Tens of thousands of federal employees across the country have been laid off over the last two months. And some surveys suggest private employers have slowed hiring because of concerns over tariffs and the future of the overall economy.Meanwhile, fewer employees are leaving their current jobs for new ones — a slowdown in turnover that's been dubbed “the great stay.” MPR News host Angela Davis and her guests talk about the uncertainty in the job market and advice for people who are — or may soon be — looking for work. If you are looking for a job, check CareerForce, the state of Minnesota's official website for career exploration that brings together a network of private, public and nonprofit resources for job seekers. A listener to the show also recommended MN Crossroads Career Network, a service of Grace Church in Eden Prairie.  Guests: Chris Farrell is senior economics contributor for MPR News and Marketplace.Kelly McClellan is a senior associate director and career coach at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, where she primarily works with MBA students and alumni. She also has a private practice which provides coaching and job search support.  Subscribe to the MPR News with Angela Davis podcast on: Apple Podcasts, Spotify or RSS.   Use the audio player above to listen to the full conversation.

Send us a textAccording to the Cycling Museum of Minnesota, BMX became popular in the Land of 10,000 lakes in the 70's, with the first race in the state believed to have taken place at Rydjor Bike shop in Austin, Minnesota in 1974. In the mid 80's is when I started racing in Minnesota. I grew up in a time where I raced on tracks from Eden Prairie, Albert Lea to Richfield, where the famous Taft Park track was and is now gone. Hell I even raced indoors at the Armory in Downtown Minneapolis during the winter. In all that time I don't remember a state series. To me points were all about district points. Presently Minnesota has a thriving Minnesota BMX scene and state series. The state has 10 tracks where every track gets a qualifier. The series begins In July and ends late August. The finals is held at the ever famous "Rum River BMX' in Isanti, Minnesota. I recently sat down with Sam Falkowski and Tim Dobosenski who  are on the committee that organize the series. It's the second year of the committee and they have big plans for the series.

As a mom, I want to foster a safe place to help my kids identify and work through their emotions, and love the idea that they can do that through play. I am so excited to have Elisabeth Emmerich, a registered play therapist, on the podcast this week to walk us through:1. How can we, as parents, help our kids identify or understand the emotions they are feeling? (ie. Mad vs. frustrated?)2. What are ways that we can help our kids to process their emotions? (ie. How can play help our kids process their emotions?)3. Should I be concerned if my child is overly aggressive during play while mad? For example, the child is upset and is play with dolls and is making the dolls hurt each other.More about Elisabeth:Elisabeth Emmerich is a licensed therapist, registered play therapist, wife and mom to 3 boys. Elisabeth owns a private practice in Eden Prairie, MN (Creekside Counseling) and has been working in the mental health field for over a decade. Not only does Elisabeth continue to see therapy clients, but has a second business in which she hosts the Experience Motherhood Podcast and offers courses to support moms in being authentic and true to themselves in motherhood. Elisabeth loves to come alongside moms and kids to support them in discovering that they are wonderfully and uniquely created. Outside of her businesses, Elisabeth loves walking the family dog and being outside with her 3 boys.Experience Motherhood PodcastExperience MotherhoodFollow Elisabeth on Instagram @experiencemotherhood______________________________Did you love this episode? Dale Hummel was called at a young age to be a pastor, while growing up as a missionary kid in Papua New Guinea. As the elders were standing around, the local Christians asked, “Who will take the gospel beyond the mountains?” It took Dale years to realize that he would be the one. But he had to overcome childhood trauma that developed into OCD to be able to fully realize God's plan for his life. Learn how he overcame OCD and the biblically-based steps you can take to retrain your mind that he outlines in his book, Reset: Live Every Day Like It's a New Day. And be encouraged as you see how God used Dale to bring the gospel beyond the mountains, as both Senior Pastor at Wooddale Church in Eden Prairie, MN, and passionate church planter. Do you have trauma from your past that is keeping you back from God's plan for your life? Today's show will encourage you in moving forward with Christ.Today's Sendoff features Michael Thompson, founder of OneWay.Helpful links:Transcript of the show Dale's book, Reset: Live Every Day Like It's a New DayFree download of Michael Thompson's Savior Like a Shepherd Lead UsAtlantic story on health benefits of ice creamAmit Sood, MD, Mayo ClinicOCD, Obsessive Compulsive DisorderWooddale ChurchThe Compass ChurchThe Timothy InitiativePapua New Guinea Prayercast Follow One80 on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or our website.Never miss a One80.
