Full Text of Readings Wednesday of the Sixth Week of Easter Lectionary: 293 The Saint of the day is Our Lady of Fatima The Story of Our Lady of Fatima Between May 13 and October 13, 1917, three Portuguese children–Francisco and Jacinta Marto and their cousin Lucia dos Santos–received apparitions of Our Lady at Cova da Iria near Fatima, a city 110 miles north of Lisbon. Mary asked the children to pray the rosary for world peace, for the end of World War I, for sinners, and for the conversion of Russia. Mary gave the children three secrets. Following the deaths of Francisco and Jacinta in 1919 and 1920 respectively, Lucia revealed the first secret in 1927. It concerned devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The second secret was a vision of hell. When Lucia grew up she became a Carmelite nun and died in 2005 at the age of 97. Pope John Paul II directed the Holy See's Secretary of State to reveal the third secret in 2000; it spoke of a “bishop in white” who was shot by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows into him. Many people linked this vision to the assassination attempt against Pope John Paul II in St. Peter's Square on May 13, 1981. The feast of Our Lady of Fatima was approved by the local bishop in 1930; it was added to the Church's worldwide calendar in 2002. Reflection The message of Fatima is simple: Pray. Unfortunately, some people—not Sister Lucia—have distorted these revelations, making them into an apocalyptic event for which they are now the only reliable interpreters. They have, for example, claimed that Mary's request that the world be consecrated to her has been ignored. Sister Lucia agreed that Pope John Paul II's public consecration in St. Peter's Square on March 25, 1984, fulfilled Mary's request. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith prepared a June 26, 2000, document explaining the “third secret.” Mary is perfectly honored when people generously imitate her response “Let it be done to me as you say” (Luke 1:38). Mary can never be seen as a rival to Jesus or to the Church's teaching authority, as exercised by the college of bishops united with the bishop of Rome.Saint of the Day, Copyright Franciscan Media

Daniela Arbex é uma jornalista renomada por seus trabalhos cobrindo grandes tragédias da história brasileira, como o caso do Hospital Psiquiátrico de Barbacena, os incêndios da Boate Kiss e do Ninho do Urubu e o rompimento da barragem de Brumadinho. Em entrevista exclusiva para o Oxigênio, Arbex conta sobre seu processo de escrita, dos cuidados que tem ao tratar de temas tão sensíveis e de como podemos desenvolver outros olhares para produções jornalísticas. _____________________________________________________________________ ROTEIRO DANIELA: Eu acho que é sempre um chamamento para mim, tem que ser assim, porque é muito difícil você ficar tanto tempo dedicado a temas tão densos, se aquilo não fizer sentido para você ou você não tiver um comprometimento com aquela história. Então eu acho que para mim, inicialmente, o mais importante é que o que eu vá fazer, tenha relevância social e pública, isso é fundamental, porque existem grandes histórias, mas eu acho que esse caráter, esse viés da da de uma prestação de serviço é importante, e eu acho que os temas eles acabam nascendo para mim. MAYRA: Já imaginou como é escrever sobre temas como um holocausto num hospital psiquíatrico, o deslizamento de uma barragem de minério ou um incêndio que deixou centenas de pessoas mortas? A gente entrevistou a Daniela Arbex, autora de Holocausto Brasileiro, Arrastados e Todo dia a mesma noite, e ela contou um pouco sobre seu processo de escrita, falou do comprometimento necessário pra cobrir tragédias nacionais e das diferenças que sente entre a literatura e o jornalismo cotidiano.  DANIELA: Mas eu vivi uma um tempo de ouro do jornalismo nesse sentido, em que a gente acreditava que o que a gente fazia ia mudar as coisas e que realmente a gente conseguia efetivamente mudar. Então eu tenho matérias no jornal das quais eu me orgulho muito. E é claro que o livro ele te dá uma visibilidade maior, um tempo maior que você consiga se aprofundar naquele tema, a ponto daquele livro virar uma referência para uma determinada área do conhecimento. Mas eu também fazia isso no jornalismo.  MAYRA: Eu sou a Mayra Trinca, bióloga e comunicadora de ciência e você já deve me conhecer aqui do Oxigênio.  [VINHETA]  MAYRA: Vamos do começo…  DANIELA: Então, eu sou Daniela Arbex, jornalista, escritora e documentarista. Eu trabalhei 23 anos no jornal diário no interior de Minas Gerais, chamado Tribuna de Minas e atualmente eu trabalho com a literatura. MAYRA: Você provavelmente já ouviu falar na Daniela. Talvez já tenha lido alguma obra dela  MAYRA: Se não leu, eu recomendo!  MAYRA: A Daniela tem hoje seis livros publicados, o primeiro, Holocausto Brasileiro, foi e ainda é um grande sucesso de vendas no Brasil. Ele conta a história do Hospital Colônia de Barbacena, onde aconteceram mais de 60 mil mortes entre 1930 e 1980. A maioria dos livros tratam de episódios dolorosos da história brasileira, como o incêndio na Boate Kiss, em 2013 em Santa Maria, no Rio Grande do Sul, que deixou 242 pessoas mortas e mais de 600 feridas. Ou o rompimento da barragem de Brumadinho, em Minas Gerais, em 2019, que levou 272 pessoas, além de deixar outras centenas desabrigadas e causar um impacto imensurável no Córrego do Feijão. Já sua obra mais recente conta sobre o incêndio que matou 10 meninos no alojamento do Flamengo, no Rio, também em 2019. E isso não é coincidência.  DANIELA: Eu falo que a literatura me ajudou a descobrir um dos papéis mais importantes do jornalismo que é a construção da memória coletiva do Brasil. MAYRA: Essa memória coletiva é um eterno lembrete. Eventos assim precisam ser constantemente lembrados e relembrados para tentarmos evitar que eles se repitam. Mas, como você bem pode imaginar, escrever sobre temas assim não é nenhuma tarefa fácil, envolve muito tempo se debruçando sobre dados, falando com pessoas que foram vítimas ou perderam entes queridos nas tragédias. Sem falar no peso da responsabilidade de retratar essas histórias.  DANIELA: Eu falo muito uma frase que virou um pouco de chavão, mas é muito real, que nem sempre a jornalista que escolhe as histórias que ele vai contar. Eu me sinto escolhida pelas histórias, porque são temas que me atravessaram e que se apresentaram para mim. Por isso que eu falo que um livro, ele tem que nascer para você. MAYRA: Pra escrever sobre temas tão densos, a gente precisa encontrar uma conexão com a história. Às vezes, a gente escolhe uma pauta, às vezes, ela se impõe de alguma maneira. De qualquer forma, pra Daniela, é função do jornalista mostrar a relevância daquele assunto.  DANIELA: Eu sempre defendi as histórias que eu queria contar, sempre. Seja no jornal, seja na na literatura. Por exemplo, falar de população carcerária, nossa, era quase um assunto tabu no jornal Não, por quê? Porque o nosso leitor é um leitor de classe média que não queria nem saber o que estava acontecendo dentro das cadeias brasileiras, entendeu? Então, assim, ah não não rende, não vende, mas é necessário.  MAYRA: A gente não tá querendo dizer aqui que isso é fácil. Ainda mais no dia a dia do jornal, que pode ter um ritmo de trabalho bem corrido.  DANIELA: Porque você tem um ritmo industrial ali para cumprir. E o jornal tem que tá na banca no dia seguinte, não tem essa: “Ah, esse tema não mexe tanto comigo quanto, né?”  MAYRA: Mas também é importante lembrar que a gente tem brechas. E aprender a usar essas brechas.  DANIELA: Então eu fazia, mas eu entendi muito cedo que se eu apresentasse as pautas que eu gostaria de cobrir, eu teria mais chance de estar fazendo coberturas que me interessassem mais e que eu achasse mais relevante. E aí eu comecei então a apresentar temas e apresentar pautas e aí não dá não dá tempo para os meus editores me pautarem. Porque eu já chegava com a pauta, com a ideia pronta e assim, e não não podia ser só uma ideia. Tinha que ser uma ideia com uma produção já feita, que se sustentasse, porque tinha que dali tinha que sair uma manchete do jornal. Então eu fazia o dever de casa. MAYRA: Claro que as realidades de cada jornal é muito diferente, mas a Daniela disse que sempre teve muita sorte na profissão.  DANIELA: Eu vou te dizer que eu tive a felicidade e eu sei que isso é muito raro de fazer muito mais coisas que eu gostaria do que de fazer alguma coisa que eu não gostasse ou que que não tivesse é dentro da minha zona de interesse, entendeu?  MAYRA: Na conversa que a gente teve, deu pra perceber que ela tem muito orgulho dos anos que passou trabalhando na Tribuna de Minas, com o jornalismo diário.  DANIELA: Eu trabalhava em pautas locais que eu acabava pela repercussão que essas matérias tinham, elas acabavam tendo repercussão nacional. A gente conseguiu fazer isso várias vezes, vezes em que nós tivemos matérias que levaram advogados para cadeia e que nós tivemos matéria em que a gente tirou pessoas inocentes da cadeia e que tiveram repercussão nacional. MAYRA: E boa parte disso tem a ver com o olhar que a Daniela sempre teve pras histórias que tava contando. Assim como ela disse lá no começo, pra ela, a realização no trabalho sempre teve muito a ver com esse olhar mais cuidadoso com as histórias e, principalmente, com as pessoas envolvidas. Eu perguntei pra ela se, mesmo no ritmo meio caótico do jornalismo, era possível ter esse cuidado e dedicação com as pautas que ela consegue ter hoje com os livros.  DANIELA: Dá para ter outro olhar mesmo no jornalismo diário. Eu falo muito sobre isso assim, que foi um casamento perfeito. Eu fui muito feliz no jornalismo diário, amava fazer o que eu fazia e eu não tinha muito tempo para pensar ou lamentar a falta de condição, a falta de espaço. Eu criava o espaço. Então assim, não foram muitas vezes, mas nós tivemos, por exemplo, matérias, séries que começaram com uma matéria de cinco páginas de jornal, que foi meu primeiro prêmio MS. A série Dossiê Santa Casa, a primeira matéria, nunca vamos esquecer, fevereiro de 2000, a gente ocupou cinco páginas do jornal, 10 horas da manhã, já não tinha mais nenhum jornal na banca, nenhum jornal na banca. É, eles já tinham se esgotado e foi assim um fenômeno. Então assim, claro, eu tive Quanto tempo eu tive para fazer? Eu tive três meses para fazer essa série, essa matéria, que começou com uma matéria e depois virou uma série de 50 matérias, né? É, mas dá para fazer. Dá para você virar também uma referência com esse tipo de trabalho. A gente conseguiu coisas incríveis com essa série. A gente conseguiu fazer um hospital, uma filantrópica que era muito importante para o sistema único de saúde não fechar, porque ela tava em vias de fechamento. MAYRA: E, apesar de hoje ela estar dedicada à literatura, inclusive com livro novo vindo aí, a Daniela disse que o tempo que passou trabalhando com o jornalismo diário foi fundamental pra aprender a contar essas histórias com outros olhares.  DANIELA: Então o que você tem que que pensar é como eu vou contar essa história e através de quem eu vou contar essa história. [sobe trilha] DANIELA: Eu acho que o que eu procuro, ao contar essas histórias, é sempre buscar e preservar a humanidade dos sujeitos, sempre. MAYRA: Antes da nossa entrevista, eu assisti uma palestra que a Daniela apresentou pros alunos aqui do Labjor. E o que mais me chamou atenção das falas dela foi justamente a atenção que ela procura dar pras vítimas da história que ela tá contando. Os livros dela tem um pouco esse diferencial, um protagonismo pras pessoas que a gente não vê em qualquer lugar. Lembra que ela disse que as histórias meio que surgem pra ela? Esse surgir não é uma coisa meio mágica, de que de repente vem uma ideia genial. Tem a ver justamente de um olhar atento pras histórias que tão ali meio despercebidas. Ela deu o exemplo do livro Cova 312 e como a pauta apareceu pra ela através de uma matéria falando sobre a abertura de requerimentos de vítimas da ditadura diante do Governo de Minas.  DANIELA: Por conta dessa matéria de jornal me interessei em contar as histórias de pessoas que foram torturadas no período e ao mergulhar nessas histórias, eu acabei entrando no coração de Linhares, que é a maior penitenciária, é uma das maiores penitenciárias políticas de Minas e descobrir que esse militante morreu lá dentro, foi o militante que integrou a primeira guerrilha contra a ditadura, que foi a guerrilha do Caparaó, mas o corpo dele tinha desaparecido. MAYRA: Ou a história do Arrastados, em que ela recebeu nas redes sociais um pedido de ajuda, da família de uma menina que estava desparecida depois do rompimento da barragem  DANIELA: E eu fiquei muito mexida quando eu vi a foto da Isabela, que era de uma menina muito jovem vestida de noiva. E eu falei: “Nossa, se um dia eu contar essa história, a primeira família que eu vou procurar vai ser a família da Isabela” MAYRA: Esse é o diferencial do modo de contar da Daniela. Ela não começa pelo acontecimento, pelo aspecto mais amplo. Mas pelas pessoas.  DANIELA: Então, todo mundo tem uma história para contar, de que maneira aquela pessoa que foi, que passou por uma tragédia, ela foi afetada por aquilo, mas quem é essa pessoa? Ela nasce no momento da tragédia, o nosso grande crime, entre aspas, tá, gente? Só pra gente entender. O nosso grande pecado enquanto jornalistas é reduzir aquela pessoa ao momento da tragédia. E ela é muito mais do que aquele momento. Ela já existia antes, ela tinha uma história, ela tinha sonhos. Então, quando você consegue enxergar esse sujeito e todas as complexidades da vida dele, eu acho que você consegue prestar um serviço de relevância e dar protagonismo para essas pessoas. Para mim eu quero gastar e usar meu tempo dando protagonismo para a vítima, que é tão silenciada, que já vive um apagamento social, que vive uma saga infinita para conseguir uma coisa que a gente ainda não conseguiu no Brasil, que é responsabilizar os autores de crimes.  MAYRA: Nesse ponto a gente consegue entender bem a ideia de memória coletiva que a Daniela citou lá no começo. Ao aprofundar nas pautas por uma perspectiva mais humanizadora, a gente consegue criar vínculos mais fortes com essas histórias e isso ajuda a mantê-las vivas. Essa forma de retratar as pessoas também é muito importante quando a gente fala de grupos vulnerabilizados. DANIELA: Ninguém quer falar de adolescente em conflito com a lei, né? Ainda mais uma sociedade que é super menorista, né? Que vem, que tem um ranço do código de menores e tal. E eu me lembro que a gente fez uma matéria, porque eles estavam acautelados irregularmente na cadeia pública junto com adultos. Isso era um crime. Olha, você não queira saber a repercussão dessa matéria, que era uma matéria que ninguém queria fazer, ninguém queria falar, todo mundo passava pano para aquilo, fazia vista grossa e o próprio jornal não se interessou muito, mas quando a gente foi contar a história desses adolescentes e mostrar que antes deles serem autores, eles foram vítimas, a gente conseguiu pela primeira vez fazer com que a população olhasse para esses adolescentes sem ódio, sem desejar que eles morressem. E foi um trabalho incrível. A gente conseguiu criar um centro de acautelamento para adolescentes, né? Que era um espaço próprio para que eles pudessem cumprir é a medida de privação de liberdade. Então, eu acho que o jornalismo é isso. Eu acho que ele tem esse poder, sabe? Tanto na literatura, quanto no jornal, no podcast. Ele Ele tem o poder da palavra. A palavra, ela é muito potente. MAYRA: Só que pra fazer isso, é preciso um trabalho muuito meticuloso e cuidadoso de investigação. Ela falou sobre isso comentando do novo livro que vem por aí.  DANIELA: Porque quando você reconstitui uma história de alguém, já tô eu dando spoiler aqui, você precisa, é, ter um nível de pesquisa que é o mesmo nível de pesquisa de uma uma grande denúncia, entendeu? Então, não existe algo que não vai ficar, é, é, que você não consiga colocar de pé ou que não tenha, é, profundidade suficiente para se tornar um grande livro. Isso é bobagem. É a sua pesquisa, a sua investigação, é o teu texto. É isso que vai transformar uma história que pode ser simples numa grande história. [sobe trilha] MAYRA: A gente quis saber como é esse processo de pesquisa e apuração pra Daniela.  DANIELA: Eu começo, é, procurando e priorizando quem me responde, quem tá interessado em falar. MAYRA: Parece meio óbvio, né, mas a gente precisa lembrar que estamos falando de temas bem sensíveis e que muitas pessoas estão ainda sofrendo com tragédias que mudaram completamente suas vidas. Nem todo mundo se sente à vontade pra conversar sobre. DANIELA: Você tem inúmeras famílias envolvidas naquilo e aí você começa a procurar pessoas e você vai investir naquelas que te deram retorno, que querem falar e depois você vai investir o seu tempo naquelas que não querem falar, mas cujo testemunho é fundamental e você vai tentar falar com essas pessoas. É quase um novelo que você vai puxando o fio no começo tá totalmente enrolado, ele você não acha a ponta. Depois você acha a ponta e você começa delicadamente a desenrolar esse novelo porque é complexo. E aí você vai vendo o seguinte, o que que eu já tenho de informação e o que que eu não tenho que eu preciso ter, porque eu não posso ter furo nessa minha pesquisa. No caso do Flamengo, do Ninho do Urubu, eu falei com todas as famílias, as 10. Consegui falar com as 10, porque não fazia sentido com o número de vítimas muito menor do que Brumadinho, eu falar com nove famílias com cinco. Não era justo, não era ético. As 10 tinham que falar. E tinha uma especificamente que até o final me deu um trabalho uma canseira, não queria falar e com muita resistência e até que eu cheguei no limite do tempo e falei: “Olha, tipo 8 meses depois, procurando por eles”, falei: “Olha, eu preciso fechar minhas entrevistas e vai ser muito ruim contar a história de nove meninos, porque são 10, mas se vocês não falarem, eu vou contar de nove, infelizmente. MAYRA: E aí, não podemos negar, né, tá uma grande diferença no ritmo de trabalho. Lembra que a Daniela falou de uma grande reportagem pro jornal, que ela teve três meses pra escrever? Isso é um tempo gigante pro jornalismo diário. Já pros livros, ela consegue ter mais tempo pra fazer esse tipo de investigação.  DANIELA: Então assim, eu fiz primeiro as famílias, depois eu fui fazer todo o trabalho de de ouvir o Ministério Público, depois eu fui fazer o trabalho de ouvir a Polícia Civil que tinha feito uma investigação inicial, para tentar entender qual era a linha de raciocínio que a Polícia Civil fez, depois a gente foi falar com o judiciário, depois a gente começou uma pesquisa que envolvia a prefeitura de Olha quantas camadas. Então, assim, na verdade, é tanta gente envolvida que você tem que tentar abraçar tudo. Às vezes, você não vai conseguir falar com todo mundo. Então, eu tentei, por exemplo, fazer entrevistas presenciais com a prefeitura eh do Rio, que tinha concedido eh eh tinha dado inúmeras oportunidades para o Flamengo, multou, multou, multou e não tomou uma medida mais eficiente. Chegou a interditar no papel o centro de treinamento, mas não na prática, o centro de treinamento continuou funcionando. Eu tinha que entender porque que eles foram tão omissos, né? A gente não conseguiu. A prefeitura não falou. E eu vou deixar de dizer que a prefeitura foi omissa, eu tinha documentos que mostravam isso.  MAYRA: Mesmo com mais tempo, nunca dá pra cobrir tudo nos mínimos detalhes. Seja porque algumas partes envolvidas não querem participar, como a prefeitura do Rio, seja porque ainda há um limite de tempo ou de recursos.  DANIELA: por exemplo, em Brumadinho, eu não tive braço para entrevistar a população ribeirinha que foi afetada pela contaminação do Rio Paraopeba, que era uma uma frente importante, mas você também precisa fazer algumas escolhas, porque senão você vai falar de tudo e não vai falar de nada. Você tem que falar de alguma coisa com profundidade. Então qual foi a minha escolha narrativa no caso de Brumadinho? Eu quero falar com qualidade, é, e com competência do resgate que foi feito, do trabalho do IML e aí eu me concentrei naquilo.  MAYRA: Pode ter um limite de habilidade também, o jornalismo tem uma série de especializações e mesmo o trabalho de escrita de um livro às vezes precisa ser colaborativo.  DANIELA: No, no Arrastados, por exemplo, eu tive que fazer um, um recorte econômico que era sobre as ações da Vale, quantas ações da Vale aumentaram naquele, no ano em que morreram 270, 272 pessoas e eu não tenho qualificação para isso, eu não entendo nada de ação e tal. A gente contratou alguém que sabia fazer isso e que fez com maestria, que é o Marcelo Soares. E tá tudo certo. Então, assim, a gente não tem que dar conta de tudo. A gente tem que ter um recorte possível para contar uma história. MAYRA: Essa fala da Daniela dá uma dimensão da quantidade de dados e informações que ela precisa lidar em cada livro. Ela contou que tem pilhas e pilhas de arquivos com as transcrições das entrevistas e toda a apuração de cada caso. E que ainda guarda tudo isso em casa.  DANIELA: Eu acho que uma coisa que eu levei do jornalismo para literatura, que foi fundamental, foi a questão então da disciplina, no processo de escrita, de você ter que se organizar diante de múltiplas informações, assim, de que por onde eu vou começar. Então eu fazia já isso no jornalismo diário, claro, precariamente, porque eu não tinha muito tempo, mas de que que que eu vou abordar nessa matéria, na matéria principal, na minha retranca, é, o desdobramento, daí eu vou fazer o que nesse desdobramento? Então eu passei a fazer isso na literatura, um esqueleto, a partir de toda quando a minha apuração tá pronta, para eu, a partir desse esqueleto, pensar o que que eu quero contar nessa história, como é que eu vou abrir a minha história, nesse o primeiro capítulo eu vou trazer o quê, o segundo, o terceiro. Esse esqueleto é fundamental para você conseguir fazer um livro, porque fazer um livro não é sentar diante do computador e começar a escrever achando que você vai igual eh eh escritor americano em frente à praia, olhando pro mar e que aquilo vai brotar, não brota não.  MAYRA: Foi graças a essa organização que ela conseguiu visualizar como ia contar a história de Arrastados, por exemplo.  DANIELA: Depois que a minha apuração ficou pronta, eu percebi que eu tinha as 96 horas pós-rompimento quase que em tempo real. Então eu falei: “Eu vou contar a história por aqui”.  MAYRA: Há uma certa discussão no mundo do jornalismo se o jornalismo literário é ou não jornalismo. Mas, ouvindo a Daniela, pra mim dá pra perceber que as práticas, os modos de fazer, são basicamente os mesmos. A gente pode mudar a forma de apresentar, tentar reconstruir a história de uma forma que a entrega dela pro público ganhe novos aspectos, mas ainda é um serviço de informar, e de informar bem.  DANIELA: O que eu acho que eu não posso perder enquanto jornalista é o meu foco é no compromisso de entregar um conteúdo de qualidade.  [sobe trilha] DANIELA: Expectativa zero quando eu lancei. Eu não conhecia o mercado editorial. Aliás, foi assim, é até uma ingenuidade da minha parte, sabe? Quando a gente lançou o Holocausto, porque eu não sabia nada do mercado e não tinha expectativa nenhuma. Eu simplesmente queria que esse livro fosse publicado, porque eu entendia que era um tema muito muito grandioso para ficar restrito a uma série de jornal.  MAYRA: Eu quis saber, durante a entrevista, o que mudou na forma de escrever da Daniela quando ela passou do jornalismo diário para os livros.  DANIELA: No jornal você precisa no lide, né, que para quem não sabe, a abertura da matéria, responder todas as perguntas numa única frase, né? Como, quando, onde, porquê e tal. É, e aí você tem que entregar tudo ali para que, que aquela pessoa se interesse em continuar lendo. No livro não, você não tem a obrigação de responder nada, muito pelo contrário, você pode começar colocando 1.000 dúvidas no leitor, ele te dá essa oportunidade, você tem tempo para trabalhar esse texto. É diferente, totalmente diferente um texto literário de um texto jornalístico. MAYRA: A Daniela contou que, conforme ela foi se aprofundando na escrita literária, ela começou a se preocupar mais com estratégias que fariam o leitor chegar até o final do livro.  DANIELA: Então, você tem que apresentar alguma coisa que vá surpreender o leitor. O Cova 312, é minha preocupação, será que o leitor vai gostar? Era que ele virasse a página e aí isso é muito assustador, muito mesmo, porque você fica querendo repetir aqueles números que foram extraordinários. MAYRA: Especialmente porque o primeiro livro, o Holocausto Brasileiro, foi um grande sucesso de vendas e é até hoje uma das obras mais populares dela.  DANIELA: E isso gerou muitas questões. Assim, uma cobrança imensa, tanto minha quanto do público, quanto da própria editora que me publicou pela primeira vez, de que o outro livro repetisse sucesso do Holocausto. Isso não aconteceu. E aí foi uma outra lição, do tipo, nem todo livro vai fazer o mesmo sucesso do Holocausto e tá tudo bem, porque o Holocausto é um ponto fora da curva. O Cova não foi esse sucesso imenso de vendas que foi o o Holocausto, mas ele ganhou o prêmio Jabuti. Ele é uma referência, ele mudou um capítulo da ditadura brasileira. Então, assim, do que que a gente tá falando? A gente tá falando de números de dinheiro, a gente tá falando de uma repercussão social, humana, de uma pesquisa, de uma documentação que virou pesquisa histórica, entendeu? MAYRA: Mais uma vez, a gente pode tocar aqui no ponto da memória. Ainda que um livro não bata um recorde de vendas, ele ainda tem uma função muito importante de abrigar uma informação do tempo. De manter ela ali, disponível e bem detalhada, pra quem precisar dela.  DANIELA: Eu fiz um evento numa livraria aqui em Campinas e na plateia tava uma uma resgatista do Samu, uma médica. E ela disse assim: “todo mundo que é resgatista tinha que ler o Arrastados”. Então assim, é isso, é você fazer uma pesquisa que ela vire uma referência para uma área.  MAYRA: A gente também precisa entender que cada livro é um livro, e tem muitos fatores que influenciam no sucesso. O momento político e econômico, a cultura da leitura, o tema do livro…  DANIELA: Se ele vai acontecer, se ele vai explodir, se ele vai vender muito, se ele não vai, isso não não diz mais respeito a mim. Entendeu? Vai além do trabalho do autor, sabe?  MAYRA: E mudar um pouco essa perspectiva também ajuda a ter um outro olhar pro texto, a entender que dá pra testar coisas diferentes com a escrita e aprimorar mesmo essa técnica.  DANIELA: O que a literatura me deu foi, é, tempo para amadurecer esse texto, para criar eu não gosto dessa palavra técnica não, mas para encontrar meios e formas de fazer com que aquela história é que o leitor siga virando a página, porque se você entregar tudo no primeiro capítulo, essa pessoa não vai continuar lendo aquele livro, por melhor que seja o livro, então você tem que costurar as histórias. E isso é bem complexo e a literatura me deu tempo para aprender a fazer isso, né? DANIELA: Isso também é muito gostoso, porque escrever é sofrimento, né? Não tem jeito. É muito sofrimento, mas também ao mesmo tempo que é sofrimento é muito prazeroso. Quando você consegue fazer uma narrativa que faça com que a pessoa consiga visualizar o que ela tá lendo, imaginar o que ela tá lendo, cheirar o que ela tá lendo, é isso é realmente é muito poderoso. Então eu acho que a literatura me deu essa chance de aprender a fazer, e tô aprendendo até hoje, né? Full Text of Readings Friday after Ash Wednesday Lectionary: 221 The Saint of the day is Saints Jacinta and Francisco Marto Saints Jacinta and Francisco Marto's Story Between May 13 and October 13, 1917, three Portuguese shepherd children from Aljustrel, received apparitions of Our Lady at Cova da Iria, near Fátima, a city 110 miles north of Lisbon. At that time, Europe was involved in an extremely bloody war. Portugal itself was in political turmoil, having overthrown its monarchy in 1910; the government disbanded religious organizations soon after. At the first appearance, Mary asked the children to return to that spot on the thirteenth of each month for the next six months. She also asked them to learn to read and write and to pray the rosary “to obtain peace for the world and the end of the war.” They were to pray for sinners and for the conversion of Russia, which had recently overthrown Czar Nicholas II and was soon to fall under communism. Up to 90,000 people gathered for Mary's final apparition on October 13, 1917. Less than two years later, Francisco died of influenza in his family home. He was buried in the parish cemetery and then re-buried in the Fátima basilica in 1952. Jacinta died of influenza in Lisbon in 1920, offering her suffering for the conversion of sinners, peace in the world, and the Holy Father. She was re-buried in the Fátima basilica in 1951. Their cousin Lúcia dos Santos, became a Carmelite nun and was still living when Jacinta and Francisco were beatified in 2000; she died five years later. Pope Francis canonized the younger children on his visit to Fátima to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first apparition–May 13, 2017. The shrine of Our Lady of Fátima is visited by up to 20 million people a year. Reflection The Church is always very cautious about endorsing alleged apparitions, but it has seen benefits from people changing their lives because of the message of Our Lady of Fátima. Vi jobbar båda i Language Gym och ja, vi hade ett samtal om lite olika saker, bland annat om hur det är att bo i Italien, vilka kulturella skillnader som finns mellan Italien och Sverige som till exempel med öppenhet och med hur man hanterar stora känslor och mattider, service. Och jag kunde såklart också jämföra med Spanien Italien och Spanien är ju två medelhavsländer så det finns vissa likheter och vi pratade också om omvända kulturkrockar. Så någonting lite chockerande hände Cova när hon kom tillbaka till Sverige efter lång tid i Italien. Så vi pratar om någonting som är helt normalt att göra i Italien men som man inte ska göra i Sverige. Och Cova nämner också en intressant strategi för att folk inte ska byta språk när hon pratar italienska med människor. Så när hon lärde sig italienska så använde hon den här strategin för att andra människor skulle stanna i det italienska språket. Fredrik Jag tror vi pratade också någon gång på Instagram för att vi båda lägger ut svenskarelaterat material på Instagram. Men kan du berätta lite om dig själv först, lite kort så.  Vad du gör och vad du gillar att göra. Jag vet inte. Cova Ja då. För det första, tack för att jag får vara med. Så jag heter Cova och jag kommer från Göteborg. Men, jag måste typ alltid nämna det här, men min pappa kommer från Chile och min mamma kommer från Sverige. Det är faktiskt ganska många som tror att jag kommer från Italien, Bolivia, Frankrike, Mellanöstern. Jag har sett många kommentarer om det. Men jag är halvsvensk, halvchilensk och jag bor nu i Italien. Jag lär ut svenska på The Language Gym tillsammans med Fred. Och det var så vi lärde känna varandra. Jag pluggar också språk. Jag just nu fokuserar jag mycket på quechua. Och vad mer kan jag säga om mig själv?

Full Text of ReadingsTuesday of the Fourth Week of Easter Lectionary: 280The Saint of the day is Our Lady of FatimaThe Story of Our Lady of Fatima Between May 13 and October 13, 1917, three Portuguese children–Francisco and Jacinta Marto and their cousin Lucia dos Santos–received apparitions of Our Lady at Cova da Iria near Fatima, a city 110 miles north of Lisbon. Mary asked the children to pray the rosary for world peace, for the end of World War I, for sinners, and for the conversion of Russia. Mary gave the children three secrets. Following the deaths of Francisco and Jacinta in 1919 and 1920 respectively, Lucia revealed the first secret in 1927. It concerned devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The second secret was a vision of hell. When Lucia grew up she became a Carmelite nun and died in 2005 at the age of 97. Pope John Paul II directed the Holy See's Secretary of State to reveal the third secret in 2000; it spoke of a “bishop in white” who was shot by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows into him. Many people linked this vision to the assassination attempt against Pope John Paul II in St. Peter's Square on May 13, 1981. The feast of Our Lady of Fatima was approved by the local bishop in 1930; it was added to the Church's worldwide calendar in 2002. Reflection The message of Fatima is simple: Pray. Unfortunately, some people—not Sister Lucia—have distorted these revelations, making them into an apocalyptic event for which they are now the only reliable interpreters. They have, for example, claimed that Mary's request that the world be consecrated to her has been ignored. Sister Lucia agreed that Pope John Paul II's public consecration in St. Peter's Square on March 25, 1984, fulfilled Mary's request. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith prepared a June 26, 2000, document explaining the “third secret.” Mary is perfectly honored when people generously imitate her response “Let it be done to me as you say” (Luke 1:38). Mary can never be seen as a rival to Jesus or to the Church's teaching authority, as exercised by the college of bishops united with the bishop of Rome. Click here for more on Our Lady! Son pueblos del norte de la provincia de Castellón, a medio camino entre las playas de Vinaròs y las cumbres de Morella. Nueve municipios que han decidido aliarse, buscar sinergias, ofrecerse como destino alternativo y complementario al masificado turismo de costa. Así nació la asociación Maestrat Ànima Interior, un rosario de pequeñas poblaciones que comparten un pasado medieval marcado por las órdenes de caballería y una cultura ligada al paisaje. Olivos, almendros, naranjos y algarrobos comparten escenario con carrascas y palmitos entre barrancos, llanuras y cerros de roca caliza. Por él discurre esta ruta que arrancamos con las voces de Ruth Sanz y Mar Arnanz, presidenta y técnica de turismo, respectivamente, de Maestrat Ànima Interior. Partimos de la dulce villa de Càlig, donde nos espera el técnico Jordi Curto. Antes de subir al castillo de Cervera del Maestre junto al historiador Dani Cervera, echamos un vistazo al extremo norte de la provincia en la masía, hípica y casa rural Molí Hospital, regentada por Santi Vidal en Rossell. Sin abandonar este término municipal subimos a Bel de la mano de Joaquín Sabater, vecino de esta pintoresca pedanía encaramada en los montes del parque natural de la Tinença de Benifassà. Conocemos a los productores de aceite de olivos milenarios Amador Peset y David Taus. En las montañas de Xert encontramos el rebaño del pastor Jordi Benages, propietario de la quesería artesana La Planeta. No muy lejos, en la monumental Sant Mateu, el informador turístico Iván Ortí muestra la imponente iglesia arciprestal y la guía de las bodegas Besalduch Valls & Bellmunt, Rosa Ortega, nos abre las puertas del gran museo adosado a su moderna zona de producción vinícola. Pisando ya territorio de la comarca de L’Alt Maestrat, nos asomamos al Museu de la Valltorta en el término de Tírig; su directora, Pilar Vidal, y el guía Santiago Cabrera, nos zambullen en las fascinantes pinturas rupestres de la Cova dels Cavalls. Full Text of ReadingsThursday of the Sixth Week in Ordinary Time Lectionary: 338The Saint of the day is Saints Jacinta and Francisco MartoSaints Jacinta and Francisco Marto's Story Between May 13 and October 13, 1917, three Portuguese shepherd children from Aljustrel, received apparitions of Our Lady at Cova da Iria, near Fátima, a city 110 miles north of Lisbon. At that time, Europe was involved in an extremely bloody war. Portugal itself was in political turmoil, having overthrown its monarchy in 1910; the government disbanded religious organizations soon after. At the first appearance, Mary asked the children to return to that spot on the thirteenth of each month for the next six months. She also asked them to learn to read and write and to pray the rosary “to obtain peace for the world and the end of the war.” They were to pray for sinners and for the conversion of Russia, which had recently overthrown Czar Nicholas II and was soon to fall under communism. Up to 90,000 people gathered for Mary's final apparition on October 13, 1917. Less than two years later, Francisco died of influenza in his family home. He was buried in the parish cemetery and then re-buried in the Fátima basilica in 1952. Jacinta died of influenza in Lisbon in 1920, offering her suffering for the conversion of sinners, peace in the world, and the Holy Father. She was re-buried in the Fátima basilica in 1951. Their cousin Lúcia dos Santos, became a Carmelite nun and was still living when Jacinta and Francisco were beatified in 2000; she died five years later. Pope Francis canonized the younger children on his visit to Fátima to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first apparition–May 13, 2017. The shrine of Our Lady of Fátima is visited by up to 20 million people a year. Reflection The Church is always very cautious about endorsing alleged apparitions, but it has seen benefits from people changing their lives because of the message of Our Lady of Fátima.
