The union wanted smaller class size caps and pay increases for teachers, adult educators and support staff. A spokesperson said the new contract includes agreements on those demands. Teachers will vote on whether to officially accept the contract on Thursday and Friday.

The district includes the blue collar cities of Brooklyn Park and Coon Rapids to the north-east, middle-income Bloomington to the south, and higher-income Eden Prairie, Edina, Hopkins, Maple Grove, Plymouth, Minnetonka, and Wayzata to the west. Democrat Kelly Morrison currently represents the district in the U. S. House of Representatives, after being elected in 2024.The 3rd congressional district has the highest median household income out of Minnesota's congressional districts, with a median household income of $100,867, compared to the state average of $74,593. In 2020, 12 percent of residents of the 3rd congressional district were immigrants; the largest countries of origin were India, Mexico, Laos, Liberia, and Vietnam. The largest immigrant populations in the district are concentrated in Brooklyn Park, one of the most ethnically diverse cities in Minnesota, as well as in Eden Prairie and Bloomington.The 2024 election was between Republican Tad Jude and Democrat Kelly Morrison. Eight hundred Target employees who worked at the company's headquarters in Minneapolis and Brooklyn Park are in search of new jobs after the Twin Cities-based retailer announced layoffs Tuesday. On Wednesday, Cargill announced it is laying off 80 employees from its headquarters in Wayzata. The company cut 5 percent of its global workforce at the end of last year.Laid-off workers will now enter a job market that's frozen, and employers are hiring more cautiously amidst nationwide economic uncertainty.To learn more about the state of the job market in Minnesota and what it means for newly unemployed workers, MPR News host Nina Moini talked with Beth Glassman. Glassman is a senior employment counselor with Hired, a nonprofit that provides workforce development and employment services in the Twin Cities.

The filing states that the victims in the shooting "were particularly vulnerable based on the location of the incident on a university campus," adding that "the Victims were particularly vulnerable based on the large scale of attendees at the public event, besides the intended Victim there were numerous people present besides the intended victims and Defendant created greater-than-normal danger to the safety of these other people."The document states that the "sentencing departure issues should be decided by the trial jury."
