founder & CEO of JLS Artist Management & Noble Steed Music. JLS Artist Management: a full-service entertainment management company, built to represent a music-centric client base that is active worldwide. Noble Steed Music: a record label with distribution through DashGo, as well as an artist services company offering world-class service to independent artists. In this episode Jason shares how he connected to music early on in his life. He started with piano lessons when he was just 11 years old. Jason says, "music has given him everything". He also plays the drums. Jason moved forward and took the stage and the road playing in a band. After 5 years of playing in the band, he then moved on to be an assistant at a record label. You will hear more about this part of his journey. During this time he was then mentored by several who really helped him launch his career. Jason learned the music business on the independent side of the record company world, with early work experience at Artemis Records, Studio E Records and TVT Records. He was co-founded the Warner Music distributed-label Rock Ridge Music in 2004, later to be named that company's President. Under Jason's leadership, the label enjoyed the success of high-charting releases by Sister Hazel, Rachel Platten, Five.Bolt.Main, and a #1 jazz record by former baseball great Bernie Williams to name a few.He currently manages artists including: Constantine Maroulis, Toby Lightman, and many more that you can view on www.noblesteedmusic.com. The passing of Jason's Dad made him really look at things a bit differently. Jason says, "if there is something that has arisen in you, don't let that be fleeting. Act on the impulse. Too many of us get the signal, ignore it, and than the flare is gone". Jason shares that he is just Dad with his kids, but that the gold records he has are somewhat cool to them. Additionally, Jason donates his time to the Music Is Love Exchange, a charitable organization that leads groups of musicians and fans to Guatemala annually for week-long service trips. Listen in to hear how Jason became a Grammy voting member and his answer for the question, if you knew then what you know now, what would that be?Please subscribe on the Today is the Day Changemakers YouTube Channel and stream on all popular sites. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed having this conversation. Next week I welcome Sloane, Core Belief Consultant. Sloane has a lot to share with our listening audience. Last Goodbye On this episode we talk to Dave Lory. Dave Lory has worked in entertainment for over 35 years. Starting as a drummer and tour-manager, he rose to becoming a respected artist manager, record executive, and event producer working in rock, country and rap. Apart from Jeff Buckley, Lory helped guide the careers of the Allman Brothers, Courtney Love, and Duncan Sheik. As an executive at Mercury and Artemis Records he worked with Bon Jovi, KISS, Shania Twain, Def Jam, and Warren Zevon. His event productions include the New Music Seminar and the Songwriters Hall of Fame Awards. He was a founding member of the Music Managers' Forum and has lectured in music business at William Patterson University and New York University. For the first time since Jeff Buckley's untimely death on May 29, 1997, his manager Dave Lory reveals what it was like to work with one of rock's most celebrated and influential artists. Go on the road and behind the scenes with Jeff, from the release of his debut EP Live at Sin-é to the second album Buckley never completed. This is an extremely intimate interview and we hope you enjoy Please support the Mark and Me Podcast here https://www.patreon.com/Markandme The book Jeff Buckley: From Hallelujah to the Last Goodbye is out now
Steve Cooper talks with singer/songwriter Jeffrey Gaines. Jeffrey's self-titled 1992 debut drew critical praise from far and wide, and put him on the musical map as an introspective folk-rock artist. The hookier, more rock-oriented Somewhat Slightly Dazed followed in 1994 and marked the end of his tenure with Chrysalis. In 1998 he returned with Galore, this time via the Rykodisc label. Always Be, released in 2001, contained a stripped-down cover of Peter Gabriel's 1986 hit In Your Eyes, a longtime staple of his concerts and a song he'd become associated with by many fans. Later that same year he was invited by producer Nile Rodgers to sing on the album We Are Family, which benefited victims of the 9/11 attacks in New York. Still riding some of the success of the In Your Eyes single, He paired up with producer Mitchell Froom to record 2003's Toward the Sun, his second release for Artemis Records. Throughout the next decade, he focused largely on touring both in the U.S. and Europe, releasing the acoustic Jeffrey Gaines Live in 2004 followed in 2012 by Live in Europe, which was captured during a tour supporting Joe Jackson. In 2018, 15 years after his last studio effort, he returned with his sixth album, Alright.
