Wir beginnen mal wieder eine Reihe zu Legends-Büchern. Nach der Thrawn-Trilogie und der Hand von Thrawn-Trilogie, gehen wir mal weg von blauen Wesen. Stattdessen geht es um Darth Bane, den sogenannten Schöpfer der Dunkelheit und Begründer der Regel der Zwei. Anlässlich der Neuveröffentlichung der Trilogie durch Blanvalet in diesem Jahr wird es auch Zeit, im JediCast mal über diese bekannten Werke zu sprechen. Und Ines, Matthias und Tobias wurden keinesfalls enttäuscht. Langweilig oder gar beiläufig ist an diesem Werk nichts. Im Podcast geht es um die Rolle der Bruderschaft der Dunkelheit als Zuschauer ihres eigenen Untergangs. Es geht um die Frage, wie grandios es der Roman schafft, die Dunkle Seite darzustellen und ihre Benutzung mit mehr als reinem Hass zu verbinden. Zuletzt geht es um nichts weniger als einen anderen Blick auf all die anderen Sith-Lords, die wir jahrelang in Romanen, Serien und Filmen gesehen haben. September 2006 auf Englisch bei Del Rey. Im Jahr 2021 folgte eine Neuveröffentlichung im Zuge der Essential Legends Collection. Am 22. April 2026 wurde das Werk auch in Deutschland mit neuem Cover neu veröffentlicht. Zudem erschien am 20. April 2026 erstmals eine deutschsprachige Hörbuchversion, gelesen von Richard Barenberg. Die Rezensionen Maximilian hat die Taschenbuchausgabe aus dem Jahr 2014 rezensiert und dabei vor allem die Einsteigerfreundlichkeit des Werks gelobt. Er resümierte: "Es gibt eine Reise durch die Galaxis, in einem gewissen Grad wird die Vorgeschichte zu Episode I erklärt und es wird kaum bis gar kein Vorwissen benötigt, um die Handlung zu verstehen." Tobias hat sich das Werk im Zuge der Neuauflage von Blanvalet genauer angeschaut und sich oftmals etwas überwältigt gefühlt von all der Handlung, die dort in kürzester Zeit erzählt wird. Trotzdem oder gerade deswegen hatte er Spaß mit dem Werk und schreibt: "Alle Fans der Alten Republik, von Videospielen wie eben KOTOR oder SWTOR oder schlicht Geschichten rund um die Sith und deren Ab- und Aufstieg, machen mit diesem Buch in keinem Fall etwas falsch. Nach über sechs Jahren ist dieser Satz wieder möglich: Ein neuer Star Wars-Film ist in den Kinos. Wo wir kurz nach der Disney-Übernahme kaum ein Jahr Ruhe hatten, war es seit 2019 und dem Finale der Skywalker-Saga ruhig im Kinosaal geworden. Genügend Filme wurden zwar angekündigt, aber kaum welche davon umgesetzt. Umso erstaunlicher, dass der Schnellschuss The Mandalorian and Grogu nach nur zwei Jahren bereits über die Leinwände läuft. Die neueste Animationsserie auf Disney Plus ist rum und wir reden im JediCast natürlich auch über die neue Serie Maul: Shadow Lord. Der Schattenlord ist zurück auf einer Welt in bester Blade-Runner-Optik und baut neben seinem Syndikat auch gleich noch eine neue Schülerin auf. Wir feiern Geburtstag und das gleich dreifach. Am 4. Mai 2011 gings los mit der Jedi-Bibliothek. Damals noch auf Facebook, bevor wenige Jahre später der Blog startete. Ende April 2018 startete der JediCast und ist jetzt bereits seit acht Jahren auf Sendung. Und, um das Triple perfekt zu machen, gründeten wir am 4. Mai 2024 unseren Jedi-Bibliothek e.V., der unser Projekt langfristig organisieren und stabilisieren soll. Also, einiges ist in den letzten Jahren passiert, und genau darauf blicken wir heute zurück. Die Serie Maul: Shadow Lord ist gerade frisch gestartet und das nehmen wir als Anlass, um über den Comicband Darth Maul: Schwarz, Weiß und Rot zu sprechen. Das Konzept ist simpel: drei Farben und sonst nichts. Alles im Comic ist entweder in Schwarz, Weiß oder eben in Schattierungen von Rot koloriert. Dazu gibt es das übliche Potpourri von Darth-Maul-Action: Schnetzeln, Vierteilen und Aufspießen inklusive. Alles unter dem Dach eher horrorartiger Geschichten. Dass dieser Horror-Faktor über die vier Geschichten abnimmt und eher dem schwarzen Humor weicht, ist nur eines der Themen, das Lukas, Matthias und Tobias in dieser Folge besprechen. Es geht zudem um Sidious' Fetisch für Bodycams, Sympathie mit Maul bei Ruhestörungen und die Bewunderung, welche künstlerische Vielfalt in solch einem Heft zu finden ist. Darin lobte er am Ende die Reihe und resümierte: "Die Entscheidung, pro Heft eine ganze Geschichte zu erzählen, ging gnadenlos gut auf, und die Kreativteams haben zumeist das Maximum aus den Vorgaben herausgeholt. Die Abwechslung gelingt durch verschiedene Themenschwerpunkte und natürlich die variierenden Zeichnungen." Tobias hat die deutsche Hardcover-Deluxe-Edition von Panini rezensiert und schließt sich größtenteils an. Sein Lob gilt neben der wertigen Aufmachung und der guten Qualität der deutschsprachigen Ausgabe ebenfalls der Abwechslung und dem künstlerischen Anspruch des Hefts: "Vielleicht hätte es etwas mehr inhaltliche Varianz – und nicht nur Maul-Geschnetzeltes – gebraucht, um wirklich herausragend zu werden, aber das ist Meckern auf hohem Niveau. Alle Fans, die mit der anstehenden Maul-Serie wieder mehr über diese Figur lesen wollen oder einfach so ein langjähriger Fan sind, machen mit diesem Band im Regal nichts falsch." Das b.note aus Frankreich gibt es mit 20, 40, 64 und 80 Braillemodulen. Es ist Braillezeile und Notizgerät in einem und geht an einigen Stellen deutlich weiter als viele andere Geräte dieser Klasse. Aleksander zeigt in diesem Gastbeitrag am Beispiel der 20er-Version, wie das b.note aufgebaut ist, wie es sich als Braillezeile am Computer schlägt und was im eigenständigen Betrieb alles möglich ist. Wir erleben den Datei-Explorer, Editor, Audioplayer und Internetradio und auch eine Besonderheit, die man so woanders nicht findet: das Lesen und Schreiben von Musiknoten in Brailleschrift samt Austausch über MusicXML. Auch Mathematikfunktionen, Bedienlogik, technische Daten und die Praxis im Alltag kommen zur Sprache. Der Beitrag macht deutlich, wo das b.note überzeugt, wo es Eigenheiten gibt und für wen dieses Gerät besonders interessant sein könnte.

Wir sprechen mal wieder über einen Roman, der sogar schon auf Deutsch verfügbar ist. In The Acolyte: Die Suchende geht Vernestra auf die Suche, und zwar - wie Ines sagen würde - wie ein Jedi an einem typischen Dienstag. Die Handlung ist also nicht der überzeugende Punkt. Aber kann die Charakterisierung der Figuren oder die The High Republic-Nostalgie den Roman tragen? Genau darüber sprechen wir in dieser Ausgabe. Ines und Tobias analysieren die zwei verschiedenen Erzählperspektiven des Romans und ob es dafür eine gute Erklärung gibt. Zudem geht es um zu oberflächliche Machtvisionen, verwirrende Enden, Alkohol-Abusus und die wohl umständlichste Erklärung für mirialianische Tattoos. Sie fragen sich, was mit Imris Weisheit alles möglich gewesen wäre und warum der MacGuffin trotz Verankerung in der Hohen Republik nicht so wirklich funktionieren will. In ihren Augen schafft es Justina Ireland die Hohe Republik-Nostalgie zu bedienen. Zudem machte ihr die Dynamik zwischen einer eher jungen Indara und der alten Vern Spaß. Abstriche gab es jedoch bei der eigentlichen Haupthandlung rund um den Nullifier, obwohl dieser ebenfalls ein Überbleibsel aus der Hohen Republik war. Daher vergibt sie drei von fünf Holocrons. Wir kehren zurück in die Sequel-Ära und erfahren mehr über die Ausbildung von Finn und Jannah bei der Ersten Ordnung. In Die letzte Ordnung (The Last Order) von Kwame Mbalia verfolgen wir die beiden in ihren Übergangsjahren von Ausbildung zu vollwertigen Soldaten respektive zu zweifelnden Mitgliedern der Ersten Ordnung. Dabei geht es um Spezial-Geheim-Aufträge, verworrene Container-Jagden und die Frage, wieso die Erste Ordnung eben nicht so gut in Buchform funktioniert wie das besser etablierte Imperium. Genügend Punkte also, dass sich Ines und Tobias eingehend mit dem Werk beschäftigen mussten. Wieso leidet Finn schon vor seiner Zeit in Episode VII etwas zu sehr am Main-Character-Syndrom? Welche Beziehung hatte er zu 55 und was ist die Rolle des Major Gohl eigentlich? Gleichzeitig spannt sich um den Roman eine Rahmenhandlung, die sich bestenfalls gestreckt, schlimmstenfalls einfach zu idealisiert liest. Enemies to Lovers wäre wohl die beste Beschreibung. Ihm hat das Werk in großen Teilen besser gefallen als uns. Vor allem habe es dazu geführt, dass der Dunkle Lord endlich wieder gruselig wurde. Für ihn verknüpfte der Roman die "charakterliche Komplexität von Andor mit der Machtmystik und beklemmenden Spannung des The Acolyte-Finales". Für ihn bewies der Roman, dass "man auch 2025 noch gute, neue Erzählungen mit dem Dunklen Lord der Sith schreiben kann".
