Kachine Alexander left an indelible legacy as a player. In high school, she won a Class AAA state championship at Benilde-St. Margaret's. Committing to Iowa in college, she became the first woman in Big Ten history to earn two triple-doubles in the same season. Her 34 double-doubles and 910 rebounds ranked second in Iowa women's basketball history when she graduated, an impressive mark considering the time she missed when she wasn't certified to compete in the spring semester of her freshman year. No matter the setback, Kachine built a reputation of bouncing back, an attitude she carried to the coaching ranks, which has taken her to Concordia University, North Dakota State and Florida Atlantic. After taking a year off with the birth of her daughter, Kachine returned to the sidelines as an assistant coach at James Madison, reuniting her with former Big Ten rival Samantha Prahalis-Holmes. In this conversation prior to the season, Kachine reflects on her history with basketball, her research methods in an era before smartphones, and what she hopes to accomplish as a female coach of color. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tsbtelevision/support
