For the past four years, Adelaide blackened death groove outfit Sons Of Erebus have noisily gone about their business, smoothing off the edges of a rough exterior to uncover the gemstone beneath.Despite the inevitable teething problems faced by most bands, Sons Of Erebus have racked up the miles, playing a string of festivals across Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales while fine-tuning their material and road testing it on the people who matter most. The fans. Now, with a settled line up comprising guitarist Ethan (Asmodeus/ex-Thorngate) bassist Bedlam, eccentric frontman Paulie (PAUL13/A Murder of Crows/ex-Age of Horror), lead guitarist Rus (ex-Scapegoat/ex-Horrific Penetration/ex-Age of Horror) and young drummer and local legend Kyle (Broken Loose), Sons Of Erebus are ready to pounce, unleashing their debut 4 track EP Drenched In Plague last week to an overwhelmingly positive response that has so far justified the extra hours put in before committing anything to disk.Frontman Paulie sat down with HEAVY recently to discuss Drenched In Plague and everything around it."Yeah, pretty good so far," he smiled when we asked what the reaction has been so far to the EP. "We've had good feedback and a lot of good compliments. A lot of messages that are all positive so far (laughs). And the songs are familiar with the fans because we've been playing them for a while and trying to bust out finishing the CD. So yeah, it's had a good reception."We ask Paulie to dive deeper into the musical side of Drenched In Plague."It started off as more of a black metal thing," he measured, "and then it's evolved with me dipping my style into it. I come from a bit more of a groove background, and we've tried to make that kind of sound - that bit darker sound - a bit more accessible by taking some of the intensity out of it."In the full interview, we discussed Drenched In Plague in greater detail, running through each of the four tracks one at a time with Paulie explaining how the songs came together and what they are about. We talked about the pressures of a debut release and the length of time it has taken for Sons Of Erebus to release their first recorded material. Talk turned to their live show and upcoming support with international thrash metal outfit Vektor plus advanced plans on new material, including what it will sound like and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

More than 20 thousand secondary teachers are walking off the job today to strike over the lowest pay increase offer in a generation. Post-Primary Teachers Association members will picket outside dozens of schools and MP offices after rejecting a 3% pay increase over three years. Opposition Leader Chris Hipkins told John MacDonald teachers deserve more than the Government's offering. He says that if they accept this offer, they'll effectively be taking a pay cut as it's below the rate of inflation. Hipkins says they at least deserve a pay increase that keeps them at the level they're at now. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Greg Jenner is joined by Dr Vanessa Heggie and comedian Stu Goldsmith to learn all about the perilous history of Arctic exploration. From the 15th to 20th Centuries, Europeans searched for the Northwest Passage, a supposed seaway between the Atlantic and Pacific through the Arctic Ocean. Indigenous groups had been traversing the passage for centuries, using small skin boats and dog sleds, but from 1497, European expeditions were launched to find and claim it. Most of these ended in failure, with explorers either returning home empty-handed or not returning at all. Some even got completely lost, arriving in Hawaii or North Carolina rather than Canada! In 1845, the most famous Arctic expedition, led by Sir John Franklin, was launched. Within a few months, his two ships, the Erebus and the Terror, with their crew of 129 souls, had vanished. It was not until 1906 that a Norwegian team, led by Roald Amundsen, finally navigated the passage. This episode explores the often fatal quest for the Northwest Passage, charting the various expeditions that tried and failed to find and traverse it, uncovering the men who lost their lives looking for it, and asking why Europeans were so keen to explore such a hostile region of the world. This interview is back from the Wristcheck event last year sadly due to the timing of the event we only managed to grab a few interviews and the audio isn't perfect due to taking place during the event and us learning the microphones, This interview is with the world famous Jody from Erebus Watches and of course his Youtube channel Just One More Watch. After years of reviewing watches of numerous brands Jody partnered with Steven and decided to back up his years of reviews and his moans and niggles of what watches should have and what they should cost by starting his own brand and speccing the watches the way he has demanded they should have been specced for years. JodyErebus Origin Black Dial PrototypeCurrent Car -Lexus LS430 StevenCurrent Car - M135i and also MX5 and Tesla Model Y The Famous Ingall vs Skaife Incident Follow us on Instagram:@FifthWrist   Follow us on Facebook:facebook.com/fifthwrist   Subscribe to ourYouTube channel   To join our group chat then please email us atcontact@fifthwrist.com Please take the time to leave us a review wherever you listen to our watchmaking podcast.
