A ghost ship, also known as a phantom ship, is a vessel with no living crew aboard; it may be a fictional ghostly vessel, such as the Flying Dutchman, or a physical derelict found adrift with its crew missing or dead, like the Mary Celeste. The term is sometimes used for ships that have been decommissioned but not yet scrapped, as well as drifting boats that have been found after breaking loose of their ropes and being carried away by the wind or the waves.More recently, ships which travel with their mandated Automatic identification system turned off to avoid detection and monitoring, have also been referred to as ghost ships.Support the pod:www.patreon.com/monsterfuzz Check out our merch:https://monster-fuzz.creator-spring.com Everything else!www.linktr.ee/monsterfuzzBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/monster-fuzz--4349429/support.
Tonight, I tell you the sleepy stories of four different ghost ships, together with their historical context and what happened to them. Two are fictional: the Flying Dutchman, a flute from the Age of Sails that would have traded between Amsterdam and the Spice Islands, and the Caleuche, a legendary ship on the island of Chiloe, Chile. Two are real: the Mary Celeste that mysteriously lost her crew in the Atlantic Ocean, and the Baychimo, which was abandoned but unexpectedly kept wandering for decades in the waters north of Canada and Alaska. Send us a Text Message. We are headed to the United States' largest state by area, Alaska, known as the Last Frontier State. This might go down in history as Kenzie's favorite episode because she gets to talk about otters the WHOLE time. She shares with us the legend of the Kushtaka, a giant otter-man that comes from Tlingit folklore. Legend says the Kushtaka will trick you into following them deep into the Alaskan wilderness, only to never be seen or heard from again. Then, Lauren redeems herself and concludes the story of the Devil's Chair. Afterwards, she tells us about the SS Baychimo, a steel-hulled, 1,322 ton cargo steamer built in 1914 in Sweden and owned by the Hudson's Bay Company. She became a notable ghost ship along the Alaskan coast, being abandoned in 1931 and seen numerous times since then until her last sighting in 1969. This episode will make you think twice about exploring Alaska's vast wilderness, especially alone.--Follow us on Social Media and find out how to support A Scary State by clicking on our Link Tree: https://instabio.cc/4050223uxWQAl--Have a scary tale or listener story of your own? The episode where Lindsey brings us the story of Alaska's very own ghost ship, the Baychimo. She's not a pretty thing but she is a sturdy girl, strange but disappointing. Same, girl, same. You get Boydston's breathy accent, Lindsey being bookish and cultured, and Sarah being dirty, as per usual. Nevertheless, this boat surpassed everyone's expectations when they thought she'd sink into Alaska's waters…but instead she floated around for over 30 years, abandoned. Where is she now? TBD, but we're gonna guess it has something to do with aliens. www.thetipsyghost.com Find us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok @thetipsyghost Email us your stories at thetipsyghost@gmail.com Show your support when you subscribe, leave a great review, & give us a 5 start rating— it really helps!

Ships wandering the Arctic?! This week is the most epic game of hide & seek ever! "Day of Chaos" by Kevin MacLeod
A strange request we get often to do subjects on are haunted transportation objects. Haunted cars, trains, and yes...even ships. How can a vehicle be haunted? Digging into some research, come to find out ghost ships are a reported phenomena. Not only are there reports, but the term ghost ship can be used as something very real...and very scary. Imagine you're out on the water doing some fishing. When all of a sudden a ship that looks like it's in distress wading toward you. You prep to get closer, and you see...everyone on the ship is gone. No living thing on the ship. What happened? Well we look at a few stories this episode curtesy of Dock Life ( https://www.dockwalk.com/news/spooky-ghost-ship-stories?fbclid=IwAR17uhgQm72vc-7AZGayZDQ8OhFmPMgrKLOoJIrTPmBUABCmquUVjoKQMRE ) . Including The Flying Dutchman, Baychimo, Octavius, and the scariest one of them all...Mary Celeste.
It's an Arctic Ghost Ship Double-Header! First up is the HMS Terror, which carried Sir John Franklin's 1845 expedition all the way to King William Island in the very far north of Nunavut, Canada, before freezing into the pack ice and being abandoned; and in the second half, we've got the SS Baychimo, a cargo freighter lost in pack ice off the coast of Alaska in 1931. Although they were abandoned at either end of the Arctic and nearly a century apart, both the Terror and the Beychimo were repeatedly spotted - and in some cases, boarded - by locals multiple times before disappearing again. On this episode, we're talking about how interesting the Arctic Ocean is, why so many people died looking for the Northwest Passage, pack ice fun facts, and whether kraken have bathtub toys. Put on your winter gear, pop those drinks in a cooler, and get your icebreakers ready - it's going to be a chilly one.
--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tu-dien-lich-su/message

"Tracing one warm line, Through a land so wild and savage, And make a Northwest Passage to the sea..." Maritime lore abounds with stories of ghost ships, those ships that sail the world’s oceans manned by a ghostly crew and destined never to make port. Only the bravest of souls attempted passage through the Arctic and the North-western waters. -LIKE-SHARE-COMMENT-TAG-REVIEW- Every month we'll choose one person from the seedy world of social media notifications and send them some free stuff...
